Pevensey Castle is a great family day out in East Sussex. With a history stretching back over 16 centuries, Pevensey Castle chronicles more graphically than any other fortress the story of Britain's south coast defenses.

You can explore the dark dungeon, discover our brand new museum and exhibition.

Beginning in the 4th century as one of the last and strongest of the Roman 'Saxon Shore' forts.

A fine castle with a very crucial role in Englands past. Was very interesting seeing how the castle used to be on the coast and is now quite far inland.

So much history and such a lovely place to walk round. Quite a bit of the castle itself was shut off for repairs (but then it is out of season) otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Stunning site to walk around on a sunny February day. The inner part of the castle was closed but a very pleasant morning stroll.

Mostly outdoors but you get inside the towers at one level, the dungeon is open to view and there is a two storey educational display. There is a view from the top and a walk around most of the outside. Standard national trust shop with helpful staff. Public toilets in the car park and copious tea food coffee and beer venues very close by

We really enjoyed our visit here, walking around the battlements was really interesting especially with the view it offered. When we went it was very windy, if you suffer from a fear of heights then I would wait for a calm day.

There were also loads of extra activities that were put on for the children (adults were allowed to have a turn as well) as well as story telling and information about historical treatments for various ailments. The information was presented in an informative and funny manner which meant that the children were fully engaged.

Nice castle with a large history, starting around 1700 years ago. Interesting and impressive information. Nice view and friendly staff in the small shop. Next to the castle is a beautiful tea garden. The entrance fee may be a bit high for what there is to see, but if you keep in mind that this money is used to maintain the castle and save it for later, it is not that bad.

First visit since I was a child and it's still just as lovely. Not much here but the ruins, although the English Heritage audio guide makes for an interesting time.
