We stopped here to eat as where we had hoped to go was fully booked. We managed to get the last unreserved table and were seated very quickly. The service was very swift and if you enjoy taking your time over a meal perhaps a little hurried. We had the squid and whitebait to start, which were both cooked well. Mains were veal and steak rossinni. The veal was a little overcooked but still good and the steak was excellent. A place to visit again

Really nice pizza, nice starters too and a good wine selection.

The service to get the bill at the end was a bit slow but the food all came out in good time.

Thanks!

Over the years have been to the sister restaurant Pomodoro a couple of times and thought we would try this side. Service and food excellent. We were looked after as soon as we arrived without any pressure at all. My Zuppa di pesce gratinata (Gratinated fish stew with a touch of dolcelatte cheese) at £16.50 was a delight served in its own pan. My partner who detests cheese searched the menu for a risotto without cheese but when it came up some cheese had been folded into it. No problem at all as it was whisked away and a replacement came very quickly. Things happen and the difference is how you handle them which in this case was superbly. If anybody thinks you cannot get good food in Eastbourne then they are incorrect and should try this place. I will definitely be back.

Last visited for my husbands birthday with our girls 9 and 10. They don't have a kids menu but they were brilliantly helpful around what they could and couldn't do in half portions. The atmosphere is good and the service very attentive and you feel the warmth of the Italian hospitality. The meats are of a high standard and cooked well. That said, for me I find it all a bit trapped In the 1980's. It's all a bit decorative for me which is not necessary and it feels a bit OTT for what it is. Reasonably priced if you choose from the set menu but a family of 4 can expect to pay over £100 with wine. We don't like Mozzarella Pomodoro which is more relaxed and family focussed next door but if you are conscious that you will probably have the only kids in the restaurant then maybe look at Mozzarella instead. Would we return, yes probably, would we recommend, with hesitation.

I took my partner he for her birthday and was impressed. It was a Sunday evening and there were a few customers but it wasn't that busy. We were seated and given menus. The waiter took our order which was from a menu with a good choice (more bistro that standard Italian). We both started with king prawns which were good. I then had the 3 fish option - bass, salmon and swordfish and my partner had pork fillet. Both were served with a good selection of potatoes and veg. We also had desserts. Food was very good and washed down with a nice glass of wine or 2! We were served with complimentary liquor to finish. The evening was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend this place but it is slightly on the pricey side especially the starters and desserts.

Great food, friendly, helpful staff. No complaints at all- they did forget our wine order when we first arrived, but when pointed out it was brought immediately with 2 complimentary Proseccos. Very attentive from then on and did have complimentary drinks after dinner. The whole meal was tasty, well presented and excellent.

We took my 17 yr old son for a birthday dinner, it was lovely.
Staff were friendly and efficient, I felt most of the diners were regulars which is always a good sign. Delicious calamari, then calves liver - yum, the others has pasta and milanaise equally good. The best Cassata in years - home made and great :). £100 for 3 inc drinks. There is a cheaper option of 3 course set menu with about half a dozen choices of starters, mains and pud. Will be back !!!!

The liver was really really excellent. We all thought the food and service was far better than expected. Not a cheap meal but good value.

We came here for our Anniversary.
We were seated very quickly and the service was attentive but not intrusive, which is something that I find some restaurants struggle to master. The atmosphere was a little too quiet, but it gives you the opportunity to admire your company.
The food was presented with great attention to detail and tasted fantastic.
La Locanda Del Duca is ideal for those romantic evenings.

Had seen the good reviews here. The menu had a good range of choices, I believe most y politepeople could find something they would like. I must admit, I do like to eat veal once in a while, yet it isn't often I find it in this country these days. I chose the veal for my main course, and found it to be excellently prepared, and the accompanying vegetable section was faultless. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed each dish we had. The wine selection on offer was more than satisfactory, and our choice proved excellent, especially at the price.
If I am honest, a do appreciate good service above all else. The service was efficient, and perfunctorily polite. However I didn't see a single smile from either of the three staff who we encountered, despite the many reviews that applaud the cheerful and friendly staff here. Anyway, that aside, we would say that for a great choice of well prepared dishes for a more than reasonable price, you won't complain at all. Delicious!

Booked a table in the afternoon for Saturday night, no prob. Called to put back 30 minutes because we were running late, no prob. Arrived and they put us (5) on a large well laid out table. We asked if we could move to a small one, no prob. Menu is excellent, lots of choice particularly on the fish side. We ordered a range of different starters and main course and all were superb. Service throughout was excellent. We had several waiters during the night and they were all happy and attentive. Overall we had a wonderful night. I would highly recommend.

You don't need to wear a tie and jacket, but if you do you will feel comfortable here. An excellent menu and well prepared and presented food. Attentive staff and the owner is always there to ensure you receive the service speed you want. This is a classic Italian restaurant of class.

We passed this restaurant on a Wednesday evening in mid January and it was busy, so we returned the following evening when it was also busy. It's not surprising when you see how good the food and service is! Prices are very reasonable, particularly for the set menu. The only slight quibble is that the starters and desserts on the set menu are from the 1970s, but at least they are beautifully presented and taste great.

Our family numbered fifteen with ages from seven to ninetyfive, and we were all most impressed with the quality of food and service. We ordered widely off the menu, everything was served together and the staff were friendly and efficient. The meal lasted two and a half hours, we were never rushed and we all came away having had a most enjoyable and positive experience.

You will see from my other reviews that I am not a fan of this restaurants sister restaurant next door - Mozzarella Pomodoro. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the great food and lovely atmosphere in here. My husband and I ate without the kids but I would be happy to bring them here, although I think they'd rather the kids ate next door. The service is efficient and there's a lovely atmosphere. My food could have been a little warmer. The pesto mash seemed to have been heated up and was rather cold in the middle. They need to make sure that they don't make the mistake as the restaurant next door and dress everything up 80's style with too much unnecessary and OTT garnish. The house white was not great but then you can't expect too much for £13.50 a bottle. The tables around us (parties of 3 and 4) were offered free liqours, we weren't, so maybe we didn't have enough courses! Or maybe they just didn't like us :) that said, the food is good and we would go again which is more than I would say for next door.

I have used La Locanda for five years now and frankly wish i could get there more often. Perhaps a little old fashioned in the sense you are treated properly, extremely politely, and attention to your table from all the staff is superb, even when the staff are very busy. Old fashioned? No! that is how it should be so all other restaurants take note from these guys!
The staff are friendly who ever you are, first timers or old clients and take their time to ensure you have everything you need, without being intrusive, from the moment you arrive to your leaving. The food is always of excellent quality, more than enough (make sure you ask for the side orders as the mains do not come with vegatables) and the puddings and coffee a great end to a wonderful evening.
Set menu or al a carte, you are offered a 'drink with us' without fail as you pay you bill, which adds to a feel good factor.Next door is a pizza pasta sister restaurant which we have used many times too, for the kids and lunches and the levels of attention extend to this too. I don't know your recipe guys but keep doing it as we recommend you everywhere. Great italian, great people.

Turned up at 9pm on a Saturday without a reservation and they were happy to accommodate us, though quite full. Great welcome and a complimentary drink to end the evening. Also received a 10% discount as we were attending a conference at the nearby Congress Halls.

Pomodoro E Mozzarella is the sister establishment next door to La Locanda. It is less formal but the food is of the same high standard as La Locanda. The set price meal was good value and we enjoyed our evening out and are looking for an excuse to go along again.

This is a very popular restaurant and on the night we went (friday) very busy. However the service was very good and we enjoyed our food very much. We had 3 courses and wine and it was lovely. Value for money at approx £35 per head and complimentary drink afterwards.

We had some lovely food here, the service was good, and the atmosphere was nice although it is slightly more expensive. I had Insalata caprese to start (fantastic) and Gnocchi al gorgonzola e rucola as a main which was lovely but slightly too rich for me. Tiramisu for pudding which I was a bit disappointed with as there was too much mascarpone and not enough sponge but nice enough.

This restaurant was nearly booked out for the Saturday night we wanted to eat there so we had to take an early booking. We were pleased that the atmosphere was still pleasant and the staff were great. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared and delicious. I ordered the insalata mista, expecting the usual insipid but healthy salad. It was a visual delight and perfectly prepared. After 2 weeks of eating wonderfully every night we expected to feel a bit indifferent to our dinner but it was interesting and delicious. oh well, we can always eat broth when we get home!
