As our local is temporarily closed we are visiting other pubs serving food in the area. This was the first visit to The George at Ashley and we shall definitely be returning. We booked in advance, which was a good thing as almost all the tables in the eating area were taken (a Thursday evening) with a collection of friendly patrons who were evidently enjoying themselves. The host was very welcoming and took time to talk to us about his pub. All the food is cooked from fresh ingredients so you expect to wait a few minutes for the dishes to arrive. Well worth the wait. I had the mushroom soup which was strongly flavoured and full of character, followed by the venison - tender as chicken and served in a delicious wine sauce. The beer selection was good; the wine list was a bit limited in choices of single glass (as opposed to a full bottle) wine, but the landlord obviously knows his customers and didn't have a pretentious or expensive list. Thanks for a really enjoyable meal and such a great atmosphere.

A pleasant country pub. The food at lunch time was quite satisfactory at a fair price.
The gents was the cleanest I've ever come across in a pub.
Going to try the dinner menu which looks quite tempting.

fine for a night in a perfect location for what we wanted . very friendly and helpful staff . The room was spotlessly clean , warm (the weather had turned extremely cold ) and the bed was comfortable. The room was small and would have benefitted from a few hooks to hang things up and more than two hangers in the wardrobe as there wasn’t room for a chair or table . wouldn’t have wanted to stay more than a night .

Just had a delicious meal at this lovely little country pub. I started with scallops and black pudding which was cooked perfectly, very tasty and not too heavy. My partner had a panko breadcrumbed goats cheese with beetroot and walnut salad which was also devoured with relish! My main course was a hangar steak with chimmichurri sauce on mac n cheese, a novel combination which really worked. It was rich and full of flavour and extremely filling. Helen opted for salmon & prawns with a shrimp butter, which she also really enjoyed. By this time we were both bursting so just had coffee, although looking at the desserts that were coming out we wished we had left a little bit of room! Great service, atmosphere and genial hosts. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Excellent 2 night's accommodation whilst visiting relatives. Recommendations already made Saturday evening meal - excellent Breakfast - both continental and cooked available, all excellent. Our dog was well catered for Steep, angled stairs to the accomodation. Post COVID opening days and times less than before, e.g. pub closed Sunday evening - no food service. Car parking merely on the street

Warm and welcoming We loved our stay at The George. It is family run and Neil and Steph were so welcoming and accomodating. I am gluten free and they really adapted the menu to make sure I had the best food. There was an open fire, friendly locals and fine dining. Our room was immaculately clean, warm, with quality toiletries in the bathroom. It was a home from home and we are keen to return. Nothing to dislike. It was perfect in every way!
