You really don't have to look much further than Langham Hotel for a great place to stay in Eastbourne. My husband and I have visited it on more than one occasion and it has been consistently good on each occasion.
The hotel is in an excellent location, situated within a short walk of all amenities in Eastbourne but not so close as to be bothered by any noise from the town late at night. On each occasion we have been we have booked a parking space at the back of the hotel which is well worth the small fee.
The staff who welcome you in are warm and friendly as are all the staff. It should be noted that the staff do not seem to change from one stay to the next which I'm sure in a competitive field of the hotel industry has to mean that the owner is good to work for and keeps the staff happy.
We have stayed on each ocasion in one of the superb four poster rooms. Try and pick one away from the lift area as this one can be a bit noisy with people moving around the hotel but the others were quieter. The beds are very comfortable and the pillows are so good I am trying to track their supplier down to try and buy a couple.
The bar has a great range of the usual drinks and a lovely food menu. We enjoyed quite a few afternoons on the terrace overlooking the beach watching the world go by.
I would definitely recommend asking before you book if it is possible to have the a la carte menu. The restaurant has won AA rosettes for its food and service and it really was a gorgeous appetising meal which offered extremely good vcalue for money given the time it takes to prepare and cook the dishes on the menu.
Enjoy your stay everyone. We did!

We were looking for somewhere to take my mum for a couple of days. She is terminally ill and wanted to take her to the seaside one more time. We have fond memories of Eastbourne so started looking for a suitable hotel.
When I called the Langham they couldn't have been more helpful and understanding. I wanted to ensure my mum had a nice sea view room and thats exactly what she was given. I had called ahead of time to enquire about hiring a wheelchair while we were there and they suggested a company to call and gave me their number. I believe the receptionist I spoke to a couple of times at the hotel was Faye. Very professional and helpful.
When we arrived I called to request the wheelchair and it was delivered within the hour (£5/day and free delivery and collection!). Mums room was one of the rooms that had been modernised and was lovely. Ours was one of the older rooms which had seen better days but was sufficient for us. All staff were very friendly and helpful.
I had previously looked on the hotel website for details of their restaurant. The menu looked superb and thought it would encourage mum to eat as there was several fish dishes on the menu. We booked a table the first night but when we were seated, the menu was nearly the same as the regular hotel menu. When I queried this I was told that the a la Carte menu was not offered during July. I feel this should have been mentioned on the website. Even though the menu was not as unusual as the one we were looking forward to, in all the food was nice and the price very reasonable. Breakfast was also lovely and my mum ate more in the two days we were there than she had in a while.
On the second night there was a quiz and bingo night. Unfortunately most of the guests that had packed out the bar area the night before had gone on a trip to the theatre so was not many people there. We won the quiz and the bingo which was lovely!!

Word of warning. The lift is very small and as it reaches the required floor, does so with a thump (very un nerving if not prepared for it!)

Want to say a big thank you to Norman the barman. Very friendly and down to earth. Made us all laugh!! Almost forgot, the Langham is right on the seafront so lovely views

Would recommend this hotel mostly for the older guest.

I have recently returned from another trip to the Langham (booked last year before my last trip). The Hotel is still extremely comfortable and the staff very friendly but the group I was with found the evening meals very unappetising. The food was very badly prepared, cooked and served and the choice very limited. The Restaurant Manager was conspicuous by his absence. The breakfasts however, were very well cooked and presented.

My Ex-Workmates have a Cheltenham Week whereby we stay at a hotel or hire a cottage and have a boys [ old men, really ] week watching the racing and having some beers. We used to go to Cheltenham itself but as we have aged and the prices at Cheltenham have become astronomical one of us is charged each year to arrange the meeting place.
As my pals were Kent and Sussex based and as I'd been to this hotel once before , I rang up and booked a 4 night stay to coincide with the Cheltenham meeting.
We shared rooms and had rooms with sea views for £60 per room which included a full English breakfast, which incidentally is a served breakfast as opposed to a buffet version.
All of our rooms were clean and seemed redecorated. The bathroom in one of the rooms was a tad small but we all were pleased with the accomodation and the price.
On one of the nights we ate at the restaurant for £12.50 for a 3 course meal. The food was excellent and the ingredients were of high quality. Wine seemed reasonably price.
The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Kirby and some of the staff remembered me from my previous stay but all of them were very pleasant and attentive.
Indeed, on our third night , there was a book launch. The owner Neil Kirby had written a warts and all book called "Celebrity Hotel" about all the celebrities he had looked after as General Manager of the Grosvenor Hotel in Park Lane. He kindly asked if we would like to attend. The hotel was packed and our party enjoyed complimentary champagne, wine and a meal in the restaurant with entertainment afterwards. We were really impressed with the generous spirit and some of us even bought the book, and a good read it is too!
Finally, one last incident to demonstrate that the hotel still has the personal touch and tries to go the extra mile was that on 2 of our racing afternoons staff wheeled out a TV into the lounge so that we could all eat and drink together whilst we watched our Cheltenham selections.
Although we shared mixed fortunes at the races, we all gave our stay a big "thumbs-up"

Stayed for a few days. First impression was of very friendly and helpful staff. Usual problem with old seafront hotels regarding parking. In that you have to unload the car and then take it to the secure park some way away. An easy walk but rotten if raining. Then a bit of a hassle if you want to go anywhere in the car, as you have to request a swipe card from reception to gain access to the car park, that you have to return to reception, before going anywhere. Then request again on return. An alternative is to search for free on street parking in the side streets.

Very nice public lounges with friendly bar staff and very reasonable priced food and drink. Sadly the toilets off the lounges are not that impressive. I always feel that nice toilet and hand washing facilities in the public areas of hotels say so much about the place and really give them the advantage over the majority of restaurants and cafes. Here, it's not very impressive, having only one pump action soap dispenser and one very inefficient hand blow dryer in loos that badly need renovating.

There is a clanky old lift, that to be fair, does it's job. However, using it is preferable to using the stairs if you want to get to your room in a hurry. The hotel, being made up of a row of Victorian terraced houses has a multitude of stairs and passageways that badly need better signage. The corridors and stairs are nicely carpeted but are rather narrow, making carrying luggage a little difficult.

We had a large room with sea view. It was very nicely decorated and very clean.
A very pleasant surprise was the use of good quality bedding with crisp white sheets and blanket, rather than the clammy cheap synthetic continental quilts used by so many hotels these days.

There was no bath, but a very nice shower and the plumbing actually worked beautifully. Plus a good supply of quality towels.

The staff in the restaurant were excellent and the food, in general pretty good. While the breakfast was very nicely cooked to order, it would have been nice to have had the juices and cereals available as self serve.

In general all the staff were very approachable and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble. They try very hard to lessen the impact of the limitations of a very old building.

I haven't been able to rate the rooms and sleep quality as we didn't actually stay here, just went for a meal, but it was so good I wanted to write a review.
I am ashamed to say that despite living in Eastbourne for 26 years I had never been through the door of the Langham Hotel before. My loss! A voucher was printed in the local paper for 3 courses for £10, so four of us decided to give it a try. To be honest, we weren't expecting much for that price, but how wrong we were! The food was excellent, and plenty of it, and the service was first class. Even the full price of £12.50 for 3 courses would be a steal. How do they do it?The hotel seems to cater for coach parties, as the restaurant had lots of large tables, and the atmosphere was almost like a Christmas party - there was a real buzz. We didn't see them as we were still eating, but there were singers from a cruise ship downstairs who sounded very good.
I've had a look at the hotel website this morning, and there is also a more select Conservatory restaurant with a classier menu, but still cheap at £23 for 3 courses.
Having been tempted in by a special offer, this is definitely one we would return to again and again. Brilliant!

As the organiser of my Walking Group’s “Week-End Break”, I cannot recommend The Langham Hotel highly enough. This is now our group’s third successive year at this Hotel and my wife and I have also stayed there on many other occasions. Ideally situated as it is for walking on the South Downs, the Langham’s rooms are very clean , comfortably modern, and stylishly furnished. The staff are, without exception, friendly, helpful and most attentive. The Restaurant is first class and the food is always very good.
The Langham is a hotel which combines high standards of service, a warm and welcoming atmosphere and excellent value for money. In my view it deserves a higher rating than its present 3 star status. My thanks to all who make our stay such a pleasant experience.

Our family stayed for 4 nights in this hotel. The position is excellent and the view over the sea was beautiful. Our double room was spacious and clean albeit a little dated. The bathroom is in need of updating and the shower was poor. The twin room was dark with no outlook the shower again was poor but the room was clean.
Breakfast was served in the resturant which was clean light and airy and there was also a conservatory area. There is a wide choice at breakfast which is served at your table.
The hotel staff were lovely very helpful and polite the manager was also helpful and accomodating. Clean and basic in places but well worth a stay. Good value for money.

I have just returned from a stay in the Langham Hotel and found that the rooms were very clean and comfortable (we did pay for an upgrade to a sea view!) and the staff very friendly. However, the service in the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired!! We were ushered out of the dining room on the Saturday evening, some of us not finishing our dessert or coffee, because they had a Masonic Ladies Festival booked in! Breakfast on the Sunday morning took over an hour with orders for cereal, coffee and juice, not being taken until 8.40 an then only 50% of the table being served. The main orders were delivered approx 9.10 with the waiting staff trying to take orders for the evening meal!

Room 131. Cold in room had to ask for additional blanket, poor dated decor 1970's. Cooked breakfast was small portions. Room not as shown on web site, we were so displeased with the room that we checked out after 1 night, no sound insulation in room could hear people moving about in next room and bathroom. Outside the window was a large flood light and the curtains were insufficient to block out the light. When the light went out about 11pm. There was a belisha beacon on the zebra crossing which caused a flashing light in the room. There was no parking with the hotel yet on the booking it said there was parking we were offered a space at £10 a night. The parking they referred to was on the public road !!! All this for £100 a night, we could not stop there.

Trying to get a good deal for a few days away as a short break has its challenges but not for the Langham. When we made an enquiry we were given all the information needed and offered an excellent package for a two night stay. Booking took a few minutes. On arrival we felt welcomed and were shown our room, a recently refurbished one, decorated to a high standard and overlooking the beach and pier. We liked the L.S. Lowry prints hanging on the walls. An ideal location for us to explore villages and towns along the coast and return to an evening meal in the conservatory restaurant which had a good choice on the menu and the meal we ordered was excellent value for money. We were unrushed and the service top notch. Breakfast in the mornings was again to a high standard and there was a wide range of options available. Staff smiled and made sure everyting was to our satisfaction. Nice to meet other residents and enjoy friendly conversation in the bar. Well done everyone at the hotel for making our stay one to remember.

I have stayed at the Langham Hotel many times, the last time being in December 2009. The staff are always friendly and helpful, especially Mirko the waiter and Katie the waitress, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and value for money.

The hotel is currently refurbishing its bedrooms and corridors but don't be put off if you get one of their older style rooms, they are always spotlessly clean and very acceptable. They key thing to keep in mind is just how little time you actually spend in your room, and the other facilities of the hotel more than make up for the bedroom decor.

Booked a single en-suite room with partial sea view for £30.00 which I thought was excellent value for money.

The receptionist was very friendly, helpful and courteous; the hotel, situated in a quieter part of the seafront) has a very relaxed and homely feel to it which was appreciated. My room was a little dated in decor - they clearly make an effort but some of it needed work i.e. peeling paint and some poor "patch-up" jobs with filler in the door frames etc but ok considering the price.

The hotel is most definately for the more mature traveller but does not shy away from the fact and the staff were friendly and courteous to all.

Overall, quite good. Didn't have the breakfast as missed my alarm call (woke over an hour past the checkout time but the receptionists were fine, no problems). I would visit again but perhaps not go out of my way to visit. If you are looking for a reasonably decent quality room for a low price, I would recommend it.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at The langham Hotel with Diamond Coches for my 18th birthday. After we checked in, we went to our room and was very surprised! The deco wasnt that great but it was clean and warm and so was the bathroom. We unpacked shortly afer arriving and went down for dinner. The food was amazing! Having said that, I did get a little confused with which fork and knife to use first but so did everyone else!...After finishing our 3 course meal, we went to the bar for an hour as we were both tired after 6 hours of travelling! A 5-10 minute walk to the kareoke bar which was quite good and a 10 minute walk to the pier and town. Definately going back there next year for my Birthday!

If you are looking for a hotel where the customer is number one on the proprietors list then look no further than The Langham Hotel. This hotel is family owned and run by Mr & Mrs Kirby who actually work themselves on a daily basis in the hotel. All the staff are polite, professional and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, the rooms are spotlessly clean and there is good entertainment of an evening if you so wish. As soon as one enters the Langham the welcoming atmosphere can be felt. After staying at many many hotels all over the world over the years, it is nice to find a hotel where there is nothing one could possibly find fault with. The Langham gives 5 star treatment even though the hotel is only 3 star, certainly value for money, a good and memorable stay especially after the food eaten and no faults to be found in any area what more can one ask for. We look forward to our next visit and recommend this Hotel without hesitation.

Got a great deal for bed, breakfast and evening meal directly from the hotel. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent with generous portions. We have stayed here with friends on a number of occasions and have always had great service. The hotel is gradually being updated. The restaurant, reception and bar areas are very pleasant. Our room was smaller than most and at the back of the hotel, so no sea view, but it was modern and in very good condition with a generous, modern bathroom. Our friends were in a room that had not been updated, but both rooms were extremely clean and pleasant. The staff here are superb, especialy Andrew the general manager. The owners eat and drink here and nothing is too much trouble when it comes to helping their guests to enjoy their stay. We will be returning with friends in 2010.

Hotel is dated and some areas roooms do need modernising, however it is clean, warm in winter and in a good location with sea views, only a short walk away from the shops, bars and restaurants. The Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had in a hotel in a long time, Excellent. For the price we paid for a double room it was very good value. Lots of parking along the side streets surrounding the hotel.

I have a new southern based lady friend who although living not too far from Eastbourne had never stayed in any of the hotels.I suggested that we meet in Eastbourne a few days later. Wanting to impress [ at a reasonable cost ], I started ringing round a few hotels and on my third call got a really good deal and booked for the following Sat.
We were to have a prominent sea-facing room with a 4 poster bed . Also included was a bottle of champagne and strawberries in our room and breakfast for both of us. We agreed £120 but I believe it is normally more.
When we arrived we were able to park freely adjacent to the hotel . We were warmly greeted and shown to our room. My girlfriend was impressed with the room The room had a fabulous view over the sea. The bathroom was elegantly tiled and decorated in a kind of art nouveau style. We had chairs and table ideally placed to allow us relaxing panoramic views . An additional nice touch was decanters full of port and sherry which were complimentary.
We ate in the restaurant that evening and enjoyed an excently priced and tasty meal washed down with a competively priced bottle of wine.
By a fluke Wayne Fontana [ a quite famous pop singer of the 60s ] was staying at the hotel and provided us and fellow guests with a one hour show in the entertainment hall.
I think that entertainment is provided regularly.
Breakfast was lazily enjoyed in the conservatory part of the restaurant overlooking the sea.
We loved the whole style of the hotel and have already booked for Jan.to celebrate our 3 month anniversary.

What a transformation this hotel has undergone since my last stay! I could hardly believe that it was the same place ,as the reception, bar, lounge, restaurants etc have been totally refurbished and it looks like a different hotel. Even the ceilings have been raised. The last time I stayed at the Langham was in 2003 and I was not at all happy. it looked jaded, dingy and out of date, and the staff lacked enthusiasm. I remember ordering a cream tea, which was advertised on a big banner outside, only to be told that they weren't sure if they could do one as the chef was off. I waited about half an hour and eventually a boy dumped two dry scones in front of me, a packet of butter, a plastic pack of jam, and a quarter pint carton of cream with the lid still on. No effort made at all.
When I booked for a coach trip to Eastbourne this year and found that it was the Langham again, my heart sank. But apparently it is now under new ownership, and what a difference that has made. The staff were all bright, friendly and happy. The food was faultless (obviously a new chef!) and beautifully served. The whole hotel felt much more luxurious than before, and it was a pleasure to stay there. We had entertainment every evening, and the hotel now seems busy and has clearly had new life breathed into it. Everyone in our coach party seemed very taken with the Langham, and it is in a superb position on the promenade too.
If I had to find fault, I would say that my room was in need of redecoration, but that is a minor thing. The room was clean, the water was hot, and the housekeeping staff were friendly. I have now booked myself in for Christmas and New Year.

This has to be the place to stay, first class service from all of the staff who are all so friendly. Rooms and spotless and very clean, nothing is to much trouble for any of the staff. Food is excellent and of a very high standard.

All the staff were friendly & helpful and the bar & lounge were very nicely furnished & decorated, the food was quite good but very portion controlled., breakfast was very good. Our room was basic but clean, could do with redecorating the best bit was the seaview from the bay window I could have sat there all day. Stayed for 5 days half board would like to have stayed longer. Will be back as long as we can have a seaview room would not consider otherwise.

I have stayed at The Langham quite a few times, but always because I have booked it via a website like Late Rooms and have got a good deal; I would never pay the full price at The Langham. If you are given a room at the front, with a sea view, you probably won't have too much to complain about. However, if you are given a room at the back, the view will be absolutely dire: bins, derelict buildings and dingy roofs. Parking is also a nightmare throughout the year. On the plus side, however, the breakfast is good! Personally, I would stay there again (I know what I would be getting) but I would be very wary about recommending it to my friends.

I was delighted with the location of the hotel, overlooking the sea and the pier. It was a busy weekend and there was a Ladies' Masonics party staying on the Saturday night, so instead of a room on the first floor which I had booked, I was also given the option of a room higher up just in case the party was noisy. The room was clean, bright and had a sea view, so I had no complaints. There was a good choice of food for breakfast, and it arrived hot - which is one thing I look for in a hotel. The staff were polite and helpful, so no complaints. I gather that the rooms are currently being updated. and once this is completed it will be a fantastic hotel.

very disappointed this time. Gruby little room overlooking the back. My parents had asked for a seaview in plenty of time but did not get one- also my dad is in a wheelchair and was given a tiny room with no room to manoever. Food not so good pretty average and was asked many times if we had ordered. Also the toast came to early and was cold.
Will not be going back to this hotel.

Hi

Just returned from a lovely weekend in Eastbourne. We weren't expecting much considering we paid £50 for the room a night (what do you expect for £50 a room with breakfast for a sea facing room!?!?!?!). Have to say, we were quite impressed.

OK, the room looked like it hadn't been decorated since the 90's and the curtains were as thin as paper. But the room was exceptionally clean (bathroom spotless) and it was sea-facing. The hotel should be commended for the overall cleanliness of this hotel and should keep up the good work as i think this is the most important thing. Who wants a nice looking but dirty hotel?!?

Breakfast was in the restaurant and, although looked very nice and was hot, was absolutely tasteless. But, it filled a gap I suppose. Breakfast staff very friendly and helpful.

Staff are super friendly (especially the night porter - come bar man - come general everything) and the receptionist.

Its got a nice family feel about this hotel and we will definitly be returning when we visit friends in Eastbourne. BUT we wouldn't book "just for a weekend away".
