We drive two hours each way once a year to visit The Grand Hotel for afternoon tea.
Their staff have all been trained to a very high standard to deliver the best experience to guests.
The tea consisting of sandwiches, cakes, scones & strawberries also consistently good.

Great breakfast and communal areas are lovely and opulent. However the rooms themselves need updating as very old and worn. We felt like we'd traveled back in time. Overall an ok stay but we wouldn't stay here again.

Booked high-tea here following a funeral; apart from messing up "vegan" with gluten free, everything was excellent. The food was delicious and the service very attentive and professional. The building itself is magnificent. Should we find ourselves in Eastbourne again I expect we'd certainly consider the Grand Hotel for our stay!

We had a really lovely stay here for my boyfriend’s birthday. Although we would have been dissapointed with the initial room, we were moved to a larger, more luxury suite as the internet didn’t work in the first one.
The food in the Mirabelle was incredible, very high quality of service and the spa was lovely too. Would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a 5* hotel experience!

Very special, elegant and full of wonder. Lovely historical building. We went for afternoon tea and is was very relaxing and we soaked up the atmosphere. The hotel staff were happy to show us th Debussy suite where Debussy supposedly worked on his musical composition 'La Mer'. The suite had magical views of the seafront.

We have stayed here several times and always been happy with the staff who are both professional and friendly. This time our room certainly wasn't 5* standard, it was small and very tired. The breakfast is excellent but the evening meal in the Garden Restaurant was also disappointing, not really being able to cope with dietary needs that had been advised beforehand. All in all not up to the standard we have previously experienced.

Won't be staying again. We had a 2 night weekend break for my birthday. The room was large however the bed must be the worst hotel bed I have ever slept in ( so soft, it was like a water bed). We had to plug the hair dryer in by the front door as no plugs near the dresser. Massive bathroom with the smallest bath ( strange with all the space). Breakfast was lovely and dinner very disappointing. We choose from the £58 a head menu (starter was OK not great) main again for was OK not great I had the lamb with an oblong shaped potatoe the food was luke warm. My partners meal was steak and chips he asked for rare it was medium rare ( we had already startered the dinner by the time they came to ask was everything OK) my partner pointed out about the bland chips they didn't taste of anything at all and it had 10 to 12 cherry tomatoes on the plate ( why so many who eats 10+ cherry tomatoes). They did offer to change his meal but we had already waited quite a while as the dinning room was packed and very busy ( Saturday night). So he would of been eating his dinner on his own it's just a tricky one as in hindsight we should of sent both dinners back. On check out they asked if everything was OK so we said it was disappointing she offered to get resturant manager but there's not a lot he can do after the fact. The staff are really professional and I enjoyed the pool, spa area.

I've never stayed here but I have been several times for lunch in the Garden Restaurant which was a good solid roast Sunday Lunch.
Additionally I have been for afternoon tea. Which was excelled too.
The Mirabelle restaurant is the icing on the cake though. I have left a separate review for the Mirabelle.

Good clean site.disabled facilities first class. Train line at the rear of the site a bit noisy but not as noisy as it must be for the folks living next to it. Train traffic stops late evening and starts again just after 5am. Would use again.

We went with two other people for afternoon tea and honestly we were not very impressed. Rather than be seated a table we were shown to a coffee table with settees around which made it difficult to the table, and the selection of food was poor which made it less than expected.

Only went for a wake to a funeral that we had been to but managed to park in the grounds carpark. Friendly staff. Beautiful decor and very nice food. Not sure about prices for rooms but very impressive.

Its a lovely building but not sure that i would rate it a 5* the roons smell a bit musky...the carpet is a but worn in certain rooms. Looks like it needs a carpet clean through the whole place.
Staff were lovely though and very accomodating....i would def go back again

How could it possibly be 5 star? Nothing is perfect is it? Well actually this is as close as it gets. The best you will experience is true service from someone who actually loves his or her job. The worst you will get is great service from someone who is fairly new but intent on making the grade. So they start at 5.5 stars and deduct a half for modesty.

Fantastic service and rooms but Wi-Fi not working in the room and even worse they had run out of Aperol at the bar! Didn't expect a king size double bed to be 2 single beds pushed together either...but service is very good and has gym and pools

Lovely place though could use a bit of a spruce. New carpet without a tear in it would be marvellous in the main hallway... Tripped up in my posh heels :/ staff apologetic.

Just as relaxing as last year. If you like something special and being waited on choose The Grand. The staff can't do enough for you. Very good facilities.

Enjoyed coffee with friends this morning but people were complaining about the lack of shortbread biscuits. Would have preferred them to the chocolate ones. Very good service

The bed sunk in the middle which made for a restless night. I judge anywhere first by the quality of sleep so regardless of the beauty of the hotel I have given the grand 3 stars due to the bed. We did report this on checking out.

A classic hotel, on the inside looks very much like the one in Home Alone2:Lost in New York. I was wandering around foyer in a hope to meet Donald Trump, to ask him how to get to the lobby. But he was nowhere to be found, maybe he's busy these days, perhaps working in another hotel.
Nespresso machine in a room seemed like a nice touch too. Though 3 capsules are never enough.
