The food both in the evening and at breakfast was amazing! Really good, and the whole team really looked after us brilliantly and were so lovely to us too. The village is an idyllic setting to relax and have a lovely break. We did some beautiful dog walks around the area and it was so great that the George was happy for our dog to come with us and even be seated with us at dinner in the cosy Snug area of the bar/restaurant. Thank you so much for such a lovely and comfortable stay. It was a really enjoyable weekend and such a great place to be!

Stayed for one night whilst visiting family nearby. The accommodation was immaculate, the setting idyllic and the welcome warm. We spent a pleasant evening enjoying some local beers in the beer garden before heading to our clean and spacious accommodation. Very dog friendly too!

We chose to stay here on way home (Herts) from holiday in Scotland. Lovely setting in quiet village. There is no onsite parking, but we parked just across road from The George on main street. Accommodation is basic but comfortable and welcomed our 2 Springer Spaniels; what we wanted from a country inn. Good wireless network connectivity too Food is exceptionally good. We had dinner and cooked breakfast and both were excellent. Neil, the landlord, was friendly and helpful. Overall, great value for money and highly recommended.

Superb The food was exceptionally good. Fresh produce, good preparation, well presented and full of flavour. Can't compliment it enough. We had dinner and breakfast and both were excellent. Neil, the landlord was friendly and helpful, as were staff. Having to sleep in a normal sized double bed!! My problem; not The George's. We'd just spent the week at a holiday cottage in Galloway Forest with a super king size bed, so sleeping in the smaller bed felt uncomfortable. Mattress was very comfortable and room was basic, but probably at top end of expectation for a country Inn.

Accommodation was of a good standard, clean well appointed rooms with all the facilities you would expect.
The food ( both a la carte) and breakfast was exceptional .....steaks were cooked as ordered and the meat of good quality. Vegetables were cooked to order and again cooked perfectly. Desserts were out of this world.
Breakfast was equally as good, all the fruit juices, cereals etc and a full English breakfast. Made with local good quality ingredients rather than cheap sausages/ bacon etc..... it was the little details that made a difference, warm plates, freshly cooked food served hot ( as opposed to food re heated or kept warm as is often the case)
The landlord clearly puts effort into the pub, he and the staff make you feel welcome and want you to enjoy yourself.
My wife ( and I) really enjoyed our brief stay at the George and as the saying goes " happy wife, happy life" we couldn't fault anything..

We went to The George with our neighbours to celebrate their birthdays.
From the minute we walked in until the minute we left we felt welcomed and valued. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful without being intrusive.
We had the most delicious meal made with top quality ingredients. Everything was beautifully presented. There was bread and butter to nibble on whilst we waited got our food.
3 out of the 4 of us had starters - lamb koftas for my husband and one of our guests were declared as having a “kick” but not too spicy. I had squid and scallop roe in a very light batter accompanied by a side salad. These were really yummy! The 2 men had steak for their main course - cooked to perfection as they had requested (medium), I had lamb which was also cooked just right and our female guest had pan fried fish which she said was “mmmmm”!
3 of us opted for dessert. I had rhubarb spritz with shortbread biscuits. This was a very generous portion so I wrapped up one of the biscuits to have with my morning coffee the next day. The men had cherry and almond sponge with custard - light and fluffy. The food was so lovely that I wanted to “dive in” so I forgot to take any photos except for my dessert.
Everything was very reasonably priced considering the quality of the food and how it was presented.

We’ve just had an amazing afternoon tea at The George in Ashley! All homemade cakes & sandwiches. The warm fruit scones with jam & clotted cream were the best we’ve had & we’ve had quite a few !! Didn’t get scones in pic 🤪

It’s a very long time since we visited The George so decided to book in tonight for a bite to eat on the way home from the Cinema. Tuesday night happens to be pie night and blimey! what excellent pies they were. We sampled Steak & Guinness and Chicken & Ham. Both were packed full of soft succulent filling and tasted delicious. Four plates were quickly cleaned up accompanied by included drinks (and a few more). The staff were very welcoming and good fun.

Value for money was excellent and we can’t wait to return to try steak night, Sunday lunch or the normal (regularly changed) evening menu. We could become regular visitors here very easily.

My first time being here. I had a very comfortable stay. Nice fluffy bed with a good amount of pillows, the whole room was in great condition. The services that are available to you are also clearly outlined. I slept really well, woke up to have breakfast which was just a superb (Full English) but what topped off my experience was the customer service. Just spot on very professional and accommodating. Staff that are willing to go that extra mile for you. If you find yourself here you’re in for a treat.

Very welcoming hosts and lovely cosy rooms in the very picturesque village of Ashley. Enjoyed two nights here with great breakfast in the morning and delicious food at night. The bar is a welcoming place with its low ceiling and cosy open fire. I highly recommend this place.
