Our visit was enjoyed with two other couples as part of a weekend deal and although our rooms faced inland, they were of a high decorative standard and finish with everything we needed. Reception staff were attentive and efficient. Restaurant and bar staff all appeared happy in their work and with their colleagues company. Assisting each other as well as the guests. One of our party requested a cushion on the first visit to the dining room and it was there each subsequent occasion. A small touch but much appreciated and demonstrated an attention to detail.

We have just returned from a perfect break. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so memorable. Room was great with a beautiful sea view and the garden and pool so inviting that we spend most of the time there rather than going around Eastbourne.

Just returned from another short break at the Hydro Hotel in Eastbourne. As usual everything was first class, especially all the wonderful staff who are always very friendly and happy to help. Rooms immaculate, and food beautifully cooked and presented. The garden has just been given a revamp and is even better than it was before.

Hope to be returning soon.

We decided to try the Hydro Hotel having read some very favourable reviews. I really must say we were so pleased we did. From the moment we stepped into the foyer/reception area, to the moment we left, was a joy. I don't think the staff could have been more helpful. Our room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel in general. The food, we found to be exceptional, and what we particularly liked were the lounge areas (in plural) where you can enjoy a drink and coffee to finish off the evening. I would not hesitate in returning to the Hydro again.

Booked in for a short stay and asked for a room with a sea view, we weren’t disappointed beautiful view of the garden and sea.
On arrival when checking in we were ignored for a few minutes, the handyman had to tell the receptionist that customers were waiting, slightly disappointing start.
The general feel of the hotel is lovely and very traditional, almost felt as though we were transported back in time, expected Hercule Poirot to appear.
Room ok , a bit basic but generally clean apart from quite a few cobwebs in the corners of all the windows. Good information folder regarding the hotel, and all amenities as you would expect. As we were dining in the crystal restaurant in the evening and meeting my sister in law there we thought we would have a cocktail before dinner, went to the “cocktail bar “ and couldn’t see the cocktail menu asked the bar man if they did cocktails and his response was “ naaaah” and that was it. So a glass of wine it was. Food in the restaurant very good, staff rushed us quite a lot though which got to be a bit irritating, the restaurant wasn’t full so couldn’t understand this. Breakfast in the restaurant very good, different staff in the morning and a totally better experience. On checking out our bill showed items bought in the” cocktail bar”, I would suggest the reference to a cocktail bar removed or better still serve cocktails. It is totally the right type of hotel to serve them. Also at the time of our stay a new patio was being laid and the steps down to the patio barricaded by a few chairs, to most this was apparent why this had been done but to a few ignorant guests they ignored the chairs and went down the steps only to not see a wire by the edge a trip over it and fall. This was mentioned to a member of staff by myself and expecting some kind of better notice to be placed at the top of the steps, but it wasn’t, the chairs were just placed back at the top of the steps.
Overall we had a lovely time there and would recommend it but a few minor tweaks here and there.

We stayed at the Hydro on a Travelzoo offer and it completely exceeded all our expectations. We knew that by booking this offer we would be allocated the ‘cheapest’ rooms, which we were, however, despite the room being extremely small and overlooking the road, we still thought we got a good deal and it was spotlessly clean (kudos to the Housekeeping team). The only downside was the reception staff who were all a bit unwelcoming and not very smiley, but all the other members of staff were extremely friendly and were a credit to the hotel.
Overall, a great stay in a great location.

Very small room. Normal size double bed.. Very clean. Only one bedside light. Poor wifi. Poor tv signal
On the plus side, all the staff were great. Breakfast was really good. Beautiful interior downstairs.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon and checked in. We had paid extra for a sea view and though we had one it was not the panoramic one my husband wanted. Jordan the receptionist was lovely and though we were unable to move that day shemoved us the next day and we did not have to do it ourselves they took the luggage for us. The rooms were modern, clean airy in fact we could not find fault. The towels were lovely fluffy and white, I am not slim but the bath sheets were more than big enough for me.The bed was great, we have a king size at home but this was bigger still. It was busy but not crowded plenty of space to move around,a lovely conservatory where we had a Sussex tea. All the people who worked at the hotel were helpful and friendly whilst being professional. Our waitress Paulina was great nothing was too much for her, but then all of them were like that. We would stay there again without doubt and would recommend it to anyone. It is not in the centre of Eastbourne but we did not mind as we had our car and the centre is only 5 minutes by road. I would give this hotel 5 stars for service and value, and we slept really well.

My husband & l returned from yet another super break at The Hydro earlier this week. Despite the miserable weather, we had a great time.

This is a hotel where we are able to 'get away from it all' and enjoy total rest and relaxation. The atmosphere is wonderful, the service excellent, and the rooms are extremely comfortable.

We were allocated room 108 on this most recent break. We've stayed in this particular room on a couple of previous occasions and have found it quiet & spacious enough for the two of us. It has a side sea view which we prefer. The large windows can be opened to allow fresh air in. Heavy curtains block out the light to ensure a good night's sleep. There are also sun blinds but on this occasion they were not needed!

We were offered a special deal this time. We got a four night stay for the price of a three night one with breakfast and dinner included. On arrival, we received vouchers for drinks which we collected from the bar before going into the dining room each evening. We also had a complimentary afternoon tea on our first afternoon.

My husband & l recognised several staff members from our previous visits. This is an indication that The Hydro is a happy place for them to work & they choose to stay.

On arrival at reception on our first day, we handed in pre-paid vouchers for two daily newspapers. These were delivered to our room early each morning. We spent an hour or so reading them in one of the lounges after breakfast before setting out for the day.

There are so many wonderful places to visit around the Eastbourne area including several National Trust properties. The resort itself has many attractions for all ages but the poor weather during this most recent visit ruled out most of them.

We'll definitely be returning to our favourite Eastbourne hotel later in the year. Please will you have us back Mr. Owen?

Whilst I didn’t stay here, I wanted to share what a lovely experience we had celebrating a family anniversary here. It’s a real gem of a place with beautiful greens and the most fantastic view over the sea. The facilities (restaurant, bar, toilets and baby change) were all very clean and there was a considerable amount of room for changing toddler which is very important when you have one! Parking is free and easy, staff polite and very helpful and the function rooms were good too. My only criticism if I had one was that I was much too hot! Otherwise a wonderful visit, thank you

We had an afternoon tea deal, lovely . Plenty of spaces to enjoy this treat. Room is modern, clean and a good size. We had a lovely sea view. Seems Hotel has been well made over , but room TV is tiny . Breakfast was very good although too long a wait for it to arrive. Location and parking are at West end of town, so bit of a walk in , but doable, parking is easy. Wifi . worked well .( Fire alarm at 7-15am ! , hopefully isolated )

Approached hotel to enquire about hosting a funeral reception for the following week. Jonathan was so helpful and friendly and went out of his way to suggest the Conservatory, in order to be able to accommodate some of the guests who might be in wheelchairs. On the day, the room looked beautiful and of course the view outside of the gardens and the sea were exquisite. Hannah and the team were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed overnight in the hotel too and loved the calming atmosphere. A perfect venue for us - thanks all at the Hydro for turning a sad occasion into as pleasant an experience as was possible for us all.

Stayed with friends for one night. Lovely independent hotel at a reasonable price in walking distance of the pier. Breakfast was good and it was most enjoyable to have breakfast served you rather than a buffet. If you are a late riser you'll miss the breakfast though.

Our 3rd stay this year, this time we stayed for 2 nights, as it was a birthday we asked for a certain room and this we got (many thanks to the person on the desk for arranging this). Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We always book a seaview as we find the rooms to be that much bigger. We will always return to the Hydro when visiting Eastbourne which we do quite frequently to visit family and friends.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Hydro. This time we arrived late in the evening and the lady at the front desk was so helpful and found as a lovely room with a sea view! We found everything perfect in the room with the exception of the bed which seemed short...
Breakfast was just perfect! Service friendly and efficient.
As the sun was shining we decided to have a walk in the garden before heading off. We could see other people out there enjoying the sea views and doing this too. This was very pleasant and we looked at the hotel pool as we planned another stay later on on the year! Disappointingly when we tried the door of the conservatory we were chastised by a rather unfriendly Irish gentleman - I believe he was the bar and lounge manager - as we tried to get back in, telling us the gardens were not open and didn't we realise that the weather had been awful? The door had been open when we ventured out I have to say and no signs said that the gardens were closed. I felt like a naughty child. He could have been more polite and said something like - 'Sorry Madam, Sir, we have closed off the gardens just for the moment due to the poor weather. The door should have been locked. Would you like to come back in now into the warm?' This spoilt what was a lovely stay. I hope this gentleman takes note of how to treat his clients....

We have just returned home after spending 2 nights at this hotel..our room 123which was a classic double booked on booking.com...what to say grim ...very small room as a third taken up by bathroom which made it cramped outlook through window grim big steel girder as part of fire escape on left on right large tubes and air conditioning units
Complained to receptionist first night no reaction ..in the morning asked to change rooms as unable to sleep so hot in room unable to open windows security issue with fire escape. We were offered 3 rooms as alternative choose room 1 much better had a good nights sleep. Overall hotel...lovely clean staff helpful pleasant breakfast really good would stay again but would inspect room before payment taken

This is a typical Eastbourne hotel great location just 3 mins walk to the beach and pier very quiet we had a sea view room lovely
We had afternoon tea Sussex tea hot scones clotted cream and tiptree jam with an endless pot of tea in the conservatory overlooking the green and sea
Dinner in the crystal room at 19:30 there is a dress code smart casual and jacket no shorts jeans and t shirts which is nice with a pianist playing with respect on first impressions it looked a bit like gods waiting room as the evening went on that changed the food was of a good standard the quality off the steaks were very good sirloin confusionover what is medium well and medium rare was resolved very quickly freash steak and chips cooked to perfection
Breakfast was a hive of activity the hotel gave you free Easter eggs what a nice touch
Alison was very attentive with a great sense of humour we sat in the orangery
Would we stay again defiantly

Things are changing at the Hydro, beautiful additions to the already lovely garden make it ideal for a special occasion, and all year round short breaks. Things that don't change are the traditional warm welcome, excellent service, outstanding views and great choice of rooms and suites. Garden games available and an outdoor swimming pool for those who like sunbathing and cooling off. All reasons why we have continued to stay at this hotel for many years.

We stayed here for two nights just before the Easter break. The hotel was very clean and felt Victorian. My son was at least 5 decades younger than any other guest in the hotel!! But there is nothing wrong with that. The room was spacious and had a lovely sea view one afternoon, as mist came down for the rest of our stay. Very comfortable mattress, twin room. The teas and coffees were restocked each day which doesn’t usually happen. Not far from the start of the South Downs way and a two mile walk to the beachy head pub, I think it must be the closest, but this does mean it is a 20-ish Minute walk to the pier etc. It was quiet though.
The breakfast was in a grand room, continental as a small buffet and hot to order, this came within 10 mins. Very nice pain au chocolat. The lift looked very old considering how many people used it!! Parking: there is parking in a small car park but we found it filled up quickly, but there is a lot of on street parking around the hotel which we made do with. Overall a very pleasant trip to Eastbourne, would stay again.
