Stayed here for five nights celebrating a big birthday!
A beautiful hotel, in a great location. The food was excellent, especially the breakfasts. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spotless. Our only criticism is the wardrobe door (with cupboard space and the safe) couldn’t open fully as it opened into the bedside table so made it awkward to use. I would stay again, but a different room, we had Queen room.

Superb customer service, nothing was too much trouble. Best hotel breakfast we have ever had-so much choice and well cooked to order. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and they reserved the table we chose in the Brasserie for dinner. When we returned to our room there was a card, a plate decorated with chocolate, two dipped strawberries and a chocolate brownie, such a lovely gesture. The bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and serviced daily. One slight niggle was the safe which was on the top shelf at the back of the wardrobe and we needed to stand on a chair to access it and the space between bed and wardrobe was hardly wide enough to squeeze the chair in. Perhaps a step stool kept in the wardrobe would be useful, perhaps we should have asked for one. There was a wedding on whilst we were there but there was no disruption or noise disturbance, it is a very quiet hotel. Highly recommended.

A wonderful hotel ! We stayed for 4 nights and it was truly fabulous! Hotel itself is gorgeous - the bed was so comfy - amazing pillows! Luxury linens and towels. Food was fab. I loved the breakfasts. Lots of delicious fresh fruits - you can go healthy or have full English. Lots of choices for different cooked breakfasts etc. afternoon tea was super too. The staff are soo lovely. Every one of them were just so friendly and helpful. If you are lucky enough to get the coconut ice as part of the turn down service - you will want more ! The best I’ve ever had! Thank you to the staff for an amazing break !

An amazing four day stay, the hotel is truly beautiful. Our room was spacious and extremely comfortable, with a fabulous huge bed and high quality linen.
However the best thing about this hotel is the staff, such lovely people, absolutely nothing is too much trouble, they all made our stay very special, special thanks to Steve (concierge) for going above and beyond. We can’t wait to return and are planning a trip back as soon as we possibly can .

Afternoon tea at the OGH was amazing. A special treat not to be missed on any trip to Guernsey.

This is an established grand hotel with historic flair. However, be warned that it is not a five star hotel by any reasonable international standard. The rooms, restaurant and common areas in particular are in desperate need of some refurbishment and modernisation. The pricetag is mainly warranted by the fact that there is little competition on the island. That being said, the staff were all outstandingly helpful and polite, and the overall experience we had was a pleasant one.

We really enjoyed our stay at the OGH.
What made it for us was the brilliant staff who couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, particularly as we spring a request for a small wedding on them, all very last minute. However, it all went very smoothly and our thanks go to two of the managemnt team Karl and Olivia, who we 'borrowed' as witnesses.
Following our marriage, our afternoon tea was also very pleasant.
The hotel is perhaps a little old school in its vibe and decor, which may not be to everyones taste. We did have a minor issue with our room, but that was quickly and efficiently resolved.
We look forward to returning for a future anniversary.

We had a lovely reception on arrival and during our stay Alessandro and Tsya were exceptionally attentive. The food was delicious. The bedroom overlooked a noisy air vent, lacked a fridge, shower cap , poor very small out of date shower with no hand rail and very little room to negotiate the wardrobe without knocking your feet!

This centrally placed hotel is perfect for getting out and about in Guernsey. Whether it be a stroll round St Peter Port, catching the boat to the outlying islands or the bus station.
Special mention must be made to Jaro, the concierge, who is more than happy to plan the day for you, organise and book your tickets for boat trips and generally helping to make your stay perfect. We would also like to mention Phil on reception and her waiter husband from Durban, waiter Ivo from Bulgaria, Head waiters Alesandro from Sardinia, and Tony.

Spent four nights at OGH and loved it. We were one of three couples who got the same minibus from the airport and so were checking in at the same time. The duty manager - who was fabulous throughout our stay - saw us waiting to check in and brought us each a glass of prosecco. We arrived at lunch time and our room wasn't quite ready, and we went to grab some lunch whilst we waited. That quickly became a three course lunch, which was delicious. As well as the impressive a la carte menu, the "winter warmer" menu was great, and meant a very reasonably priced and delicious two or three courses.

Breakfast was a real highlight of the hotel, with choices from a range of cooked options in addition to a continental selection. The pastries were just wonderful.

The room was spacious and comfortable and the bed was huge. The bathroom was also a good size, with a good shower and a separate, good sized bath.

It felt like nothing was too much effort for us, and all the staff seemed to know and remember our names, and asked about our stay. We checked out booking a hire car online, meantioned in passing to the duty manager that we were going to head to the airport to pick up a hire car, and in a couple of minutes he arranged for a car from the same company to be brought to the hotel and to be picked up afterwards, that cost less than what we could see online, and was there for us in uner an hour. There were lots of little incidents like that which made the whole stay feel special.

Worth noting that the on site spa is run separately to the hotel. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try the spa, we tried to book a few times and the spa team weren't available when we tried to book, and when we eventually managed to find them, there was no availability left, so we had to miss out on the spa facilities.

There are a few comments on here about the service, but we found it excellent throughout. Things moved at the speed you might expect in Guernsey, and the service was friendly over formal. It was felt absolutely perfect for us and we really enjoyed it. There were plenty of guests at the hotel who were there for business, but for us, who were relaxing and on holiday, the pace of life in hotel was exactly what we wanted.

I would have no hesitation in going back to OGH and staying there again, and in fact, would positively plan to go back to Guernsey to stay in the hotel, we enjoyed it so much.

I was going to mention a couple of members of staff who were particuarly helpful, but it would be like a roll call of everyone who was working there. We felt like we knew several of them personally by the time we left, through very friendly and natural conversation. The team there made such a positive difference to what was already a great stay.

Best hotel I've stayed in for ages.

The ambience of the hotel may be 5 star but unfortunately it is let down by service standards. We tried to check in on a Saturday afternoon and there was only one receptionist on duty and she seemed engaged in selling vouchers to a non-resident. We had to wait some 20 mins which was a poor start, although to be fair we were offered a glass of bubbly.
However, the worse point was the room housekeeping service. We had to telephone the "service", contact reception, or catch the women, every day of our 4 night visit. First, they took linen away and did not replace them - we had hand towels, face cloths missing, the service tray [biscuits, milk sachets etc] was often not topped up. The worst experience was the penultimate day when our room had not been serviced by 4pm despite asking reception for it to be carried out at 2pm. I found the staff along the corridor and they came. One did the bathroom, collected used linen and left, whilst the other did the beds. Just as she was leaving I found no hand towels or face cloths, nor ANY toilet paper had been left. This was corrected. In the evening as we returned just after turn-down, we found the used [once] facecloths had gone and not been replaced. The maid said they had no spares left - why then remove the wet ones which we had only received four hours earlier. I asked her to search & return with missing items which she did eventually do.
Sorry, this a ramble but really not the service to be offered in a 5 star establishment. The management have much to do here in training.

Firstly amazing Paul thank you, made such a good impression from day one to day my check out, bar, restaurant did it all, even when others around him where struggling, he kept them up and going showed some wonderful leadership qualities. Secondly the food was amazing loved the chef winter menu great idea, the Crab lush, and King prawns wow!!! Room was as nice as you’d expect, the hotel just walking distance from the town centre another plus, only down side is Sunday and Monday night in Guernsey other restaurants are closed didn’t take part in afternoon tea at the OGH but it looked very busy and very popular. As I mentioned the staff are very good just that Paul did go that extra mile with time and with orders looking forward to coming back soon

From the moment we arrived (cheeky glass of Prosecco!) till we left, nothing was too much for the staff at this great hotel. The building is so central, the rooms are exceptional and the breakfasts are amazing. Like all service industries, hotels live or die with their staff, the the employees of OGH are some of the friendliest and professional I have encountered. Special kudos to Ula and Roberto at front of house and Carlos and his team for indulging our bears (long story). Best hotel by far in Guernsey.

The OGH is a nice hotel. But we stayed in a King room with a view of the harbour, and it was £470 a night. That's almost as much as the infinitely better Ritz in London. Absurd, in other words.

Service is ok, but not remotely 5 star. We sat forever waiting for service in the bar, and when I went to the bar out of frustration...the bartender told me to wait at the table for "service"...which of course never came.

The food menu is, frankly, boring...and not remotely up to what is presented as the Channel Island's only 5 star hotel.

Rooms are fine, and bedding is first rate.

I guess my problem is that the product is pretty good, but they charge you as much as you should be paying if the product were exceptional. And it simply is NOT exceptional.

I'd probably opt for the St. Pierre Park, which costs about half as much, and is really just about as good....and has the advantage of lovely grounds and gardens. It's no palace, but then, neither is the OGH.

FAB! FAB! FAB!
We have been fortunate enough to travel to every Continent in the world and have experienced many types of hotel accommodation, staff and locations....and, here in Guernsey, the OGH has to rate among the best of the best!

We were actually a day late arriving at OGH as, due to "inclement weather" we couldn't sail from Jersey (our Christmas away from home venue) to Guernsey the evening before....
Our weary travel-worn selves were very warmly greeted by Jack at reception....and he pointed us in the direction of the (rather difficult to negotiate) car park and sent Stewart (Concierge?) around to help us in with our (endless!) luggage...

We had, early for us (7.30am), a pleasant breakfast in the hotel and then crashed out for a couple of (much needed!) hours catch-up sleep....

We enjoyed a beautifully appointed room with a sea view....
We noticed that, if requested, a mini fridge could be bought to the room...and, pretty much, only 5 minutes after our request, the very obliging Stewart had lugged one up for us...what a star!

The hotel is literally only a few minutes down the hill to the main shopping/restaurant etc area....
This was a very pleasant surprise as the hotel feels "at a distance" from the rest of the world!...only a good thing!!

All the staff were a joy to meet (Jack and reception staff in particular) and nothing appeared to be too much trouble for this friendly, professional team

We were fortunate enough to meet the General Manager (Andrew) who is charm personified ....
I mention this as I/we believe it was Andrew who sanctioned our request for a late check out....but then went that step beyond...
We were not due to sail back to the UK until 22.25 hrs that evening....and we were permitted to stay "until we needed to leave"...ie. approx 21.00 hrs!...that's some "late check out, eh? (at no extra cost btw!)
AND....before we left, reception called up tp ask if we would like a "food parcel" to take with us for our journey home to the UK!....how kind, how thoughtful...we accepted, of course....
Roberto (lovely , charming man from Sicily) bought it out to our car as we were leaving the hotel... it was absolutely delicious and most welcome!

Whilst this latter part of the review is not necessarily about the hotel I have written it to use as an example of the way the management and staff really do care about and value their guests!

If I lived in Guernsey this would become my second home....as I don't live in Guernsey I/we just dream to return!

Well done one and all!
FIVE STARS without hesitation!
