Fantastic night. Great entertainment and lovely atmosphere in this wonderful building. Better than London's West End. Praise and thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who worked so hard and of course Chas, Dave and Nick. Brilliant

Lovely old fashioned theatre with good seating (think you would have a good view of the stage wherever you sat) and run by very helpful volunteers. Yes it's a bit tired (clean but in need of some refurbishment) but having seen three shows there now it definitely doesn't disappoint - seeing Treasure Island in a few weeks which looks to be an amazing show.

I visited here for the first time to see "Dirty Dusting". The show was absolutely hilarious, but the experience was helped by the lovely intimate setting.
We sat in the stalls and there were not many rows, so even if you had been near the back you would still have enjoyed the show.
The staff are fabulous here. They are all volunteers and give their time to keep this treasured theatre going.
Before the show we wanted to order a bottle of wine, but they only had a price list by the glass. So the lovely lady behind the bar arranged a deal for us.
I loved my experience here and can't wait for the next time I come back to this theatre.

Last Tuesday my wife and I were fortunate to be invited to the Royal Hippodrome Theatre in Eastbourne to see a performance of Hooray for Hollywood which is on every Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the summer at 8:15pm up until 8th October.I am familiar with the other two theatres in Eastbourne (the Devonshire Park and the Congress) but had never been to the Royal Hippodrome Theatre.

It’s a delightfully intimate theatre having been built in 1883 and is run largely by volunteer staff who are all very enthusiastic, efficient and helpful. Over the years many stars have appeared there including amongst others Harry Houdini, Marie Lloyd, Elsie and Doris Waters, Tommy Trinder, Vera Lynn, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe, Ken Dodd, Roy Hud and Bruce Forsythe

Unfortunately the theatre had seen better days and in 2008 Eastbourne Borough Council regained control of the theatre and it is now operated by the Royal Hippodrome Trust with a view to operating the theatre as both a community venue and professional theatre

Hooray For Hollywood promises to take you on a spectacular journey through the movie musicals - from the innocence of the silent era movies with Charlie Chaplin, right through to the modern day blockbuster. Trapdoor Productions along with Cirque Du Soliel performer Renato Pires will entertain and enthral you with a mix of song, comedy and dance. -.

The cast is made up of professional and amateur performers (and I use that term in it’s strictest sense in that they don’t earn their living in this way, it’s not a comment on their professionalism). The younger members of the cast come from the Rattonian Theatre School and they are excellent featuring quite often during the first half of the performance.

All the song and dance numbers are performed with gusto where appropriate and the slower solo numbers sung beautifully. The show is hosted by Grant Martins and I thought that was going to be his role all evening but buy the end of the first half you will realise that he is that rare commodity a song and dance man that can deliver a good (and occasionally not so good joke). I have to say that although I felt some of them a bit cheesy the audience loved it.

It’s a great nights entertainment and suitable for all ages. It’s wonderful to have a bit of variety and the addition of the acrobatic scenes involving ropes and silks by Renato Pires (I would have called them scarves but was corrected by my wife who knows a bit about things) along with the comedy and song and dance makes for a very enjoyable evening.

At times I felt it almost had an end of the pier revue feel about it and what’s wrong with that in an English seaside town. If you live near Eastbourne or are holidaying in the area then it is definitely worth taking time out to go and see it and the bar prices are the most reasonable I have been charged in a long time for a very large glass of wine.

We went to see the three degrees, who were absolutely fantastic, a really good night out. Although I have lived in Eastbourne for 16 years and go to the theatre regularly I have never visited the Hippodrome . The theatre is beautiful but needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it back to its former glory, there is an overwhelming smell of damp when you first go in but you don't notice it after a while.

Never been to the RHT before although I've lived here years. A proper old fashioned theatre and it's slight shabbiness only makes it more endeering. staff were really friendly and the bar not over-priced for a theatre. Now I'm on their mailing list I think it will only be a matter of time before I go again.

We saw 30th May Saturday Matinee - it was the best show I have seen so far by Angelica - the production was incredibly professional: the musical arrangements and choreography were stunning - a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Lavinia chooses fabulous songs to suit the casts strengths, You Will Be In My Heart brought us to tears! Looking forward to the Christmas Show at All Saints Church Meads

On holiday in Eastbourne and decided to go to the theatre one evening at the Royal Hipperdrome theatre. The production was called Hooray For Hollywood and was performed by professional and local amateur people. The show was based on songs and dances from the silver screen and was performed very well. The comedy from Grant Martins was entertaining and helped to make this a very enjoyable show.

Lovely show (Hooray for Hollywood) which my mum thoroughly enjoyed (she's nearly 88). Staff excellent, immediately on arrival they directed me to a side door with wheelchair access. During the interval I visited the bar, which provided tea, coffee and a range of alcoholic drinks, all reasonable priced. The bar was manned by volunteers. I look forward to visiting this wonderful theatre again in the future.

We had a great time , the play was really funny and we would recommend it. This was our first visit to the Royal Hippadrome and we shall definitely be coming back. This is a very intimate theatre with great character, the team that run it are excellent and offered help and guidance as soon as you step in.

We watched Dirty Dusting last night at the theatre. Such a lovely theatre, cheap bar drinks, comfortable seats And friendly staff. Theatre looking tired and would benefit from some TLC but overall a lovely theatre. There is a lot of history in this theatre and should be the centre point of Eastbourne.

We went to a free event. A lovely old fashioned theatre trying hard to survive in a modern world. Run by a team of volunteers the venue is welcoming. Good view of the surprisingly large stage from the stalls, watch out for some restricted view seats. Good view from middle balcony but not front few rows. We will return, even when we have to pay.

We took our young family for the first time to the Hippodrome Theatre to see a free show, i'm so glad we went. The great atmosphere was so infectious that I wanted to book to see other shows. There is no doubt that we will become regulars whether just the husband and I for a night out and/or with the children for family shows.

Despite having lived in Eastbourne for twenty years and being a regular theatre goer i never stepped foot in the Hippodrome because it was always aimed towards the older tourists staying in nearby hotels. However, with the threat of closure i think they have extended to other demographics and i feel it's worked.

Overall, it was a lovely comfortable theatre, nice clean facilities, most of the staff were very accommodating, refreshments were extremely reasonable, plenty of booster seats for children. Can't wait to go again!

Me and my family love going to see henrietta's fun house at the hippodrome theatre in Eastbourne. My 4 and 6 years old love Nikki and Damien they do a fantastic job entertaining everyone young and old. Special guests appear regularly! The funhouse crew are so talented and the staff at the theatre take an interest and make it their mission to make sure every guest feels special, if you haven't been make sure you go with your kids :)

I have been to this theatre several times and always enjoyed the experience. The theatre maintains many original features and good sight lines from most seats. The majority of front of house staff are volunteers and are very welcoming. Check out their website or sign up for the monthly newsletter and support this venue!

TOP TIP - Very little parking in immediate area around the theatre so allow time to walk a few minutes.
