Lots of space, gift shop, cafe with views of tennis courts, activities for kids, lots of staff on hand to answer questions, really cool super-sized lift - we enjoyed spending a couple of hours as a family and all free!

Excellent father & Son exhibition on at the moment centering around birds, nesting and the illegal oologist activity and how it came to be gradually eradicated. Mixed media and very informative.

Lovely spaces and exhibitions, fantastic children's sensory room and even more lovely café - brilliant weekly parent/toddler Tiny Towner sessions too - just a wonderful gallery with lots to offer. Thanks to all who work there and run it!

Staying opposite so visited on a rainy afternoon. The building felt impressive but just not enough art to see. What was on offer was contemporary but would have liked to see more traditional art. As it is free can’t complain. I did see a room with kids having fun so that was good.

Very good quality gallery. Nicely set out and with a good cafe (with terrace) when you need a break.

London standard of gallery here on the South East coast.

The gallery, which is on three floors has a great feel to it. Entry is through the rather expensive shop leading to the ground floor exhibits. The stairs lead to further galleries and a well facilitated popular cafe. We spent some time in the thought provoking At Altitude exhibition; the staff many of whom were volunteers, were friendly and helpful. However, I wondered if the directors had sacrificed too much of the traditional art that used to hang in the Old Town Towner for the avant grade?

Just three floors. Easy to walk around with lots of resources for children. Large print guides available for the Edward stott exhibition. However the details of each painting could have been bigger, as lots of people were peering to read at the same time. The exhibition was great! The cafe looked lovely and the shop had beautiful stock. And it’s free to get in!

I have visited this gallery twice while in Eastbourne and both times found the temporary exhibitions most interesting and stimulating, staff very friendly and helpful, and the display areas spacious and airy. There is also a permanent display featuring the local artist Eric Ravilious which merits a visit in its own right. The gallery and exhibitions were generally free, though there was a charge of £5 for the recent Edward Stott exhibition.

The gallery itself is impressive, but not a huge collection of art. I enjoyed several pieces and staff were friendly and helpful. Most of the art was not my particular cup of tea but others will enjoy.

This modern art gallery had an interesting exhibition of works by Edward Stott while we were there. What ever the exhibition though its well worth a visit if you are interested in art. Pleasant small cafe on the top floor.

It was either this June or July when we visited with our guests from South Africa. The exhibition is small and very modern, in fact it reminded me of the Tate on the South Bank as there were a couple of exhibits that went way over my head. Well worth a visit and free to all.

This place looks closed as it under refurbishment. The gallery is sand coffee shop is still open and a great place to visit. Ideal for a wet day too. Will be even better when complete.

The Towner is a great place to go on a rainy day in Eastbourne. The Ravilious artwork is always brilliant, and they almost always have a free exhibition on. It's also great for kids - they have a space for children to hang out and create, we were there for an hour last time with my little one, being all creative!

The Urban Ground cafe is great as well, with wonderful views of the tennis courts.

This gallery demonstrates how challenging it is to show major exhibitions outside London. The building is a recent concrete structure which is neither unpleasant nor inspiring. We visited the Edward Stott exhibition described enthusiastically as a "Master of Colour and Atmosphere". This was disappointing and most of the paintings appeared poorly executed apart from those in dark varnish and the sketches which showed far moor detail than the works that developed from them. This exhibition cost £5 to enter but the remainder of the rooms are free. There is a film about drone strikes from 2011 (Omer Fast) but this has now been superseded by a number of movies such as Eye in the Sky. There is also an exhibition dealing with aerial views (At Altitude) which had some old photographs but it was not thought provoking. I noticed the cafe looked pleasant and there are also good views across the Tennis Club. Maybe worth visiting at the end of your list if your are holidaying in Eastbourne.

First visit for some months and we were pleasurably surprised by the exhibitions and particuarly the Ravilious room. We were also most impressed by an exhibition of paintings by Edward Stott - a painter we had not come across before but we felt they deserved the publicity of an exhibition here.

Visited mainly to have a look at the Eric Ravilous exhibition, but also found plenty of other interesting things to see.

Visited with my wife. I am a rugby and cricket loving old fart so found little of real interest but my hugely artistic young wife loved it. We agreed that the coffee shop was great. Our waiter is a tennis coach so enjoyed talking to him.

This was my second visit to this beautiful gallery. Having enjoyed the fantastic Eric Ravilious exhibition some months ago, I just wanted to have a quick look at the Ravilious Room. Nothing disappointing there except...... the appalling spelling, grammar and punctuation on the information accompanying the works. Please get someone who knows how to construct a sentence in to improve matters..... I know the art is the most important thing but this lack of attention to detail does show the public something about the gallery's attitude.
And the cafe was closed!
