In Eastbourne for a funeral. Been to the town many times, but never stayed in a hotel there before. Stayed for 2 nights, post-funeral reception was held there.

Online booking - straight forward. Didn't give me any choice for having a sea view and the place wasn't full. Window in room looked towards the bins which were emptied on the Wednesday morning but not too early.

Reception - rang before arriving to say that I would be arrving late-ish which was not a problem. Was told there would not be a problem parking at this time of year as there would be plenty of space on the side streets. After unloading at the front of the hotel I then ended up parking about 400 yards away which is okay for me but would it be for others? I had difficulty parking whenever I went out in the car and it's not peak season.

Room - bathroom had been recently done up and shower was good, bedroom needed doing too. Saw another room where the room had been well renovated but not the bathroom! We didn't spend much time in the bedroom anyway so it was adequate for our needs. One of my relatives was interrupted by a cleaner at 8-55am who unlocked and opened the door just as he was getting his trousers on!

Breakfast - plenty of choice, all waiter service. You can have juice or cereals, not both. Cooked breakfast was ok, but on the first day I had a tablespoon size of baked beans and another of mushrooms. I assume that they cater for the older persons appetite as they seem to attract coach holidays. My retired father-in-law wouldn't have been impressed!

Waiter - I was there with a relative and her husband. When taking the breakfast order she was about to give it when the waiter stopped her and said that he would be taking his order first! When he'd done that he then said "and now for your mother"!. I think he needs some lessons on service.

Bar - a very friendly lady serving behind the bar. Chatty and good-humoured. A gold star for her!

Post-funeral event - was held in the bar. The food was very well prepared and a good selection. It was waiter service. What I didn't appreciate was that when a few people had gone they started getting out the duster and polish and when one set of chairs and tables were not being used they brought out the vacuum cleaner, which made it difficult to continue our conversation.

Checking out service - again straight-forward but I thought it was very rude that when the male receptionist was serving me and was in the middle of a conversation, he answered the phone!

Like I say, it was adequate and fit for purpose. Doubt I'll need to go there again.

Just back from the Langham. A really nice stay. The staff I found to be very friendly and took the time to chat and offer an excellent service. Nice atmosphere about the place. Breakfast in the morning was tasty and well presented eaten overlooking the sea in the conservatory part of the restaurant.

Location at the east end of the promenade facing the sea. Sovereign harbour around 1 mile east worth a visit and Birling Gap beach worth the hike over Beachy Head.

Hottest October day ever, at a wedding stuffed into suits, keen to cool off, brought us to the Langham where we had booked for one night as the reception was there. An all round nice place. It's daft to describe places in Eastbourne as dated because you don't go there if you want cutting edge. It would be like buying a CD of 1950's music and moaning it was a bit old-fashioned. However it's comfortable, dependable, familiar and friendly, with a brilliant team of waiters and waitresses (great daytime barman - really attentive). The view is spectacular as long as you are at the front! Coming from Brighton I threw open the window at 2am and looked left and right, a view stretching a mile in each direction at least) and ... not a sound! No person or even a cat stirred. Now this was a new experience! One thing - slightly firmer pillows would be nice. The catering for the wedding reception was very proficient and well managed. Food was very good. Who would have guessed back in August, when I chose soup for a starter, the temperature outside was going to be 85 degrees?

We booked at the last minute and got a perfectly adequate room at the back, with a good shower.
As we were among the few people who weren't with a group, we had a good table on the enclosed terrace overlooking the sea for both dinner and breakfast. The fixed-price dinner was very good in terms of variety, quality and value for money, and the service was exceptionally friendly.
The hotel is just by the Redoubt with bus stops for the town centre and Hastings right outside.

I really do feel sorry for these huge Victorian seaside hotels! Opulent during those long-gone days, they struggle to meet standards expected and needed during the 21st. Century.

Stopped here during the weekend of Airbourne, and was really a last moment decision. First problem was the parking. Told over the phone that parking was around the corner at the TA Centre and that a place had been reserved for us, only to be told on arrival (2 days later!) that the TA Centre was being used by the Army all weekend and wasn't available! Receptionist advised that we had to "take a chance in the backstreets!" Eventually found a space 10 minutes walk away but hardly satisfactory.

Given a room at the back of the Hotel, not a problem as we had booked late, but room was very very hot, with the windows sealed. Asked for a fan only to be told "not allowed as its a Health and Safety issue". Room decor was dated but otherwise clean and acceptable. Water was very hot, bordering on scalding, in the bathroom..beware!

Breakfast was adequate, but do prefer the buffet style instead of the individual ordering system.

Staff nice and helpful and to be fair, apologetic, with our niggles. I do realise that its not their fault and maybe its us getting older, but adequate on-site car-parking and air-conditioning need to be the norm these days.

We stayed Friday and Saturday night in September 2011 for a ladies festival and I have to say the staff were very attentative, helpful and always available.

The rooms were clean, tidy and typical for this aged hotel.

The location is very good and easy to find, parking although not on site is well arranged.

But saving the best till last the food was first class.

We'd stay again - Thanks for a great weekend.

The location of this hotel on Eastbourne sea front gives easy access to the town and transport links. Our room was of a high standard with sea views. Staff were very freindly and welcoming and always on hand to assist. The general manager always seemed to be on duty and was attentive and a really nice guy. Food was excellent and was of a high standard in terms of quality and presentation. I personally prefer a buffett style breakfast for non cooked breakfast elements and felt that the price of the full english was £2.00 overpriced. Over all highly recomended.

my wife and i along with 9 personal friends attended my masonic lodge ladies festival weekend , we all agreed that the quality of the food, the cleanliness and most of all the staff were second to none. I must give a special mention to the manager, nothing was too much trouble for him he was attentive and available at all times and made everybody welcome, also theyoung lady who i assume was the under manager on reception, and the first point of contact was couldn't have been improved upon. I, only reluctantly, must make one criticism that being the lack of any form of air conditioning in the main dining/function room which did slightly affect the enjoyment, of an overal excellent weekend.

The staff were the BEST thing about this Hotel, but almost everything else was a very close second My wife and I stayed overnight after a wedding and the facilities were excellent.I was told when booking that most of the rooms had a sea view, but by the time I found our room was tucked to the rear of the building the Hotel was full (because of the wedding) so we did not have the view we had hoped. However I cannot fault the room it was very clean and there were even toiletries in the very nice, if a bit compact shower. The food was excellent, the full English was very nice and as much toast as you could wish, and the all important FRESH pot of TEA.
The only reason I have not given this Hotel 5 stars is because of the mix-up over the room,(possibly a bit harsh) I would definately return to this Hotel

For 35 pounds, I couldn't expect more.
A basic single room with sea view. A great breakfast while looking at the beach and very nice service.
Not sure the a more expensive rate (sometimes they charge 60 or more for this room) would be worth.

Me and my husband went for a week end and stayed in a room with sea view. It was very confortable and the view amazing.
The hotel has also a nice bar and guests can enjoy a drink also late at night. Staff is really well trained and kind.
We will be back there soon.

We booked for one night in June whilst visiting relatives.

The room was very clean - had everything you need, including toiletries.

The staff were friendly and it was wonderful to see them looking after a dear old lady who lives in Eastbourne, but has no sea view, so she comes every year to spend time overlooking the sea .. had a great chat with her.

Breakfast was lovely .. and sat in the conservatory overlooking the sea and towards the pier .. I relaxed totally.

We stayed here last year and it only gets better. The rooms are nice and clean along with the beds- A pet hate of mine we strip the beds before emptying the cases.
The breakfast couldn't be better and the staff were excellent.
If it wasn't for the long distance from Wales would use more often.

Stayed for one week commencing 10th August and was impressed with friendly welcome accompanied by prompt and efficient service from Reception meaning that within minutes I was in my room. Unfortunately my room was at the back of the hotel but on the plus side I was given a double room for sole use. Decor and furnishings showed "quality" but seemed generally "tired" and in need of refurbishment. The room and en-suite was all spotlessly clean with the en-suite offering bath and shower. Loads of cupboard space with plenty of hangers in wardrobe. Unusually, bedding consisted of sheets and blankets instead of modern duvets but importantly the bed was very comfortable and I slept well. The room was thoroughly serviced each day and hospitality tray restocked (with biscuits as well!) My only moan about the room was that the sash window would not stay up and the maid wedged the TV remote in it to keep it open. I actually bought a cheap rubishy video from a charity shop and used that for the week - after all I wanted the remote for it's proper purpose. When I had a look round the back of the hotel I noticed a few other windows had wedges holding them open too. The front of the hotel has a beautiful gleaming white facade and looks so attractive but like others the back is never the same!

Service at breakfast was abolutely first class with plenty of waiters on duty meaning there was no waiting for orders to be taken or for food to arrive. The breakfast menu carried a good selection of fruit juices, cereals, and then the "full English" breakfast which I had each day. Food was attractively served and looked most appetising which was backed up by great taste - well done Chef! I thought the "full English" could have been a bit fuller in that there was a tiny egg (never seen such a small one), piece of bacon, half a tomato, four or five little bits of mushroom,a sausage, a quarter slice of fried bread and finally a few baked beans (few enough to be counted, 69 one morning - how sad is that) Such a shame that it was such a small fry-up when it was so delicious! Endless toast was offered and refills of tea/coffee. I can only think that they aimed their portion size toward the bulk of their other guests - mainly elderly coach groups -who would perhaps find this quite adequate.

The Langham also advertises their Conservatory Restaurant as being the place to dine - and it truly does look so nice all laid up with spotless white table-cloths and all the glassware - but the menu seemed a bit way out and quite expensive. I didn't eat there so can't comment personally but others seemed well suited with their dining experience.

I was in Eastbourne for the duration of the Airborne Show and though Eastbourne was heaving with people, the Langham was sufficiently away from the noise but near enough to get to all the events. The weather too was good and I loved being in a hotel right opposite the beach, and if I re-visit the area would not hesitate to book in again at the Langham.

Very impressed with the Langham. We had a very comfortable room with sea views. Bathroom new and exceptionally clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. We didn't eat in the restaurant except for breakfast which was a little disappointing given the quality of the hotel. Although 3 stars, we think it is better quality of comfort and service than some 4 star hotels we have stayed in. Thanks.

I booked this hotel on Late Rooms as I needed to book somewhere last minute that had w-fi. I had seen this hotel from the outside and had always been impressed. Before I start - I must stress that this hotel is undergoing a full improvement programme - but I can only base my review on my experience. I was very disappointed when I got to my room. The decor was tired and dated. The paintwork was chipped and cracked and the carpet was threadbare with no underlay. The floor boards were loose and very noisy. The floors were very thin- when the people upstairs came into their room I could hear every footstep, every creak of their floorboards and every word they said. Trying to sleep was a nightmare. The people above me and below me snored - which wouldn't normally be a problem but with floors so thin, they may as well have been sleeping in my room it was so loud. But the bathroom was beautiful! Why hotels insist on putting a shelf above the sink - right in your way when you want to have a wash - is beyond me. Wi-fi access in my room was virtually impossible. When I checked out the gentleman at reception (I think he was a Manager or the owner) said "The Edwardians were very inconsiderate when they built these buildings - they didn't allow for wi-fi". The restaurant was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. Every member of staff I dealt with (except the man on reception) was lovely. Very professional and polite. My room was not of 3 star standard and had I paid full rate - I would have been mortified. I did see some of the other rooms as I passed them being cleaned and they were stunning. Check which room you're going to be in before you book.

After holding our Staff christmas party at the Langham we found the meal to be well above the quality usually found at these occasions so we felt that the restaurant food would probably be excellent. After returning a few months later we were not wrong.

We asked to sit in the conservatory part of the restaurant overlooking the sea. The table was set with lovely crisp linen and sparkling cutlery.

We had the set price lunch which was reasonably priced. There was a comprehensive choice on the menu with the option to upgrade if required.

The staff were attentive and helpful. A lovely way to spend a sunday lunchtime.

We have also popped there on various occasions for a bar lounge lunch which was also very nice, especially if the weather is nice enough to sit on the outside terrace.

After a unanamous vote we have re-booked our staff christmas party at the Langham for this year.

We were very impressed by our spacious room. It was clean and well equipped. The views were fanatastic, it was so nice to wake up and see the sea through the large windows.
We had complimentary port and whisky so it was a real treat to sit at the well placed chairs by the windows and enjoy our drink!
We have a young son and the staff were always keen to help to warm his food etc.

My only negative comment would be the breakfast which was very nice but seemed to be rationed!! its not self service so they obviously make sure they control the portion sizes.
Overall a very lovely break in an extremely nice hotel.

Situated on the seafront on the east side of the Pier. Rooms at the front have gorgeous sea views. Views at the back of hotel not so great. Staff are lovely, friendly, helpful, efficient. The manager is a gem. Attentive, friendly, has an eye for detail, genuinely makes you feel like you matter and your quality of stay is important to him. The food......OMG, amazing!!! It comes out hot, beautifully presented and so so wonderful to eat. The room I had, although at the back and very lacking in view, was clean, comfortable, very nice bathroom and had tea making facilities and tv.The decor was contemporary and in good order. I had a wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table with bedside cabinets. My room was a twin room. Some of the wedding party did say their rooms were on the small side and had small bathrooms. I would absolutely stay there again. The breakfast was lovely. Full English with rack of toast, pot of coffee or tea and fruit juice or a continental. I had full a full English which was plenty and came out hot and nicely presented.

The rooms are date and remind me of student accomodation- nothing like the recently renovated ones on their website. Service was great but could not make up for the very disappointing rooms.

An excellent week's stay in this hotel. The service was first class with friendly, efficient staff. The hotel is gradually being refurbished generally but we found no fault with our, as yet, unfurbished room! The views were perfect, the room clean and comfortable and the housekeeping speedy and thorough. This was a bowls' tour tour of 40 or so people so our dining was of necessity limited but we had adequate choice and the food was well cooked, well presented and efficiently served by friendly waiters and waitresses. Our final dinner was a tour de force!

We have just spent another great weekend at The Langham hotel and would like to say that once again we were looked after extremely well. The service and accommodation were first class and the standard of the food was excellent. Congratulations to the chef and all the team at the Langham.

The Langham is on the sea front. Our room was large and comfortable, overlooking the sea and we loved it. (Room sizes and outlooks vary). Excellent food in the restaurant. Secure parking is about 100m from the hotel.
