This family run hotel is an absolute delight to visit. It is ideally situated on the sea front.Once inside it is well appointed with beautiful furniture befitting this lovely Georgian property. Neil and his staff are very attentive and there is nothing that is too much trouble. The rooms are very clean and well fitted. The breakfasts set you up for the day and there is a good lunch and afternoon tea menu. The restaurant menu has some mouth watering dishes and the wine list is very comprehensive. I will certainly return to this hotel and would recommend it to family and friends.

I stay at this hotel every two weeks and have done for the last 3 years. Staff are first class, rooms are comfortable and breakfast is always nice.
Reasonable rates for excellent comfortable nights away.

I stayed here due to work and upon arrival I was very happy with the choice of hotel. It is right alongside the seafront, the entrance is welcoming, and all the public areas are well decorated and nicely maintained.
The staff were very helpful, and even allowed us to replace our included breakfast with complimentary lunch sandwiches instead. I recommend the beef and horseradish :)
Then I'll take you through the rooms. They were dated, very dated. The room was tiny and the shower room tinier. The shower itself was quite useless but it managed to do the job.
All in all this hotel has great promise. The main areas and the staff are excellent, but the rooms let it down. If the hotel were to spend a substantial amount renovating the rooms, the room size wouldn't be an issue, and the hotel could be on par with many Hilton's.
But we are in hard financial times, so I wouldn't expect it to change any when soon.

This was a 2 night stay as part of a Christmas party break for 14 people.
A smooth friendly check-in lead to a room on the 3rd floor. The room was clean, tidy, quite large with a small table and chairs and 3 separate windows overlooking the sea. There was plenty of hanging space and copious drawers. All was in very good condition with the windows being double glazed sash units. Not having a tape measure with me I estimate the double bed to be 5 foot across. It was on the firm side which I like. If I was to mention a minus point it would be that it was very brown in decor, but that may be just me. Heating was by an electric wall heater that was efficent and controllable. A nicely appointed shower room with reasonable toiletries supplied. The corner shower enclosure wasn't the biggest I've every used but I fitted in there with space to spare and I buy from the very end of the M&S clothes rail to give you some idea.
There is a lift to all floors which does what a lift should do without fuss. It is quite small and there was a bit of a build up when a coach party of pensioners arrived however that soon cleared. Downstairs the public rooms and reception are nicely laid out with plenty of seating. The bar is quite small but providing people move away from it after their purchase it runs well and they were happy to serve tea and coffee at anytime. Our evening meal in the restaurant was very good. The tables were very festive with plenty of things to play with, such as ballons, poppers, crackers etc. The food came out to a very high standard. For a set Christmas menu it was superb value. Moving to breakfast the surprise was no buffet. All food served to the table on order. Plenty of choice from the menu. It seemed that if you wanted a variation just ask and it was no problem. It was nice to be able to have a conversation with the group that wasn't broken by people leaving to feed themselves.
Perhaps an indicator that this is a popular hotel is the shear volume of people using the hotel. There were simply people everywhere, but by no means crowded, and having walked through Eastbourne this week and seen how empty some quite major chain hotels were they must be doing something right.
There may be a clue in the staff. Thoughout our stay the staff were the friendliest and most helpful we have met for a long time. That includes from chambermaid up to manager. They all were just so nice, willing to talk and to use an old fashion term give you good service. As an example because the weather was so bad on the second day (Gale force winds and heavy rain) they came and found us and offered to make room for us at the evening meal to save us the trip into town. The cynics would say they just wanted our money but we looked upon it as they actually cared for their guests. I also must mention that they phoned our organiser to ask if the cabaret (A belly dancing troupe) that a group sharing the restaurant had arranged would be acceptable and our group would not be offended. That shows forethought with the PC minefield that we inhabit these days.
So it may not be the Ritz and if you're looking for that go somewhere else. However if you are looking for a well run hotel that seems to run on somewhat fogotten values you could find this fits the bill.

This delightful sea front hotel is a classic Georgian building. It has beautiful views from the large front rooms and very helpful friendly staff. My wife and I go there for a regular December visit for a gathering with friends . We are provided with an excellent breakfast and evening meal and a glass of bubbly on entry to the party room. There is a lift and a bar and all rooms have on suite and TV. Being on the end of the sea front parking is easier than in the center of town.
The owners make us very welcome and for us it is the start to Christmas. The hotel is excellent value and I can recommend its theme nights and special events.

We arrived on the Friday, 7th December 2012, for our annual get together with some special Friends over the weekend.
The evening was a relaxed affair, with dinner for 30 of us. What excellent food! You would not get better value for money anywhere else like this. There was a lovely duet who kept us entertained through dinner and beyond. ThevSaturday evening did not disappoint as the black tie event went on late in to the evening, again with excellent service fron the staff and pastoral care fron the owners, Neil & Wendy.
If you want to get away and be looked after then this hotel is a MUST.

Stayed at The Langham Hotel for the third short break in 4 years and have watched the development and improvement of facilities at the hotel over that time. We were, from the very beginning made so welcome here and i'm happy to say that hasn't changed! Food and service are likewise as good as ever. The room refurbishment has come on apace and we were very happy with our small, reasonably priced double with nice, new en-suite. Overall can highly recommend The Langham....thanks for a lovely, if brief, stay....See you next year!

Since the 1960's, when British people eschewed the advantages of holidaying in England for the guaranteed warmth of the Costa del Sol, the lot of the British seaside hotel has been pretty dire; many have closed and those that remain are invariably dingy and long overdue refurbishment - the image of Fawlty Towers remains firmly at the front of the minds of potential clientelle. Even if you can find a reasonable coastal hotel, many have been taken over by chains and are utterly impersonal.

How thoroughly pleasant it was to discover a privately owned hotel that is bucking the trend.

The owner, Neil Kirby, has a wealth of experience gained in such prestigious hotels as the Gosvenor House in Park lane, London and he brings the level of personal service that one would expect in higher rated establishments to his AA 3-star hotel in Eastbourne.

We stayed there on the windiest and wettest weekend in November, whilst attending a Ladies Night, which the hotel seems to carved a bit of a niche. The reception, bars and restaurants have all been refurbished to a very high standard and there is an ongoing programme of renovation progressing through the hotel.

Even though our sea-view room was one that was clearly awaiting the magic wand of the 'transformation fairy' it was well presented, clean and neat. The new double-glazed sash windows kept out the some of the worst weather imaginable and the very efficient heating system kept us very cosy. The bathroom left a little to be desired with no natural light and well past its sell-by date; most annoyingly, the peculiar arrangement of shower screens by which both glazed sides slid back to allow an corner aperture for entry and egress, was not large enough to accommodate one who is built for comfort rather than speed! The bathroom was the only real problem, but it was enough of a nuisance to cost the hotel their fifth 'spot'.

Our only real experience of the restaurant was confined to the banquet evening meal and two breakfasts, which was a shame because holding an AA rosette, I am sure the restaurant a la carte menu would have been excellent. Certainly the banquet meal - always notoriously difficult to ensure the highest quality with so many covers - was superb. The breakfasts did not follow the recent trend of a 'buffet style' where quality plays a distant second-place to quantity, insread a policy of a traditional served breakfast was the order of the day. This meant that quality was foremost and underpinned by the hotel's devotion to personal service as the highly efficient waiting staff attended to the precise needs of the guests.

Car parking is either at owner's risk in the local side-streets, or in a secure carpark about a 400-yard walk away... and believe me, as their carparking is on the local army base, security is extremely good! A regular bus service stops opposite the hotel to whisk guests into town, or the Eastbourne taxis represent good value for money. The hotel offers free wifi in the rooms by means of a code gained from reception.

The weekend that my wife, my young son and I had in Eastbourne was absolutely fabulous and much of that was down to the wonderful service provided by the hotel... would we return? Without a moment's hesitation! But I would make sure that I asked for a room where a person of my corpulence could (at least) have a shower!

Really enjoyed our stay at the Langham. We had one of the latest refurbished rooms which was absolutley beautiful really modern with three big windows, good quality furniture, great fabrics and an amazing, large shower room that i wished i could have taken home, i loved the tiles they sparkled.
Amazing food, didn't intend to eat in both nights but so impressed with value for money thought it would cost far more to eat out. Lunches were great too and tea and coffee comes with homemade shortbread and flapjacks AMAZING....... I loved it.
The owner came and chatted with us too, such a funny guy, (funny HA HA not funny peculiar) made us feel really welcome.
Will most certainly go back. Soon we hope.......

Had another wonderful weekend away, food once again was excellent. I can't believe the food quality for the money. It's such good value.Friday and Saturday nights were quite busy with functions but it's what you expect in a good hotel now adays. We've been to 5* hotels and been bombed out in the bar by wedding parties etc.. It was nice to have a quite Sunday to round off the weekend nicely. Spent a lovely day sat on the terrace in the Autumn sunshine enjoying a nice hot chocolate and home made flap jack (which are to die for) whilst watching the world go by.
Had a fab 4 poster room with floor to ceiling bay window looking along the seafront to the pier. Staff are all lovely too, so friendly. Can't wait for the next little getaway........

We went on a weekend away for a Ladies Night with friends. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Bathrooms are dated but plenty of hot water, so more than adequate for the duration of the stay. We had dinner on arrival and the menu offered plenty of choice and very good portions, no one went hungry. Full English or Continental breakfast is offered with plenty of toast, tea & coffee.
Dinner on the Saturday night again was very good. Bar prices are reasonable, comparable with pub prices. Staff are friendly and efficient.
Hotel is good for a function as they are well staffed and offer good food with good service,

I booked two rooms for my family for a one night stay on 17th November. The rooms I booked (220 and 215) were spotlessly clean and well kept. At night the room was warm and comfortable and the heating was not even on. Room 220 was well insulated from any outside road noise even though it was facing a main road which meant I was gauranteed a good night's sleep. The food and service was excellent and the drinks reasonably priced. The function I attended was made all the better by the staff who were very professional throughout the course of the evening.
The sea view from room 220 was a joy to see this morning as the sun came up, that really put me in the right mood for the rest of the day. I spoke to the owner Neil while checking out this morning and I had nothing but praise for him and his staff. Well done.
Next year we are holding our Ladies Night here again which says it all really.
It may only have three stars but it has five star service.

We regularly visit this hotel with family and friends to enjoy the great coffee and home made biscuits,(and the odd drink at the bar) excellent service and nice surroundings. Great value. We are always made most welcome by the charming and proffessional family who now own the hotel. We have seen lots of improvements and upgrading during this time. Thank you to you all.

I arrived from Gatwick Airport and my room was ready as requested. I was meeting my Dadwho was on a coach trip from Sidmouth in the aftgernoon. Much appreciated after an overnight flight from Toronto. The front staff were friendly and very helpful. Wifi was available in the bar etc. Again much appreciated.
The single room was quite small, not too bad, but my Dads single room was really not nice at all. Very, very small.
Our 4 nights there included breakfast and dinner...which were just lovely. The breakfast was served by very efficeint staff, and the food was very good. The dinners were excellent with quite a choice, and again served by efficient staff. My Dad and I had friends come from Croydon to see us there and we had lunch at the hotel.....Excellent......overall the hotel is nice...rooms could be a little better.......I certainly would return again.

We go away once a year for the weekend on a coach trip to different places. This is all done on a budget and most of the time the hotels are looking very tired. Occasionally one may have great food or service as well. The Langham manages to provide excellent food and service, in a Hotel that is definitely not looking tired.

Staff were very professional as well as amiable. Our room had modern, new looking furniture in it with a very clean, modern bathroom. Food was excellent.

I don't think there were any grumbles at all from the party and it's likely that this will be the first place that we will return to. Some people want to go there next year! I also think some people are going there independently too.

My score is based on visiting this as a weekend coach party hotel, an easy 5. If I were rating this as a hotel visitor then it would be a comfortable 5.

I stayed at this hotel recently for a short breakeven though it is close to my home. I couldn't fault the service; the staff were all very friendly and efficient and the food was worthy of 5 stars, something that is rare in British seaside hotels where often the vegetables are cooked to oblivion and the portions are small.
The room had a sea-view, well worth the small extra charge and was comfortable and well furnished. The public areas, reception lounge and bar lounge are equally well presented with more than adequate seating for all. The entertainment was superb! The resident keyboard player/singer/comedian was amazing; why has he not been discovered??? Even the bingo nights, a staple of seaside entertainment was nevertheless fun as the caller was something of a comedian himself.
All in all, a most welcome stay and a much cherished memory.

My wife and I first stayed at the Langham Hotel some forty four years ago during the early part of our marriage, and subsequently visited on a number of occasions both as a couple and later with our two children. Those happy memories remained with us and as we had only recently celebrated our 46th Wedding Anniversary we chose a further re-visit during October 2012. In order to make the visit even more special I chose to book one of the Honeymoon Suites!
Upon checking in (and as our booking was initially for 'bed and breakfast accommodation) I enquired about the booking and timing of tables for the evening meal and was provided with the necessary information. The room (120) was beautifully decorated and furnished and offered impressive views of the sea front. The decor of other areas of the hotel was also pleasing to the eye. When we visited the Dining Room for dinner on the first evening we were ushered into the "Sun Lounge" facility at the front of the hotel overlooking the Promenade because a Masonic Lodge was utilising the whole of the Dining Room. Clearly, the "shop window" aspect of the Sun Lounge lacks the warmth and ambience of the Dining Room - particularly for a celebration such as ours - as we were open to the view of passing pedestrians and vehicles. I acknowledge that such a facility will be attractive to some guests but had I been informed of this arrangement at the time of booking I would not have made the reservation! However, having found myself without alternatives I decided decided to "go with the flow"! Upon ordering our meal we noted that the menu consisted of more supplements than the Sunday Times and Observer combined! How difficult would it be to provide accurate pricing of individual items rather than present this psuedo ta´ble d'hote´ menu?
The following afternoon I visited Reception to make a further reservation for dinner to be informed that "the Masonic Function" had reserved the Dining Room and all dining facilities for the whole of that evening! When I complained that I had not been informed of this arrangement at the time of check-in, the suggestion was made that I could "visit the bar and partake of a bar snack"! Quite clearly, the prospect of continuing our celebration with a "bar snack" did not appeal - and made even more of a nonsense of our having booked two nights accommodation in one of the Honeymoon Suites! In saying that, I recognise it might be suggested that I should have booked Dinner bed and breakfast at the outset - at which time I would presumably have been advised of the dining restrictions. Perhaps a fair point, but could I not have been similarly advised when checking in at Reception? Such information would at least have given me more time and scope for our re-arranged schedule! Upon return to our room that evening further irritation and disruption was inflicted by the constant, intrusive and excessively loud noise of the music(?), entertaining the members of the Masonic Lodge. There are at least two 'Honeymoon Suites' at the Langham, which suggests that weekend functions, loss of Dining Room and excessive noise from entertainers will be a regular feature. All in all our weekend proved to be an expensive disappointment which could have been avoided had Booking.com and/or the hotel made at least some effort to inform us of the imposed arrangements. Would we have visited had we known? No! Would we recommend the Langham to others travelling in similar circumstances? No! Note: The below ratings for the Langham Hotel reflect our experience on this particular occasion.

I must say that the staff at the Langham Hotel are the most friendly and professional people I have stayed with over many years. The service was exceptional and fast . The food was excellant and always brought to your table on very hot plates. Everything you asked for was dealt with with a smile and good humour.
The chef and his team did a great job and the menu was satisfactory which covered most peoples pallets .
The room was very clean and a large bathroom was very pleasant.
The hotel was opposite the beach and pier and only a 10/15 minutes walk away from the main shopping centre in the town.
The entertainment was fair if you wished to stay in the hotel in the evening , although there were other pubs only just down the road if you fancied a stroll. The party that we part of , all gave a standing ovation to the staff for such an enjoyable stay over the weekend.
The hotel is good for most people but nothing that I could see for children in the evenings , so be careful about that point.

You can book a garage at £10 per night for your car attached to the hotel or £6 for a parking spot at the rear .
I will certainly go back again without a doubt.

We were booked into the langham as part of a party of 30 or so people staying on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel has a prominent position right on the seafront so the views from the front bedrooms are wonderful. The hotel dosent have its own parking but when we arrived in the middle of the afternoon the check in was very friendly and efficient with a staff member being quickly dispatched to carry our luggage from the car to our room. They do have secure parking at the weekends about a 3 or 4 minute walk away in a TA barracks which was very welcome and not to inconvenient. The service was really good and friendly. The food was also very good and the bar and wine prices very reasonable. The rooms (ours anyway) are small and in need of some refurbishment but everything worked well (including the WiFi and the bathroom was more than adequate. It was lovely to take breakfast in the dining room with its uninterupted views of the sea. Recommended.
