We found the hotel wonderful. The staff were really nice and very polite. The food was out of this world. The best food and service we have ever had in a hotel. The only thing that let our stay down was the room. Tucked away in a roof area and all we could see was various parts of the roof. That was a bit disappointing seeing as it was called a delux room. Seeing as we were only the room for a very short time of our stay it did not ruin our break.

Like a faded Duchess, the Grand Hotel Eastbourne welcomes you with the warmth and grace of olde worlde glamour and comforting luxury. From the gorgeous Molton Brown toiletries, to the wonderful staff, it is like staying in a established luxury London Hotel, but near the sea. Loved it!!

We stayed the first day after our wedding. One of the Hotels in the Elite Hotels Group we have stayed at them all and the Grand is truly 'grand' and if you are lucky enough to have a sea view room then it also offers spectacular views.

Our room was very comfortable with a huge bed. The rest of the furniture is rather 'tired' and old-fashioned though. Tea making facilities are provided (although quite minimal) and ther was alosa nespresso coffee machine (again only three coffee pods). There is no fridge, a big minus in a five-star hotel.

Beautiful restaurant and we enjoyed roast beef at its best. Breakfast was a little less perfect. The young female Maitre d' was not in control at all. We (and other guests) were kept waiting several minutes before being acknowledged and shown to a table - it was quite embarrassing waiting around by the entrance with no-one around to meet and greet and the Restaurant was barely a third-full. My wife had almost finished her cooked breakfast before mine had arrived and we had to remind staff twice (it was only two poached eggs after all). My wife's plate was also swept away before I had finished eating which is also bad etiquette. But that aside, a very pleasant stay and staff were very courteous an helpful.

We stayed here for a night and had a very pleasant stay. We got a junior suite which was ok, it had a double bed, a sofa bed, 2 chairs and a small coffee table. I was a tiny bit disappointed, I thought it might be a little grander however it was still very lovely! A chap took us up to the room, made up the sofa bed for my daughter and said if there was anything else we wanted, to go and find him and he’ll get what we need. Lovely experience. The bed was very comfortable so we got a great nights sleep and the shower was ok in the morning. Breakfast.......we had to queue for a bit however it went down pretty quickly and when we got a seat, we were waited on hand and foot so no complaints there. The food (buffet) was hot and tasty with a fine selection. You can of course order from the breakfast menu so again, a good selection. The pools were lovely, we were lucky to have sunshine to enjoy the outdoor pool. Parking was a tiny bit of a problem but nothing too major. We just had to find somewhere out on the road (we were given a ticket for the card by the hotel FOC) I would highly recommend the Grand for any age and any mixture of people.

The Grand Hotel Eastbourne is a unique hotel. The only 5 star hotel set by the seaside. Very unique in its Victorian style. Grand as stated in its name. It felt like we were stepping back in time. Like we were in Downton Abbey or something. We only wished we stayed more than one night. There are only a few hotels which I could rate as very good.

Yes this hotel tends to have older clientele. But this did not make a difference to our stay. We had something to eat in the lounge on arrival. I would state maybe put light dish as a different option. As we found the light dish was very large in deed. It meant there was only room for main and dessert at The Garden Restaurant in the evening. We also had cocktails in the lounge bar. All staff worked to a high standard. We felt like we could have been staying at the Ritz in London.

We checked out the spa. Very quiet most of the time we had the spa to ourselves. The only issue which I feel need to be fixed is that the steam room appears to have some rust issues and their is possible mould around the wall in the spa area. It is also a shame that there is only separate dry spa rooms as we would have liked to go into these areas together. .Did not use outdoor pool as it was slightly gray on our arrival day.

Room was large and spacious. Two beds pushed together as double bed. Bed nice and soft. More than plenty of room to store clothes. Shame there is no in room bar in the room. Although there is a wide range of in room service options. Asked for iron and iron board no issue. A forgotten toothbrush was also not a issue as able to purchase dental kit at hotel. We did not have a sea room. But did not mind about this. There are a few areas of side boards in room which could need a little touching up of paint.

Breakfast very nice at hotel in The Garden Restaurant. Wide range of choice both buffet or to be cooked by chef and brought to the table.

Leaving bags on departure was no issue. Meant we could go and explore Eastbourne for the rest of our day and return for baggage later.

I will write a separate review for The Garden Restaurant. I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing romantic break.

Rooms vary, ours was tiny.....we asked to move . Lovely victorian style, great service and location. Some areas are becoming a looking tired looking but overall it was a lovely relaxing 5 night stay. Tea in the afternoon is a must and breakfast is excellent and the staff are really attentive. Bed linen is high quality. Habe to ask for shower get to be replenished daily!? Receptionists are a little condescending. .

This was a special occasion stay and it didn't disappoint. We had a lovely quiet room, wonderful service. The massage was out of this world, think I fell asleep a bit. It was a real treat! Breakfast was great and set us up for the day. Even my allergies were catered for.

I haven't given it a 5 as I feel the Spa area for seating needs a complete overall. Very compact and not enough space to relax. Otherwise it was amazing. The rooms were the best we've stayed in. I've never slept so well being away from home. The treatments in the Spa were the best we've ever had. The food was amazing. Very expensive for wine/prosecco/cocktails but that wasn't surprising. If you want relaxing and don't mind being around mostly the older generation then this hotel is for you.

We stayed here from 10th to 13th September. This was our third visit to this Hotel and we were not disappointed. When we arrived we were met by the friendly Concierge who carried our luggage to our room on the first floor. The double room was spotless and well presented and the hotel itself has a wonderful ambience. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast lovely too. Fresh and piping hot from the buffet selection or the breakfast can be cooked to order. There is also a vast array of cereals, fresh fruit, etc.
During our stay I used the indoor swimming pool twice and it was lovely. Not crowded mid afternoon and again the staff at the Health Centre very helpful and friendly. Really enjoyed my swims. Sheer bliss.
This hotel deserves its 5***** status and you definitely get 5***** treatment. I cannot wait until next year when we will return for a fourth time.

Grand in name and a grand in experience. From the doorman’s friendly northern welcome and the receptionist (Sarah) who couldn’t do more for me , even arranging room service while busy , to the extremely knowledgable barista Ricardo , who told me of the history of the grand with passion and how the company looks after its staff with pride , this hotel offers superb service from the start. The hotel is a very old very well maintained palace , the rooms are beautiful. With a great selection of teas and beauty products. A bed big enough to sleep ten and a great view of the emerald green sea on the doorstep (even on a rainy day) I only wish I stayed longer than a night . Never is a hotel more deserving of a 5 star rating !

Firstly, let me say I actually felt enormous affection for this place. But not so much for what it is now...

You see, The Grand Hotel is fascinating if you're interested in history. It's heyday was about 100 years ago, when the Great and Good all stayed here. Its grandeur began to fade after the Second World War when its former clientele turned their backs on the English coast and began to go on foreign holidays. Since then - like so many other English seaside hotels, The Grand has had to adapt to different times, and a new clientele.

There remain echoes of its former grandeur, particularly in the pillared entrance hall - where an orchestra once played and was famously broadcast on the 'wireless' each Sunday evening. But... the place is tatty, tired, and in much need of some TLC. The rooms are comfortable, very spacious - and it's well worth paying the extra money for one overlooking the sea. The staff are all lovely, the service is - on the whole - very good, and so is the food, particularly in The Mirabelle - which is just as good as many of the best London restaurants. What lets The Grand down is the decor: the cheap Draylon-covered armchairs (which are everywhere!), the lack of decent furnishings, the chipped paint and cracked tiles; the worn carpet and frayed curtains... I could go on, but I really, truly don't want to.

I just wish someone would invest in this place, restore some of its former glory, put it back on the map, and make it - at least a little bit - more like it once was. Because it could be AMAZING.

If I was going with my romantic heart - and the potential of this place - I'd give it 5 stars... and it saddens me that I can't.

The hotel staff were absolutely lovely and so helpful! We spent a very late night sampling cocktails in the bar, the manageress was so friendly and happy for us to sit there late into the evening. The whole atmosphere was just wonderfully relaxing and you felt nothing was too much trouble. The food was stunning, the pool and spa excellent and all in all I would highly recommend!!

Were very disappointed in the standard of so called deluxe room. Everything else lived up to standard! We mailed Manager to stress disappointment but have not received a reply as yet. Everything else about the hotel was of superior standard!

The Grand truly lives up to the name, a very imposing building on our arrival in the car park we were quickly directed to a parking space, our luggage taken into the hotel and the next time we saw was when we went to our room.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff which is very refreshing in this day and age.

Our first floor room was spacious and well equipped.

The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide range of food available.

Not the cheapest of hotels, but worth the price for a special occasion.

Not the cheapest place to stay, but the service and the breakfast buffet are excellent.Even the bathroom was on highest level as well. The staff is very friendly, there is a large car park. Unfortunately we had no time to use the spa facilities.

Grand structure with some stunning displays for history lover. Service, spa and food was great. However, indoor pool and some other areas are dated and screaming for investment / refurb. Simply not giving you that 5 star value for money feeling throughout.

Also, I have to take another start away for faulty fire alarm system keeping us awake from around 3am one night. Probably another proof that investors should invest a little more into great asset and not just charge quests nearly £1000 for 2 night stay including breakfast and great dinner :-)

There really is not much to say about the "physical" aspects of the Grand Hotel, other than that it very much lives up to its name and reputation. It is a beautiful place, with all the amenities and refinements which would be expected from an hotel of its class, and so from the comfort of our room to the excellence of the food and service there really was nothing which could be faulted.
What I would like to remark upon instead then is the friendliness, which really was nothing short of exceptional. We were given the warmest of welcomes as soon as we checked in - or rather, Czeched in, as the friendly receptionist was from the Czech Republic and was delighted when I gave her both of my only known phrases in her native tongue. This really set the tone for the whole of our stay, as whether it was in the impressive Mirabelles restaurant or from the nice lady on the door of the breakfast room we were always able to enjoy some most pleasant exchanges. And whilst it almost seems wrong to single out any one individual, I have to say that Louisa in the bar not only made us a quite superb cocktail by the name of "chase me round the garden" - made with rhubarb vodka and highly recommendable - but she also took the trouble to show us how to make it and even to say where we could buy the ingredients ourselves, with again many a good laugh along the way. It was this greatly-appreciated friendliness which most enhanced what we had always been expecting to be an impressive stay, and so for us it really made it all the more so.
