Very impressive cathedral. I have visited a number of times and find something different each time. So atmospheric and peaceful at the same time. Definitely worth a visit.v

Take you time to soak in and observe the history of this beautiful building with its three spires. It's free to walk around and there are helpful staff offering information and guide leaflets. It is worth a visit and also worth a donation as you leave!

Stand back from the external front of the cathedral to appreciate the skill of the many craftsmen who have made this building so unique. (Also note the house of Erasmus Darwin is opposite the frontage of the cathedral and is also worth a visit)

The title refers to the three spires - most unique in fact the only medieval cathedral with three spires! The full size carvings as you walk up to the cathedral are very interesting with most of them still in one piece. As you walk in you are greeted by a guide who gives you a leaflet and mentions the things that she recommends you to see. We walked up to the chapel that she mentioned where there was a display of some of the hoard which had been discovered, as recent as 2003, under the flooring in the cathedral including the Lichfield Angel. There was a very helpful gentleman who spent a long time explaining the importance of the hoard. The bosses on the ceilings were very impressive too. A truly beautiful building! We had coffee and cake in their tea room too! The cathedral is situated on a lovely green surrounded by some very varied and attractive buildings. If you have time walk and see the old medieval hospital with 8 chimneys! Unfortunately we only had a 2 hour stay en route to Blackpool on a coach trip but it seems as if there is lots to see here - there was mention of some Roman ruins!

This is a very imposing building the facade is amazing with wonderful carvings. The interior is interesting with wonderful stain glass windows and memorials. The choir area is central with wonderful wooden carvings. If you are expecting lots of guilt or art work like the Catholic Churches then you will be disappointed. The interior has wonderful ceilings and shouldn't be missed if you are in Lichfeild. Splendid.

The highlight of our visit was the Chapter House where a friendly volunteer took time to explain the architecture and a number of exhibits to us including pieces from the Staffordshire Hoard.

Cathedral is very nice but we specifically visited to see the Staffordshire Hoard, very few pieces on display as hey have broken up the collection to show it at several heritage sites around the county - very disappointing, recommend getting it all together and rotating a single display for three months of the yer to each location

Whether religious or not, this large and historic building with some displays of artefacts (the Staffordshire Hoard) is very much worth visiting. The architecture and stained glass are both exceptional.

The three spires dominate the view as you enter the city. Do take a moment to walk around the outside to look stall the statues. A volunteer greeted us with a short explanation of its history and gave us a leaflet. The chapter house is a highlight. There is an exhibition of some of the Staffordshire hoard here. The Lichfield Angel is A recently discovered Anglo-Saxon sculpture. The stained and painted glass is beautiful. The Minton tiles in the choir are well preserved.

My wife and I once again mentioned why we have not visited Lichfield Cathedral as we said last year about Worcester and living so close....well at last we are glad that we visited as it is well worth it.
There is ample car parks within 5 mins walking distance and approx £2 for 4hours.
Situated opposite the mill pond of the Minster is Ego restauarant which is ideal for something to eat and a lovely view through the glass frontage.
If you have time it is worth visiting the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas (8/9 mile approx 18/20 mins by car)

I was blown away with the detail on this cathedral both inside and out.

One of the best Cathedrals I have visited. All the statues on the outside are quite unique.

Well worth a visit.

Very nice cathedral with nice staff. Very nice area. Around the cathedral are lots of shops and things. We visited the owl man that was there and my daughters held a bird of pray. We also had McDonald's for dinner and then visited the shops afterwards.

Just the outside of the building is impressive even before you go in.

Nowadays, of course, you can find out almost all you need to know about a cathedral from its website but a visit can add so much more. This was certainly the case for Lichfield which I visited on a sunny day out of the tourist season. The striking dark sandstone contrasts with many other cathedrals but the three spires are unique for a medieval English cathedral and in themselves justify a visit since they give you a surprising range of perspectives as you walk round the attractive close.

There is an excellent free “flyer” and a guidebook (£5) with informative text and impressive photos but I was lucky enough to have a very knowledgeable guide all to myself. This was very generous of this lady’s time and I would have had no reason to complain if they had decided to cancel the tour (also £5). Unfortunately, I was limited for time but would certainly visit again, trying to coincide it with a choral service. Highly recommended.

First impressions of Lichfield Cathedral when you look at the amazing ornate masonry work outside is nothing short of amazing. Ruined IMHO by the 'Modern' horse heads and to a lesser degree by the prancing horses but no doubt some artist or other can justify why these abominations have been incorporated into a site with over 1300 years of history.
The exterior alone is worth a visit but beware, if you really want to soak in the atmosphere and properly appreciate all the statues and gargoyles, you will be outside for a long time.
Internally, it is fairly plain by comparison.
A really nice touch is being met by one of the welcomers who spends a few minutes helping visitors become orientated and hands out a short information guide which carries a map and some history of the various parts of the Cathedral.
Lots to see inside but this is not so grand as some of its counterparts although in many ways, is every bit worth visiting.

My wife and myself visited Lichfield Cathedral on a Saturday so quite busy, but all the staff and volunteers went out of there way to make sure we found all of the items we had asked about, and many more !
So many items to see, historical and religious. Alterations were ongoing but did not spoil our visit,We will definitely visit again.

Taken the grandkids out and my two year old loved looking around the cathedral. He even lit two remembrance candles. A definite "must do" visit if you're in Lichfield.

We went to see our Daughter receive her Honours for 3 years hard work. A very proud moment indeed, the Cathedral was full, but we arrived early so we had chance to have a good look all around. Breath taking.

What an amazing building - we walked around the perimeter and the grounds before entering ; the tour guides told us a service was underway so we stood at the door to take in the atmosphere but left - It's a fabulously stunning building in an amazing setting , in a lovely city. It definitely has the wow factor....Free entry with donations gratefully received. There were young and old there on the day - all in awe of the whole experience. Lovely grounds to sit in on a nice day - all in all a lovely day or weekend could be spent here in Lichfield.
