This is a great hotel, well located with service to match. Unforseen issues arose during our stay but the staff were tremendous. It is a good test to see how hotels act under difficult circumstances but OGH came out with flying colours.Professional and friendly staff with excellent food.

Clearly expectations of a 5-star hotel will be high, and an outstanding aspect of the OGH was the excellent staff and service - always willing to help, so it's worth asking! The hotel is in a great location near the High Street and harbour and is an interesting older building (although this does cause some constraints). Generally the public areas and dining options are excellent. The bedroom was a good size and reasonably if not spectacularly furnished. The ensuite bathroom was dated and badly needed upgrading. The hotel is offering a three nights for two option until the end of the year which significantly helps the value. Greatly enjoyed our stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights for the start of our honey moon as we got married in Guernsey. We arrived late and the staff were great, our bed had a heart and love written in rose petals. The room was not massive but was spacious, the hotel had left a bottle of champagne in the room for our arrival, the staff are incredibly helpful and will offer to do anything for you. Although the OGH is expensive you really do get what you pay for. If you can afford it just stay for a night!

We stayed at the OGH for the first time, for a week in September; and we simply cannot recommend it highly enough for an extremely comfortable, welcoming and enjoyable place to stay.

Well-located at the top of a fairly steep but short hill, the hotel is a five-minute stroll down to the picturesque St Peter Port harbour. From the moment we arrived, the staff were all helpful and the service was of a very high standard throughout. If anything needed to be changed, according to personal taste, a phone-call was all that was needed; and nothing was too much trouble.

Our room, a superior twin, was lovely and very well-appointed, with a balcony and a beautiful view of the harbour and Castel Cornet beyond. And the weather was good enough to enjoy a cup of tea on the balcony a few times! The room was very comfortable indeed, and really well-thought out in terms of it's design.

The public areas of the hotel were also places that were enjoyable to spend some time in; we ate in the Brasserie several times, going back after our first meal there precisely because the atmosphere was conducive to a relaxing evening as well as excellent food and great service (I want to name-check Christof here, who was entirely charming and welcoming each time he served us at dinner; and Kasey and Fiona).

Of course, great service in a 5 star hotel is to be expected, and to some extent taken for granted, when things are going well. It was when my mother became unwell on our final afternoon/evening that I thanked our lucky stars that we had decided to stay at the OGH. The organisational excellence swung into action, providing us with whatever we needed, including calling in a doctor. And the staff and manager's continued interest in my mother's well-being the following day, the day of our departure, was both helpful and kind. We appreciated it enormously, and continue to do so.

So, if you're looking for a bit of luxury, extremely comfortable surroundings and excellent service, the OGH is the place to stay in Guernsey. We will definitely be returning; and I'm not at all surprised to see from other reviews that many guests are repeat visitors.

This is a really great hotel. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful whilst not being overburdoning. It is beautifully decorated and furnished with plenty of public areas in which to relax and the food was just excellent.

The hotel is very central situated right in the middle of St Peter Port but is at the same time quiet.

We did not not have transport but the hotel was ideally situated for wandering into the old town and close to both the harbour for visiting the islands and for the bus station with frequent services arround Guernsey.

This was the fourth time we have stayed at 'OGH'. Wouldn't go back if we didn't really like it. The accommodation is splendid, the staff efficient, friendly and give the impression their intention is that guests have the best and enjoy their stay. Their afternoon tea is wonderful.

We felt that we were going back in time at least a century when we checked into to this very British feeling place but the traditional decor was complemented by modern convenience and friendly service. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and found the English Channel mix of English and French influences on the cuisine to be a pleasure. This was also a good base for long walks through St. Peter Port.

My wife and I recently stayed here for 5 nights. It was an unforgettable experience made all the more enjoyable by the staff and I do mean ALL the staff. They were polite, friendly and, above all, very profesional. They couldn't do enough for us. Everytime we passed a member of staff we recieved a friendly greeting. They all seem to have this fantastic ability to remember your name.

We had a comfortable room with balcony and sea view although, as a superior room it could hve been bigger. However, it had all the nice little touches you woud expect from a top class 5 star hotel.

The food in both the Brasserie restaurant and the Governor's room was great. The Governor's now serves only Indian cuisine which is very very good. This is a new innovation which, in my view, should continue.

Anyone going to St Peter Port should certainly consider staying here. We certainly will be doing so if or when we return to Guernsey.

We stayed at the OGH Hotel for 3 nights to celebrate our birthdays in early September. What an enjoyable experience it was, Quality Hotel with superb food and friendly and attentive staff well worth its 5 star rating. Our room had wonderful views across the harbour to Sark and Herm and it was just a short stroll into the town and to the harbour. If you are looking for something a little different with style and very high standards I would recommend the Old Government House Hotel.

we spent our honeymoon here in August, the staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. On our first evening we were treated to an extra special turndown service as it was our honeymoon, the hotel gave us champagne and chocolate coated strawberries and there were rose petals sprinkled in a heart shape on the bed, also a hand written card welcoming us and wishing us a nice holiday. The room we booked was a superior king room and we were lucky enough to have a balcony. We couldn't have asked for anything more and when we got home we even received a handwritten postcard welcoming us home. Attention to detail is wonderful with beautiful cashmere throws in the room, lovely robes and scented candles plus a fantastic tea selection and plenty of coffee and milk. All requests were fulfilled really quickly, including last minute bike hire. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the hotel.

We stayed for a weekend beginning September on a business trip in Guernsey. The staff were super friendly and very efficient. The room was cozy, albeit a bit on the small side, and beautifully appointed. We loved the afternoon tea in the drawing room/ lounge. Your internet is free and can be accessed via your wide-screen TV - bonus!

Draw-backs: Although our bathroom was spacious, it was disappointing to have to climb into a bathtub to have a shower. I would rather they replace the bathtub with a walk in shower. We did not have a room with a view, and the bit of view we did have, overlooked the next door neighbor's room and part of the building's roof. The food in the acclaimed Indian restaurant was fair and nothing to rave about. As most shops and restaurants are closed for business on Sundays, one has to rely on dining in the hotel.

In spite of the negatives, the "old world charm" was very appealing and added to the lovely ambiance of the hotel. Requests to the front desk were expedited in a timely and very efficient manner. Added to the mix, is the fact that The OGH Hotel is walking distance to the centre of town and amenities, where you can find many great restaurants and shops. The hotel also has a relaxation spa well worth paying a visit to. The gym is one of the best appointed hotel gyms I have yet seen, very well equipped, boasting sauna, steam room and spa pool.

All in all a very good experience.

We had a weekend here in June and it was great. We went to a wedding on the Island and this was the perfect location, with excellent service and wonderful food. We had a glorious sea view with the added bonus of being able to walk into the town centre. Close the ferry too.

We stayed at Old Government House for one night in room 136. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was nice but the room was very very small, and the window overlooked a small terrace area surrounded by windows looking straight into the bedroom. The bed faced the window so we had to keep the heavy curtains closed the whole time we were getting ready so other guests couldn't see us, which wasn't great, especially for doing makeup.

We had booked the room through lastminute.com and were only there for one night to attend a wedding, so we accepted that we were in one of the hotel's poorer rooms and didn't ask to change but if we had paid full price I wouldn't have been very happy. The window really could have done with a net curtain to allow daylight in whilst preventing others looking in. Also they could do with taking some of the rubbish off the tables to allow guests somewhere to put their own items; we ended up shoving everything on to a corner on one table so we had somewhere to get ready.

We went for a drink before leaving for the weather but due to the dismal weather we couldn't sit outside and the small bar was packed. We tried to take our drinks up to the lounge area but all of the tables had reserved signs on for the afternoon tea. Another set of guests advised us that we could sit down for a little while to drink our drinks but we felt so uncomfortable sat at the rickety table with waiters rushing back and forth that we took our drinks and sat on a couple of chairs in the draughty corridor. It's a shame there wasn't somewhere more appealing to sit and enjoy the drinks, even reception doesn't really have anywhere decent which most hotel receptions do.

On the positives the hotel was clean, it was nice to have bathrobes and slippers in the rooms, the staff were very friendly and it was lovely having a turn down service in the evening with a chocolate on the pillow and a sachet of a spa goody each.

If you enjoy great service, high standards of cleanliness and comfort and friendly staff who are always there to answer your call, then location is the only other choice to make and perfectly situated in the heart of St Peter Port on the beautiful island of Guernsey, you've got it made!

As it was my wife's birthday I arranged for a 2 day stay at the OGH over the weekend of 10th of August.

The hotel is in a lovely spot and the views from the back garden, over St Peter Port are extreemly scenic, however given that it is a 4 start hotel I would have to comment on the following.

The service we received while trying to order a lunch time snack in the garden was not great - 15 minutes to be served and it was not busy. We did have issues with the bill in that we ordered items from the bar, which showed a different price from the one we were charged. When queried the price was amended again.

There was no seperate shower, just part of the bath and while not a problem, thought it was odd.

The Spa treatment was well worth the money and I would suggest that a visit to the Spa be high on your list.

All in all a good stay, with one or two slips

There is not much more to add .... our third visit in as many years to celebrate our anniversary (with our fourth already booked) - the Hotel, Staff and Service is, in our view....Faultless. Whilst it may seem unfair to single people out....we must acknowledge both Sam and Ken for "going the extra mile". You all deserve the accolades you quite rightly get and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Once again, our yearly break in Guernsey comes to an end.

Over the past 10 years or so we have seen many changes in Guernsey, some not always for the better.

But, the OGH has remained constant throughout, the location, the friendly staff, the attention to detail are always spot on, if anything perhaps improving year on year.

We look forward to returning again next year.

We are quite discerning travelers so were most pleasantly surprised at the quality of this hotel and the professionalism of the staff! Of course, we know the Oyster Box and 12 Apostles in South Africa well and have been fortunate to experience these and other properties around the World. And the OGH was superb. The food, the ambiance, the comfort and the staff. Unfortunately not the view over the buildings in front, which does detract from the experience…. but cannot be helped.

If we had to single out a particular member of staff, there would be two, Elena at Front Desk and Louis who carried our very heavy bags to and from our bedroom with pleasure and a smile on his face!

We will certainly be staying at this hotel again and recommending the OGH to our clients and colleagues.

Living in Guernsey, I pass through the OGH often enough but have never stayed there before (seeing as I have my own house and everything). A 10th wedding anniversary had to be celebrated in style, however, so we packed our bags & drove to town.

If you're going to do it, do it in style; we checked in to The Herm Suite and wow, what a room. From the exquisite furnishings to the small detail like decent bathroom products (all L'Occitane) it was as good as I had hoped it would be.

So to dinner in the Governor's restaurant. The decor might be a bit over-done, but the food certainly wasn't. Different wine for each course made for light conversation and a lighter head.

Overall an excellent experience, so thanks to Andrew and his team. It's really so hard to pick out individuals, but Tomasz, Ken and (the legend that is) Harry are just three examples of the typical front of house team that make this place the success it deserves to be.

As promised I returned to the OGH for the Town Carnival. I booked a table for the "Caribbean Evening" with Tropikal Vizions Steel Band. I have known the musicians for some years and therefore I would like to thank the management and all the people responsible for letting them entertain again.
I invited my Guernsey friends to join in. It was a great evening with Caribbean specialities. We liked the barbecue, the salad bar and the tropical dessert.
Once again I had a great time at the OGH. Everyone welcomed me back some of the staff even remembered my name. I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. I really felt it was "my home away from home"
This time I had a larger room (King room) and it was well worth it. There was plenty of space I even had separate TV room. This was amazing.
Breakfast was great as there was a lot to choose from. I had lunch and dinner at "The Brasserie" and the food was just perfect. I also liked the plate of sandwiches which I ate "al fresco" in the "Olive Grove".
I will certainly return for the next Town Carnival or if possible earlier for another event or just to relax at the Spa.

Celebrated my husband's birthday at OGH by staying overnight on romantic break. Beautiful sea-view room, delicious food at their fine dining. And my husband enjoyed his SPA treatments. :)
Thank you to one and all!

We were meant to spend one night at OGH - we arrived on the ferry (from hell) and walked to the OGH (because we needed the fresh air after the worse crossing on a ferry I have ever experienced - witnessing the use of the little white bags by more people than I care to count). We received a warm welcome and was offered a cool drink as we waited for our husbands to check-in, nice touch! The room was not sea facing, but was lovely -- good size bathroom (room to put our toiletries, very spacious), great king size bed, and plenty of room. We ate in the restaurant, which was great -- the wine, food, service .... all perfect!
The only thing missing was a full length mirror in the room and an outlet for my hair dryer under the mirror ;(
We had a fabulous breakfast, checked-out with no worries and the hotel held our luggage as we toured Guernsey for the day -- the concierge arranged a great tour as well.
As the day went on, after checking the sea state - Force 8 on the Channel would lead to another ferry ride from hell (no thank you) - a call to the OGH for another night. The hotel staff had our bags back in the room by the time we returned, different rooms tho. The room we stayed the second night (for the same price as the first night) was a SHOEBOX! Lovely, but small -- if they took some of the furniture out it would feel better. Why they felt we needed a desk that big in a room that small is beyond me, and they stuck it in the entrance way - why? There was no place to put our toiletry bags in the bathroom either. Across the hall our friends' room was almost twice the size for the same price.
Will definitely stay again tho! Oh, we flew back to Southampton on FlyBe - no more ferries, unless of course one takes a Dramamine, we all had thankfully!

This was our first visit to Guernsey and Lewis (the young Damien Lewis look-alike Concierge) made our stay at the OGH really special. Whatever we wanted or needed help with he organised with a very pleasant manner. But in fact all the staff were friendly and helpful. The room we were first allocated was small but had a lovely view of the sea. However the TV wasn't able to receive ITV 4 and as my husband is a Tour de France fan it was imperative that he could watch it whilst I was in the gym and spa. They moved us to a much larger room at no extra charge where all TV channels were available. The breakfasts were amazing with so much choice - even boiled eggs with marmite soldiers! The fresh fish every evening was first class but there were other choices for non fish eaters. A very busy hotel but the staff were well trained in treating each guest as individuals. Gym and spa were top notch and so was the attention to detail in all aspects of the hotel. We can't wait to visit again

Just got back from a fantastic weekend in Guernsey and there is no question that this is THE place to stay. Great service, brilliant breakfasts. BUT one thing didn't work for me. When I arrived the receptionist says to me, "We have a Sea view room available" great I'm thinking until I am told that will set me back an extra £90 per night. When I get to my classic room it is a shoebox with no view that feels really tight. Didn't sleep well at all because I felt so crammed in. The room set me back £170 per night. Pool was great, drinks well made, seriously everything was perfect except for that, the staff especially were excellent.
