Everything about this was great. I arrived on spec, close to the time when they stopped serving, but I was shown to a table nonetheless. My Malabar coastal chicken curry was incredibly good, served with perfect basmati rice. Never tried Malaysian food? Start here!

Fantastic traditional food freshly made to order from older family recipes. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, worth every penny plus tips. Highly recommended, will definitely go back there when I'm next in Eastbourne.

Really really good food and experience. The service was extremely good with very friendly and caring staff. The food actually is much closer to Kerala cuisine than most similar places I have sampled in the UK. The location, decor and overall ambience is really good. One small criticism is about the drinks list - I think a slightly wider selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will make this place really perfect. It is slightly on the expensive side - 2 of us with quite massive appetites went through 1 starter, 3 mains and 3 non alcoholic drinks and spent around 60 odd quid. Definitely recommend!!

I spent a few days in Eastbourne as a holiday after last two years having been very restricted. To make it more enjoyable I carefully research which restaurants to visit beforehand. I chose Malayalam partly because we enjoy the food and mainly because I was with a Sri Lankan lady who likes to be able to wear a saree sometimes. So we are familiar with Kerala, Tamil and Sri Lankan restaurants.
The restaurant is fairly large with a pleasant outdoor seating area with electric heaters which is where we sat. It is nicely decorated and set out without being too closely spaced.
The food has quite a good variety of dishes and many are their own creations. I like Masala Dosa but would suggest they offer this with a chicken or meat content as well as the basic potato version. I would have liked a larger coconut chutney serving though. We had several dishes and enjoyed all of them.
I was very worried that most of the evening they were turning many unbooked people away while a lot of tables were empty. It seemed that they were worried their kitchen would not be able to keep up. Staff shortages are a problem across all of the industry since Covid. But the busy three month summer season has to maintain them through the winter and I want it to still be open next year.
Their web is quite good but does not have the wine list and prices on it. So a week before I emailed for details but did not receive any reply. So after a couple of days I sent another email but still no reply. I felt that was rather disappointing but I still came to eat there.

Lovely friendly restaurant, with very attentive informative staff. The food was out of this world. Such a refreshing taste of regional Indian cuisine. A must 'go to' place when in Eastbourne. We asked for the chef's recommendations and we were not disappointed.

Saturday 28th. Me and my partner came for the first time. Not names I recognised from usual Asian food so felt like we were trying something new. It did not disappoint. The two starters and mains were beautiful and full of flavour. Service was fast and price reasonable. Staff were polite and attentive but not over bearing. We will be back and will be getting a take away from here on Tuesday for my partner's birthday and we will visit again. This end of terminus road has some lovely restaurants would be nice to see the road pedestrianised so the bars and restaurants can have more out door space and give it a continental feel. Thanks to the chefs and staff.

This was our second visit and both have been very good. The first time we had the set lunch and my husband and I were both very pleased. There was plenty of delicious food and it was good value. The second time we ate from the a la carte menu. And we’re equally happy. My biryani was excellent and my husband loved his fish stew. Nothing was too much trouble for our waiter, Stanly, who was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely return.

Visited with friends who are new to Eastbourne. The food is authentic and so tasty. New dishes have been added, and the service continues to be all you would expect. We went in the evening, but have also gone at lunchtime when the excellent thali, served with a dosa, is a must!

Whenever somebody finds a restaurant they really like they tend to say that it is the 'best' of that particular style of cuisine. In this case, I would say that Malayalam is one of a kind; I have nothing to compare it with. The cuisine of Kerala was new to me and it is a delight. It is fresh, with a subtle range of flavours... A true gastronomic experience with prompt and friendly service.
We'll eat there again and again, and have already planned a return trip.

Coming from India, had authentic South Indian dosa after a long time.

Amazing food and good service. Place is too busy as too many customers and yet the staff was quick to serve. Very friendly staff.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. The menu had a wide variety for all but it's has by far the best vegan options I have seen for a non vegan restaurant. It really felt like it was the first time I had eaten out at a truly authentic Indian restaurant. Our waiter Stanly was very pleasant and answered any questions we had. We will certainly be back to visit.
