It was a great gallery space. The Eric Slater exhibition was lovely. The cafe is beautifully designed, is pristine and full of natural light and with a really nice view.

This gallery really looks the part. Lovely spaces and put together by people who really appreciate and know their art. Love it. Great shop as well. Look out for the open show - fab.

I've been a fan of the Towner since it opened - the building looks great outside and in, and there's a really interesting variety of art on offer. There is usually a mix of paid-for and free exhibitions, which have included both local and international artists as well as community art exhibitions (tying in with local schools and services).

I'd really recommend the tour of the gallery, which takes you behind the scenes to the storage section - fascinating!

Favourite pictures - Eric Ravilious. Good to see his pictures of the local Sussex Downs. There is a nice variety of genres throughout the gallery. Not too keen on the contemporary art, which seemed too overtly political and rather depressing!

Wonderful modern gallery building showing three good art exhibitions and a really interesting programme of events and lectures. Cafe was pleasant and the downstairs gallery shop was small but enticing..

The town area has a very good variety of shops but could do with more toilets. Also, a good selection of cafes. Debenhams unfortunately is very tired and dated and very hot! as in temperature ~ too uncomfortable to visit and buy anyhthing. Had a nice capuccino and piece of cake in a cafe just inside the main entrance but can't remember it's name.

The Towne used to be in an old building in Eastbournes Old Town and was very much an "Eastbourne Based" museum and art gallery.
The new Towner is very much of the times. Bright and airy with ever changing exhibitions.

Fresh and inspring, a quaint gallery with certainly a lot of attraction from what we saw. Another place to visit whilst in town

This is just what an art gallery should be. Of interest to all ages and far better than the De La Warrant at Bexhill.

Good gallery of differing works but the local stuff really nice. The oversize lift worth a go too and decent views from the topmost floor. A nice small and manageable gallery.

Very unimaginative sandwiches, a bit better with cakes.
Very nice coffee though. Perfect for a hot drink with great views from the terrace, but mostly when you stand up (as the balcony is high).

the building itself is worth a look, but we loved the mix of exhibition AND enagement with the local schoolkids - it's a hard combination and the Towner seems to have got it right.

loved the design of the art gallery but have to say i do find galleries lacking in real interest for me, I would like to see a greater mix of different media and also using sound to make a much more full experience, but thats just my feeling.

There are both traditional and contemporary exhibits on show here, and a strong commitment to local involvement with residents both contributing to and co-curating the shows. Not too big a venue, wonderful use of natural light and excellent views from stairwells over the tennis club! The staff are informative and really happy to help. A real plus for Eastbourne!

I am not much of an art buff but for a quiet place to wander around & maybe have a coffee or tea it is just right. They could have more interesting art displays though. Good disabled access.

An interesting visit displaying contemporary art by aspiring artists as well as a general exhibition. Well worth the visit - the building itself is worth the visit on its own. It's very light, airy, designed to please the eye. The cafe is good too, with a balcony with an excellent view if its warm enough to be out there

You just wouldn't expect a go-ahead little gallery like this in a s0-called sleepy place like Eastbourne. Doing its best to get both traditional and up and coming artists featured. It's got lovely views and a fab cafe and and should be supported by everyone that visits!

Lovely light and airy modern building, with a variety of artwork inside including some surprizes, some pieces by very well-known Artists and plenty of local and historical interest too.

It was just before Christmas when I was dragging our reluctant 11 year old round the shops buying last minute Christmas gifts etc. As he is always asking questions about what I do in Eastbourne I thought what better way than to show him. I asked if he wanted to go to Towner and he said what's that? With that I said come on you will see.

We walked in and his excitement was much higher than expected. He loved the building and all the things in the reception area. We ventured through the exhibits and he was loving every minute of it. Now any time we are going to Eastbourne he asks if we can stop by the Towner!

Well worth a visit and you will be amazed just what wonders are waiting for you!

The award winning Towner Gallery has something for everyone. It's a smart interesting building with great views to where Eastbourne's famous tennis tournament is held at Devonshire Park. As well as the visiting internationally acclaimed exhibitions, there are the more permanent displays of various art forms from the locality as well as elsewhere. Even the gift shop is well worth a visit. Apart from its range of interesting art related books, it has a range of fascinating and unusual gift ideas. There's even a decent coffee shop with an outside terrace to enjoy Eastbourne's many hours of sunshine. A good day out for all the family and well worth a visit.

Definitely worth a visit for any Art lovers. It combines the concepts of a fantastic gallery space, connection with the local community and artists alongside world renowned art. The cafe on the top floor is also very good with lovely views over Devonshire Park.

I visited Towner in December, with my young niece and nephew. We attended a 'Christmas Creations' family workshop, and it was truly fantastic, especially as it was free to attend. Amazing value, especially for families on low incomes, such as I.
The gallery itself is easily accessible - with what could be the largest elevator I have ever seen! I am passionate about architecture, so visiting the Towner gallery was a treat because it is a stunning example of exciting architecture.
The cafe is somewhat overpriced, but the coffee is great. There is a lovely gift shop with a range of quirky bits and pieces.
I personally preferred the modern art on the second floor, compared to the stuffy art on the first floor, but there was a film by Tacita Dean which credits the gallery greatly. They have a lovely piece by Grayson Perry too. Staff are welcoming and knowledgable - willing to explain more about the modern art on display.
I found my experience was hindered slightly by the locals being rather vocal about their dislike of modern art. It would have been great if they'd have taken the opportunity to understand the work instead of writing it off straight away.

If you like arechitecture and modern art, I highly recommend it.
