Popped in for lunch with my mother, service was friendly and unobtrusive, food was (or appeared) simple but was delicious. I had Brushetta with grilled veg, feta and parsley pesto on a bed of leaves, mother had croque Monsieur. With one cookie, one (organic) lemonade and two coffees the bill was just over £22, however I think the quaint (but not chintzy) cottage setting and civilised, calm atmosphere was worth the extra. The service has been commented on previously as a problem, we found it not too bad, they took our order at just the right time, the food wasn't too long, slightly too long to come back to take coffee order and we didn't wait for the bill but just went to desk andpaid. We'll be going back.

Four of us went in for an evening meal and it was superb. Between us we ordered most of what was on the limited menu - and were all agreed that it was rustic French cusine at its very best. Asked Stefan the owner to choose a suitable wine for us and that too was perfect. Small, cosy and relaxed atmosphere with a very friendly welcome and attentive staff. Booking for evening meals is essential. Price reflects the quality of food and wine.

Went to the secret garden for a meal for our wedding anniversary lived near Sudbury for 15 years and never knew this place existed but found it to be a hidden gem they had a change of Chef
just the day before and worried the standards may have dropped but if they had it must have been very special before as we had a really lovely meal and well priced the service was great and the lady who owns the restaurant was very keen that all the diners were enjoying themselves we will definately go back soon anyone thinking of going should think about booking in advanced as it is small with only a few tables which makes it feel quite exclusive

This place never disappoints! The food is glorious and service good. I took a friend here for lunch, she was suitably impressed.

Recently we were invited to The Secret Garden by friends and though we found the food was enjoyable our evening was ruined by a manageress/waitress called Kirsti who was very cheekily patronising to my wife. We don't often get this kind of rudeness from restaurant staff but when it happens it can ruin an evening out so we would wish not to return in spite of the food.

A tea shop that opens for evening meals. It's like the best French meals - a small, carefully considered menu cooked to perfection. My husband had millet with his main course rather than just potatoes or rice, and although I teased him about budgerigar food he said it was absolutely delcious - high praise from him. Everything here tasted fantastic, the portion sizes were just right and it was a very reasonable set price for two or three courses. The staff were welcoming and happy to chat if you wanted them to, otherwise courteous and efficient. The service was neither too fast nor too slow. The tables were far enough apart to give you intimacy if you wanted it but near enough to chat with other diners if you wished to do so. This is no swanky restaurant - go to the Mill if that's your scene - but the Secret Garden certainly served up the best food we ate in Sudbury. I thoroughly recommended it.

I love the ambience of this place. The owner is friendly, and even if the service can sometimes be slow, the food is always worth the wait. Nice, seasonal specials at lunchtime with a French twist, and fantastic bread and patisseries. Lucky Sudbury!!

We were really pleased to find this little place on our first visit to Sudbury. We only stopped for a mid morning snack but really enjoyed the scones and croissants. Brilliant tea menu, great cappucino and lovely hot chocolate. Very busy - it seems best to reserve a table if you can. Lovely staff. We'll definitely go back and perhaps try lunch - the menu sounded very nice.

Visit here quite often, and am never disappointed. The comment about lack of choice in previous comment - im amazed - always have lots to choose from and always good value with fresh ingrediants.

Quirky and very French , great food and value. Just wish there is more than one meat main dish on the daily specials. This sells out quite quickly and if you don't fancy the vegetarian option it can be embarrassing when you leave?

The food here is really good - simple but honest. It was a cold day and the place was very chilly. Beware if you are tall as there are low beams everywhere

We went to the secret garden on the recommendation of friends. It is a tea shop / coffee house during the day and on Friday and Saturday evening it's a quality French Restaurant
The menu is simple and I'm told it changes 6 times a year, with a Starter, main and desert special from the board. I had a scallops to start followed by a sublime venison pie. The wine list contains wines you don't usually see in the UK, but I feel they are about 10% over priced for the area. Don't get me wrong good quality at a price. All of this left me too full to try a desert, so I sat while my partner tucked into a chocolate mouse she said was every bit as good as she had eaten.
Decor is a little quirky but overall teh experience was a good one, and we will defiantly be going back.

What can I say... The staff are amazing, friendly, chatty & personable.
Stefan, the owner, a joy to see & talk to.
And the garden at the rear in summer... a wonderful place.
A must for all.

Very good service, seating in or out and lovely food, and drink. Little bit pricy but then no noisy children or rude customers spoiling it for others.

Superb but unfussy French food, with wonderful owner led service. Always reliable. Book on a Friday lunchtime though!

Really nice for a cup of tea and a light lunch - nice surroundings and very peaceful setting. Would recommend.

I really like the standard of cooking here.not pretentious French cuisine more rustic .
Please offer more than one meat main because the one choice often sells out leaving only a vegetarian main. When I walk in and see the meat dish rubbed off the black board , I am embarrassed having to leave as I am not into vegetarian options.Service can be very slow.

We often pop into the Secret Garden for coffee - mainly when it's sunny so we can bask in the "secret" garden at the back of the tea rooms. Very friendly staff and some great food on offer - not particularly cheap nor eye wateringly expensive. It's great to hear the French accent of (I believe) one of the owners who it is, I assume, offers French tuition as a side line to the business!

It is some time since we visited the Secret Garden in Sudbury. This as a quaint little place only a couple of minutes walk from the Market Hill and yes it really does have a secret garden!
At lunch we had the choice of a few daily specials (typically grilled sea bass) or a tempting selection of light lunch items. I particularly enjoyed the smoked chicken with assorted dressed leaves and my wife loved her avocado and crayfish on baby spinach with a passionfruit and chilli dressing.
The home made bread (hot from the oven at noon!) with real butter, was simply sensational.
Maybe we should keep it a secret?

The best thing about the Secret Garden is the staff, they make you feel so welcome and nothing is to much trouble, morning coffee and afternoon tea are both lovely.

This place is simply sublime. A warm welcoming atmosphere, pleasant friendly staff and excellent food. On this occasion I only had time for a quick snack - homemade soup with artisan bread, and the best lemon cake I have ever tasted in my life. If you are ever remotely near Sudbury don't miss out on this heavenly place.
