The Lichfield cathedral is a beautiful site to see, the architecture is amazing and the history behind it is fascinating too.
The grounds and surrounding buildings are well maintained and on sunny day beautiful to just sit and admire the cathedral, guided tours are available of the cathedral and still performs services which I think think is good as it is a cathedral and place of worship.
There are also parks close by which themselves are well maintained having beautifully arranged flower beds and water features as well as a few cafes and plenty of benches a nice place to have picnic, it is very close to the town centre were you can shop and dine at the wide variety of restaurants and quaint cafes.
It is well worth having a look at and very interesting to learn the history behind it definitely would go see again as everything is close by and lots to do!

Lichfield Cathedral is one of the most beautiful cathedrals in England. Located in the Midlands, it has three magnificent spires which can be seen from where ever you are in the city. The interior is vast. Beautiful stain glass windows stream light down upon the huge ornate alter. Hundreds of statues adorn the outside walls. The cathedral casts its huge shadow over Minster pool creating a beauty spot to rival any in the country. Lichfield is steeped in history. The English Civil War was played out both in and around the cathedral with both Parliamentarians and Royalists holding siege there during the fighting. The Cathedral was badly damaged in one of the sieges. The Staffordshire Horde (the biggest medieval treasure to found) was discovered just a few miles from Lichfield and a replica is held at the cathedral.

What a lovely place to go and visit even if you aren't religious its a place to see. Its in a lovely little market town and its free to go into you just need to give a donation. The cathedral its self has beautiful stain glass windows and by looking around you can feel the history, i used to go to visit the cathedral with my school and its just the same now as it was back then.

I love visiting cathedrals, and Lichfield is one of my favourites. It provides the perfect combination of spiritual peace with the beauty of design and some amazing history - ask to see the replicas of The Hoard, and some of the illuminated books in their library.

Recently visited Lichfield for the first time and decided to wander up to the cathedral to take a look at the exterior. Was pleasantly surprised to find that there is no entrance fee for this magnificent building. Once inside the area is huge - one of the biggest I've ever seen and you can wander around for as long as you wish without any pressure on you. Photography is not a problem although some areas do not allow the use of the flash. There is also a small gift shop and the prices are very reasonable. Would recommend anyone who visits the city to go and spend at least twenty minutes exploring this beautiful building.

We visit many Cathedrals to enjoy the architecture, music and worship. Lichfield scored very high on each of these and we really enjoyed talking to many of the local team.

I Have been coming here for about three years, since I started seeing someone who lived locally and then a year ago I moved to Lichfield so go there at least once a week.
The architecture is awe inspiring, the stone masonry off the scale, it's history incredible. Every body that work there are genuinely very friendly and every visitor receives a warm welcome. The services are high church but without the usual haughtiness that other places are guilty of. It is the jewel of Lichfield and it's prominence as part of the skyline for me gives me a great sense of comfort as I travel round the city. If you visit Lichfield then the Cathedral is simply a must and for some of you it will be a great spiritual experience as well..

This Cathedral is most worthy of a visit by anyone young or old,and very accessible for the disabled with wheel chairs etc. My husband who can not walk far had plenty of opportunities to sit down, so was able to take his time in viewing all aspects of this amazing building. We had a very pleasant afternoon here. Toilets and drinks etc are not available within the Cathedral but do not be put off by this as they located very close within the square around the Cathedral. No fee to enter but a donation is requested.

We were staying near Lichfield to visit the National Memorial Arboretum so popped into town on a quiet Sunday afternoon to visit the cathedral. What an amazing building. I love our Norman and medieval built heritage and this is about 800 years old. Fantastic statues on the front and an amazing very worn statue of Charles II to one side. Helpful volunteer guides to welcome you and no fixed entry fee were a bonus.

The only disappointment was not Lichfield's fault - my camera battery failed as I tried to take what would have been the first of many photos. A good reason for a return visit next time we travel up country.

There is also a cafe on the approach to the cathedral which serves tasty snacks and light meals. All in all a great place to while away a few hours.

My wife and I stopped off in Lichfield to break our journey south and we were very pleasantly surprised. We followed the street signs to the catherdral which is situated in a lovely conservation area. The frontage of the catherdral is stunning with many beautifully carved figures each with its own unique design.
Entrance to the cathedral was free (donations welcomed) and the interior doesn't disappoint, we spent an interesting hour wandering round and there were several helpful guides to answer any questions
Coupled with the City itself a visit to this fantastic piece of English heritage is highly recommended.

I enjoy visiting English cathedrals, especially if I can catch the organ playing or a choir singing. Lichfield cathedral is one of the most interesting of the many English cathedrals I have visited, unique in that it is the only English cathedral with three spires and is the cathedral that was most damaged during the English Civil War. It has an ornate façade and has been wonderfully restored. The Chapter House of the cathedral contains the St. Chad gospels which predate the Book of Kells. The gospels, in Latin and with some wonderful illustrations, include all of Matthew and Mark, and part of Luke. The St. Chad gospels are visible but protected, however there is an interactive display that allows visitors to turn the pages of the gospels to view the pages. The cathedral contains some gorgeous stained glass windows and has a choir. I attended Evensong on two consecutive days and was able to hear both the men's choir and the boy's choir.

The new(ish) displays in the cathedral chapter house are absolutely fascinating. In addition to the Chad Gospels we now have the superb Lichfield Angel sculpture, and a small display of items from the Mercian Hoard. The combination of these three elements- each one an amazing survival- has made Lichfield a must -see destination for anyone interested in Anglo- Saxon history. The room stewards on duty were enthusiastic and well informed and made our visit a pleasure

Beautiful and has the wow factor. You have to sit and take in the surroundings and imagine what it was like when this was built. Just beautiful and to take a leisurely stroll inside and around the grounds on a nice day is most enjoyable. Must see when coming to lichfield. I over heard a little girl tell her mum that it was the "Disney castle"

This building is architecturally beautiful, the carvings are intricate. It is easy to see the progress over the years as you stroll outside along the side. The stories and traditions are interesting a little gem nestled in the Midlands.
