We spent the last week end in April at the Hydro Hotel Eastbourne to celebrate my 70th birthday. We could not fault the Hotel or the staff. Eleven of us had dinner on the Friday evening and it was excellent. The luncheon on the Saturday was equally as good for 28 people including 7 children. Over the week end people were staying for varying times and on 2 occasions we had afternoon tea in the Conservatory and also dinner. My sister in law is Gluten free and this never caused any problem as the staff seamlessly produced Gluten free bread, toast or cake. I must say a very big thank you again to all the staff at the Hydro for making the weekend perfect. I have already booked out the Hotel and a function room for a larger occasion in 2020. Many thanks

We took advantage of the May Special deal, A couple of nights back at our favourite hotel for some serious eating, relaxing and catching up with the friends we've made.
Nice to see Jonathan (General Manager and great guy) nothing is a problem!
David,(barperson extraordinaire) and Spencer (all round Mr perfectly Fixedit)

We booked a double bed room in error, should have booked a twin, with a side seaview.
The room wasn't to 'our' liking. A small double bed in a small room.

But... A trip down to reception and a request to be moved to a twin.... Was dealt with efficiently and quickly. While we enjoyed our complimentary cream tea on arrival.
Thanks Tash!

We were given 208 a fabulous spacious room with twin beds, and side seaview, and probably the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in, with gorgeous fresh crisp sumptuous linen as always!

We have stayed in just about every room now, all are so different, but it's not difficult to get a room to suit you. It's all about personal preferences

Dinner was in the Crystal restaurant as always, our usual table allocated by Rosie, she knows exactly what we want.

There is a set 2 or 3 course menu.
For starters we chose Asparagus, and poached egg, The Asparagus was cooked to perfection, and a lovely soft egg.
To follow Lamb shanks for Main, the meat fell off the bone! Delicious!
Compliments to chef James. No dessert course, no room... Again!

Another wonderful stay at a fabulous hotel which knows how to please, some of my other recent Hotel/Restaurant reviews should take note! We Always return to this one!

We ordered room service breakfast, the works, delivered hot and on time by Chris, eating at our own window table with a view.

I will keep writing reviews for this fantastic hotel as long as we keep coming. It's well deserved for making everyone so welcome. And for getting it so right.

Stayed here with our bridge club once again. On leaving my room, a necklace dropped out of my suitcase. It was , I discovered, handed into housekeeping and then to reception. I phoned up when I realised it was lost and reception kindly wrapped it securely and posted it to me for a very modest charge. What excellent service: the icing on the cake following a most enjoyable weekend with good food, a comfortable room and efficient service by the restaurant staff. Thanks to all the staff and looking forward to our next stay in October.

We held our wedding reception in the beautiful garden suite of the hotel last weekend, and I can honestly say it was the most wonderful day. The hotel, rooms and grounds are all elegant and beautiful, the food was delicious and the service impeccable. The staff were all polite and helpful, and those involved with our wedding went above and beyond to ensure our day was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble. I would not hesitate to recommend the Hydro hotel to anyone considering a visit. The afternoon tea was especially delicious! Thanks again to the team for an amazing experience.

We stayed 3 nights in March on a special deal with Travelzoo. Perfect location for exploring Eastbourne, the beach etc, (never been there before), with lovely views from the gardens, as well. Tastefully decorated, in keeping with its history/character, with relaxing, comfortable public areas . Our room/en suite were just right and the bed, oh so comfy. Full English breakfast to set us up for the day and delicious dinners to finish off the day. But what really makes it the best is the staff – courteous, so helpful, convivial and prepared to go the extra mile! Will be going back.

Stayed here for a wedding last month . Very lovely hotel with stunning views . Staff very friendly and helpful and we even had an Easter egg on our breakfast chair such a lovely touch. The rooms have tea coffee hot chocolate and shampoo and body lotions in bathroom . All spotlessly clean . The only fault is we unfortunately had a double bed which we found very small so perhaps we should have asked for a bigger room. But would stay here again as centrally located.

It's a fine old hotel with grand public areas and an excellent situation. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Like other older hotels that have been upgraded, when a chunk is taken out of an already modest sized room to create an en-suite, you are left with an awkward and confined room space, and a toilet that you have to squeeze into.

The Hydro Hotel is perched high on the cliffs with fantastic views out to sea. We found the service to be friendly and efficient. Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was positively cavernous! We had a complimentary cream tea upon arrival served in the conservatory with views out to sea.
We met friends in Eastbourne and did not eat dinner in the hotel but breakfast was really as good as it gets, with the usual self service elements and, for us, smoked haddock with a perfect poached egg.
We had a problem with adjusting the water in the separate shower but were able to use the over bath shower instead. We reported the problem to reception and were assured that it would be remedied.

Following a family bereavement I needed to get away for a rest and to be looked after. Knowing the Hydro as I do it was the obvious choice of hotel to go to. I was upgraded to a lovely side sea view room which was immaculately clean and well appointed. All the staff I met were kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
I ate in the Crystal Restaurant and Rosie, the restaurant manager, was only to happy to accommodate my dietary needs. My only comment about the food is that vegetarian dishes should contain protein and not many of them here do. I have been mentioning this for years! It would also be good to see veggie sausages and hash browns on the breakfast menu.
The garden was looking beautiful in the spring sunshine and I even had a few games of croquet.

My friend treated me for my birthday to Afternoon Tea, it was one of the best ones we have eaten, Scones were moist and the homemade cakes were amazing especially the chocolate eclairs, overlooking the beautiful gardens and sea for the perfect setting, would highly recommend a visit here.

This hotel Is not only in a wonderful position overlooking the sea it is a very good event organiser. I held a Cream Tea Concert there on 7th April for the seventh year.( The cream teas are excellent). The hotel is much loved in our area and is known as a very good place for lunch as it is served in their light and airy conservatory. The staff are very helpful and easy to approach. There are plenty of seating areas providing a very comfortable place for a coffee and a chat.

Stayed for a few days and really loved the hotel. It is clearly old but not run-down. It reminds you of a more glamorous period. Some of the rooms (when we stayed) had been updated, but were only ok, not special. However, for the price they were quite reasonable. There is no air conditioning in the room or wifi. Great breakfast, friendly staff and well located for Beachy Head walks or evening strolls into town,

Three generations of the family visited The Hydro for a very nice Mother’s Day lunch.
The food was good, and my 90 year old mother-in-law really tucked in which was a pleasure to see.
The service was attentive and all Mums were given a small gift.
We will look forward to visiting again soon.

My husband and I needed to recuperate after being ill. The Hydro Hotel was a perfect choice. We arrived feeling tired but on entering the hotel we were immediately surrounded by the care and kindness of the staff. Our room overlooking the sea was restful, clean and with a happy atmosphere! We liked the attention to detail. Curtains that closed properly. Good bedside lamps. Powerful water supply. Lashings of hot water for a shower! The meals were good, service rather slow, it suited our relaxed mood!

Recognising waiters in the restaurant and enjoying the excellent varied menu thoughtfully presented, add to that the spectacular views from a sea view room leaves one happy to return year after year......long may it last. Much to enjoy nearby as well, the traditional theatre, local Art Gallery as well as a reliable bus service from the busy centre of town to Brighton on a coastal route with wonderful views, and then back to The Hydro..... hard to beat.

Stayed in a sea-view room in March 2019. An older hotel but we were impressed by the standards of maintenance and the thoughtfulness in the way the room was set out and equipped. Clean, very comfortable, unbeatable window views, lovely staff. Look forward to staying again.

My wife and I were impressed as soon as we entered the hotel. The receptionist was very helpful, the lounge area was very smart and comfortable. Our room was very clean and bathroom facilities good. The breakfast options were excellent, and the evening menu very good. The hotel is a fifteen minute walk from the town centre , but a pleasant walk along the seafront. Will definitely be going back to this hotel.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable 2 night stay at The Hydro. It is set in a pleasant location, part of Meads Village with its pubs and restaurants and a short walk from the cliffs or the main town. We enjoyed relaxing in the public areas which are sociable with a warm and friendly atmosphere (good people watching and plenty of seating). The conservatory is a nice place for a casual lunch overlooking the gardens and sea. The staff are friendly and obliging. We booked directly with the hotel and got the best price for a refurbished sea-view room. Recommended.

We had a wonderful experience at the Hydro at the weekend. The staff were pleasant, efficient and helpful, the Garden Suite looked lovely and food was very good. We were lucky with the weather and sat on the terrace for a drink before the meal and took photos to remember the occasion in the beautifully maintained gardens that overlook the sea. All of this ensured that my parents enjoyed a wonderful and memorable day. Thank you to all concerned.

We recently had the pleasure of spending an afternoon here for my daughter’s birthday. The food was excellent and piping hot and the service was outstanding. Bearing in mind it was mother’s day and full capacity I wasn’t expecting great things. My daughter was over the moon and said it was her best birthday. I cannot recommend highly enough. Just a big thank you to all at The Hydro.

We spent two lovely nights in the Hydro and on our first day we were welcomed with a Sussex cream tea in the conservatory which overlooks the gardens and sea. We had a lovely room with a sea view. The gardens are beautifully kept and the whole place and area is spotlessly clean. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious with a superb selection of cold and hot meals. Would recommend this hotel to all our friends.
