Having just arrived home after a couple days relaxation on the South Coast I felt compelled to record that my wife and I had a glorious break at the Langham, the hospitality extended to us by Neil and Wendy Kirby and their attentive staff along with the excellent food prepared by their Chef and his colleagues made the break very memorable.
I would think that the experiences Neil had gained from his time as GM at the London Grosvenor Hotel ( as highlighted in his memoirs on sale in the Hotel Lobby) have given him all the know how to run a his own Hotel in such an excellant manner.
We shall definitely be returning!!

Stayed at The Langham Hotel with a Coach company from Devon. Arrived Friday evening and the Langham looked very modern.
Staff and manager were friendly but the rooms were a bit tired. Tiles in the bathroom were cracked in places and the shower was terrible plus an "old style" tv with only 4 channels. Food was fairly good but the vegetables were the same each night. If you don't like butternut squash and carrots, then tough, cus that is all they put for the veg on the plates apart from new potatoes
But the staff were very friendly, all I can say is that if you fancy a glass of wine , be aware as it cost me £4.75 for a glass of Merlot.
The hotel is about 3/4 mile from the pier and a pleasant walk along the prom.
For a short stay it is ideal.

We were a group of 14, several elderley with restricted mobility. Loads of contact and support through booking. Wonderful welcome on arrival. Superb organisation with luggage, dining, meeting room and just about everything. All staff polite, enthusiastic and helpful. Reception staff could answer everything. Food service patient and efficient. Great food. Definitely the best ever group hotel experience I've been part of!

Just returned from a one night stay at the Langham. We had a very warm welcome from the recptionist. Our room was one of the cheaper ones, it was outdated but clean. Blankets insted of quilts which was a suprise. The bathroom was quite small but had a nice shower, which was good because it would have taken ages to fill the bath because of the water pressure.Room overlooked buildings but I am sure the ones with seaviews are lovely.Breakfast a bit on the small side. If you manage to grab a bargain night there its fine, bar and dinning room are wll keept, but would not have wanted to pay a lot for our room and the breakfast.

I've never stayed in a seaside hotel before, so booked this with a bit of trepidation. But I neednt have worried. The hotel was easy to find. Bit of a niggle trying to find somewhere to park, as outside the hotel is pay by meter, but the staff suggested we look in the side road and we were lucky enough to get parked fairly easily. Not sure the same could be said in high season.

The staff were friendly. We were on the top floor right at the end of the corridor. I'd seen other reviews that said you could hear neighbouring rooms, but as we only had people one side, we werent bothered by noise at all, even though we could clearly hear the neighbouring rooms tv blaring as we approached our door once inside it was quiet. The view from the window was wonderful, looking straight out onto the (pebbly) beach and then nothing but sea. Bring binoculars as you can just about see the Royal Sovereign Lighthouse out to sea. Looking up the beach to the right we could see the pier too.

The room was very clean, I even checked the corners! The decor was tired, with a bit of peeling paint, but the hotel is old and at least there were no damp patches or smells. The bathroom was small but clean. Only complaint it was very dark in there, the walls were a dark peachy/terracotta colour. Bed was comfy if a little hard.

Its an easy walk to the pier and various places to eat, so we decided not to eat in the hotel but see what was available outside.

At breakfast we walked into the dining room and expected to be put in a corner but were offered our choice of tables, so we opted for the ones in the sun terrace. Again the staff were friendly and there was a good choice of breakfasts which were brought to us quickly.

When checking in ask about their Wifi. Theres a tiny notice at reception which I missed and so just assumed you had to pay for it, but the notice said it was free.

When you return to your Hotel after a hard day's walking , its good to know that you'll receive a a warm welcome from the staff at Langham's. You can relax with a coffee , hot chocolate [or something stronger] in the comfortable Lounge Bar , knowing that later that evening you will be dining on good food served by friendly & efficient waiting staff. Most bedrooms are very comfortably furnished with all the features that you might require for a good night's rest. This is the fourth consecutive year that I've brought my 14 strong walking group to the Langham and no doubt we'll be coming here again in the near future.

We were very suprised by the quality of this "English seaside hotel". The cleanliness, staff and food were excellent. Our room was so clean I felt we could have walked on the carpet without wearing our usual holiday slippers. All the staff were so friendly and enthusiastic. I loved all the amazing black and white photos everywhere. We were lucky with the weather and the seaview from our room was wonderful. Eastbourne itself still looks as though it's struggling to survive and I really object to paying 20p for using the seafront toilets especially as most of the holiday makers there seem to be OAP's. We will certainly return to the hotel when we meet with our friends next year but wouldn't make a special trip to Eastbourne ever. Nearby Bexhill is a much better area. Despite our feelings about Eastbourne we would still say thanks for a lovely, relaxing break and if one has to go to that area you couldn't find a better hotel.

The wife and I have just returned from the Langham Hotel that was recommended by friends. The hotel is in a super position right on the front, our room was clean and nicely appointed considering that we booked late and had the last room, we dined in the hotel both nights and the food was excellent and very well presented both by the chef and the serving staff all fresh vegtables and excellent value. Breakfast was just as good with a good selection for everyone's taste, we will be returning as it is a long while since I have had such good value and service. Congratulations to all from the Manager down service like it should be.

The hotel staff could not have been anymore helpful and courteous throughout our 4 night stay if they tried, we were given a neat and tidy sea-view room with a bay window and modern en-suite (which was excellent for the price of the holiday) and the meals were also very good. A flat screen TV would have been a nice addition.

We have been to this lovely hotel a number of times over the past 5 years and have always had a great time here. Great cream tea!

Had a single room. It's basic but excellent value for money. Very pleasant staff and breakfast was good too. The waiters/waitresses in the breakfast room were the happiest lot I've seen in a long time and so polite. I didn't have a problem with the (sort of) two course breakfast. There's more than a few places around here that could learn a thing or two from this hotel. I enjoyed my stay here very much!

Have stayed here a few times now, and have never been disappointed.
Entrance lobby and bar are newly decorated and fabulous adverts for the hotel.
Most rooms have been done up, and last time I stayed it was in a room overlooking the sea with newly installed double glazing, so nice and quiet.
Rooms are basic, but are perfectly adequate for a couple of nights stay (it has a bed and a bathroom with a bath - what more do you need?).
Food is good, with an excellent value a la carte menu, and a good wine list with again good value for money.
Have never stayed at peak times, but staff have always been very attentive, and the owners are often around and very welcoming.

We stayed for two nights in January and upon arriving we were warmly greeted with drinks in the Restaurant bar after checking in. I happened to comment to the owner , Mr. Kirby, that my room was pleasant but a shame no sea view whereupon he immediately reallocated me an enormous room with a beautiful sea view (at no extra charge) for which I was very grateful .
Dinner on both nights was exceptional and of a far higher standard than I was expecting more akin to a posh London hotel , the service was very friendly without being over attentive and breakfast was also better than I usually experience
Yes you could argue that certain areas require updating but there was evidence that this is indeed an ongoing process and you have to remember this is an 80 odd room privately owned hotel not a multi chain with access to unlimited funds and therefore everything can not be done in one fell swoop.

A lovely hotel on sea front. Get a sea view room with lovely view down to the most beautiful pier all lit up by night. Also the recently refurbished rooms are stunning a real 5* feel.
Food exceptional value and a good choice. Staff very attentive, friendly and will help out in any way they can. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.
It's our 5th visit and the owners are always around to greet us and have a chat. Makes a lovely base for a romantic long weekend, with strolls down the seafront onto the South Downs then back for afternoon tea with shortbread and flapjacks. Missing it already......

Arrived as part of a coach party and the hotel Manager boarded the coach and welcomed everyone.
Check in was swift and the luggage was speedily delivered to the room.

The twin room had a seaview for which we had paid £40 extra for 3 nights.
It was a reasonable size although the bathroom could do with an update.
The standard of cleanliness was good.

Dinner was a fixed time, 6.15pm each night and on the first & second mornings we were asked to place our dinner order whilst having breakfast.

The first evening meal was tasty, hot and pleasantly served by the waiting staff.
The manager appeared and enquired at some tables if everything was alright.

Dinner on the second evening:
The plates were cold, the salmon and chicken warm and the accompanying sauce was cold.
The Ham salad was plentiful and tasty.

Dinner on the third night was Sunday roast which was luke warm.

After the 1st night no one checked to see if everything was alright.

Breakfast was at a fixed time and the first and second mornings were good.

Breakfast time the third morning had been brought forward, as we were leaving that day.
Everyone was seated at the required time.
Service was very slow and the last table received their cooked meal 40 minutes after arriving at the table.

The final night when trying to settle the bill, the receptionist requested that I wait 10 minutes as she was doing the banking. After a while she made a phone call regarding the banking then took things into the back of reception giving the impression that her task was complete. However she then stood chatting with another staff member so I left. The following morning I settled the bill with a different member of staff

I stayed at The Langham Hotel on Saturday 19th March . I found the reception staff to be very helpful and when I requested a quiet room it was accommadated without question. My single room (326) was comfortable, well furnished, very clean and quiet. The only issue was the creaky floorboards, but this wasn't a problem for me, but it might have been for the people staying underneath me!

My breakfast was served in the lovely conservatory and it was excellent. The staff were friendly and very efficient. For a 3* Hotel I was very impressed with overall standand and service and I'm quite fussy!

Just spend a charming afternoon having a three course lunch at the Langham.
The homemade seafood terrine was oustanding followed by a tasty vegetable curry. My Chablis was also delicious and extremely reasonably priced for such a wine.
The staff are always poilte, friendly and welcoming and i feel my custom is truly appreciated. Every member of the team work hard to make this hotel the sucess that it is.
I couldn't recommend it more.

Stayed at the Langham just after Christmas as part of a oach trip with David Urquhart. Good value. Comfortable hotel in a good position, right on the sea front, but quite a walk from town. The evening entertainment was gentle and pleasant, appropriate for the middle aged audience.
Our room was very well presented - newly decorated, but small and at the back of the hotel.
Food was fine - not great but of acceptable quality, given the price that we paid for the holiday package. The young waiters and waitresses did their jobs well.
The only major problem was having to take on the role of a second class citizen. As part of the Urquhart group, we had no flexibility of meal times and limited choice of food. (Even when we ordered what appeared to be the same meal as a 'real' guest, we got less in quantity and variety of accompaniments.) Although the dining rom was open for quite long periods, we had to eat at shared tables at a precisely given time. Real guests appeared to have greater choice in when to eat, what to eat and the quality of their meals.

I booked over 70 people into this hotel last October for an accordion music festival and would like to congratulate the hotel for doing such a fine job. They bent over backwards to meet our every need. Our own comment cards returned a venue rating of over 93%. The hotel has a reputation for excellent food and it lived up to it. The only complaint we had about food for one gentleman was there was too much.

I am aware that the owner of the Langham hotel has spent a lot of money on refurbishing what used to be a tired Victorian building. All public rooms are very presentable, clean and plush. On the downside there are still a few bedrooms that need more work but I know that is being worked on as an on going process. Our bedroom was warm, comfortable (great bed and pillows), clean and double glazed (something that not many Eastbourne hotels have). Secure parking for our whole group was specially arranged just a few hundred yards away.

All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel, the staff were brilliant. I hope to be back there again very soon!

Stayed at the Langham after booking last minute. Check in was quick and the rooms we stayed in was spacious, clean, light and airy. We took a double with sea view which was great as the Eastbourne beach. Sleep was not great as the windows are not double glazed well and road noise can easily be heard. Also the curtains are not a black out style so something to bear in mind. Breakfast was good with pleanty of choice. The decor of the hotel is fun with lots of old newspaper copies with interesting memborilia. Helpful receptionists with advice on where to eat and go on a wet August weekend :-( ensured a nice stay. Short stroll to the Pier with atractions to the left and right when you leave the hotel

I returned to a favourite hotel as usual I had a wonderful stay with nothing too much trouble for any of the staff. What I like about this hotel is that where ever you go in the hotel the cleanliness is faultless. Good food, good staff and the terrace at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea is super to sit on with a drink, bar meal, your breakfast, afternoon tea or even a meal from the al la carte menu with a nice bottle of wine. That is where I managed to accquire my excellent sun tan and I must admit those extra few pounds due to eating too much of the very good food on offer. I look forward to my next visit if you are looking for a hotel who cares about there guests having a faultless stay then this is for you.

We stayed one night after dropping the kids off at the grandparents. The downstairs of the hotel is well furbished but the rooms are slightly lacking although we are led to believe they are going to be refurbished as well. In all honestly we were a bit disappointed at the state of the room ( well worn ) but the staff were wonderful. The room was clean but small. We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the afternoon ( on the terrace ) and then went for dinner. Upon our return we went to our room but fancied another drink so came back downstairs to the bar. The night porter served all of us all night without fuss ( we had got chatting to some people on a coach tour ). The clienetele were significantly older than us but we had a great time. We felt very welcome. We have stayed in numerous hotels in Eastbourne but this felt the best.
