We booked an overnight break here through Travel Zoo. The hotel was new to us - we will certainly go again.
The location is superb, service was excellent ( particularly efficient and cheerful reception). The two courses included in our deal ( as was a glass of house wine) were good. Unfortunately my husband's fish was under cooked, but this was dealt with immediately without fuss. My steak was of good quality. The cheese board was particularly fine.
We had paid £10 extra for a sea view room and it was superb. Large windows ( with a comfy sofa facing!) and a very large, comfortable bed.
Breakfast was self service for fruits, cereals, juices etc and table service for cooked food and (excellent) coffee.
This isn't a hotel for young children to run around. It seems to have an older clientele, so is very accessible.

Look out for deals - but prices direct from the hotel are good.
Car park front and rear - the rear one has a short, steep slope.
Hope this was helpful - if so, click the button!

The Hydro hotel never fails to please !.
Really lovely location, close enough to allow full enjoyment of the town, pier, and seafront, but far enough away to ensure peace and quiet.
Good, clean rooms with all the essential facilities.
Staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
And as for the food..... this must surely rank up there with the very best that Eastbourne has to offer.
Overall, this hotel has a stratospheric rating on the value-for-money scale - very definitely one to be recommended.

We don't live in Eastbourne, but we used to go to the hydro all the time when we used to visit Eastbourne, absolutely stunning hotel, lovely food, would definitely recommend the cream tea! The atmosphere is pleasant and the views are beautiful too. Would definitely recommend!

This was the very first time I had been to the hydro for afternoon tea. It started off badly, there was nobody at the entrance to greet us so I had to go looking for a member of staff to show us where we were able to sit,

The lunch was not being surved till 3 and we had arrived at 2.45 so we decided to ordered pre lunch coffee's which took till 3.20 to brought to us.

once we got seated I do not know why the tables have a plak on them saying that the table has waiter service because for over an hour we had nobody come and ask if we would like to order, so had to find a member of staff to take our order. Our cream tea finally arrived over half an hour later! They didn't even bring the plates, we once again had to go and ask a member of staff, they brought them for us but was then told that the knives would be brought out with the drinks which never arrived ,had to go up and ask a member of staff again!!!

At no point where we asked if everything was OK or even would we like a top up. The food I have to say was lovely my only criticism was that the sandwiches had started to go a little dry from which I can only presume had not been covered properly.

The staff where not rude in anyway but I just wished that they were more on the ball with their survive as it gets so frustrating when you have to keep asking over and over for something they have overlooked.

This was my birthday present to my mum and nan so it was horrible when I could see that they weren't having a great time and also getting frustrated by the staff.

I will mention that the hotel is lovely and the view out so sea is beautiful.
I just really hope that if I do return again that this would be resolved as I believe this hotel could have amazing potential.

We visited the Hydro hotel for afternoon tea after a matinee theatre trip for my Mum's birthday. The conservatory, where it was served, was lovely with views across the grounds and out to sea. I think it might be a bit noisy if full. The afternoon tea was delicious according to my companions. I am lactose intolerant, which means no cream or milk - unfortunately the only way they could guarantee dairy free was also gluten free! Despite ringing the day before. The sandwiches were very tasty, but why not serve a selection rather than having to choose one variety. Overall the tea was good but could so easily have been excellent.

Visited the Crystal Restaurant for lunch on Easter Sunday. Excellent meal and an Easter Egg each for a very reasonable cost. One of our favourite places to eat. Staff are all welcoming, efficient and helpful. They must have a large kitchen staff as never have to wait long for food! Thank you especially to Rose the restaurant manager.

We have stayed at Hydro a few times, and will not contemplate anywhere else when visiting Eastbourne. Old world glamour and charm make this a really relaxing base for either business or pleasure. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed excellent breakfasts (cooked to order, and not the ubiquitous luke-warm buffets found in most chain hotels); good choice and standard of evening meal, with excellent wine list and friendly staff. Idiosyncratic touches like the jigsaw in the lounge give this hotel its unique charm. When visiting make sure you visit the Holywell Tea Chalet at the end of the beach for one of their famous cheese scones.

Unfortunately although the afternoon tea was of a very good standard the whole experience was ruined by the awful service. We were a party of eight so were requested to make our sandwich choices before arrival. However it took 45 minutes from us being seated to our food arrival. As we had complained about the wait for the food, it was delivered in a very surly manner. Not impressed.

Booked a room here as my brother was getting married there.
The hotel has a very old feel about it, 'The Shining' comes to mind however the rooms are very modern and well decorated.
We stayed with my daughter who is a year and half and though the hotel obviously caters for the older geration (hope that isnt rude) I wasnt made to fell unwelcome. The hotel provided a travel cot and blankets. The room was a little on the small side with the cot in it but to be honest with you I didnt mind as we were only sleeping there the one night. The room, bathroom and linen was all very clean.
I cant fault the staff, every one I came into contact with was professional and helpful.
The hotel is walking distance to the beach, I didnt have time for any other sightseeing so, sorry, cant comment on any other amenities.
We had a three course meal and breakfast there and both were lovely.
A lovely short stay and would highly recommend.

The hotel was exactly how I expected, maybe a little better.
The breakfast was good and the staff in the restaurant very nice (they provide me a rich vegetarian english breakfast and also an espresso which was not even in the menu choice. The position of the hotel is fantastic, quite and with wonderful view of the sea, perfect if you want to relax and explore the neighbourhood. The majority of the guests are a little bit "overage" (in their 70s in the better choice), but this is not in the hotel's choice :-)
If I'll be back in Eastbourne, I'll come back in the Hydro hotel

Typical English coastal town with benches facing the sea from the promenade. Friendly staff, beautiful dining room and sun room. I was there for 3 nights with my 21 year old daughter who is fascinated with everything English. Views from the room was scenic , what more the open spaces.

We have stayed at the Hydro many times and it never fails to delight. The latest spring break did not disappoint. If you want comfortable rooms, good food and old fashioned customer service you cannot beat the Hydro.

Old world charm without the affectation of (for instance) The Grand just along the front. Lots of space to lounge as both resident or non-resident visitor. Often just come for afternoon tea but also ample dining room for more formal lunch or dinner at still very reasonable prices.

Big event, almost 90 there for lunch. Excellent location with very pleasant conservatory to enjoy before lunch. Service was superb. Difficult to comment on menu in that it was chosen for us but the main was satisfactory and the dessert was wonderful. Very good house wines.

Rooms newly refurbished and well presented. Can often be too warm and seagulls noisy but all adds to the experience. Bar shuts early but night porter there to help. Food acceptable if not very varied for Vegetarians.

Usually the Hydro is the 'tops' for meeting friends for coffee/tea/lunch but oh dear you let us down this morning, Hydro. We had a party of 12 booked for a birthday coffee party. We all arrived at 10.30am and ordered various different shades of coffee and... we waited until 11.30am to be served. The pre-booked birthday cake arrived after some of us had finished our coffee. I am not one for ever complaining but I think Tripadviser need to know about this morning. There seemed to be 2 trainee young ladies and a trainee young man manning the coffee station. You have to do better in future Hydro - you will not lose your very loyal customers but things must improve because there is a huge choice of other places to go to in Eastbourne.

The weekend with our family was superb. The rooms with seaviews were stunning. The food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent with lots of choice for all of us including a vegetarian menu. The staff were attentive and helpful all weekend.

We have visited this hotel on many occasions and every time we are pleased with our experience . This is not a modern hotel but holds its own with traditional decor and surroundings . The conservatory is large but can be noisy at times. If the weather is good a stroll out onto the front lawn that overlooks the sea is great. I have not experienced poor service as others and would recommend a visit for lunch .

I stayed here for 3 nights with my elderly Dad and it was just right. Lovely sea views from elevated position. Good lounge areas for sitting and large conservatory coffee / lunch area. Seems a very popular meeting place for locals. Food fine and staff attentive.

we visit the Hydro hotel a few times a year for little mini breaks. They are always welcoming to both us and our little chihuahua. They set aside a special table in the restaurant where they serve us (and the dog) breakfast and evening meal if we want. The rooms are always clean and luxurious., It is meant to be a three star but I would happily say it is 4+++. they have lovely grounds with a beautiful sea view.
I think they are exceeding the standards set for a three star hotel. Highly recommend this place for a wonderful stress free holiday.

This is a beautiful old hotel overlooking the sea. The front desk personnel were welcoming and helpful. The room had a terrific view of the sea and the cliffs. The hotel was elegant and well-maintained throughout. The dining room had an excellent menu, excellent food, and classy, attentive service.

This is an archetypal old fashioned Grand Hotel which is fraying a bit at the edges although still captures the spirit of a bygone era. It is set on a hill just off the sea front road and thus some of the function rooms have great sea views. We were there for lunch in an annex room which was without any views at all. The food was average to good and rather predictable although served in large quantities. The service was fine being polite and accomplished. We were moved for coffee to a similar lack lustre room. There is certainly plenty of space for inside to walk off a large meal.
