We go every year for Christmas with family and friends. We go into the orangery.

This year I went for the duck, unfortunately it was undercooked and very bloody which personally I don't like.

The waiter took it away and brought me back a roasty with all the trimmings. You could tell they made the extra effort after that.

The Assam Tea Planter's Reunion was held in the hotel and I have stayed in the hotel twice. The ambience is delightful - just as it was in Britain's far-off better days - and the staff and management are very friendly and helpful, and my thanks to them for a very pleasant stay. I very much look forward to coming here again in 2016.

What a fantastic night this was and all 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Chris Anderson serenaded the restaurant with "rat pack" songs and then transformed into the DJ to get everybody on the dance floor. He was excellent at both tasks and had a lovely singing voice.
The food was excellent and our waiter, Paolo, was a delight. A nice surprise was that the house wine was very good and reasonably priced at £16.95 per bottle.
We are looking forward to next year's event with eager anticipation!
Thank you for a lovely early Christmas celebration evening.

We have been here twice for afternoon tea. Both times the atmosphere was very good.
The restaurant was busy both times. The service was very good from the staff at reception to the waiting staff in the restaurant. It was great to see the manager walking around the restaurant talking to customers. The seating around the lobby and into the dining room is cosy and nice and warm. Seating in the conservatory/dining area is nicely set out with plenty of room round your table, you certainly don't feel cramped. The views out into the garden and beyond out to sea is very relaxing.
Afternoon tea and sandwiches/ cream scones etc very well presented and tasted great also very reasonably priced. All in all well worth the experience, I would recommend a visit here, better than the Grand without a doubt

This hotel / restaurant is pretty popular, good idea to book in advance. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is service in the old fashioned way, maybe not young peoples taste but certainly ours. The menu was quite extensive, the service could not be faulted, clean plates at the end showed our appreciation. We certainly will return.

Truly love the Hydro, and was very disappointed that our groups lunch there was let down by over enthusiastic service and a lack of understanding in the case of a vegetarian in our party. Pre-meal unfinished drinks were cleared away and gone before we could stop them; pulled crackers taken before we'd even removed the contents and if you are going to ask recipients how they would like their coffee, then listen to what they say please and do as requested. Maybe small points and we could add to the list, but they shouldn't happen. As for our vegetarian, does no-one consider whether the vegetables offered actually go with the vegetarian option? Why no roast potatoes for them, when all the other vegetables were deemed acceptable for their only option? This is a lovely hotel, please don't let little things like this creep in and spoil it, and yes we do understand that everyone has to learn, but.......

My husband and I had a fabulous evening listening to the Easy Beat orchestra with an excellent two course meal. The orchestra were brilliant and we will definitely attend any further concerts in Eastbourne. The food was delicious and the service was first class. We stayed overnight in a lovely comfortable room with a fantastic views looking out to sea. Breakfast was again excellent with plenty on offer and very attentive serving staff. Check out was quick and efficient.

Booked this through Travelzoo, so price was very reasonable. Didn't have a full
sea-view, but could still see part of it. Very comfortable room. Had an evening
meal in the deal which was excellent and the staff very attentive.
All in all a lovely welcoming hotel, which we love going to.

We only stayed one night, and a wet November one at that, but we could have done a lot worse. it's right on the edge of town up a hill but it's an easy walk to the town centre, about a mile or so.

The Hydro looks a lot better inside than you would imagine from its rather drab exterior. It is sort of what you would expect from a hotel in Eastbourne - lots of wood panelling, acres of space, a mainly aged clientele - but it carries it off with a bit of panache. The bedroom we had (partial sea view) was spacious and airy and with a great view, there's acres of chairs to sit in downstairs and the staff were really friendly and obliging. Oh, and the breakfast was also good.

Possibly a little pricy, but there were deals on offer and we could be persuaded to go back.

The Hydro seems past its prime, but is still nice. It has a nice open space with plenty of comfortable chairs and couches to meet and visit. The breakfast is traditional and served by waiters that know the regular visitors by name and by habit. The bathroom of my room was renovated, the room it self was nice and comfortable but caters more to people that need a vanity mirror rather than space to set up a laptop. It would have been nice if new windows would have been put in. It got really cold at night and the heating was turned down centrally.

We have been visiting the Hydro Hotel for many years now, staying twice a year and yet again they have exceeded our expectations... The standard of cleanliness and decor are of high standards throughout the hotel, nothing is ever to much trouble for any member of staff especially Hannah, who has always gone above and beyond to make our stay run smoothly...
We are particularly impressed this stay with the new restaurant menu, having a wide and varied choice of excellent foods!
Thank You All at the Hydro Hotel looking forward to seeing you on our next stay...

The selling point of this hotel is its staff. There maybe areas of the hotel a little tired but the staff are top notch. The rooms are clean and beds are very comfortable, tea and coffee in rooms with good biscuits. Restaurant food was very good and excellent breakfast but don't ask for a poached egg. Fresh scone with cream and pot if Tea £5 very reasonable. we had a great weekend. Looked at other rooms and he views were great as were the rooms.

I do like the Hydro hotel for several reasons. First of all it is clean. Secondly they are very well located walking distance from the coastline. Furthermore they have a free parking. The people are very friendly. The food is excellent and the price quality is extremely good for Eastbourne area. They serve fresh made breakfast. I visit Eastbourne once a month for business reasons and this is really one of my favourite hotels. In the summer when it is hot it can be an issue as there is no air conditioning in the rooms.

We visited this hotel as part of a dancing party weekend. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room, whilst fairly small was sufficient. The hotel seemed very over-heated, but the weather at the time was quite mild for the time of year. Nice areas to sit during the day. Close to the sea front, good for walks, although if you walk into town its quite a steep walk back up again. We thought drink prices were reasonable, although we did not have much to drink. Very strange though if you wanted a late night tipple at the end of the evening there is no-one serving in the bar, so there was a missed opportunity by the hotel to make some sales. The hotel has a good reputation in the local area as told by several people we spoke to. The hotel is quite old, but has some character. We would return again for a weekend break.

We had a Ladies Festival Weekend ( Friday to Sunday)at this hotel, the rooms where every good in decoration and presentation food on the Friday night was excellent and enjoined by all as was the banquet on the Saturday night it was said food to die for, all breakfast's where most enjoyable plenty of choice.

Some of the party stayed a further night and the evening meal went down hill sad to say ( it was thought the chef was off)

An elderly hotel with many niggles, for instance the wardrobe is not tall enough to accommodate a long dress or coat and the hangers are of the bar type so can't be hooked onto a dado rail, the shower was weak, Internet connection lasted for 10 minutes then dropped, mobile service was not good with plenty of dead zones. The public areas were over heated, our double bed was 2 singles not even pushed together. Food was poor overall, poached eggs over cooked, most food seemed as tho prepared or plated much earlier and reheated. £16 for 2 pints and 2 small lime and sodas was excessive. however there lots of positives - the complimentary maltesers in the room were most welcome, service was good across the board, cleanliness was to a high standard, we had a sea view and really good nights sleep, the walk into town is not too bad and there are lovely walks very close by.

3rd time I have visited this hotel in the last year. Our dance group hire The Wedgewood Ballroom for the weekend. We had a sherry reception downstairs before our dinner on the Friday. Excellent 3 course meal. Wine list available. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Dinner served from 6.30pm. Breakfast form 7.30am. Cereal, fruit and fruit juice available to help yourself. Varied choice of breakfast including a full English but lighter meals available. Lunch not included in our package but available in the large conservatory overlooking the gardens. Bar also located in this area. In the Summer a small pool is available for use. Croquet can be played on the lawns. From the rear of the hotel the sea can be seen. Single and double rooms available. Extra cost for sea views.

Our first impressions when approaching the hotel was mmmm! However once inside the Hydro we knew we had chosen correctly..

The Hydro has an old world feel to it. Is this what hotels were like for our forefathers? High vaulted ceilings, wonderful lounges, liveried staff........

The clientele when we stayed was quite gentile and of an older generation. Don't let this dissuade you from a visit. The restaurant was of a fairly high standard and we enjoyed our evening meal..

The rooms were comfortable, the bed large and our sea view was fantastic.

We took advantage of a Travelzoo offer. It was money well spent.

So when in Eastbourne, "give it a go", we don't think you'll be disappointed.

Struck by old world charm and hospitality. Beautiful reception and lounge reminiscent of a stately home by sea. Staff particularly friendly including bar and restaurant. Breakfast outstanding and sea view rooms offer breathtaking views particularly towards BEACHY HEAD Had good fortune to be entertained by Duality who sang a number of 60's and 70's hits and was it quickly became a home from home. I would consider a leisure break as the hotel offers a relaxing get away from it all old world charm and elegance

This hotel has an excellent restaurant and has waiter service for breakfast. Rooms are well maintained and the bathrooms I have used have been modernised. There is full room service 24hours a day. This hotel caters foe weddings and regularly has functions. I was there for a special dance weekend.

I have been here for a coffee before which was very nice, but this time a group of us came here for a celebratory lunch. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of dishes available on the lunch time menu; I don't think anybody would have struggled to find something they liked the sound of from that menu. I ordered the soup which I couldn't describe any other way than bland- I have tasted supermarket soups with more flavour. I had the chicken and roast potatoes for main; the chicken was well cooked in a pleasant gravy, however the potatoes were dry and not in the least fluffy or crispy. The vegetables which came in a separate dish were undercooked and sloppily presented. The poached apricot for dessert however, was lovely and flavoursome with just the right amount of sweetness. All portions were very generous and the staff were attentive throughout. I do not think I would return here to eat again though or recommend it to anybody else; I think there are much better options for a similar price in the area.

We (Gill & I) had been invited join my sister & her husband to have luncheon at the Hydro Hotel, We had been there before on quite a few occasions - but quite a few years ago! We had planned to arrive there at about 12.30 -(our luncheon time was for 1pm.) So that would give us time to sit & have time for a general natter prior to our meal time.
We were shown to our table & had time to browse the menu - it all sounded lovely, making it hard to choose what to have. The waiters were very good & helpful, we asked the questions & they had the answers! We all chose the three course meals & I have to say that they were all delicious! Would we be returning & or recommending this hotel for a meal? The answer to that question would be "definitely".
