Many thanks to all at the OGH who made our recent stay with them one to remember. We have just returned from a few days away with some friends to celebrate two birthdays and all of us agreed that, although the bedrooms were a little small, the staff were brilliant and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. What made the stay even more special was the delivery of cards and cakes on the appropriate days. Most unexpected but very thoughtful. The public rooms are well appointed and very comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious with a large selection available. We will definitely return to the OGH when we next visit to Guernsey.

Huge thanks to all at the OGH for making a visit to celebrate two birthdays - that of my husband and his best friend which are a day apart - so special. The service at the hotel is clearly exemplary as a matter of course but it was ramped up even further for the birthday boys with the delivery of two lovely cakes and cards on the requisite days. A lovely touch which was much appreciated by us all. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough - the public rooms are lovely, our bedrooms were small but perfectly formed and the breakfasts were wonderful. The very special icing on the cake however, and the reason for our excellent rating, is the staff. Everyone we came into contact with was warm, friendly and could not have done more for us. Special mention must go to PJ for looking after us so well and Dominika on reception who started our visit so well with a lovely tour and huge smile. Make a point of visiting the Spa as well. My massage from Anneka was one of the nicest I've ever had and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon sheltering from the rain by enjoying all the facilities. All in all, a great break and we will definitely be back next time we come to the island.

We stayed for 4 nights (should have been 6 but flights cancelled due to snow) at the Old Government House Hotel. Had a lovely room with a sea view over St Peter Port to see Herm and Sark in the distance. The staff were excellent, they couldn't do enough for us. We ate one lovely evening meal in the Brasserie and also one in the Governors Restaurant, which server Indian food. Both meals were really good and the service again was excellent.

Breakfast is great in the Brasserie with views out over St Peter Port. The food was well prepared and promptly served.

We also had some treatments in the Spa that is well designed beneath the hotel. There is a good sized gym but only an outdoor pool that is not open this time of year. There are two jacuzzi's and both sauna and steam rooms.

It is only a short walk down hill to get to the town centre where ther are many restaurants. We had a great meal at Le Nautique Restaurant (down the steps next to Boots then turn right), as recommended by someone in the hotel. This had great food and a view out over the harbour.

Luckily we had really good weather for March but the hotel does keep a stock of umbrellas that you can borrow if walking into town.

Overall a really great hotel, probably one of the best in St Peter Port.

We actually had booked a Classic room which we found to be too small as the only space to walk in the room was around the 3 sides of a very big high bed with 3-4 feet of space. The bed was too big for that room. The room did not have a safe nor a mini fridge. I thought it was overrated to call it a Classic room and it felt very claustophobic. I asked if we could have a bigger room. The reception immediately gave us a complimentary upgrade and the new room was very comfortable. The staff are extremely helpful, very accomodating, we were treated very well and they made sure we were happy staying there. The food in the Brasserie was delicious. I don't usually eat at Indian restaurants (as I am good at cooking Indian food myself) but I have to say the food in the Curry Room was one of the BEST Indian food that we have had. We will definitely stay there again and hopefully book a slightly spacious room. Everyone working there had big smiles and were very attentive.

We had two rooms with an adjoining hall as we took two children. It was all very safe and the children felt really comfortable. The rooms were lovely. The staff could not have been more helpful with making the children and us feel very welcome. They provided a DVD player and DVDS so the children could watch films in the room. My husband arranged a few surprises over the weekend for my birthday and the staff were fantastic at not only keeping the secrets but also making me feel very special, thank you to all of them.

My husband and I visited the OGH Hotel in February for a Valentine's treat. And what a treat it was. Our room was beautifully furnished, immaculate and had a stunning sea view. The service was fabulous and our stay was managed seamlessly from arrival to departure. We dined at the Brassserie one evening and had a really top notch meal. I'll confess to having enjoyed a few cocktails at the bar too, and no matter how hard I tried to find a bad one, could not find fault there either! We booked Spa treatments and thought these were excellent. I can truly say that this is one of the very best hotels that I've had the pleasure of visiting. For a short break, Guernsey is a really great place to escape, though do expect to pile on a few pounds because there so many great places to eat (and drink)!

Top rate staff, beautiful decor, great food and a superb location. I will be back...

We stayed for three nights (Friday-Monday) and had a fantastic break at this hotel; I went with my family to celebrate 3 of our birthdays (mine, my mum’s and my dad’s). My parents had last visited The OGH 25 years ago and they noticed significant changes. We loved our rooms which were very comfortable and I thought that they had been decorated with great attention to detail. I think mine was the nicest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in; other hotel rooms seem a bit bland in comparison now! I really enjoyed using the hotel spa, I found it very relaxing. I thought the service was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and all of the staff seemed to know that my sister was flying in on the Saturday as a surprise for my parent’s birthdays. They were very well informed and kept my secret so as not to spoil the surprise! They also make the best cocktail I have ever had which is a Raspberry Cosmopolitan and one I would highly recommend tasting! My parents were delighted by their experience of our trip and my mum said that our stay “couldn’t have gone any better”. I would luv to stay there again and I hope I get the opportunity to do so in the future.

Second visit to OGH, the attention to detail is brilliant, lots of little special touches, friendly helpful staff, excellent service and very comfortable accommodation. Both restaurants offer a very high standard of cuisine, excellent breakfast menu hot and cold dishes spoilt for choice. If wanting spa treatments I would book before hand to get time slots required. Would definitely highly recommend.

This was our third stay at OGH, after our honeymoon and a previous Christmas. We hope to be back again for another Christmas soon!

From the moment of arrival, OGH staff ensured we were looked after. We stayed for five nights with a sea view (great despite awful weather) and balcony and ate every dinner at the hotel (we don't manage lunch after the fantastic breakfasts), either in the Brasserie or The Curry Room at Governors and were delighted with each meal.

The gym is well-equipped with friendly staff, we rarely saw other guests or members in the spa/sauna area and had lovely massages.

The one issue we had was very quickly resolved with the General Manager who couldn't have been more helpful.

OGH is expensive (to us at least!) but very good value for money for a special treat. I hope it's not too long before we're back again.

The first time we have visited Guernsey and the first time we have stayed at OGH. The Hotel is fantastic - and we have stayed at a number of five star places across Europe and the UK.

From collecting us at the airport to taking us back at the end of three glorious days -the staff at OGH where superb.

It's a great hotel -no two rooms are alike - but the cleanliness and facilities are consistently excellent. I have never known such a friendly and attentive bunch of staff -they seem to be able to read your mind and before you have even asked for something -its ready! If you are wanting a peaceful, luxurious break , fed good food , chill out in a spa -this is the place. We wanted to take the beds home-we are going back in the summer .-

A special weekend in a superb hotel.

Do try the Indian Restaurant located in the hotel. And let the chef choose wines to complement your meal ...... you won't be disappointed !

The rooms were comfortable, and while we had problems with the signal for the TV, the hotel management and staff could not be more attentive.

This was our first visit to this hotel and I am sure it will not be our last.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and have spent the last three Christmases here and have never been disappointed. The hotel is cosy and comfortable and the service is exceptional. Without exception the staff were friendly and helpful making our stay just perfect. We were made to feel most welcome by Harry-what a lovely man!
The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in and the food was superb. We can't wait for our next visit.

This hotel is exceptional - because of its age and history, the layout is a bit higgledypiggledy - getting to my room was an adventure. The room was spacious, spotless and cosily warm without being suffocating - the windows can be opened, which is unusual these days, but it was a bitterly cold night so I didn't bother. I laughed when I saw the room was equipped with not one, not two, but three enormous fitted wardrobes. The bedding was super - a huge bed and lovely sheets. I loved the bathroom and the l'Occitaine toiletries. My only teensy irritation was that the shower cubicle was a little small, but hey, I wouldn't complain about it. I had to leave early for a 7.00 am flight and didn't expect breakfast because that service doesn't start until 7.00 am, but they had thoughtfully prepared an urn of coffee and a tray of pastries for early bird departures. We had a super meal in the bar - menu a bit limited and pricey, as were the drinks. The staff were without exception attentive, efficient and friendly. I can't wait to go back.

We have just completed a short break in Guernsey staying at the Old Government House and cannot praise the quality of the service highly enough, without exception, each and every one of the staff was helpful and friendly, going out of their way to improve our stay in innumerable ways.

We ate in both the Brasserie and the Curry room - the food and wine were very good; breakfast was superb.

I don't know when I will be next back in Guernsey, but I do know where I will be staying when I do.

If you like high tea, then I would recommend the high tea at OGH, excellent sevice, we had the delux high tea, glass of champagne, selection of brown and white bread sandwiches, selection of cakes and scones with jam and cream, there was a choice of teas, or coffee my sister had orange juice she does not drink tea or coffee, no problem, the chocolate brownie was the best I've ever eaten, If you can't eat it all they put it in a small box so you can eat later on, I will be returning on my next visit to Guernsey for another tea will take my husband with me,

Very comfortable room, very attentive staff who were also very good natured so more relaxed than many similar hotels. Price reflects aspirations so reasonable value rather than particularly good value. A big improvement on my stay in 2007. You will feel cossetted.

We stayed at the hotel for one night for our wedding anniversary and the staff could not have done more to make it a special occasion. They upgraded our room, gave us a handwritten card, champagne and chocolates and the bed was decorated with rose petals. The room was beautiful and comfortable and the staff extremely courteous.

My wife and i have stayed here on two seperate occassions one was some 10 years ago which was absolutley fabulous fantastic room overlooking main street towards the port food was first class and plentiful staff were dressed in old colonial attire and were extremely polite and curtious and very helpful. We returned again approx 2 years ago to find although ownership had changed hands they still maintained their very high degree of excellence we are planning to return for another short stay in April 2013 and cant wait we would have no problem in recomending this Grand Hotel for a long or short stay

I celebrated my 50th Birthday at this delightful hotel in Oct 2012. I had stayed many years ago as a child with my parents. Still my favourite hotel of the World. The staff were superb, food exquisite and so tasty, how food used to taste! The OGH is a 'one off', I can't wait to go back.

On arrival at the hotel, you are greeted by very welcoming staff, given a guided tour before being shown to your room which was excellent. Staff extremely helpful, pilot and friendly. Had an excellent weekend will definitely stay there again.

Believe this is one of those old, great hotels that allow you to experience a feel of the past in gentle ideal surroundings.
On arriving we were greeted by a smiling and efficient receptionist and porter and prior to being shown to the room were given a complete tour of the hotel and it's amenities. Try and get that in most modrn hotels!
Our room was absolutely delightful with a great view over the the port with the castle in the background and which looked so good at night when lit up.
Following drinks in the cosy bar we dined one night at the hotel and could not fault the excellent service and quality of food.
Great service, staff and surroundings and we cannot wait to return.

I use the OGH for seminars and some entetrtaining and during tthe past 3 years or so has had a major overhaul and you do get the feeling that the hotel is upping its game..............but I have had more than several poor experiences with the fornt desk, usually with staff that dont have a good coomand of the english language. Very annoying when they cant understand basic phrases like, "Can you tell when I can get into the function room, how do you switch on the lights?" Haughty is a good word for some of the receptionsist too. The team that help with seminars and functions cant be faulted and the food is both good value and very nice.....but, another but the equipment: screens, projection, audio is very poor. If you have ambitions to be a 5 star hotel with conference facilities then dont spoil the ship for a h'aporth of equipment!
People expect more than rickety old projectors (which you have to pay for) front screen projection and small screens. Plasma? Blue tooth technology?, Effective sound systems?, range of screems should be standard and its not.

Hotel generally very good, conference facilities and reception not so good

You will be met by a wonderful ambiance, great corners to relax and call home while in Guernsey. The rooms are a tad small but expected. Bad timing on our part as they just experienced major water damage to the main hall in addition to a total hot water outage for half of our stay. So - even 5 star accommodations cannot always guarantee the basic amenities found at much less expensive hotels. The staff went out of their way to make this a 5 star experience. The Gala Queenston dinner was also exceptionally catered, served and presented. The bar will remain open as late as one wishes. 5 minutes from the high street. Valet parking - just stop in front and enter for check-in. The car will disappear and return upon demand. An exceptional fitness area - near to the best you will find anywhere. Wireless internet service not compatible with Firefox which was kind of strange. A breakfast of Kings and Queens. Down rated due to the long-term hot water failure.
