A good choice of nicely cooked home made food suitable for a very pleasant lunch in pleasant surroundings. Choices available for vegetarian and gluten free diets. The performances in the theatre itself are excellent so good for a pre performance meal.

My family and I attended The Octagon Theatre on 9th April to see East is East, it was a fantastic evening, we had nor been here before so did not know what to expect. My husband made the bookings so the rest of us did not know about the unusual layout of a central stage surrounded by the tiered seating.
We booked a meal at Eight, the theatre restaurant, the menu included dishes themed to the play beef curry, onion bhaji, etc. The restauranr visually appears like a café but on theatre nights the tables are all pre booked, the restaurant is licenced but only serves bottled beers and ciders plus wine by the glass or bottle. The food was excellent our group orders all the Asian themed meals, onion bhaji, lime and coconut chicken skewers for starters, peanut beef curry with pilau rice and nann bread, spicy salmon fillet with sauteed potatoes and salad. The portion sizes were plentiful so much so no one could face a dessert. The meals were great value for money at £17 per head for two courses.
The performance of East is East was outstanding and one of the best we had seen, it was our first proper play previously we had only seen musicals, my son rated the play over the film version. The cast were small in number and moved the scenery and props around themselves during the performance. The central stage allowed all the audience to see clearly all the action and in a smaller venue like this one was a bonus.
Unfortunately the theatre is closing down for 18 months for refurbishment but performances will continue at a temporary new home.
Once the original theatre is back in operation we shall visit again

Recently watched East Is East and was amazed by the quality of acting. Attention to detail of props and layout of stage was fantastic. Staff very helpful on the night. Cant comment on the food as didn’t eat but drinks were reasonably priced and served quickly. Can’t wait to visit again when the new theatre building is complete!!

Went to see the play East is East. An Asian play that has been done as a film. Thought the film was hilarious but thought the play a lot darker. Enjoyed it immensely. Only one play now until the reburbishment. I hope the Phoenix rises from these ashes.

Good access to venue, great seats. Amazing show! Shame there was only a few toilets for such a crowd.

Fantastic and thought provoking production. The cast were totally convincing as a real family. Poignant, funny and very moving. As relevant as when it was first performed 22 years ago. A standing ovation this afternoon- well deserved

Been to this theatre many times always good performance, but have to say was disappointed yesterday as the acting was poor by the younger performers I have seen the same performance previously and thought it was excellent.
One other thing I have to mention the theatre was so uncomfortable during the performance due to no A/C uncomfortably hot I have noticed this previously same comments from other goers I heard as I was leaving.

Not being a theatre luvie I really went to this not expecting much - I was wrong it was really brilliant .
The theatre itself could do with a bit of a makeover but was certainly very good if a little warm on this very cold night.
The performance was captivateing and although prob shakespeares best (argueably) was very enjoyable .
I may take in another couple of plays in the near future - prob a comedy or two .
I hope I enjoy as much as this place.
Has both a coffee bar and a drinks bar upstairs , i used the cofee bar, filter coffee is less than £2 again recomended.

Have season tickets so see most performances here. Quality of acting really good and good variety of genre. Theatre itself need some improvement but this is due to be carried out this next season.
Bar good but prices here are really high!

I throughly enjoyed watching Hamlet at the Octagon Theatre, on a very freezing cold afternoon, with a depleted audience All the cast were extremely good, a very high standard, and no weak link! David Rcardo-Pearce however was mesmerising, and extremely engaging. I loved it! I love Shakespeare but, this was the fist time I have seen Hamlet. Definitely good direction from David Thacker.

Rather bizarrely, I thought, the production began with an announcement that the actor playing Jane was ill and would be played by someone else.Unfortunately this person didn`t know the part so spent the entire play wandering about reading from a script.I found this so off putting that the whole experience was spoilt for me and I came away feeling disappointed and more than a little cheated.

We went to see the recent production of Jane eyre with colleagues. Initially i (ashamedly so!) was a bit sceptical, having never visited this theatre before, and having seen some rubbish in ‘local theatres’. How wrong I was! This was an excellently scripted, beautifully acted play- the minimalist stage was perfect and it was simply brilliant. I would love to go and watch something here again and recommended it to people since. Simply marvellous!

This is one of the friendliest theatres in the North West. The staff go out of their way to help you. The tickets are really reasonable, in terms of price.

I saw Jane Eyre today at a matinee and the views are great wherever you sit, as the venue is small. You can book a table and dine here before the show. But, do book as it always gets packed.

Jane Eyre is an earthy production, which is incredibly well acted. The small cast fill the stage. The sound design is perfect and Michael Peavoy and Jessica Baglow are both brilliant, as Rochester and Jane Eyre.

The seats are comfortable, and air con is coming soon. It is hot inside the auditorium, so this will be really welcome.

If you like a theatre company that takes risks and shows classics, get to the Octagon. It is a great place and a great space.

This is such a lovely welcoming place. It was easy to book the performance and when we arrived in Bolton very easy to park. The theatre has a lovely cafe/restaurant with a very lovely atmosphere. The seating was great and a superb cast that portrayed the story of Jayne Eyre adapted from Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel with care and feeling. The theatre has a lovely personal feel. Thank you.
