We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is well placed for public transport to get you to either Brighton or Hastings using you bus pass from a bus stop right outside the hotel.

The food is of reasonable quality for the price and the entertainment is again reasonable.

I have just spent a Turkey and Tinsel Weekend break through Shearings at The Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne, The Hotel is very well situated on the Royal Parade nearly opposite the Pier. The staff at The Burlington are very profesional and effeciant and the food and service in the Restaurant is first class. The only down side I experineced in this Hotel was the drabness of the single room that I stayed in although I got the holiday at a last minute bargain but if I had not I would have had to complain about the condition of the room. This seems to be quite common in single rooms in Hotels which really is not very acceptable especially when single room suppliments are charged also I found that the telephone in my room only worked occasionly and also the window would not open the televisions are a little dated but thats not important to me has I dont watch that much television anyway, But all in all this Hotel isd still worth returning back to has this was my third visit

We booked this shearings holiday and we got a brilliant deal .
We had a lovely twin room spotlessly clean .Plenty of tea/coffee/sugar etc.We always ask for a quiet room away from the lift and twin room with a bath. The hotels usually manage to arrange this .We went down to dinner and as usual menu the same as every Bay Hotel but its the chefs that make the difference .Our waitress was efficient and always asking if everything ok.We went into the entertainment room and loved Mark what a lovely man.Quiz Bingo singers comedians really good.Drink prices the usual.we and our friends thought this was one ,if not the best Shearings Hotel weve been too.We will be going back again and would recommend this break to everyone. definatelyf

We stayed at this lovely hotel for 5 days arranged by Shearings. From start to finish you could not fault this hotel, we upgraded to a Premier room, it had just been refurbished, we were greeted by a large 4 poster bed, a bowl of fruit, chocolate, bottled water and every beverage you could think of, We stayed in room 218 which had a front and side sea views, it was spotlessly clean, towels were changed every day and the room cleaned. The meals were great, our lovely waitress Milania who was from Maderia was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for her. Entertainment every night and Mark Snow was a joy. The only critism was the Wifi it was very poor, but that is all. There were 5 in our party and we were all so pleased with everything. Well done The Burlington Hotel.

We have just returned from Tinsel and Turkey in October at the Burlington Hotel Eastbourne. We drove this time as we only live a couple of hours away. Arriving mid afternoon, the room was ready and waiting. We booked an upgrade to a sea view and we were not disappointed. Car parking was booked, as we did not know if there was any local parking. This was behind the hotel, however there was plenty of local parking at a price! Room and room service (ie cleaning) was good. food of a good standard, hot, plenty of choice and plentiful. Serving staff in restaurant worth at least 4 stars! Timi was our waitress for the week, could not fault her. This was the first week of the Tinsel and Turkey season this year and they got it right. The entertainer (sure his name was Mark) if not, you could not miss him, had to be at least 6ft 3 and 20 stone and really funny!
Bar was good and priced ok. Bar staff always smiling. So overall well done to everyone. A great break at an even greater price. We'll be going again soon.

Just returned from 4 day break with Shearings staying at burlington Eastbourne.

Didn't get off to a good start with driver going sick, replacement driver found then a very long tiring journey to Eastbourne, but quick check in, no time to change and down for dinner, not good start as would have preferred to shower and change.

Room was ok, refurbished, comy and clean, not good view but we didn't pay for sea view, so what we expected. But oh so very warm, in fact whole hotel was and with no heating on, don't know why that was though, wouldn't mind it at home would save fortune on gas bills.

Meals on the whole very good for the price of break not 5 star but didn't expect it but, hot, varied and well presented for both breakfast And dinner, but staff rushed off their feet. We had a very nice helpful efficient waitress.

Disappointed with first trip out just miserly one half hours to a village, but we had a relief driver, again very nice informative but would have preferred to see the scheduled beachy head on first day and had longer on our second full day which was to Brighton, instead time in Brighton cut short to go to beachy head. Which was shame.

We got a different driver for return trip home, he was again very nice and good driver. But too long a day travelling.

Entertainment was very good, Mark Snow worked his socks off making sure everyone had good time, he put on extra quizzes when it rained hard on wed afternoon, it was turkey and tinsel break first one I've been too, was very odd to see Xmas decs up and tree adorned, odder to have Christmas Eve, Xmas day, and New Year's Eve themed dinners and entertainment, but we got on with the festivities. And joined in the theme. Thank you Mark.

The guest artists were all very good, the first one on tue (aka Xmas Eve) was very good but his act spoiled by very rude lady sat right at front of stage who spent whole time on her phone and sat with her bare feet on a chair, I felt for the singer/comedian, who did seemed to be put off by her and I can't blame him I'm sure he cut his appearance short. If you don't want to watch entertainment sit at back of the room and keep your shoes on!

2nd night the artist cancelled as she was sick, we got a superb young man by the name of Tom Fitzgerald who crooned his way through his spot. Excellent.

Final night (New Years Eve) was mark snows day off and evening entertainment was provided by an excellent All round man by the name of Ray Cambell complete with a rendition of auld Lang syne at 11pm and a release of balloons. He did full two half hours without a break.

Now to the bar, we have been on Shearings before and know drink prices to be expensive but on this occasion we were even more shocked I went to bar to get diet lemonade the lady said it came in bottle, I said ok, she produced a very very small 160ml bottle because it was so small I asked for two it cos me a staggering £4.40. Which I believe is extautuinous I have posted a copy of the said very small bottles so beware if you want a lemonade.

All in all a very clean hotel with nice staff and decent food for price. But don't buy a soft drink!

I am not very mobile as I am recovering from a broken back. I have to use a three wheeled trolley. The staff and guests were superb ! They knew when I needed help or I wanted to be independent. The driver Peter was so kind, considerate and very helpful .The food and acommodation were faultless. I would recommend the hotel wholeheartily ! Thanks to all !!

Just read the comment on the food at the Burlington, well ! we are all amazed, we thought the food was excellent, and we all commented on how hot it was, all staff were excellent, Mark Snow , brilliant entertainer, Yes, some of the rooms do need an update, but then, for not much more, an upgrade would help those who are not happy,
For £99 3 nights , amazing value, just to mention, I was talking to a Gent in the shopping area, he told me , he had been paying £25 a night, just for a bed, look what you get for the other £24, great food, great entertainment, and for some, the coach there and back, amazing value,
We will certainly be going back, well done all at the Burlington, and thank you,

We have visited here before and so it says a lot that we return! The staff are, it seems without exception, helpful and friendly. I know some of the rooms can be a little tired, but we were lucky enough to have an updated one with a wonderful sea view (thank you, Burlington reception!). The entertainment was very good (especially Mark Snow, who bends over backwards to ensure everyone is happy and it is clear that he loves his job!). As before, we enjoyed our stay immensely. The only non-positive comment I would make is that the breakfast was fine, but the evening meals were very disappointing, both in content and temperature. Certainly they are not up to the standard we have enjoyed at the Burlington in the past. Having said that, these breaks are extremely good value and you can't have everything, but, if they can try to improve the dinners, that would be greatly appreciated. One or two of my choices were inedible and we decided to eat out one evening as a result. Overall though, as I said, a very good hotel, with lovely staff. We will be back!

It's Shearings so I would expect nothing less. Imposing building on the seafront. Room was at the rear of the building but we can't all have a sea view can we?

Room was comfortable, clean and tidy. Bathroom was clean with a bath and a shower. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Limited choice of food in the evening but would expect nothing else when dealing with some many people. However, food was tasty and plentiful.

Only downside was the old TV in the bedroom. Need upgrading. Don't need a big TV but does need to be updated - perhaps a small flat screen with built in Freeview

We stayed here on 4 night package last week. Our room was dingy but clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend a room upgrade. The food was excellent and good choices, plus the entertainment was most enjoyable - top marks to Mark Snow, the compere etc... The lifts were small and claustrophobic so would suggest a lower floor.

Our only real gripe was when the fire alarm went off one night just after we had got to sleep, and we had to clamber down the old fire escape. We felt a member of staff should have been organising the guests into muster stations but we did not see anyone and after a while we trailed back inside, not knowing what had caused this - if it was a false alarm or something else. Hence I found it hard to get back to sleep , thinking it might go off again.

It would have been appreciated if a notice could have been posted the next day to put peoples minds at rest as to what had happened.

In spite of this we did enjoy our break, thank you.

Stayed at hotel with friend as part of walking weekend. Good availability of single rooms. The Shearings half board package is good value especially as very little is added to cost if staying Sunday night. The hotel is in reasonable order especially as it is usually nearly full and so is well used. Evidence of recent refurbishment of corridors and common areas. Some rooms a little drafty and windows in need of double glazing. Restaurant staff are friendly and helpful and a table number is allocated when checking in. Meal times are flexible but dinner finishes at 8 pm. The three coarse half board menu offers reasonable choices with supplements for some additional options. Luggage room available for early check in or late check out and staff very helpful. Upgrades for rooms with a view or superior rooms are available at this hotel.

This is a lovely grand old Edwardian hotel overlooking the pier and seafront. We had a lovely double room with ensuite. The view and sunrises were amazing. The breakfasts and evening meals were tasty, ample and varied, as well as well-presented considering the vast numbers they were catering for. The staff were very friendly and cannot do enough for you. The shopping area, pier and seafront are all within seconds' walk from the hotel.

My only criticism (and I am not nomally one to be over-critical) is that it is not well-suited to the handicapped. For a start there are only two very small lifts which cannot adequately cope with the numbers using it. We unfortunately arrived just as a coach party were arriving, so trying to cram 60+ people into two very small lifts with all their luggage meant waiting ages for one to be free. Not the fault of the hotel, I hasten to add, as I ca see it would be difficult to remedy in a building so old. I used the stairs a lot as I am able to, but my elderly mother relied on the lift and had to wait, often a long time. The other problem for us was that as my mother cannot cope with stairs very well and has a walking disability, we had problems entering or leaving the hotel, as there are 4 steps at the front and 3 at the rear (one very steep). Unfortunately about halfway through our stay, she fell up the steps at the rear as we were returning to the hotel and managed to fracture her knee, so we called an ambulance and we spent the entire last day of her trip in A&E, after which she was taken by ambulance up to a London hospital for a six-week healing process and rehabilitation. Not the best end to a holiday! Despite knowing in advance that my mother was disabled and needed extra facilities, we were not told (as I discovered by accident on the last day) there was an exit through a French window somewhere in the restaurant which had no steps at all and would have been perfect for her.

As I say, a delightful hotel with lovely views, meals and staff, but just not well equipped for those with physical handicaps.

Visiting from the USA we checked into the Burlington on 22-9-14 and were warmly greeted by the front desk. Our room was #202, I think, a little tired, but comfortable and nice size. We went down for breakfast and at the entrance to the dining room looked and waited for the Maitre De as the front desk told us to check in with him upon gong for breakfast. He was not there, we waited for over five full minutes, no Maitre De. Everyone was walking past us and going in and setting down. So we went in and took a table for two. A waiter came up and took our drink and toast order and told us to go ahead to the breakfast bar. The waiter brought our tea and toast and took our breakfast order, which was promptly brought. My wife had to go to the restroom and left. Then the Maitre De came up and asked me why i was setting there. I told him no one was seated there so we set down. He then RAISED HIS VOICE and said I was to check in with him at the entrance. I explained we had tried to, but he was not there or nowhere to be seen. Still talking in a raised voice he said I should of waited for him, I explained we waited over five minutes. He persisted in telling me I should of waited for him. Now I'm getting embarassed as the people around us are taking notice. I told him again that he was absent from the entrance for a longer perior of time than my wife and i cared to stand there and wait, not knowing IF fhe would ever show up. At this point i stood up and asked him to go get the manager and he left and didn't return. My wife had returned at this point. I didn't get his name, but he was a large black man. After he left the table next to us said they couldn't believe his actiions and him doing what he had done in the tone of voice he used. After breakfast we checked out and moved to another hotel up the street. We spent three days in Eastbourne visiting sites and friends. Luckily for us we had only booked one night at the Burlington, not knowing what kind of a hotel it was. The checkout process went very smoothly. The staff other than the Maitre De were very plesant and helpful, the location is great. But, we wont be back. We would of given the hotel a higher rating than averave if it wasn't for our experience with the Maitre De. We have traveled all over the US and many foreign countires and have never been treated by a hotel staff member as this perosn. We had just spent 15 days touring London, Edinbugh and and renting a car and driving all over England. This being near the end of our trip left a sour taste in our mouth for England. No WiFi in room was a big disappointment as I had to go down to the lobby for laptop use. Tom USA

just returned from a week,s holiday in the Burlington.
food was very good plenty of choice and excellent service from friendly staff.
our room (207) was clean but the bathroom was small and cramped. the heated towel rail was very hot and we were unable to turn it of so the room was always hot and stuffy.
reported it to reception (several times) but nothing done.if we had the window open all night the traffic kept us awake. the dining room was also very hot and stuffy no air-con.
nice place but not our best holiday with shearings considering all the extras we paid.
shame as our last break at harrowgate was lovely.
at least the weather was good in Eastbourne last week.

I spent a week at the Burlington recently. The accommodation was good and clean and the food tasty and varied. The staff were friendly and helpful to such an extent that one of the waiters, Bruno Pestena ran to my assistance at breakfast time when i was choking on a misdirected piece of food. His timely help saved me from severe discomfort and possibly worse. He then carried on serving guests as if nothing had happened. I barely got a chance to thank him. With this calibre of staff I strongly recommend the Burlington.

Just returned from seven nights at the Bay Burlington Hotel Eastbourne and as usual excellent staff made the holiday special. The hotel itself is old but fairly well maintained and the rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The entertainment manager, Mark, is quite a joy and it is impossible not to be inspired by his sense of fun and boyish laugh whilst endeavouring to keep all the guests entertained. Meal times are slightly more flexible than previously and service one of the best of all the Shearings hotels we have visited, (thanks especially to George our waiter at table 52). The food was of varying quality but being vegetarian obviously my choices are very limited, however portions were generous and food was hot. I would definitely recommend a stay to anyone, and would generally recommend a sea view. However after anticipating the view and paying our £7. per person per night extra we were quite disappointed to discover that a small section of the hotel frontage was being renovated in sequence. Unfortunately on our first full day the scaffolding started going up at our section and by the second day it was outside our window on the third floor - and so were the workmen. Consequently we had to have our curtains drawn for privacy. I will say that Shearings refunded the sea view supplement without quibble, but it would have been nice to have been warned the sea view might not be available, when we booked.

We spent four days at the Burlington in May and were very happy with the hotel. We had been some years ago whilst they were refurbishing the hotel and had a terrible experience in a room which should never have been let. This time however the hotel was very comfortable and we had been given an upgrade to a room with a sea view. The staff were almost all non UK and our waiter had great difficulty in understanding our Welsh accents. However, the overall impression of the hotel was very good and the weather was fine.
We have been to both Shearings hotels in the town but this was by far the most positive experience. Whilst it has nothing to do with the hotel we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the town and missed the wish tower restaurant feeling that the new development on the site was poor.

We had an eventful trip due to our car cam belt breaking on the A27 at Havant, and had to decide weather to go back home by train, or carry on to Eastbourne. So glad we decided to carry on. The Burlington is a lovely grand old hotel, with super staff, superb breakfast, and evening meal, many thanks to our waiter at table 89 [ Sorry i can't remember his name ] who catered my wife's special needs. We had room 412, which was clean, tidy, and beds made every day. I complimented the staff at reception about this room, and was surprised to learn that it had not yet been updated like some of the other rooms, some people must just love to complain. If i had to find a complaint i would be hard pressed, but it would be nice to have had a live band on one of the evenings of our three night stay, but all in all a very enjoyable stay, with plenty to do and see. Thanks to all staff, and hope to be back soon.

We stayed on a 5 day shearings holiday at this hotel commencing Monday 18 th august. After a 7 hour coach journey we were told upon arrival that there was no hot water in our room and that there was a problem with the boiler. No alternative accommodation was offered but told that the engineer would be coming the day after.we finally had hot water on the Thursday evening before our departure on the Friday morning. We did use one of the rooms allocated to guests to have a hot shower during our stay so the hotel did offer its best alternative. Our room like so many of your other reviews was clean but in need of tlc and updating. The staff were generally helpful and the food was good.our stay was spoiled by the lack of hot water on demand and the length of time it took for a repair

Just back from a three-day break. The hotel has a lovely position on the sea front just by the pier. The staff are all very polite and welcoming. The hotel is a little tired in places but is a beautiful building. The dining room and entertainment areas are very impressive. The food was very good with choices for all three courses including coffee. Very attentive waiting staff. The entertainment was provided the three nights with were there and it catered for the varied age range of the guests. We had a room to the back of the hotel, which was Very clean although the bathroom could do with a makeover, but this didn't spoil our stay.
