Spent a wonderful evening at the Hydro hotel on a Saturday evening. The room was really wonderful with a fantastic sea view. It was very large, clean and fabulous fluffy towels. There was plenty of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits in the room. The evening meal was very good and the breakfast the next day was wonderful. The service in the restaurant was excellent and could not be faulted. The hotel has a real old Agatha Christie feel to it, but is very well presented and clean. They have a croquet and mini golf course on the grounds as well as a lovely swimming pool. Our only down side would be that they ask you to keep the windows closed as the sea gulls come into the rooms. This made the room very hot - there is no air con in the room. If there was some type of netting on the window, they could be left open with the gulls getting in.
A really wonderful place to stay, and we look forward to going back again.

It was our third time visiting this year and like always the standard was excellent! The staff was very helpful and extremely kind, Espcially the Lounge bar staff and the Resturant waitors/waitresses. The rooms were clean and tidy and the beds were comfortable, The garden was great for my daughter to do gym and for the dog to run around, The food was up to excellent standard however I would like to see more variety of basic/traditional options like pizzas and nuggets etc. The conservatory food took a little longer than in the resturant but still the same standard and the staff always apolgised. The seaview from some rooms were absoultly breathtaking and there is so many things to do around eastbourne! Unfortuantly the outdoor pool wasn't opened till the thursday which means we were unable to use it but in the past years it is really good and enjoyable, also early morning of our last day a fire alarm went off and the staff was so helpful to get everyone out the building and to help us not panic, and they also wrote a letter and slipped it under each door to apolgise! I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a shortbreak/holiday, it is a peaceful calming holiday. but altogether it is the best hotel i have been too!
Places to visit- Eastbourne pier, Seaford, Beachy head, Brighton.

The hotel provides a relaxed environment with all the characteristics of the old fashioned friendly hotel. Excellent service throughout the stay by all staff at the hotel. Very good choice of food without being too rich in its cooking and presentation.

Third floor single room with large en suite and sea view, comfortable bed, very clean and welcoming. Excellent breakfast, full English, kippers, or continental. Evening meal along the traditional lines but very good and enjoyable. Lovely location overlooking the Western lawns and sea with beautiful gardens and open air swimming pool.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from 26th May.
The has charm and elegance with very friendly and competent staff. It represented very good value and the food was very good served, in nice surroundings.
The hotel has some lovely touches such as giving vouchers for wine on both evenings, tea and coffee making, including biscuits topped up daily. The white bath towels were very large and luxurious, possibly the best we have had in any hotel.
We booked a sea view room which gave a a full view of the sea overlooking the hotels croquet lawn. The hotel is situated in aa nice position and we enjoyed the gentle stroll to the town centre,
Based on the above you may query why I have awarded 4 and not 5 stars. The reason being bathrooms are very small and a walk in shower would have made better use of space, secondly parking in the hotel grounds is extremely limited. There is free roadside parking but we were reluctant to use having just purchased a brand new car and hold a disabled parking permit.
So in fairness, I would if possible have given 4+ stars.
Would I visit again,most definitely !.

We had a very enjoyable 2 night weekend for our first visit to the Hydro Hotel and it lived up to all the recommendations. The sunny weather helped to enjoy lunches in the conservatory. The staff from arrival and throughout our stay were all really helpful. The bedroom faced the front and had a lovely view. We will no doubt visit the hotel again when we go to Eastbourne.

After a spell in hospital and a period of recuperation at home I thought a short break, (close to home should she not enjoy the experience) would offer a suitable tonic on my wife's road to recovery. The Hydro Hotel was everything I hoped it would be. The room with a sea view had a very large and comfortable bed and was furnished to a decent standard. The food was of a very high standard with excellent choices that even tempted me to a very reasonably priced dessert. The staff were both friendly and professional. I had no hesitation in recommending the hotel to both family and friends.

This is the second time we have spent a short break at The Hydro Hotel.
My wife and I are very hard to please and do not generally visit a place twice however the Hydro has been an exception. The Staff are exceptional ,they genuinely do care for your wellbeing. The food is first class well prepared with a varied menu, the Crystal Dining room is an experience in itself. Jonathan Owen the new manager is continuing to keep up a well managed hotel, his staff are a credit to him. To name individuals would be unfair as they all deserve praise for a excellent customer service. Well done to all including the chap who lowers the Hydro flag each evening. A lovely traditional in a traditional hotel.

Our room had a view of the sea and overlooked the croquet lawn also which was very well kept. We only stayed one night and parked opposite in the road, would loved to have stayed longer. The food was excellent and we also bought two guest with us to dinner who live locally and enjoyed the food also. Staff are lovely and really helpful.

The Hydro Hotel Eastbourne is a Lovely Hotel, built many years ago it has great character, the staff try to make sure ones stay none other than First Class, going that extra file for the guest at all times. The views are something special which draws one to this fine hotel

Myself and partner Fiona, our little dog Bibi. love to return to the Hydro when possible, Dogs are made to feel at home with areas for them.

We stayed one night on the Hotels dinner plan which was excellent, the menu was
5 Star with many excellent food choices to choose from, the presentation and quality of the food was very good indeed.
Breakfast in the Room was good but could have been better, portions were small, and the table in the room was only big enough for one guest to have breakfast on., views were excellent from our sea View Room, TV very small, no fridge, bathroom also small
but clean and tidy, sufficient for one nights stay.

Overall I would rate the Hydro Hotel a very good Hotel indeed, one call feel at home there with many nice Guests who also stay there, and a excellent team of staff who do there best for guests at all times. We look forward to our next stay at the Hydro Hotel, Eastbourne. Thank you. Ray & Fiona Ferris, and Bibi our Dog.

Wow! My wife and I had a fantastic afternoon tea and cake celebration as part of my wife's Birthday treats over the weekend. My wife is 'coeliac' and the cake stand was excellent value for money. Lounge staff were very polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

The food was delicious, in fact too much for my wife, as we ended up taking x3 cakes home and she has finished the last one today and said each cake was really lovely which isn't always true of wheat and gluten free foods. She had her first 'cream tea' in a long time and we both think the venue, staff, presentation and value is outstanding. We have already been talking about it with family and friends.

We also recently attended the 'Fawlty Towers' evening which was awesome! We are now really looking forward to the forthcoming 'Allo, Allo' themed evening in July. We can't wait!

This really is a special place to eat, drink, socialise and relax. The best Hotel in Eastbourne, thank you.

We stayed for a weekend in late May, needing accommodation in Eastbourne to attend a wedding. This is a splendid comfortable and spacious old hotel in the British seaside grand tradition. It is in an exceptionally quiet position on top of the cliffs with views to the sea - but not inconveniently placed. Our double sea facing room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom has been re-done, and is a reasonable standard but not luxurious. On the other hand, this hotel, for what it offers, is exceptional value. The hotel has been unevenly modernised and re-furbished over the years. To some tastes some of the decor and furnishings may seem dated and old fashioned - somewhat luxurious, but also retro. We were unfussy, and although the furnishing ambience was neither modern nor stylish, it is comfortable, quiet, and spacious. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. For example, I was up at 5 one morning, and the night porter was most friendly, and provided a welcome cup of coffee. You are unlikely to find your night disturbed by a stag party. More characteristic of the guests is those attending bridge holiday weekends. Definitely older rather than younger generations. The food we had was good. If you fancy a walk, the hotel is the right end of town for a refreshing climb over the downs to Beachy Head. I gather this hotel is not part of a group. This shows in a personal touch, and our impression was that it is well-managed with happy staff. Crucial. they aim to please, and if you accept it for what it is, they succeed.

Revisited after a poor experience Sept 2013 and must say they have really uped their game. We had a lovely traditional afternoon tea that I cannot fault. Choice of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam plus cakes - all delightful. We were rather overfull at the end! Service was also very good. All for a reasonable price. Will definitely return.

The staff are helpful and would go the extra mile to make our stay happy especially as we are in our eighties and i am in a wheelchair it was so nice to be treated as a normal person .The food was was first class as was the service , all the staff were dressed in a very smart uniform and were trained to high standard with the old fashion style that is sadly lacking today

My daughter and I had a twin room with a sea view. Our break Monday to Friday was just what we needed. This hotel is class. Staff are pleasant, discreet and if needed helpful. Breakfast had a wide varied choice and as for dinner - the menu is extensive and the food was cooked and presented beautifully. Book in the future ? Yes we most certainly would.

An excellent room with the WOW factor, superb luxury décor. Friendly efficient service and excellent food. Spacious and comfortable lounges and bar area, good garden and location not far from the seafront. For two friends together, we could not have asked for more

Very nice town to be located in, just on the edge.

Have stayed here several times, and the hydro has had a 'makeover' since my last visit.

It has still got that 'old fashioned' feel and the average age of its 'residents' is around 80, so don't be surprised that it's feels like an old age folks home.

The food was ok, not the best I have had there. Rooms are ok, very hot, like the lounge and bar, very hot.

I have been visiting this hotel in various capacities for 50 + years, and it has never disappointed me. Although we live locally, my partner and I decided to enjoy an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. Everything was perfect and we returned home today in a happy frame of mind - determined to repeat the experience.

No complaint at all about this lovely hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. We were given an upgrade as it's was a special birthday to a third floor sea view room which was excellent. The food in the restaurant was very nice indeed, and service great. One if the few hotels with a car park, and easy street parking too. Nice walk into town and buses close by. We will go again. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service would recommend this hotel to anyone and lovely sea views.
the location is up on a hill with its own small car park but plenty of car spaces in front of hotel. It is quiet of a day and night and is only a 8 minute walk to the town centre along the sea front.

Fabulous Hotel. We had a free drink on arrival--Travelzoo. This is in beautiful grounds with some garden games for children /Adults. Looked as if the grounds met the Sea. Our room was great and large. Food served in the Dinning was superb.
Hot and fast service. Staff were lovely. We loved the whole experience and would stay there again.

Excellent afternoon tea. Choice of sandwiches. One of the best scones I've ever had with a small pot of jam and clotted cream for each of us. Good choice of cakes/pastries but too full to try each of them. We were supplied with a bag to take them home. Superb service and a wonderful view of the sea. Really reasonable price as well. Will definitely visit again.

On whole a really pleasant experience. The room was clean and all the public areas looked as though they had been freshly decorated. There was a really nice lawn area with seating to soak up the last half an hour of sunshine with a nice cold beer. The food was very good and the waiting staff tried hard although I felt there was a bit of a language barrier at times. The tables around us in the restaurant and the lounge area seemed to be very slow to be cleared.

I sorry to say that whilst checking out there where 2 staff working at reception one attending to a guest the other on the phone to a potential customer. I waited patiently for the first person to become available this was the receptionist that had been on the phone. As she finished her call and I stepped toward her the phone rang again and she immediately answered leaving me standing there as though I no longer existing. This was extremely rude, she did not even acknowledge my presence. Her colleague was then the next to finish and she proceeded to successfully check me out. Surely a guest in person at reception SHOULD NOT be pushed aside to answer an incoming telephone call this was bad form.
