We booked to eat at the Malayalam on Monday 26 October on a short visit to Eastbourne. Earlier that day we were looking at the menu online and having second thoughts about going, partly the shortish menu, partly the weather, we are so glad we didn’t give it a miss. Wow!! The food was amazing, it was fresh, tasted like a home cooked meal and the portions were great. The staff were lovely and the whole experience was just calm.
The Malayalam is definitely going to be on our list the next time we visit Eastbourne. Thanks Malayalam.

It was my first time to Eastbourne and I came across this restaurant meandering around to find dinner on a weekday night. It was relatively busy, not full though. The menu was shorter than most Indian restaurants I know which I think is a plus. Most dishes I didn’t recognise, it isn’t the standard Indian food offer, or maybe they have regional specialities. There was also a special of the day. I decided to order a fish curry, the waitress suggested which rice and bread to take with it. It may have well been the best Indian food I have ever had. Very, very well cooked, not just the curry, the rice and bread were full of flavour too. Service was attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere was good, it’s a rather quiet place with only moderate decoration. It feels a bit empty, with not enough furniture but this is probably due to the Covid situation. I really enjoyed my dinner there and would highly recommend to visit when in the area.

We booked the Malayalam for an evening meal during a weekend stay. I don't always write reviews but felt compelled to do so after tasting the amazing food Firstly the staff at Malayalam are welcoming, polite and friendly and this immediately puts you at ease and makes for a more relaxing and enjoyable experience.Secondly the food at Malayalam is simply on another level than most, the flavors are incredible and the dishes were a wonderful blend of succulent meat and spices which exploded in the mouth on so many different levels. Malayalam is not flashy nor expensive and regains a degree of quaintness and originality which makes it a real treat to visit. I would recommend Malayalam.

Our first time to this restaurant. Such a lovely meal, the food was beautifully cooked and full of flavour and fragrant. Because we are not familiar with Keralan food, we asked for advice on what to choose, they were very helpful and we were very pleased with what was recommended. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

First visit to Malayalam. Reserved table ready for us on arrival. Lovely attentive customer service. The food was delivered at a timely pace, didn't feel rushed or having to wait between courses. Food was excellent, delicious flavours and aromas and perfect portion sizes. Highly recommend Malayalam. Very reasonably priced. Thank you for a lovely evening.

My husband has an egg allergy, so eating out is tricky when away from home. The restruant was brilliant, they advised all of the foods not to eat. We had not eaten southern Indian foods before and was delited with the fabulously presented, delicious tasting food that was put in front of us. We both rolled back to the hotel, then went back again for the second night. The flavours are amazing and so different from our weekly Indian, not too spicy, just right and so flavoursome. I throughly recommended you to try this new experience as its taken my eating pallet to another level. Thank you to all the staff for enhancing our stay in Eastbourne , we look forward to coming back in the future.

So funny tale. We were looking for somewhere to go tonight and stumbled across this restaurant that reminded us of somewhere we love in Leicester closer to where we live in Northamptonshire. The food was amazing and didn’t disappoint. The dosa brought back memories of Leicester. The owners are just lovely. So when we were paying and got talking turns out they worked and did their training at Kayal restaurant. That’s why it was familiar. Cannot recommend it enough. What a find for us. Good luck to this restaurant in Eastbourne especially with everything so up in the air at the moment.

Didn’t realise this was #1 on Tripadvisor in Eastbourne before going but I can see why it is.

Food was delicious. One of the best tasting curries I’ve had. It all tasted like it was cooked fresh with good ingredients.

Highly recommended

My husband I love Asian food. We had a dosa to share as a starter and it was delicious. The 'dips' were so fresh and could really taste the flavours. Hubby had fish in banana leaf which came with rice, I had lamb and spinach, very tender, with the toddy breads which are like pancakes, so light! We shared our Meals, All in all, a truly delightful meal. The staff were lovely, very attentive and were happy to give advice. Social distancing was great and it had a lovely atmosphere. Almost felt normal!

We enjoyed dosas followed by two types of rice & two curries-all freshly prepared genuine Kerala dishes served by the delightful owners who stopped to chat.
The vegetable kurma was the best I have ever tasted.

Absolutely amazing indian. Could not fault anything. The flavours were amazing, from mild lemongrass, tasty coconut, essence of turmeric in authentic keralan style. Had no trouble getting a variety of vegetarian dishes. Starters were amazing and flavoursome and our mains of aubergine tomato curry and a potato and mushroom curry were out of this world. Service was good with a smile (as much as can be with a face mask!) This is a newish restaurant and i recommend a visit if you love a creamy authentic curry thats not the normal english korma/masala rubbish!

Brought friends with us for our 2nd visit. They also loved it. Fantastic masala dosa, definitely the best we have had. Great chicken curry too. Staff are friendly and the wine was good too. Not expensive either. I think this place is a bit of a gem in Eastbourne and hope they don't change a thing. We will be back and will certainly recommend to our friends.
