What can I say, this was a surprise birthday treat for my partner and the staff were so attentive. Great food, good selection of teas and really good value. Amazing setting. Thank you to the staff for such a wonderful afternoon!

From the moment we arrived to departure, the service we received was excellent. We stayed in one of the Master suites, all of which are beautiful. The meal in the Garden restaurant on the first night of our stay was exceptional. Our dog was made very welcome too.

Good, apart from one or 2 issues with my room. The hotel has an ethos of good service and a high standard of care to guests and attention to detail in all that they set out to do. It is far removed from the economic, run and go, modern establishments that proliferate in this modern age.

please refer to comments in previous page. to sum up the night bar staff were rude and arrogant in questioning a guests integrity having paid a large sum of money for a room which was no better than a two star hotel,

We stayed for one night between Christmas and New Year in a deluxe inland room. The room was OK, but the decor was very dated and in need of refurbishment. The hotel is very much "grand", but "five star" is perhaps a stretch. The spa was OK, which included small heated indoor pool and steam room. Our evening meal, included in the package, was good...very traditional and nothing to complain about. Our two big complaints were:

1) being abruptly woken by the complimentary newspaper being thrown at our door (if we had known that would happen, we would have declined the offer) and

2) the service at breakfast...this was simply appalling. It must have taken 45 minutes between taking our order until the food was served. We were not the only guests to complain about this. We all had to chase the restaurant staff until it eventually arrived. We were very close to simply walking out and getting breakfast elsewhere.

We will probably stay elsewhere when we next visit Eastbourne.

Booked a three night break in November for new year's eve. Got there to be told the Seaview I had paid for was not available and had been given out to someone else manageress arrived and sorted the problem and we got a Seaview. Lots of people checking in as 2 coach parties had just arrived the lift kept breaking so was a bit manic. My partner and I decided to grab a drink at the bar and wait until the rush had gone. Got chatting to a nice group from Leeds the found drinks expensive but as we live in the south we found they cheap.Room was very basic but clean shower didn't have much pressure but water was nice and hot. That evening went down for a 3 course meal it was a bit unorganised and some people waited a long time for their food I found the meal ok. After we went downstairs for evening entertainment only annoying thing I found was coach parties had their meals downstairs so they had best tables. Next morning went for breakfast good choice and alot of it that evening new year's eve again very unorganised in restaurant and people waited along time to get food. We had Google the entertainment that was on that night and knew it was not going to go down well most people downstairs came up to lounge the band left and hotel arranged another act so all in all a good night. Summing up I think the hotel needs to act on mistakes made ie more staff better training but I had a great time met some amazing people and laughed loads. Some people were not very happy didn't like food room etc but for the money paid and what we got I thought it was very good value and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would I go back for next new year yes I would as had a laugh

Stunning hotel capturing a bygone era in a beautiful seaside location. Staff work very hard to ensure you have a special stay. We had a minor issue with our reservation which was handled swiftly and efficiently by on of the excellent staff.

Most enjoyable. Enjoy "old fashioned" quality service from friendly staff. The food this year was particularly good whilst we thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment provided. We very much like to see so many familiar faces, both staff and guests.

From the moment we arrived till our departure three days later everything was perfect. The car was parked for us, all details of the stay were clearly explained and there was a wonderfully calm atmosphere throughout.

The room was fine but the bathroom much too small and two people could not be there at all at any time just to glance in the mirror. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was quiet. There was very poor lighting in the bedroom.

Stayed for Christmas House Party. Hotel service was exemplary as usual upon arrival and Hotel still retains her 'Old World' charm and dignity. It sadly went wrong for us from breakfast Christmas Day morning in the restaurant. Key staff were absent and it was a post code lottery upon what level of service you received depending on where you were sat, we could clearly see that some tables received a much better level of service than ours. This poor level of service in the dining room continued throughout our stay. Depending on what time you dined also affected the quality of food, my roast potatoes on Christmas Day had clearly been reheated. It is such a shame as staff are so pleasing and amenable.

What a beautiful property! Lovely greeting on arrival and that continued throughout our stay - the staff we very customer focused and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was amazing, so spacious and beautifully decorated - old world charm. And the kids had a great time too, lovely little touches for them, they especially enjoyed the kids pack on arrival and the milk and cookies at bedtime. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we would definitely recommend and hope to return.

This place never disappoints, a genuine 5 star experience. My family has been coming back here for several years now and it is always fabulous! From the welcome on arrival, food, rooms and service to the fantastic location this place will always remain a firm favourite.

Stayed on a two night NYE package and must say, the hotel is lovely. A real old world, romantic hotel that seems to have been sadly lost to the corporate bed factories. Room was very big, clean and comfortable.
Staff were superb considering this was the tail end of a very hard month in the industry.
New Year’s Eve was very well organised and the second half of the entertainment was excellent, making up for what can only be described as a pretty woeful opening act.
My only real gripe was that on New Years itself, we felt that the rationing of the champagne and canapés before the meal was a bit mean. Come now, for the prices we were paying, it wouldn’t have hurt for someone to wander round topping up the glasses every so often. I understand there are costings and allocations involved when putting packages together but we were paying £1,200 for a two night stay....only a small gripe but these things separate the good from the really good, classy five star establishment.

I stayed here for a night in April with a friend expecting a lovely hotel, especially given the price, £200 for 1 night. The hotel is grand but has a very dated feel to it, which I’m sure suits some tastes. The first room we were given was really quite bleak, it was tiny, looked like it had last been decorated in the 70s with an old carpet, worn furniture, a view of a flat roof, and a dirty bathroom. I quickly called reception and they were very good at changing our room quickly, and the second room was much better, clean and recently redecorated with a large comfortable bed.

We were lucky to have great weather in April and the outdoor pool was amazing! The indoor spa is again dated and quite dingy. Breakfast was delicious but has a mass catering feel to it in a very large dining room.

Real old fashioned Hotel. Charming. Wonderful front of house staff from porters to receptionists. Lovely afternoon tea served by charming waitresses. Room v clean and spacious and comfortable bed. RESTAURANT - having booked through a comparison website we were given no warning of dress code. The preference when we arrived was collar and tie. This is fair enough but I did not have one with me. I dressed in proper trousers, shoes and quality jumper and t shirt. On attending the restaurant (prepaid meal as a package) I was made to sit outside the restaurant like a naughty school boy by a wine waiter whose shirt has not seen an iron whilst they decided if my attire was good enough. I appreciate the hotel has a policy but you need to look at letting websites know and changing the word preference in your own room brochures. It is just as well the young ladies who served us so beautifully at dinner prevented a two star review.

We love the the grand at Brighton, so this year stay tried to stay here for a night before we head to Brighton. The hotel itself looks amazing, lovely decoration and I really love sitting next to the fireplace! The room is a lots cleaner than most of the hotels we had visited, the room service is excellent, but they will need to order new mattress for sure! The only downside was we both found a bit uncomfortable and was ignored by the staff, as all the staff only focus on serving people who are having afternoon tea there and we just went there for drinks in the seating/bar area! Also, Dinner is just so-so and we weren’t not too keen with the dessert - there’s definitely room for improvement, but I had to say the table service at dinner table was excellent. Hubby managed to test out the spa (sauna n steam rooms)and he’s not impressed with it as it’s not very clean n got blood on the seat and floor... Unfortunately, I don’t think we will go back again but it’s a nice hotel to visit!

I redeemed a birthday voucher for a mini spa day. On the positive, the staff were very professional and I enjoyed the treatment and lunch that were included. Unfortunately, as far as a place to spend a relaxing day, it left a lot to be desired. Firstly the whole spa area is in the basement of the hotel, with no natural light, even where you have lunch is the same. The seating area is minimal. Everything was looking more than a little tired, including the sauna and steam rooms. The pool and Jacuzzi are pleasant but also fairly small. As a non resident you are not permitted to use the outside pool area, which would have been much nicer. Compared to other hotel and day spas I have been to, there simply wasn't enough to keep me entertained for a whole day and considering this is a 5* hotel, I was disappointed.

I have been coming here off and on again for the past 22 years. Last night was the first time I have had dinner here being in the past only having lunch, afternoon tea or staying. In the past they have been great wonderful service exactly what one would expect from a 5* hotel. This time was no exception. The food was delicious and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Their garden restaurant was sublime with a very relaxing atmosphere. There menus are set menus offering two different versions to pick from. One being £45 for 3 courses and the other being £65 for 3 courses. Both offering a wide selection of dishes and sorbet palette cleanser between. After dinner we sat for an hour or so in front of a massive fireplace with burning fire within, having coffee and more relaxation before having our jackets retrieved by the staff and departing. 5* always in every way. I hope this remains so after their refitting.

Lovely 5 star hotel that whilst very large still retains a very personal atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful including the traditional door man! Parking is free but limited considering the size of the hotel. They offer facilities for private functions and parties and have a range of restaurants and tea rooms.

Considering the price which was over 400 pounds a night I could not park in the car park and had to park on the side roads. The deco was average with carpets in the room needing to be updated and there was minor mess in the room on arrival, no fridge or air con.
The food was good, staff friendly but overall I didn’t feel I had value for money.
It looks great on the outside but very mediocre internally. I think they feel they are better than they are!

We have stayed many times over the last few years at the Grand, it Is like a home from home. The staff are excellant with the right balance of ptofessionalism and friendliness. We stayed in a junior suite this time which was superb although the bed was a bit small and too soft! The Garden restaurant Is good, excellent food served in a very pleasant setting. The day rooms are comfortable and once again staff are attentive. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to returning later in the year.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening having drinks in the bar with friends. Good selection of wines and local beers. Live band provided an excellent backdrop without being intrusive. The bar snacks were excellent and good value for money. Would recommend The Grand as an excellent place to meet friends and have a drink.
