My first time in Eastbourne, stayed for 2 nights, for a 5 star hotel they do their upmost best to ensure you are treated with respect and that your stay is comfortable. I enjoyed every bit of it. Polite and helpful staff, good food, lovely afternoon tea as well! What more could a lady ask for! The spa is worth the extra cost, treat yourself, I did had a lovely facial and a Turkish scrub, in fact I could have spent my whole time within the hotel instead of going for a walk! 😊

Booked for a 3 night stay with my husband from Sunday to Wednesday. On arrival we were upgraded from a deluxe double room to a junior suite and what a treat this was. The room was really lovely with a huge bathroom. The bed was super comfortable and we both slept well every night. The shower was great; powerful and plenty of hot water. Luxuriously thick, soft towels and the Molton Brown products made using the bathroom extra special. If I have one criticism about the room it would be that the TV was some way from the bed, but as the room had a sofa and two arm chairs it's set up for TV viewing from that vantage point and not from in bed, so I'm nit-picking really.
We arrived on Sunday and had lunch in the Garden restaurant. Sunday lunch was delicious, highly recommend the sirloin roast with the best gravy I've tasted outside of my own kitchen; I will only ever cook tender stem broccoli with toasted flaked almonds in future!
Breakfasts were excellent, good quality ingredients and a wide variety. I recommend ordering from the kitchen rather than using the buffet if you want piping hot food, but I'm not criticising the hot buffet at all, it was well stocked and the food was fresh.
We also ate one evening in the Garden restaurant on what happened to be Valentine's Day and the set menu was wonderful. The food at The Grand is fantastic and I would visit regularly if only I lived closer.
Members of the hotel staff were friendly and I don't care if it's part of their training to acknowledge guests whenever they see them, every single member of staff at all levels seemed genuinely friendly and eager to offer assistance.
I wish we could have fitted in afternoon tea as it looked really good.
The pool and gym looked good but we didn't make use of the facilities, just didn't have the time to fit this in.
Our three nights at The Grand were truly fantastic and I cannot wait to return.

We have just returned from a lovely two night winter break. We were upgraded to an executive room with side seaview which was luxuriously appointed and very spacious. The enormous king size bed was supremely comfortable and the bedding and pillows of very high quality. The emphasis is on comfort here. There are thick white towelling robes and matching slippers provided in the large bathroom. And what's more, it is actually a bathroom there is a lovely tub with shower over. There is a full selection of Molton Brown toiletries, thick fluffy white towels and face flannels (not something normally provided in UK hotels). The en suite tea/coffee making facilities are top notch and include kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and quality selection of teas and coffees with biscuits.
The breakfasts are comprehensive from full continental to full English with everything inbetween. There is a buffet on busier mornings, but you can also have everything cooked freshly to order. On my first morning I had a perfectly cooked egg, bacon and tomato cooked exactly as I asked and on the second morning I had the most delicious and beautifully presented kipper. There is an excellent choice of pastries, toasts, teas, coffees and fruit juices.
The staff are, without exception, excellent and unobtrusive. The chambermaid did a wonderful job of cleaning and refreshing our room and shortly afterwards the housekeeper came in and checked her work asking is there was any thing else we needed or she could do for us - impressive.
We had a reserved parking space and as soon as we arrived, our cases where whisked away and delivered to our room.
We dined at the Mirabelle, where once again the food and service are exemplary, as usual.
Can't wait to return to this beautiful 5 star hotel.

I booked a room for my last night in the UK, after an emotional couple of weeks there following a family bereavement. I had a deluxe double ensuite room. On booking check in was stated as 3pm, and I arrived at about 10.30 am hoping only to be able to stash my luggage until the designated check in. I was delighted to be able to access my room immediately-such a boon!
The room was towards the rear of the hotel, very comfortable with a nice ensuite. Some might find the decor a little too traditional for their taste, and I found it soothingly classic.
The only hiccup was the room being situated next to a conference room that was occupied by a somewhat noisy group. Had circumstances been different it may not have been an issue for me, but the noise did intrude into the room and stop me resting; However, a call to reception saw a very timely remedy to the issue and I was able to get some much needed afternoon snoozing in.
On rising I took afternoon tea seated near the charming log fire and felt properly restored. I didn't choose to eat in that evening,
On retiring, I had the most delicious sleep and woke refreshed, ready for my breakfast. I could have had room service for this but enjoyed the chance to people watch as I started my last day in my home town, before flying back to New Zealand.
The breakfast service is tremendous, with excellent choice and beautifully cooked and presented fare.
There is a gracious, comforting sedateness at the Grand which was perfect for setting me up for the long journey home. The quality of service is the jewel in a lovely crown, and makes it worth the reasonable room rate.I felt very welcome, not atall out of place, and very cosseted-highly recommended!

This is a stunning hotel. The staff are welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. We arrived and left the car with uniformed staff for parking. On check in (a Saturday) we were offered a wake-up call and complimentary Sunday Times. When going for an evening stroll before dinner, someone suggested a quiet route for us. We loved the whole atmosphere and really recommend it, whether for the decor, space, efficiency or dining experience.

I stayed at the grand with my other half for a 3 night break in a suite. The rooms were superb. Very clean and well equipped and cleaned daily. The maids even made an evening visit to prepare the rooms. Toiletries supplied were abundant and all Molten Brown. We had dinner in the Mirabelle on the first evening which was lovely. Breakfasts were superb with an array of food including: Cereals, fresh fruit, cooked breakfasts(either self serve) or cooked to order. I used the gym which was well equipped and the spa and the treatments were superb. I found the staff all very attentive and the location of the hotel was perfect for exploring Eastbourne. The view from my room was lovely looking out to sea and the hotel made a perfect base for strolls along the front. All in all a wonderful and very relaxing stay.

After the recommendations of several family members I decided to surprise my wife with a very special anniversary meal. From the outset you are aware of a rather spectacular dining experience. The service is of the highest standard and attentive to all needs. The menu has a great range to suit most tastes and the service staff are happy to help with choices. Each course is served in elequant style and in good pace. Overall the food is of amazing quality matched with the highest standard of service. Definitely recommend this for any special occasion with that very special person!!

There is no doubt that the frontage of the hotel is impressive, even with some scaffolding. But not sure it qualifies as a 5☆ hotel.

The staff are extremely friendly, it would appear that they have been told to acknowledge visitors; whether with a good morning or afternoon, nothing wrong with that.

The deluxe room looked considerably smaller than the picture on their website. Which showed 3 large windows, ours had 1. And did seem cramped. I have walked into 5☆ hotel rooms and literally gone WOW, as the room has been so impressive. One hotel in Stratford upon Avon in particular and their room charge for the night is very similar. They also ask you to pick what kind of pillows you would like and they wouldn't charge £25 to pre book parking. Which does seem really cheeky, yes I've paid £10 for hotel parking, but never £25 to pre book. It is free if you are prepared to take the chance. But we saw several cars double parked so I would take the chance. Save yourself the parking fee. Yes it goes without saying I could have paid for a larger room, I accept that, but the deluxe room wasn't exactly cheap cheap ☺

Cleanliness was exceptional. The lady that cleaned our room couldn't have been nicer.

For a 5☆ hotel, the TV was tiny. You struggled to watch it. A lot of 5☆ hotels have larger TV's and have Sky sports. Not everyone wants them, but nice to have the option.

Although the bathroom was nice the shower was virtually useless. You couldn't stand under the overhead shower as you couldn't regulate the temperature, so you were scalded.

I originally booked an evening meal in the garden room, this is also where breakfast is served. It stipulates "gentleman to wear jacket and shirt", not a problem, but slightly old fashioned. We had taken appropriate wear, but decided to cancel the booking, as friends were joining us & I didn't think it was down to me to tell them what to wear. I have stayed in other 5☆ hotels and this rule is very rare in this day and age. Not a criticism, just stating "no shorts or t-shirts allowed", would be sufficient.

We had a drink in the bar. I paid £13.95 for a margarita, I enjoy my cocktails but even I thought this was OTT. 1 margarita and 1 Leffe £18.90. I don't pay that in a Birmingham city centre cocktail bars.

Breakfast, buffet service, although you can order other items at your table. Again staff very friendly..

The hotel seems to have quite a few functions and it was busy for the 2 nights we were there. We thought it might be quiet due to time of year, but car park was never empty.

Can't fault hotel, apart from ridiculous prices in the bar and restaurant rules. But I feel certain aspects let it down. So not 5☆ for me...

We had a lovely stay at the grand hotel, an old worldly hotel right on Eastbourne seafront.

Pros:
Attentive and friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble
Lots of facilities available - private doctor, shoe polishing etc
Evening turndown service was a nice touch
Large bedrooms with huge comfortable beds and pillows
Luxurious molten and brown toiletries
Coffee machine in the room
Very clean
The breakfast room had lovely table settings, crockery etc.
Beautiful fire in the lounge area

Cons:
£25 to reserve a parking space!
Drinks are expensive at £14 for a basic cocktail and £5 for a pint of beer.
Building needs some refreshing
Breakfast was very nice but you had pay extra to upgrade for certain cooked items. Some of the produce was cheap like the bought in rolls and muffins, the tinned fruit and the juice from concentrate.
Spa facilities were tiny and badly in need of updating. They were comparable to a cheap hotel and there was nothing luxurious about them. The men's dressing and shower area was closed. The ladies area had tiny dressing and shower area with basic toiletries and no body lotion. The pool was small, as was the steam room and lounge area and all were in desperate need of modernisation.

I love this hotel! We stay there often with our two daughters

The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you

They make a point of remembering your name and greet you like an old friend when you arrive.

We will definitely be returning

Have stayed twice and would return again. However!, there are hidden extras that put up the overall cost.

Drinks are very expensive at the bar and they have no tap beers meaning nearing £5 for a bottle that isn't quite a pint even. Lunch of a sandwich and a beer came to £34.

To reserve a car park space is £25.

As said it is everything you would expect for a £200/night out of season hotel price but that easily rattles up to nearing £350 without dinner even.

Nice but be warned and be wary

One of the best hotels on the south coast. Warm helpful staff who are never overbearing. Great food. A beautiful building too but you feel at home here. Rooms are very comfortable with some modern touches like USB chargers. The spa is amazing too.

The Grand never disappoints. A bit expensive but worth it for the old world atmosphere and charm. The staff are friendly, the service is excellent and the food is superb. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with some nice touches like fresh coffee.

Stayed for three nights but wish it was more. From the moment we pulled up on the car park until we left we were spoilt.
We had a parking place reserved and were met by the concierge who sorted our place and carried the luggage to our room. Reception was welcoming and efficient and the hotel itself magnificent and kept to a good order.
The room 143 was of a good size and the bathroom although adequate with all the usual toiletries was on the small side.
The pool and gym were nice but on the small side.
Housekeeping was to a good standard with towels etc replaced regularly including complementary bottles of still water. There is also a turndown service.
Breakfast was made to order with an excellent choice including continental self service.
We stayed for one evening meal which was very good and we paid for the experience as well as the food. 2courses with 2 drinks each and coffee £104 but I was so glad we tried it.
The lounge areas were large and welcoming, service excellent and overall a superb stay. We will return.

My Partner and I have meals at this hotel on a regular basis. We are always impressed at how Ben and his team in the Mirabelle manage to be so professional. This industry is really hard work and extremely tiring. However.... when ever we go in its as though they have all just started their first shift looking bright eyed and bushy tailed. The service cannot be faulted in anyway whats so ever. The food is always prepared to a very high standard.

Had my work Christmas party here, lovely dinner, nice rooms, lovely and quiet so much so you couldn't even tell that there was a party going on down stairs. Staff were all professional and went out of their way to make sure you were ok. Breakfast was also great and was looked after by Jim, awesome host who made sure we ok and gave us a few pointers for things to do locally.

The menu is always interesting and varied. The food is well cooked and seasoned and the portions spot on. I chose the Sirlion of beef which melted in the mouth, others in the party had Lobster linguine and Guinea fowl respectively. All the staff are attentive but unobtrusive. Altogether and excellent experience.

My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic breakfast along with brilliant service, most notably from Jim, who made the whole experience an absolute joy. Great cooked breakfast as well and beautiful smoked salmon and very very good coffee.

We will certainly be back for another. Real fast soon.

Thank you

I can not recommend the grand hotel highly enough, the wedding planner Claire and her team made sure all our needs were covered, the staff are so on point and catered to all our needs and are so happy and helpful, you don't feel out of place here at all, even if your budget isn't a huge amount you definitely get what you pay for, the food is fantastic and everything about this hotel is fantastic, it is a bit old looking but that's it's charm, we will be going back for a night and to use the health club.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand last weekend and booked a side sea view deluxe room which was ok for a 3-4 star hotel but would not have said it stood up to a 5 star hotel room. The mattress was poor and could do with replacing the wifi kept cutting out but there were lovely coffee and tea facilities. The main part of the hotel is vert grand but I would have to say I would describe it as tied grandure.
The staff were lovely and very helpful and the whole place was very clean and lovely to spend time in. We were a little disappointed that we could not have a spa treatment as were told it was all fully booked so I would suggest you book well in advance. The pool in the spa area was rather noisy with lots of kids and families when we were there.
We eat in the garden resturant for dinner one night the food was lovely off the set meal but if you want to go off their set meal the supplements were very expensive typically £6 for a starter and £15 for a main course on top of the set meal price.
Cocktails are also very expensive typically £14- £16 each which is more like London prices they were very nice though.
The breakfasts were lovely and well cooked and you could have it buffet style or order fresh and there was lots of choice.
We often stay at the Grand in Brighton and that is a much superior experience.

We went there for the famous afternoon tea and we weren't disappointed. We were placed by a fire place, with a piano music in the back groud. Then a waitress took our order for the choice of hot drinks asked about any allergy problems. After few minutes came back with a tri tiered service plate fill up of delicious sandwiches, cake and scones. Our tea was refilled when we wanted. We then have a look around and everything was clean and the staff was professional.

After reading some of the reviews I had prepared for the worst with the spa, prepared for the cold, basement experience. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff and service was wonderful, from the initial welcome to reception, to the treatments. The facial was one of the best I have had and lunch was much better than anticipated, felt like our own private spa afternoon tea. Yes there are more luxurious spas but I left feeling suitably pampered and very relaxed, a job well done the Grand, and the staff are a credit.

Spent Xmas 2016 at the Grand with 3 generations of family A step back in time to a traditional British Xmas. Some will find it old fashioned but good food and service and low key entertainment is done very well here.. Some aspects of the hotel are a bit jaded but friendly service makes up for this ..Good but limited spa facilities ..be sure to book ahead.
We will return ...!!😀😀😀..

We booked a NYE package including dinner at the Mirabelle, then read a lukewarm review of it on here. Very glad I did not read that first. We had a wonderful time. The hotel is a large grand seaside hotel that manages to feel like a country-house hotel because the staff are so friendly. Style is traditional (in a nice way), beautifully decorated for Christmas and the dinner at the Mirabelle was superb. Atmosphere in the restaurant was gently jolly, which suited us fine. Two other more lively events on for NYE which looked equally lovely and gave the hotel a cheery celebratory feel. Quite a task to have so much going on and make it look so effortless - congrats to the management.

The huge dining room was packed for the NY's Day buffet brunch, but service was fine, excellent choice, quality ingredients, well cooked and served hot. Our room was a bit small, traditionally furnished with no view, but very comfortable and perfect for an overnighter. Beautiful drive through the Downs within about 10 mins. Will definitely return in the summer, and choose a bigger room, and hopefully for the next New Year .
