NOT a 5* experience I’m afraid.
The TV in our room broke after a few hours and wasn’t able to be fixed for the duration of our stay.
There was a large rust patch IN the Bath!
Early morning paper never arrived!
Lock on room was faulty and we consequently locked out of our room.
On the positive side the staff were attentive at all times. And the breakfast meals were very tasty.
All in all VERY disappointing and NOT the 5* experience we had hoped for:(

We had a double room which was really lovely and a great ensuite. This is such a great hotel because as well as being so centrally located and within walking distance of most of St Peter Port the staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble for them. Been a while since we have been here due to Covid but will be back again.

The OGH’s reputation as the iconic, go to hotei in St Peter Port meant we arrived in Guernsey with great excitement and even greater expectations. These were exceeded. Being greeted with a glass of Prosecco on arrival got our trip off to a great start. Location is perfect with key attractions in easy walking distance. Food and drink of very high standard - having breakfast Al fresco each day under the expert care of restaurant manager Alessandro gave us particular pleasure. Room very well appointed. But the jewel in the crown is the staff - wonderful, attentive and courteous service in all settings. In summary a great Hotel that we look forward to returning to.

Popped in for drinks as a lack of decent outdoor establishments in St Peter's port (too many were road side). We were staying at the sister hotel D of R.
Friendly service. Good Italian wine. Disappointed in champagne offering.

My friend and I enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea. We sat in the garden and were waited on by a lovely man, Siya, who could not do enough to help us. Everything about the afternoon was lovely. Siya made sure the fizz was topped up and had a laugh with us, whilst still being professional! Thank you!

Our stay was just two nights and we were using our own car. The only issue here is the cad park, it’s chaos but managed well - it’s a tiny space but it seems most places out here, in the Port, suffer with parking. The hotel has you believing it’s ‘old’ England, a very Victorian feel and in places, quirky.

The room we had was OK, it was tired and not well equipped but it was clean and satisfactory especially because the staff here are probably equal to the most helpful and professional we’ve experienced anywhere else, and we travel a lot! You’re made to feel welcome and valued; service is top class.

We always judge a place by deciding if we’d return; we’ll I’m pleased to say we would, gladly.

Excellent 5* hotel
First Class old style service
Staff are a credit to the hotel
Food vert good
Surroundings ideal for what we wanted.
The only downside is the walk up the hill to the hotel from the harbour it is only 500mtrs approx but it is very steep.
That being said the views from our room and patio areas are excellent.
If you want luxury staying here will not disappoint

We spent a week at this hotel in June. On the positive side the hotel is in a great location and the staff are wonderful. On the other hand our room was rather tired - trouser press hanging off the wall, the shower was just a plastic curtain over the bath, and we had to call reception to have mould removed from the tiles. Then we were particularly surprised on check-out to discover a £10/day “service charge” added to our bill. I don’t think we will be returning.

The service at this place is exceptional. Experience it to believe it. They will do everything to make your stay memorable. From never having to touch your luggage, the turn down service with a special treat, the bar and Resteraunt service, the local knowledge, it’s all prompt and very courteous. There are numerous nooks to enjoy a quiet moment, or relax in the heated pool. Rooms are plush and period opulent, maybe a bit over the top?

Spent a long weekend at The Old Government Hotel & Spa with my wife. It was her birthday so we wanted to curate great experience in Guernsey. The hotel choice was a really good one. The hotel itself, the amenities and the staff were terrific.

I'd like to call out Roberto specifically who made sure every part of our stay was a great one. He welcomed us when we arrived, looked after our car and luggage, and always had a smile on his face. He also went above and beyond by surprising my wife with a birthday cake and some sweets. These little things just make such a difference.

Whilst I mentioned Roberto, all of the staff were top-notch always looking to help us out with their friendly manner. There are plenty of places to relax and chill as well as a decent gym/spa area. It is an easy walk down to the port (down hill so keep that in mind on the way back).

Customer service excellent from ALL Team members (Karl, Roberto, Ula, Byron, Ivo, Danis, Mario to name just a few). Made our dog feel super welcome….if we were offered a drink….so was she! Hotel old school chic….very comfortable. Nice well equipped gym and outdoor pool.

A bit of this "legacy hotel" feeling. Very basic rooms for the price. Great location.

We stayed for five nights in a Sea View Superking Room with a balcony for five nights. The OGH is a beautiful period hotel with generous sized rooms( ours had a separate walk-in wardrobe and also a separate walk-in shower in the bathroom. The retractable glass window on the balcony was also a real bonus. They have two restaurants: the Brasserie for both Breakfast and Dinner plus a lovely separate Curry Room. The standard of food in both was excellent, although some of the wines by the glass was fairly pricy, and the standard of service was excellent. There is also the option of eating Al Fresco for breakfast and lunch. A particular excellent feature is the standard of service and the friendliness of the staff throughout the hotel. The OGH sits on a hill above St.Peter Port Harbour with great views and is only a 5- minute walk to the shops and harbour. However bear in mind you are walking uphill on the way back. We felt 5 nights was ideal as it gives ample opportunity to see Guernsey and also visit Herm and/or Sark. Although it is expensive at ca £550/ night B&B it really is worth the money for the really relaxing break the OGH provides.

Sensational hotel with absolutely impeccable service from all the staff, from the Prosecco welcome to the final good bye we were very well looked after. Bed was very comfortable, room was small but perfectly formed, bathroom very pleasant. Breakfast is a mix of continental buffet and made-to-order hot dishes. Well located in the town with a short walk to the shops and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Visited this charming hotel for afternoon tea whilst visiting Guernsey and it was all we could have hope for - and more. Staff from the reception hall to the tea lounge were friendly, helpful and very professional and made us feel welcome for the duration of our visit. We had been planning to visit for some time but covid had prevented us doing so, but the wait was worthwhile. The food was lovely and plentiful - so much so that we took away some cakes and scones in the box that they supplied so we could enjoy them later. Lots of different teas to pick from and a lovely selection of savoury and sweet treats. All in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Parking outside was limited and I had to move the car part way through the afternoon to avoid any problems with the wardens, but that was no real trouble. Overall a delightful visit and one that I am sure we will repeat.

By far the greatest thing about the hotel is the staff, from the initial meet throughout our stay every member of staff we came into contact with were amazingly friendly. All were very smartly dressed and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed in a room with balcony and sea view which was lovely although maybe a little let down by the bathroom which although spotlessly clean could do with some attention. The balcony had a huge window which could be lowered or closed if it turned chilly. The cafetière and fresh ground coffee with the tea tray was a lovely touch. Lovely bedding and comfortable beds. A fabulous week’s stay.

I think that this hotel is in need of an update. Yes it is traditional but its stuck in a timewarp and in need of modernisation. Very dated rooms that lack the amenities you expect from a 5 star hotel. Other traditional hotels do well to marry the history with modern conveniences..this does not. The staff are incredibly attentive and friendly and are one of its assets. The pool area is fabulous, a sunny sheltered sun trap even on cooler days! The bed, one of the best I've slept in! The restaurants again are too dated in decor and food choices...they are aiming towards an older traditional clientele. I woukd definitely return to Guernsey but not the OGH which is a shame.

Very traditional, yet upscale hotel.
I stayed over lunch, enjoying a bar snack.
Good wine and champagne selection, they even have vegan lunch options, which were delicious.
Staff was extremely attentive, the entire place very clean.

Luxurious hotel. Real 5 star. Everything was great, the food, the service, but above all the room. We had the afternoon tea while we were there and it was excellent. We also had a meal in their curry restaurant which we really enjoyed.
Taxis are pretty hard to get on Guernsey. If you’re arriving by ferry, with a light case on wheels, you can walk to the OGH in 10-15 minutes. But you need to get the directions before you leave home as it’s not signposted. Otherwise, ask the hotel to arrange a car for you. There won’t be taxis waiting when you arrive.

The service at the restaurant was amazing. All the servers were so kind and helpful. Our server was Siya. He was excellent. He was so sweet to the three of us. We absolutely loved him and our whole experience at The Brasserie Resturaunt at the Old Government House.
