Another piece of history I like to walk around. Such an amazing place, beautiful, historical and something I am proud to have in Lichfield. Probably not appealing to the teens or even the young but I definitely like to sit and catch a view of the cathedral. I thoroughly enjoy history therefore I enjoy walking through the cathedral. The windows are beautiful, it's huge and wonderful. I love the fact they've kept the cathedral exactly how it is and haven't turned it into something modern like most things that have happened to Lichfield

Absolutely beautiful place to visit, need a full day at least. So much history and all relating to local community - was educational as well as calming. Need to make my next visit a few days long to take in everything Lichfield has to offer.

This beautiful Cathedral sits in a lovely city. Car parking is free in the city's car parks on a Sunday and that's very handy. Have a walk around the city streets and then the Cathedral to get a feel of the place. This church sits in front of a small square and from here you get a great view of the Kings of England that adorn the front of the Cathedral. Once inside it's all and more of what you expect a Cathedral to be, beautiful glass windows, tiled flooring and roof.

Went for a weekend with my in-laws to Lichfield.
Passed it many times but finally in and it was much more to see than I expected. Not only the building itself but also much more stories behind it. Do take a tour if there's one available. We happened to joined one tour with guide and knew more stories behind it.
Worth a visit.

I live close to Lichfield but hadn't visited the cathedral for about 20 years. We had visitors over from Spain that wanted to go and see the cathedral and its famous three spires.
Well I'd forgotten how beautiful it is and so interesting to look around.
We had children 16,15 and 10 years old with us and I can honestly say we all enjoyed our visit.
So if your visiting Lichfield or even if your a Local and haven't been for a while it's well worth a visit.

Though I knew Lichfield had a cathedral, I had never seen a picture and didn't have particularly high expectations. I was so impressed! I'm areligious, but as a keen history, art and architecture lover this visit ticked every box for me. Both exterior and interior are stunning, distinguished by the lovely rose-coloured sandstone. This architecture alone is enough to warrant a visit, but the exhibits inside elevate it further - interesting sculptures by Peter Walker and some exquisite pieces from the Staffordshire Hoard (though, sadly, some pieces are only replicas, it's still nice to see them). The filigree work is just incredible.

On top of this, the staff members I interacted with all seemed really friendly and helpful. I don't think there was a tour available when I visited, otherwise I'd definitely have taken it. Would definitely recommend!

I've been here sooo many times but never get bored of looking around! The building is absolutely stunning, amazing architecture, beautiful inside. Calm and peaceful! Always love to light a candle and leave a prayer card with a donation. Last visited yesterday and was disappointed with some of the interior building work going on but it was still a lovely visit.

It's just jaw-dropping. Be prepared for a stiff neck, with all the looking up. But worth it. We wanted to hear the choir sing evensong, but it was a spoken service on the evening we visited, so do check first. The modern sculpture exhibits work perfectly in the space.

Some cathedrals push the amount it takes to keep them going; this one is more low-key, but quite welcoming. We didn't do a guided tour in the time available on a day trip, but the lady at the door had an appropriate manner. The building is magnificent and the Staffordshire Hoard display, though not large, was well-presented. Always worth a visit.

The main reason to visit Lichfield is the cathedral with its three spires . The surprise when you enter the close and see the unique architecture is worth the trip alone but once you enter the cathedral you are touched by the history and the tranquility .

You can look at current architecture but when it comes to magnificance ,buildings of this period, will never be surpassed. The constructional inginuety of such massive building structures, the keying of each stone ,the sculptures crafted by man from days gone by are probably lost.
There is plenty to see, allow plenty of time to reflect and consider how it was done.

It is exactly what you would expect really, nothing too adrenaline rush based, just a cathedral in Lichfield. Ok to visit to tick off a list.

Beautiful.
One of Britain's finest cathedrals dedicated to St Chad. Free entry but donations are welcome.
I love evensong here as it is just right. Sitting in the choir stalls, you are always made to feel welcome.
Very spiritual.

What an amazing history! We were lucky enough to get onto a guided tour and I can see how much you would miss if you just went round by yourselves.

I enjoy going into the cathedral, used to go a lot when I was younger and in the Guides, rememberence service was always well attended, and I used to be the flag bearer, which was an honour to represent our Guide group.

Lichfield Cathedral has well marked rooms and tours are available at 2pm Mon-Sat. They hold services throughout the day as well, visitors get the chance to participate in holy communion if they want to. Definitely a great day out for the family. Highly recommend

Beautiful old building. Unique, I believe, due to its 3 spires. Has a partial moat around it, with duck, swans, etc.

I visited Lichfield Cathedral in February 2014 to see Seth Lakeman perform here. It was a lovely venue and the event ran very smoothly! Particular songs such as 'portrait of my wife' sounded beautiful with the echoey vibes and added to the whole gig atmosphere.
I have visited Lichfield on several occasions and have always made sure to walk via the cathedral as it's a very scenic area externally.

It towers over the city centre - 3 spires peering over the Minster Pool. In fact it is the only medieval English cathedral with three spires.

The cathedral is dedicated to St Chad and Saint Mary. It's not that large with an internal length is 370 feet so easy to walk around.

The best way of approaching it is from Bird St so you can walk up to see the magnificent front facing you. It is as wonderful inside with the splendid nave leading up to the choir.

Have a walk all around the outside as well as The Close is very pretty as well and you can end up in Chapters their own licensed restaurant, which serves light meals, tea and coffee, wine and beer and is owned by the cathedral so if you haven't made a donation (entrance to Lichfield Cathedral is free) then at least the profit from your meal or drinks goes back into the upkeep.

We enjoyed the approach along Cathedral Close (with information about the civil war exchanges that took place here) and beautifully sculptured west front. Things got even better once inside. From the moment we entered the cathedral to the moment we left we felt welcomed and valued by the staff and volunteers who passed on their enthusiasm for the life and history held within. There is plenty of interest to see walking around the interior, in particular the Chapter House with its displays and artefacts including the Book of Chad the amazing Staffordshire Anglo-Saxon Hoard. Elsewhere there were modern artworks exhibited alongside fascinating memorials as well as the atmospheric worship spaces and Christian heritage inspired by St. Chad's exploits. The history of the building and its varied contents combine with the life within the cathedral today to make for a very enjoyable family visit.
