Well maintained paths winding up the hill, with frequent illustrated information boards en route, giving details on the history of the castle.
We understand that cash is required to keep the historical site in good order, but e thought the entrance fees were not justified, and we were able to see enough without paying them.
We did enjoy seeing this monument, and some of the wildlife swimming in the moat.

A very historic site. Free entry for a lot of the castle grounds but you need to pay for the keep area unless you are English heritage members. Great views of the surrounding area and very interesting to understand how the coastline has changed over the centuries.Visited on

I visited with 2 young children and it was ideal as not too big! They loved being able to explore this small castle, going up and down the steps. There’s a little shop inside the castle part which you will need to pay to visit. But the curtain wall part is free and there’s a little car park right next to the entrance. Inside the paid part you have a well, latrine, obliette, dungeon, cannon balls recovered from the moat, a cannon from Tudor period and you can climb the towers.
