My husband & I had a very nice evening @ the Skylark restaurant. The service, ambience & staff were very good & the restaurant was completely full which is always a good sign. My husband had the pea & bean risotto & I had the scallops (delicious & cooked to perfection) My husband followed up with the sirloin steak, also cooked to perfection but my lobster dish was very disappointing. There was more panagravato (breadcrumbs) than lobster & the shell was split in two which should never happen. It was not half a lobster perhaps not even a third. Neither of us had desserts as we don’t usually but it would have been nice to have cheese & biscuits which wasn’t on the menu. I did tell the waitress how disappointed I was with the lobster & she said she would tell the chef. I hope she did as an excellent restaurant let itself down with the lobster.

We stopped here after a day of watching tennis at Eastbourne Tennis Championship. The staff were extremely friendly and the food very good. No problem with gluten and dairy allergies. Nice wine by the glass. No complaint and if we go back next year to watch tennis, I make sure I book it.

Our butcher recommended this restaurant to us, as he had heard good reports and supplies them with meat, so we knew the meat would be good. I went with two friends on a Friday night. The ambiance was very positive and we were delighted they didn’t have intrusive, irritating loud music.
A small menu is a good sign in my experience and it didn’t disappoint. We shared a couple of sides as starters. One friend had steak, the other chicken and Ihad heritage tomatoes, though please don’t tell my butcher. My friends shared their mains and were very positive, as was I. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had a delicious dessert each, the kind you don’t want to finish. The food is not cheap, but it represents good value for money. The enthusiastic, friendly staff are a great asset. In a competitive market, I wish them well.

Had a late Sunday lunch and it was really good. Service was rapid and professional but very friendly. Food and drink hit the spot. Better than expected in a cafe environment.

It’s nice! The service is good and so is the food, but I couldn’t say it’s worth what we paid. My main complaint would be that the steak was a little on the thin and fatty side and you do expect better for that amount. The chips are great and so are the deserts. I’d give it another go.

A lovely relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food, a delicious bouillabaisse and garlic bread. A small menu but great choice of food with veg , meat and fish options. Staff were attentive but gave us space to chat. Delicious desserts with range of chocolate, meringue or sorbets and ice creams.

Visited Skylark for family dinner on Thursday. It was busy with other diners all evening. A warm evening meant that the door was open on arrival, which is so welcoming. We had some really good spanish rose accompanied with bread and olives to start. The chargrilled smell on the bread is to die for. I had the lamb for my main and the lemon meringue sundae for afters. Both were in keeping with the season to a tee. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the kofta had tonnes of flavour. So now for dessert... WOW. Every mouthful was a citrus delight. Lemon curd, lemon sorbet, honeycomb, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, meringue, frozen raspberries and cheeky maple syrup at the bottom!! Now you can see why it was out of this world. Thanks as always Skylark. You are working super hard to produce a wonderful atmosphere with great food and wine and it’s working.

Popped in for coffee, stayed for lunch! The food is to die for; the chef works incredibly hard to provide the best food, and delivers. The food visually is rustic and stunning and has amazing flavour.
The coffee is local and is lovingly presented, with clean yet powerful tasting notes. Well worth the visit. 10/10 would recommend.

Great relaxed restaurant which prides itself on using locally sourced ingredients changing its menu monthly to reflect seasonal produce. Also serves good coffee & “lush” cocktails especially The Raspberry Martini 🍸

We visited Eastbourne for leisurely day out and have Sunday lunch. The reviews looked good so parked up nearby and went for a walk. Upon return, there is a lovely, quaint vibe about Skylark. The staff were friendly and the food of very good quality. Prices were more than reasonable too for the standard of product. Service was a little slow if truth be told but didn’t detract from a positive experience. Would definitely go back, if we were in the area.

A table of 7 and a full restaurant on a Saturday night - could have been a recipe for disaster but we were all very happy with our food and also the wine - an interesting wine menu - so happy to say our first visit went well and we will happily return
It was not a 5 but it certainly was a strong 4 out of 5 The skate wing was the most popular choice in our group but the Bouillabaisse and the lamb cutlets were also delicious
Pudding - just try the salted caramel sundae if you have any spare room around your waist - very naughty but nice

Popped in for lunch - a lovely warm smiling welcome set the tone. We sat in the great suntrap courtyard though inside was very appealing too. The reassuringly small'ish menu offered a nice variety - and there were several tempting choices including vegetarian ones. We went for a baked egg dish (very tasty) and a poached egg with avocado on award winning sourdough toast (both dishes very well prepared and presented) - we washed this down with a nice red and a rose. Oh I should say amongst other things the wine glasses and cutlery were sparklingly clean even in direct sunlight - something that I find hugely important.
Loved our experience here and look forward to returning to this great venue which is open in the evening too.

Really great food for a healthy light lunch! I had the pickled mackerel fillet and veg with a side of the amazing vegan fritters and rocket and my wife the Greek salad. We couldn’t have been more impressed. Sorry for listing photos after we’d already dug in but we were hungry. See you again very soon Skylark

Well this little Bistro, their owners and staff just go from strength to strength. We had a really yummy breakfast with all locally sourced food. The atmosphere was humming and busy with all tables full of a mix of families and couples. The courtyard seats more and is quite delightful with lovely baskets and planting. It is apparent that they are passionate about what they do and it is so lovely to see young people with this drive to produce good food with a twist. Wishing you all continued success. We will definately return every time we visit Eastbourne.

Had been for coffee and cake several times and had been looking forward to trying their evening menu. We like to support new, local businesses and the young couple who run Skylark are keen and enterprising.
Sadly, we were rather disappointed, we had hoped it would be much more tasty than it was. It was all a bit average I'm afraid. Nothing essentially wrong with the ingredients as such, just underwhelming. My starter of ham hock, Sussex cheddar and dill gherkin croquette was tasty, but the straw potatoes were chewy. My partner's spiced crab and crayfish tail salad was very wet, with no spicy flavour at all and could've done with some toast or bread as it was quite sloppy and not attractive on the plate.Main courses of duck (over cooked) and local steak were a bit flavourless and unseasoned. The miso and black peppercorn sauce was thin and tasteless as was the jus with the duck. Both dishes were only just warm. It was as if the chef was not tasting the food himself before sending it out. All a bit bland and, well....meh!
We mentioned our disappointment to the waitress and she apologised. With a couple of glasses of wine each, the bill was over £80 for which I would've expected a palate buzzing with exciting flavour, bad sadly not.
It's a shame as we were so wanting to like it, but I wouldn't rush back.

We don't go out often as a couple, when we do we like to try new places, this was a trip advisor favourite. Booked, offered a table of our choice, the drinks and service were awesome.... The food, omg wow, loved it!! Asparagus with egg was awesome (I'm funny with eggs so they changed the duck egg to a hen egg) thanks so much!! Hubby had croquet of ham hock, chedder and gherkin, I had food envy!! Duck main was to die for and hubby had steak, only dish on the menu he would of eaten turned into the only dish he would've wanted to eat!! Massive love to the chef, along with a fab front of house, friendly, smiley staff with knowledge of the food and restaurant. Awesome night thanks guys x

The service was spot on, not too intrusive but ensured we enjoyed our meal to the full, polite and friendly.
Food was delicious, we had steak and duck for main, with crab salad and ham hock croquettes for starters - all delicious, well presented and enough in quantity. The premises was simple but intimate and trendy.
Overall a lovely evening and will definitely be recommending to friends and family.

Taken by a friends who had dined here a few weeks earlier our initial impression from outside is of a pleasant cafe not of a restaurant for dinner, and for breakfast and lunch indeed that is what it Is! But in the evening the premises are taken over to be a pop up restaurant. If you are not familiar with the concept then it allows dedicated enthusiasts to run a restaurant without needing to find the money for premises. The result as with the Skylark is real talent delivering great quality meals and cocktails, yes real cocktails, at sensible prices. Adequate choice on a menu, that changes monthly, using good quality ingredients and cooked to suit the small number of diners. Results are very, very good, and word has got around so you will need to make a booking!

If you are looking for Michelin star style dining, with locally sourced food, and wonderful service, then this is the place for you.
We popped in for a Saturday lunch as we live just down the road. We started with the salt beef sandwiches and then finished with the salted caramel chocolate torte which was just unreal.
The coffee was fantastic and the staff were lovely and so attentive. Not often you have a faultless meal but this rivalled fine dining in London.
Definitely worth a visit. 10/10!
