The room was dull and very dated in keeping with the age of the hotel , however we had difficulty opening the window as they are original sash style . Once opened we had to prop it up with a shoe ! Also the toilet seat would not stay up which proved difficult at times..... The curtains were filthy so we felt that the cost of the room was far too much for what it offered. The sauna steam and pool areas are very dated and have seen better days so all in all we were somewhat disappointed with the whole experience. The restaurant offers lovely well presented food a little over priced though.

I wanted to take my girlfriend away for a romantic weekend and chose The Grand as I really did not know Eastbourne and so plumped for a hotel with a great website. I booked a romantic break which I hoped would suitably impress both my girlfriend and I. From the moment we arrived we were impressed! The doormen park your car, the valet takes your bags to the rooms, check in was very simple....you get the picture. The hotel was just as you would expect from a fine, traditional establishment such as The Grand and the staff could not have made our stay any more enjoyable. Ben, our waiter in the Mirabelle restaurant, was excellent and very attentive to all the diners.

I'm sure that there are times when this hotel could be busy with screaming children, and perhaps we were very lucky, but we are certainly coming back. Thank you to all at The Grand for making our romantic weekend away so special and memorable.

The grand hotel lives up to it's name - very pleasing on the eye, reception areas that are impressive, with staff that are friendly, approachable, responsive and effecfive at what they set out to accomplish, which is customer delight.

Challenge them with a cocktail request, then settle back and relax.....

Sorry, I cannot review the hotel itself, as we only stayed for lunch on this occasion, but the experience gives me great confidence in the services I did not sample on this visit.
I arrived with an older friend and an older couple. The friend needed a wheelchair, which we had, and the doorman took over. Helped the friend in the chair, pushed her inside, took my car keys and left us to enjoy ourselves.
Stupidly I had not booked the carvery for lunch but the lounge was excellent. Furniture was moved without hesitation to accomodate the wheelchair, the food and drinks were of a very high standard and the service a pleasure to encounter.
Leaving was as easy as arrriving. The keys returned with the car attached, the wheelchair placed in the boot and off we went with happy memories. Great place - must visit again.

Excellent hotel. We had a sea view room on the first floor, which was slightly blocked by trees. The decor, ambience and staff couldn't be faulted. Very good breakfast and excellent dinner. Close to the Congress Theatre (the reason for our stay). It is expensive, but worth paying for if you want a first class experience. About half a mile from the pier. Beachy Head is about 10 minutes' drive and both Birling Gap and Cuckmere are another 10 minutes.

We go back to this hotel for a short break every year. They often have deals like 3 nights for 2 and it is a great place to relax and enjoy a treat break. The service is impeccable the quality of food is excellent and the ambiance very chic. The icing on the cake is definitely the heated enormous outdoor pool, our favourite facility.

The Grand certainly won't suit all tastes but then it comes with a price tag that won't fit all budgets. From the moment you arrive and the valet parks your car whilst the bellboy unloads your luggage and whisks it away to your room, you know you've arrived! Travelling as a couple with a small child, we didn't much feel like "dressing for dinner" so we ate out each night but we did enjoy a fine breakfast each morning and made extensive use of the spa and health club - particularly for swimming: outside when the sub was shining and in the indoor pool when it wasn't. Our Junior Suite didn't have a sea view but we could still see the sea and it made for a very comfortable living space whilst the fold-out bed was perfect for our little one.

The location was marvelous. We stayed here because of it's easy proximity to hiking along the coast and the towns of Hastings and Lewes. My husband also likes to golf and the Royal Eastbourne is just 15 minutes away, and a beautiful place to golf. The walkway along the English Channel is right out the front door. We hiked along Beachy Head and along the Cuckmere River just up the road past Birling Gap.

The facilities at the hotel were generally very nice. The dining room was very comfortable and dining and breakfast service were very good. If you plan to eat at the hotel, make sure to make reservations ahead of time as the earlier spots fill up quickly. We didn't know so ended up eating usually after 8, which was fine in June as the days are so long. They have a very nice indoor pool and spa area as well as a very nice, clean outdoor pool which were very enjoyable.

The interior spaces are very nice and quite charming. It was wonderful to relax with a book and a beer (or tea) in the sunny porch area. Service is available throughout the day if you want a drink or snacks.

The dining room staff was efficient and friendly. They do provide Gluten Free options. If that is a concern, they will take care to serve you properly (always a plus for me.)

The room was just OK. We had a sort of interior room that overlooked an inner courtyard. No view at all. Probably the worst location in the hotel. The hotel was almost fully booked, so upgrading to something with an ocean view was prohibitively expensive, so we kept our original booking. The bed was not the best, but we slept just fine. We did ask for a room fan which was promptly delivered just after we got to our room and realized the inner courtyard location was rather stuffy air wise.

Housekeeping did a wonderful job tidying the room and freshening up the linens. They offer turn-down service and in-room tea, coffee, and biscuits.

We have a wonderful time and look forward to returning -- and hopefully having a room with a view!

We have just returned from this hotel for the second time. We stayed in room 128 which comprises bathroom, bedroom, separate lounge, and balcony with table and lounger chairs overlooking the sea The room was kept beautifully clean and well maintained. The staff at the hotel addressed us by name and were well presented and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Just a note for any wheelchair user the doorways to the rooms are not wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Would definitely stay at this hotel again and would request the same room although expensive, but you pay for luxury.

Comfortable hotel with great baby sitting facilities if you don't mind paying for it in the evenings and a good daytime kids club. Convenient location. Garden restaurant Dining room staff somewhat variable on service that might be expected from a 5 star although the mirabelle does live up to its name and deserves credit.

While staying in Eastbourne we visited the Grand for afternoon coffee and hot chocolate, both of which were exceptional. The hotel is rich in history and commands an exceptional vista over Eastbourne. Live music of the highest standard was provided for guests and the quality of service offered was second to none. We arrived around lunch time on Saturday and the hotel was managing a wedding party and lunch time guests. Despite how busy the hotel was and how little we had ordered we were looked after exceptionally well by all duty staff. The most senior of the duty staff visited us three times within a 30 minute period to check on our welfare. Exceptional service and probably why the Grand has such a well earned top reputation. Visiting the Grand is a must and preferably at a time when live music is available. We had already booked out accommodation in Eastbourne but a return visit to the Grand to stay is definitely on the radar.

We had two nights here which were very disappointing. The hotel is old and in need of refurbishment. We were given room 118 which is supposedly an updated room.It overlooked a side street and was on the first floor. The room was large but the bathroom tiny, dark ,old and in need of refurbishment. There was nowhere to put ones toiletries and no space for two people. The taps were all peeling and there was a dirty rubber mat for the bath which I would not have stepped on.The headboard was broken and the furnishings in the room very old and worn. The room was noisy especially in the mornings when at 7am the dustbins were collected.there was no internet in the room, although they said there was. Breakfast in the dining room was fine and tea was also fine.We have written to the manager but he was not very helpful in his reply, stating that that is the hotel and we should have complained at the time!

I t wasn't the Budapest Hotel and it wasn't the Lake Palace in India - it was The Grand Hotel, aka The White Palace,
Eastbourne - so why would we go there...?

Upon arrival we were greeted by an enthusiastic & very polite doorman and our cases were whisked away as if by magic-- at the front desk was a welcoming English smile....(sigh...)
As we walked into the Hotel, the Sunday musical performance was in full swing, with oldies from times gone by.. a good excuse for afternoon tea, which was beautifully presented.
Such a historical place, I wondered how many romances and secret affairs had happened here..( stop, stop maybe I am over romanticising this place - rewind...!)
The White Palace exudes history--- even the carpets have an old fashion smell...
Room 111 was small, tidy and beautiful but with a continuous foghorn noise coming from outside so we asked to be moved to another room. They accommodated us without aquarrel and we were put in a lovely Suite Though the sitting room appeared to have been untouched by the cleaning lady .
The curtains could not be drawn but I managed and use my hairpin to hook them together with some success.
In bed ,,, cricking noises every time we moved - thank God we weren't "honeymooning" ... Anyway, I do love historic places ( i even have a National Trust Membership) and the Grand Palace certainly relies on historical grandeur.
The service : They were right when they said " if you need help with translation... our staff can help"
They were young, efficient and from all over Europe but with little sense of humour and looked stressed or maybe overworked? I don't expect BlackAdder but a bit of humour would have gone a long waaaaaaaay.
I felt that we had to hurry our dinner because tables needed to be prepared for the following day.

On the whole .. there is room for improvement--the November Pasadena Roof Orchestra -- sadly I'll give it a miss ...
the cost - almost £500 for the weekend!
... To be continued next time..?

This is a very outstanding and quality hotel. The occasion was our Anniversary and we had a tremendous meal in the Garden Restaurant and we stayed in a Beautiful Room with outstanding features, and the next morning we had a delightful breakfast, with a great choice, it was beyond expectations. This isn't the first visit, my daughter gave us a meal for 2 People in there Mirabel Restaurant, she couldn't have chosen better.

We were with our family at a company event last Friday and stayed for one night. Everything was arranged to perfection - suite room with small bed and cot for our boys, all the details of a true luxury stay. Meals were incredible but the best thing I have to say is regarding the warmth and professionality of all the staff from reception to doormen to waiters and room staff. Everyone amde sure our stay was exquisite.

Thank you!

Had a wonderful spa weekend here with my daughters, from the time we pulled up outside in our car.....where it was promptly whisked away to be parked and our luggage taken to our rooms, to a beautiful lunch and afternoon tea,and an even better 3 course evening meal. The staff were attentive and extremely helpful and we could not have asked for better service. We enjoyed wonderful spa treatments and a great nights sleep on very comfy beds. I must say a really wonderful treat that I would definitely recommend.

We went for The Great Hall Afternoon Tea whilst on our 'mini moon' in Eastbourne. It was such a beautiful afternoon tea and the staff were very attentive.
In future I would have opted for the champagne afternoon tea!!
They also offer a version of afternoon tea for children.

Great 1 night stay in this beautiful hotel. From the warm welcome given by the concierge team to a friendly and helpful room service waiter, everyone made us feel at home without being intrusive.
Breakfast was good although it is better to avoid busy times if you can.
We will definitively stay again

This is an expensive five star hotel. We had gone there for a treat and to meet up with a friend and his partner who was also staying. Our first impressions were wow! On arrival the concierge took our bags from the car (which was parked for us) our luggage was put on a carrier and a liveried porter waited whilst we are welcomed and signed in and then escorted us to our room. The best service ever. We did not pay top dollar for our room so sea views were not expected but, for the price, we were disappointed by a less than bright room with a small window overlooking the center of the hotel. This area was roofed and we think housed the kitchens and could have done with some renovation although the frontage of the hotel was immaculate. You could not see this however unless you went up to the window as it was positioned quite high up. Service at the hotel was very hit and miss. There was some very competent staff but others seemed to be very unenthusiastic and "tired". Our stay was however only a few days after the big seafront airshow so this could have literally been the case. Breakfast was good with a tasty selection both buffet style and freshly prepared. Timing here though seemed to be the key. we came down to eat about 8am and had our coffee and tea at the table within 5-10 mins, toast 10-15 mins along with a nice piece of haddock and attentive staff. Our friends came down about 40 mins later when it was notably busier and had to wait nearly 20 mins for their tea (which was stewed and had to be sent back), a porridge order did not make it and it was impossible to catch a waiters eye to get more toast and another coffee. This was the same at the next two breakfasts with the staff not coping very well at the busier times and delays in orders and difficulties in getting the attention of staff. Drinks were very pricey and again the service varied. A good example would be asking for tea, one came up the lady was VERY good put the items on the tray out 'just so' offered to pour and came back to ask if we wanted anything else. Another occasion the tea was just delivered on the tray. the "complimentary" biscuit forgotten along with the sugar (which I had to chase after her for). The cost of the tea ~£5. We had dinner there one night which again was expensive but the cost would not have mattered if the food had matched. Nothing particularly wrong with it but just not quite up to the standard expected, as was the rest of our stay.

This is a great hotel, but a little on the expensive side. The service here is excellent, with the staff very polite and professional. The building is in good condition and very clean. However, we had a nice selection of grass and weeds growing out of a sill in front of our sea view window. This is not a complaint, but an observation. Lots of nice touches on arrival e.g. free Times, milk and biscuit each night for our 5 year old and a selection of fizzy drinks. We got lucky with the weather so we used the outside pool, which was great. This had a drinks service which really made it feel special. There is a life guard on hand too. The pool was lovely and warm and it had a good kids section. A very safe pool and in very good condition. To be fair, being warm and attended does not come cheap, so the room rate is being well spent. The car park is free too with

Stayed at the Grand for a two day break. As it was Bank Holiday weekend I felt that I was lucky to get in. I will start with the negatives first. The room (343) was at the back of the hotel overlooking the fans for the kitchen were noisy and finished late and started up again at 02:45, if I was there for a longer time I would have asked for a change. The room was also hot, when I asked for a fan they brought one straight away. Now the positives. The Staff were all friendly and helpful. I arrived at the hotel at 13:00 and I asked optimistically if the room was ready and the Receptionist told me that it was. The room had a nespresso machine. The breakfast was great I cannot say anything about The restaurants for lunch or dinner as I did not use them. The outdoor pool was really good. I will definitely be using the Grand (Eastbourne) again.

Perfect in every way from the moment your greeted at the door, till the moment you leave. Staff polite, helpful and looking very, very smart. Room had a sea view, was very large and spacious (room 328). Had afternoon tea, again just perfect.. Then used the spa and the pool. Best aromatherapy massage ive ever had. Breakfast plentiful and delicious. Felt thoroughly spoilt. Was sent there with daughter for a nights respite from caring for autistic adult son..... And it did the job, we laughed, we enjoyed listening to the sea, we relaxed in the beautiful luxurious surroundings and soaked up the ambience....
