We have just returned from a two night stay at the grand hotel,it was for a works social/evening event, the overall look of the hotel is wonderful, but she is looking a bit tired here and there! Our room was ooverlooking the inner courtyard, let's just say the view wasn't the best, as ther wasn't one,and it looked very dirty out there too.The room was spotlessly clean, but really hot!The food we recieved throughout our stay was ok,not what I would call five star, have had better at lower star hotels, overall a nice stay, but very pricey for what you get,but the staff are lovely and welcoming.

This is just a first class hotel in every way. It is truly grand, the rooms are large, clean and very well appointed but what makes the Grand is the staff who are just superb.

Breakfast was excellent along with the service. We could not fault the Grand and will most definitely return, thank you so very much.

My wife and I and two friends stayed at The grand hotel again. We could not fault the service, food and presentation. From the minute you arrive the staff make you very welcome.

We stayed in two of the redecorated rooms and my only adverse comment is that the bed side lights and table lamp now have low energy bulbs fitted which makes the room darker at night so you cannot read. Hopefully, brighter bulbs may be fitted.

I feel that this hotel should be thought of as a grand old lady who nevertheless is extremely sprightly and is not ready to meet her maker for a long time yet. I say this as a result of adverse comments made by other reviewers who are unhappy with the bedroom fixtures and fittings and the general décor. When all said and done, the hotel was built in 1875 for a completely different market. A refurbishment in a more contemporary, clean and modern style would, in my mind, spoil the whole ambience. The décor should not come as a shock to anyone as the hotel’s own photographs make it quite clear how it is furnished. In any case whether you like the furnishings or not you must admit how comfortable the chairs are in the lounges and the restaurants.
As many others have said it is the staff that make the difference. To drive up and in no time at all find that your entire luggage has been unloaded, your car parked for you, check in is complete and a porter is ready to show you to your room. That is magical. From then on there always seemed to a member of staff ready to help you regardless of where you are in the building. Another plus that is overlooked is the turn down service. My wife and I would go down to dinner with the sun streaming into our room but on our return the lights would be on, the beds turned down and the hospitality tray had been restocked and the crockery washed.
I suffer from Coeliac Disease and I have no choice but to stick to a strict gluten-free diet. The kitchen catered for me at every stage. In the lounge I could choose any sandwich I fancied and it would be made with gluten-free bread. Similarly in the restaurant most of the dishes were gluten-free or some that were not were altered accordingly. We dined in both restaurants and enjoyed the different styles immensely.
Comment has also been made concerning the breakfast buffet. As far as cooked food is concerned, you do not have to use the buffet unless you are in a hurry. You can order exactly what you would like and it will be cooked freshly for you. Why anyone would order poached eggs and then use the buffet instead of ordering everything in one go seems a bit odd. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the fresh figs.
We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning.

A fine hotel, beautiful public rooms. Excellent staff, very helpful. Lovely position, parking available on site. Very good bar meal. Lovely breakfast. Poor dinner on the first night, much better on the second night. Indoor swimming pool. Outdoor heated swimming pool. Both most welcome.

I have stayed twice at this iconic Seafront Hotel. Once on business and once private, so I have experienced the busy September period as well as the calm January side of the hotel.

The staff and service is excellent and you get the real feeling of a traditional British seaside hotel. Service, staff and food are all 5 star but bare in mind that the hotel is traditional British and not to be compared with a modern 5 star luxury hotel experience in central London. The hotel has character and charm and we had a great experience here. Dinner was amazing in the Garden restaurant. The hotel also have great meeting facilities with a great beautiful ballroom for weddings or meetings. The Spa was a bit tired and could use a renovation but they do have a outdoor pool too.

The location is just perfect and if you are looking for a typical luxury English experience - this is it. Eastbound town is also a very cute with a very busy bandstand in the summer months with live music. During the winter months the town is very quiet.

Came here for breakfast. We waited for 15 minutes but no one came to offer us a menu or take our order. We got our own menu, but still weren't approached! I have been here before and the service is usually excellent so this time it was disappointing. I'd recommend coming here on sunny days as the terrace is peaceful and you do feel as though you're on holiday. However, this time we visited, we walked out as we got bored of waiting indefinitely to be served!

I live close to Eastbourne, so often pass this iconic seafront hotel, but have never been inside. The opportunity arose when we went to celebrate an important family birthday with a large group of relatives. We stayed for two nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
It was a wonderful experience. Dinner on the first night was in the Mirabelle restaurant, the food was fantastic and the service was faultless. The second night we went to the garden restaurant and the service wasn't so good, but we were in no rush so it didn't matter. The food was worth waiting for...
We had a lovely room, large bright and comfortable at back of the hotel. (My mother was able to have a disabled room on the ground floor.)
I just loved the building, it really is grand. A beautiful interior with lovely leaded light windows. I remember many years ago they used to do tours of the building, and i really wish i had been, i would love to see more of it. Will they ever do that again, i wonder? If they do, i will be first in the queue!

Just a 1 night stay at this magnificent hotel. Everything was perfect, the suite with sea views was very comfortable complete with Nespresso coffee machine and Moulton & Brown toiletries. We had the 7 course taster menu with wines chosen by the sommelier to complement the food, the food combinations were sometimes not obvious but absolutely delicious all the same, the meal was rounded off with a personalised birthday cake & candle. The staff and service levels were first class and the whole experience was wholly memorable, the hotel is rightly called "Grand"

My 3 yr old Son wanted to go on holiday for my Husband was away for work on Easter. We booked last min and were thoroughly welcomed by each and every staff at The Grand. The room was fabulous and there's so much to see and do walking distance to the Hotel. Turn down service for kids (milk and cookie) and even kiddy bathrobes was fabulous. There was a play room which my son enjoyed. One of those places where i would love to take the train to and spend a night.

For an anniversary treat my Wife and I decided to start the day with breakfast at The Grand. We took my Father in law some time ago to celebrate his birthday and lived the experience so decided to start our day in the same way. Booking was easy and on arrival as usual everyone is so polite and welcoming. As you would expect everything from your seat to the selection is fantastic. All the breakfast options you would expect but just better and super service to match. Non guests are £20 and although it sounds a lot I am more than happy to pay it. There are supplements for some dishes but I am confident they would be worth it. A leisurely enjoyable and very tasty breakfast. Treat a loved one and then a nice stroll along the prom to walk it off!

We loved this hotel as it was very comfortable and all our needs were attended to. The hotel was at full capacity as it was the Easter weekend however it delivered a great service and had no difficulties which was impressive. Yea We did have a few issues such as load music playing and being sat in the wrong area of the restaurant BUT the duty manager was absolutely amazing and sorted all of our issues and after our first night when we had these problems, everything was perfect and we had no more issues with anything so I must thank him a lot! The room was lovely and the beds were very comfortable and everyone got a good night sleep. Breakfast and dinner was very tasty and there was certainly something for everyone. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff were very nice and helpful. The outdoor pool was open and was warm to swim in, making it enjoyable. The beach is across the road and there is easy access; you can also walk into Eastbourne from the hotel which we found very useful. If you are looking for good service this is a brilliant place to stay as everything is taken care for you ☺️

Had afternoon tea today at The Grand. It was very enjoyable and my family and I had a very nice time. The staff were great, the venue was lovely and the food was very nice.

My only criticism would be, in my opinion, a single round of sandwiches (4 x quarters each) for £26 per head does not represent good value.

The tea, scones and cakes were nice and plentiful so that compensated a bit. But another round of sandwiches per person would have made the day.

Will return in the summer when the area picks up a bit for the holidays

We stayed here for our anniversary. It's beautiful with amazing service. The restaurant is superb. The rooms are sadly dated and need some serious tlc in order to deserve their 5 stars. The bed was uncomfortable, and the bedding was something that would be more suitable in an aging nursing home.
Luckily the service more than makes up for it.
Breakfast was truly wonderful.

Booked here for a overnight with my husband and from the minute we drove up it was five star, they had parking reservation at the door with our name as a SLH member, staff were great and room was nice and spacious overlooking the sea.
We ate a nice meal in the restaurant and had a great stay.
The hotel looks wonderful from outside however is a little bit dated inside and needs renovations but it didn't spoil our weekend.

I've just spent a most enjoyable weekend break with my pregnant daughter at The Grand.
On arrival we were made to feel most welcome and at all times the staff were polite and courteous. The food was superb and the waiting service excellent. The bedroom which we had was a bit old fashioned but very clean and adequate for our short stay. The entrance to the Spa was a bit shabby but the pool was lovely and warm and the massage I had was lovely and relaxing. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We recently stayed here with our two boys (4 & 7 years old) for a 2 night break in a junior suite. The room was great and perfect size for all 4 of us - we got upgraded to a sea view which meant we had a balcony and table/chairs to sit out on. The hotel itself is very much in the luxury hotel market and while it is a bit frayed around the edges it still has that old world luxury feel about it. I was particularly impressed with how attentive they were to children and the little touches of the easter egg hunt, cookies & milk at bed time and their explorer packs went down a treat with our two. We also made use of the indoor and outdoor pools which the children really enjoyed. Although if I were on a weekend trip for a friend or husband I would find the pool a bit small and the children a really pain.

I wasn't as impressed with the evening dining options - basically you either go for a full meal in the garden room or you are limited to a few overpriced sandwiches in the bar area.

As for Eastbourne - personally I don't think it is a place a would visit agin. There wasn't a whole lot to do and the places to eat were ok but not amazing.

The grand is definitely worth a weekend away with the family - and seemed to cater well to all age groups needs.

We have had several Sunday lunches at this hotel, but never stayed before. As we were meeting up with friends who had travelled from Devon we thought we spend the night at the hotel. Breakfast the next day was a total fiasco, not something expected from a 5 star hotel. it took 30 minutes to cook a poached egg and a fried egg,( which looked like an omelette) our friend waited a further 10 minutes for her poached eggs which she couldn't eat as they were hard, cold and full of water. Very disappointed especially as the charge for b & b was 165 pounds.

This is a "grand" hotel which means it also the building and facilities are a little dated which is in no small means compensated for excellent service from all staff.
Beware that the beds are soft and on the small side (suggest twin vs double) and that there is no AC.

We popped in on Easter Sunday on the off chance of enjoying a glass of champagne at the bar and then we were going to move on somewhere else. However we ended up staying for nearly three hours. It was wonderful. The staff were lovely. We didn't even notice the sign at the door which said all areas were full on both the Saturday and the Sunday until we were leaving. We probably wouldn't have gone in if we had. I think the doorman was a little haughty which is probably why the other reviewer below was not very happy. Anyway the 3/4 course Sunday lunch was delicious. The room is wonderful were 'one' dines. It reminded me a little of The Ritz. I imagine both hotels were built in the same era. The starters were lovely, a selection of 5 different 'bits' , delicate and so tasty. We both had beef for mains which was just perfect. Huge Yorkshire puddings, light and crisp and perfectly cooked veg to accompany. The service was excellent. I had fruit salad for pudding and my partner had the cheese board. We retired to the lounge for coffee. The bill was high but it was worth every penny.

Went for afternoon tea for two and we we're served tea which was cold to start we waited 45 minutes to be served with food even though we had pre booked, we asked to change a sandwich filling and was going to be charged extra and therefore not be served the other selections. Overpriced for the service you get and the setting, as you are seated at the end of the corridor. The food was tasty once arrived and we were offered fresh tea with our food. Average afternoon tea, would not return for the price paid.
