The wind blowing hats off. When entering, on the right side of the main gate, you can go down to the dungeon and see the terrible conditions the prisoners were kept in.

An interesting historical site - near the landing of William the Conqueror. Much of castle is ruined, one or two rooms to go in plus the dungeon.

The remains of Pevensey Castle may not look like much but they are historically important. Pevensey Castle has looked like a ruin for most of its existance. The castle was originally Roman but was most significant during the Medieval Era.
I didn't know that Pevensey Castle was used during World War Two as a garrison. If in Pevensey or nearby, do make a trip here. You can walk around the castle for free using the footpath leading across the field if you just want a photo. The castle is owned by English Heritage so it is best to purchase membership if possible, otherwise there is a high entrance fee. I really enjoyed my afternoon here.

It’s a ruin but many features are intact, it has an unusual keep and was even used for defence as recently as world war 2. Recent works has seen a museum room added and the dungeons open all year. Nice little shop and knowledgeable staff

We visited Pevensey Castle a couple of years ago and English Heritage have spent quite a bit of money repairing and improving the visitor experience since then. For example the floor in the dungeon has been raised with a metal platform, which means you are not stepping down into 6-inches of water if it has been wet! Make sure you use the free audio guide when going round the castle, as it contains lots of useful information and makes sure you don't miss any fascinating corners.

Lovely couple of hours spent having a peaceful.picnic amongst the ruins of this beautiful little castle. So much history within it's walls - really interesting to learn so much from the new exhibits. A lovely place if you want a calm couple of hours!
