2 day mid week break on this visit. Wish it could have been longer. We have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 20 years and it never disappoints. Lovely sea view room. Great staff. Lovely food.

The Hydro hotel in Eastbourne is a lovely place to stay. My friend and I were in need of R and R which was exactly the result of our stay. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and polite. We received an upgrade to a room with a side sea view which also provided a panoramic view of the town. Parking for my disabled friend was perfect. The room was clean and very comfortable. We took breakfast and evening meals at the hotel. Food was beautifully cooked and presented and service was attentive without being intrusive. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a peaceful break and will definitely visit again.

Just returned from a very enjoyable and good value break. The newly refurbished bedroom was a delight - clean, comfortable, tastefully modern and well equipped. The fridge will be especially useful when I return in the summer.
The tea and teacake on arrival and evening drink included were very welcome and appreciated extras.
Usually I just have b and b but booked dinner this time as it was only for 3 nights. I went into the restaurant with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. The food was well presented on very hot (and very large plates for average sized portions). Must say however, that I do like vegetables a lot and these days only a very small amount is incorporated into the the main course. Hence I make alternative arrangements for dinner when I stay for a week in the summer.
I was seated near the entrance to the restaurant and could easily hear guests speaking to staff when arriving for dinner. The 15 minute time slot was being enforced and twice I heard guests arriving only a couple of minutes early being told to go away and come back in a little while. There were only 6 or 7 tables occupied and plenty of staff on duty. This, I feel, doesn't give a good impression - surely a little discretion could be used.
Otherwise the staff in the hotel are lovely and cater for guests' needs splendidly.
I look forward to enjoying the garden next time and seeing how the new planting is coming along - and if removing some of the high hedge let's in a lot more of the prevailing westerly sea breezes!

At the last minute we decided to have a couple of days away and having been to Eastbourne before we chose the Hydro Hotel as it had some good offers. What a great choice we made. Our room was immaculate, the hotel staff were so friendly, polite and efficient and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is spotless and the lounge area ideal for just relaxing. The location of the hotel is ideal for walking into town, where there are many lovely restaurants. The theatre is also within walking distance and being so close to Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters it is ideally located for some spectacular longer walks. Parking is easy and having enjoyed it so much we have already booked to go back for another couple of nights in 3 weeks time! Would certainly recommend.

We booked one of the Hydro’s Spring breaks for three nights from Sunday through to Wednesday. However, the forecast was for snow on the Sunday and, not wanting to get trapped by the snow, asked the hotel if we could come a day early. They went out of their way to find us a room for the Saturday night, at a reduced rate, even though they had lots on. So when we arrived we were treated like VIP’s and had the most wonderful time. The staff were excellent, as was the food in the Crystal Restaurant, both our room on the Saturday night and our suite, which we moved to on the Sunday, had sea views, and excellent decor and very comfortable beds. We will be back and booking a Spring Break again next year! We wholeheartedly recommend the Hydro!

Despite arriving on an extremely chilly day, the hotel was warm with friendly staff to greet us. The room was lovely, and well serviced and food excellent.
Can recommend the cream tea here and will certainly be staying again.

Side sea view twin room with comfortable beds. Both the bedroom and bathroom were v well heated, clean and perfectly suited to a short break. The wifi and television were a little troublesome but attention will be given to this matter by the hotel management and reception staff were helpful in dealing with it as far as they could. I have stayed several times in this hotel and have not experienced such an issue before and believe the recent external works may have disturbed cabling/wiring perhaps?

lovely rooms, friendly and helpful staff, warm and homely atmosphere with a touch of class. We came together with Granny to give her a treat and she thoroughly enjoyed it. The meals were excellent, the rooms very clean. Life pianist on Saturday during dinner a special treat. We always enjoy the unique décor around all the bar areas at the Hydro.

I took my mother for mothers day afternoon tea and from the moment we arrived we were looked after, no waiting, extreme kindness and service. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were delicious and beautifully presented and we had our own name card on the table. Thank you all so very much for making the afternoon so delightful and relaxing for us both.

We were all very warmly received in the restaurant and sat down to a most enjoyable three course lunch for a group of 60 of us. The staff were very attentive and the food and level of service was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary by staying in one of their suites for 2 nights and had a family meal/party for 19 in the Orangery (just off the main restaurant).

The suite and food were excellent and the staff, especially Francisco, were very attentive and helpful. We had a really enjoyable time and will definitely recommend the hotel for stays and functions to our friends and hope to go back ourselves very soon.

This isn't the first time our club has held its annual awards dinner at the Hydro, however it was my first time organising the event. Thanks to the responsive and conscientious preparation by the events department ahead of the night and the rest of the team on the night itself the evening went very smoothly.

The food was delicious and was served promptly. By all accounts, everyone had a great time and I am sure we will be returning to the Hydro in future.

Fabulous tea, fabulous service and a gentle faded elegance. Very relaxing. The cream cakes were very good, as were the sandwiches. The staff kept us topped up with fizz... they were delightful. Loved the feel of the place. On a Monday lunch/ afternoon it was busy... they know where to go in Eastbourne for tea.

On arrival at this hotel we found the ground floor, reception area and restaurants to be dated but with a lovely warm atmosphere with lots of guests sat around reading, chatting and drinking, lovely.
We were pleasantly surprised having Benn given a complimentary upgrade, thank you.
On entering the room we found it satisfactory but dissapointed with the bathroom which was very small. Who did the bathroom tiling a child could do better and where bath tap was dripping there was a calcium stain on the bath definitely not up to 4* rating.
The following day we arrived back to the hotel in the late afternoon and found the room cold and no heating on, phoned reception a number of times and when they eventually answered they informed I'd that the heating goes on at 5pm !!!!
As we are not late eaters we decided to have a meal in the hotels conservatory restaurant, serving from 1730hrs only to be informed that the restaurant was closed to guest's do to a function and also there was no room service due to this function.
Was also advised that it was to late to book a table for there main restaurant.
It would have been nice of the hotel to inform guests when restaurant and availability of food would not be available.
That is a shame because the breakfast was excellent and the waiting staff excellent, but not for reception staff. Failed to ask if everything had been satisfactory when checking out.
This hotel lacks professionalism and I think it is only a 3*

We spent a couple of nights at this lovely hotel recently and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. From the moment we checked in we were very well looked after. The bedroom was spotless, well furnished and had a stunning sea view. The menu was excellent with plenty of variety. This is a hotel that has a lot going for it, excellent location, plenty of parking ( a rarity these days and particularly in Eastbourne) and above all pleasant staff. It may have the look of faded splendour especially in the reception areas but it is none the worse for that. It is unusual to find a hotel these days that is properly run by people who know what they are doing. We hope to return soon!

Last visited here 31 years ago on our marriage night. Return visit lived up to expectations in every way. This time we stayed for 3 nights (now slightly better off) and could find no fault with hotel or staff. Lovely memories thank you. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Very much enjoyed our vegan afternoon tea at the Hydro last week. Tea consisted of a selection of finger sandwiches with salad fillings, a lovely light vegan scone served with strawberry jam and vegan margarine, and 3 delicious cakes - lemon polenta, flapjack and chocolate brownie, accompanied by plenty of tea.
Would recommend as a venue for a vegan tea, we had booked in advance with our dietary requirements. Thank you

First time we have stayed at the Hydro and it exceeded all of our expectations. For a start it has a sensible size car park. One of the main things we look for when booking a hotel. Down the pier end one has a choice of on road parking if your are lucky. The hotel has a lot of work going on at the moment so the scaffolding doesn't do it any favours.
On going inside the entrance foyer is beautiful. So bright and welcoming, The room we had was very comfortable and roomy as was the bathroom. Beds were comfortable. The whole place was spotless. The dining room was bright and roomy too and the staff were exceptional. Would highly recommend this hotel and we would go back there.

This was our third stay at the Hydro, and each time I have felt I have got a good deal through Travelzoo. Included this time was a cream tea and the breakfast, as well as a 1 night stay. The beds are so comfortable and there are plentiful pillows and a cushion to make your sleep as restful as possible. We were upgraded to a sea view room which was a lovely surprise on checking in. The food here is excellent, both at dinner and breakfast and it was good to see the lounge so full with people taking afternoon tea. This hotel is perfect for those wanting to visit the Sussex Downs, the pier or to take in a meal in the town centre as everything is nearby. The staff at the hotel are excellent and willing to help with any queries. We were initially put in a double room and asked to move to a twin and this was done straight away. I'm sure we'll be back. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

Stayed Saturday only on Travel Zoo offer which included a lovely cream tea taken in the conservatory and a sumptuous breakfast to start Sunday off with. Cosy room with a side sea view .It was like going back in time. All staff friendly. Nice area 20min walk to town centre. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would return if the offer surfaces again.

I have no complaints about this hotel situated on the cliff at Eastbourne it offers spectacular views of the sea - we have woken to beautiful sunrises and have seen spectacular sunsets - the rooms are well equipped with all necessary extras including fridge hairdryer tea making facilities (with a variety to choose from) and of course coffee. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished and a big bonus is that all windows open!!!
I have stayed here on 3 occasions in the last couple of months and each time the staff have provided excellent service I would not hesitate in choosing ‘The Hydro’ for any future overnight stays whether business or pleasure.
