The hotel is very nice, the staff were friendly and very helpful, our room was clean and tidy, had a good evening meal and a very good breakfast.
Parking is easy there is a car park but if its full the surrounding roads are quite ans easy to park in.

The Christmas luncheon for 74 people was held on Friday in the Garden Room. NARPO have had a Christmas and Spring lunch here every year for many years which have always been very enjoyable, hence the continued use of The Hydro. This luncheon definitely surpassed all others. From the first meeting with the events office to walking out of the door at the end of the day everything was impeccable including an excellent meal. Many compliments have been received which I attribute to The Hydro. Thank you to Jonathan, the general manager and all his staff for making this such an enjoyable lunch.

Arranged a Masonic Ladies Night for 102 guests in the Garden Suit.
The Events Team organised everything I asked for. Nothing appeared to be a problem or too much trouble. Lots of advice and guidance. Made for a relaxing evening.
The main meal, sirloin of beef, was beautifully cooked, presented and served by friendly and efficient staff.
My wife and I stayed the night in a sea view room. It was clean and tidy with toiletries supplied together with tea/herbal tea/coffee/chocolate and biscuits and, most importantly, a comfortable bed.
The breakfast selection was good and tasty and included a full English.
All in all, a great time.
The staff were professional, polite, friendly and helpful.
I would be more than happy to arrange another event at the Hydro Hotel.

We have visited the Hydro before and rate it highly enough to feel confident in booking any special occasion there. This weekend was planned to be one such occasion but circumstances changed our plans somewhat. We were meant to enjoy a short break celebrating a 75 year friendship between my husband and his old school friend. Sadly his friend was unwell at the last minute and unable to join us. That said, we were still able to have a good few days owing to the comfort, efficiency and excellent service offered by all at Hydro. Our room overlooked the sea and had extensive views. It was large and well furnished. I was somewhat surprised by the tiny television though, from the bed I could barely read the screen as it was not much bigger than my laptop. I can imagine that younger people would expect better these days. The bathroom was quite small but very well equipped. The restaurant was even better than we remembered and the choices on the menu made choosing dinner quite difficult as they all sounded so tempting. Breakfast was great too and the friendliness in the restaurant is very welcoming. All in all this hotel has a great ambiance and it is easy to see why it still remains one of Eastbourne’s finest. We very much hope to return and actually enjoy that cancelled celebration one day soon!

Decided to have 1 night at this local recently( for my wife's 79th birthday treat) upgraded hotel to 4*;am local so aware of it for years .Excellent sea view room well appointed and breakfast following morning BUT confused on style of dinner-just bland white rolls-seafood mushed up in a dumpling for starters ;main course had all its listed veg pureed up with only 1 small strand of leek which left as too tough to chew let alone cut up. Why on earth go to all that trouble/time/effort with veg when could be put on plate as cooked/steamed??
What did concern me was that the lights for the small lift had no indicator lights working and more worrying the fire exit light was also unlit-have since heard from the Manager due to be looked at/dealt with in December-not good enough for such basic safety to be left untouched -have no idea how long both issues left untouched??
At reception no Employers Liability Insurance Certificate put on wall-it is law.
Think only 1/3 full as a rough guess-lets hope ALL dealt with by xmas time with huge seasonal surcharges applied.
Large conservatory which very popular .Lovely grounds with swimming pool for summer use.-all facing South.
Plenty of onsite parking -when full street parking everywhere-free.
Could well be other fire exit doors with same problem-no idea as to see 1 unlit was quite enough..

I booked this Hotel almost by chance, although we have stayed in Eastbourne before ,its been right on the seafront in a busy position and i was looking for something a little further from the pier area. Google maps showed me where the Hydro Hotel was so i looked harder. Trip Advisor has always helped me make my mind up and the more i read the more i was drawn in to what the Hydro seemed to offer. Without a doubt it is one of the nicest hotels i/we have ever stayed in.The staff are the most considerate people you could ever come across, every one of them, from the receptionists to the waiting/bar staff seemed intent on making ones stay happy cheerful and comfortable. The food was superb, good choices, well presented and lovingly bought to your table, dinners in the Chrystal room were an experience, breakfasts were wonderful. We stayed in room 128, not the largest room in the place and without a sea view but the most comfortable bed i have had for many a year, table and chairs by the window just right ,an adequate wardrobe and good drawer space. The Hydro is located just off south cliff rd in a good position quite high looking down toward the prom and pier. We walked into town one afternoon and it took us just 20 mins to get to the pier (just a stroll) We thank John and his team for a really nice stay at this charming Hotel. A special thanks to the staff we don,t see the kitchen/catering workers and the all important housemaids. This is a Hotel that will not let you down.

So good to go to a hotel where you are really made to feel welcome. Staff are very professional but friendly and they really look after you. We had a lovely room with a fantastic view. This hotel is excellent for starting the walks over the Downs and the location is a beautiful part of Eastbourne. Food and service in the restaurant is excellent.

We have been going to the Hydro hotel for the last 7 years and found the same excellent service every time. The rooms are very well presented and clean, the lounge is excellent for a quick snack or a slightly bigger meal, the main restaurant has a very good and varied menu, the food is well cooked and nicely presented, the breakfast is complete with much on offer including a full breakfast. The staff are most helpful, looking forward to going again next year.

I arrived very late at the hotel, but was greeted by the night porter who showed me to my lovely room with a sea view. I hadn't requested this, so that was a lovely bonus.

The hotel has an old school, relaxed feel. There is a convenient car park for disabled visitors as well as able bodied.

The breakfast was good, with hot and cold options. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We have a hectic life and the Hydro Hotel was just the place to unwind. From the moment we stepped into the lobby we felt relaxed. Great staff who were always ready to help. Although this was our first visit, everyone treated us as if we were regulars.
Food and service in both the main restaurant and the Conservatory was exemplary and the chef put himself out to ensure our special dietary requirements were catered for.
Room was clean and tidy and well maintained throughout our stay.
We will be back.

I hosted a group reunion of old friends at this hotel recently. The arrangements were made well in advance with the events team who were very helpful and arranged everything I has asked for without any problems.
Of the 16 guests not one had any complaints about their stay. They all remarked on how good the hotel was.
This is a classic English hotel with excellent old fashioned service. All the staff were very polite, did their respective jobs efficiently and with a smile.

I stayed in the Downlands Suite, which was a “proper” suite with en-suite facilities, a large bedroom, a separate very comfortable lounge with unobstructed views over the sea.
The conservatory and bar area was very popular with well proportioned snacks at lunchtime. Afternoon tea was an event in itself with tiered cakes and sandwiches. I noticed that many of the visitors were local people, which speak volumes in a town that has many large hotels to choose from.
The main restaurant food was hot, very fresh and appetising. Again the service was excellent.
The immaculate croquet lawn and Union Jack flying from the flag pole sums up this unique hotel.
You should visit.

My husband and I have just enjoyed a wonderful lunch today with a very fascinating talk on the gunpowder plot given by a very knowledgeable gentleman. The luncheon was excellent in every way consisting of three courses. These luncheons appear to be very popular and well attended. The service was very good by the waiters and waitresses who were very polite and attended to us very well. We sat on table F and the other two couples who were on our table with us were very nice we all got on really well. Hydro you have excelled again thank you very much.

long ago I lived in Eastbourne. So when I brought my wife for a visit I wanted to show her the best of the town.surely ,The Hydro is perfectly located in the meads area ,with views of the southdowns, this is everything Eastbourne should be.the guests tend to be on the elderly side, but the charming staff the ambience the good reasonably priced food are all excellent. Our suite had unbelievable views of the ocean, front and the downs and was impeccably turned-out.I thought that the Grand would be the place to stay, but my cousin, who still lives in eastbourne insisted on the Hydro.Five stars.

My partner and I booked 3 nights here.
At all times staff were attentive, polite, and courteous.
The hotel is clean and both rooms we stayed in were clean and nicely presented.
Towels/bedlinen spotlessly clean.
Toiletries supplied.
Tea/coffee/hot choc/herbal teas/biscuits supplied.
For our fourth night we were fortunate enough to get the third floor headland suite which had a nice extra lounge with a lovely sea view.
Breakfast selection good, tasty, and varied.
Will definitely look forward to a return visit.
My only comment would be that both rooms were so warm I could not sleep comfortably in the bed.
I slept on top with t shirt and shorts on
But I often do at home so maybe just me?
Really enjoyable stay.
Thank you.

Wonderful views of the sea and lovely croquet lawn from our large comfortable bedroom/sitting room. The ensuite bathroom is modern and very well appointed. We've been returning for the last ten years and enjoy the warm atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the very good restaurant. Well situated to reach the town, theatre and the pier. Also close to places of interest such as Brighton, Lewes, and Alfriston.

The two of us returned to The Hydro for our third short break in eighteen months. The hotel is like a magnet - we can't keep away!

Since our last visit in March, a great deal of money has been spent on refurbishment and decoration, both inside and out.

We had booked a side seaview room and this time we were allocated 108 on the first floor. It turned out to be quite spacious for the two of us and, more importantly, had fully opening windows to let the fresh air in. The windows had internal sun blinds, as well as pretty new curtains.

Every room has a speedy wifi connection. This is free of charge unlike some hotels that we have stayed in. Fluffy white towels are changed every day. The adjustable shower over the bath is most efficient.

The public rooms here are wonderful, straight from a 'Downton Abbey' set. There are several lounges with comfortable armchairs and tables. There is even a selection of books in one of them that can be borrowed by guests. The conservatory overlooking the sea is the ideal place to sit and enjoy a coffee, afternoon tea or a light snack. There is a hair salon within the hotel too.

There are comfortable seats around the perimeter of the lawn and a swimming pool at the seaward end. We watched guests playing croquet on the lawn during an earlier visit.

The Crystal Dining Room is magnificent with high ceilings and chandeliers. We were delighted to see five staff members here that we recognised from earlier visits. Three of them even remembered us! The menus for breakfast and dinner are extensive with something to please all tastes. We found the service excellent. The staff members could not have been more helpful.

On our last morning, when a large party of guests touring with an arts group came in for breakfast all at the same time, we noticed the hotel manager, Mr. Owen, helping to clear tables so that no guest had to wait too long to be served. Well done!

The only down side of this latest Hydro stay was that it wasn't long enough. Please will you have us back?

Visiting the Hydro was a last minute birthday treat and it was well worth it. We booked a classic double room, but received a complimentary upgrade to a side room with a sea view. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable and allowed us to relax. Even with the windows open, the room was quiet. Our evening meal did not disappoint - a beautifully cooked sirloin of beef and a white chocolate creme brulee to die for! Breakfast the next morning was also wonderful and the service was friendly and attentive. This hotel is a real gem. It's the first time we've visited and we will certainly return!

We booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary break. The booking was for the Autumn dinner bed and breakfast deal which we booked for 2 nights. We arranged our stay using the hotels own website. Our credit card details were taken and confirmation sent. On arriving to the hotel after battling through Friday night traffic we were informed that a booking had not been made. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and after a lot of time looking at her computer screen and a brief conversation with the duty manager ( who seemed quite uninterested) she booked us in to an upgraded room,
The room allocated 104 had a side view room nicely decorated but extremely small for 4 star hotel . As the evening was now getting late we went straight to the restaurant for our 3 course meal which was OK but nothing to rave about.
When we mentioned to the hotel that we thought the room was very small we got no response just that it had aside view.
Dinner on the second night was good but the service absolutely appalling. We waited an unacceptable time for our food and again on pointing this out was told oh we are busy, NOT GOOD ENOUGH,
Breakfast service again was slow, staff more interested in clearing tables for the next service rather than getting breakfast out on time.
On departure we were overcharged for the cream tea we had which was part of the deal.
The Hydro hotel is in a nice position in Eastbourne although a walk away from the main area, It is a shame that i wont be returning due to all the annoying problems we incurred with little sympathy from staff.

My husband and I booked four nights at the Hydro in September on an Autumn Break. We booked a Seaview Room which was perfect with sea and downs view. The room had been recently updated with new bathroom and a good size. There was plenty of seating in the various lounges if you wanted to just relax, a beautiful conservatory which served delicious afternoon teas or light lunches, which was very popular with local residents. All in all catered very well for mature guests. The crystal room was for more formal dining, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Once again the food was good.
