We have recently returned from a wonderful weekend break at The Grand Hotel, Eastbourne -it certainly lived up to its name; it’s an attractive, elegant, Victorian hotel with outstanding levels of service. We were delighted with our room – clean, spacious and had all one might expect from a 5-star hotel, we had booked a sea view room but were lucky as we had the added bonus of also having a lovely balcony complete with patio furniture and parasol. We ate in the Garden Restaurant – an attractive, traditional style restaurant – the food was excellent as were the levels of service. The hotel also has another restaurant The Mirabelle -but we did not use this so are unable to comment upon it. The hotel has many places where one can sit and relax: we enjoyed the live music in the Chatsworth Lounge on Saturday night but there is also another large lounge and cocktail bar if you prefer not to listen to the band. There are also a number of smaller seating areas dotted around the hotel plus outside seating areas. The hotel has both a heated outdoor pool plus an indoor pool – we enjoyed using both. There is also a gym but we did not use this so cannot comment upon it. The Grand is situated right on the seafront and is in easy reach of all Eastbourne has to offer. As the hotel was built long before cars were invented it is not surprising that it cannot offer parking spaces for every car; however, there is a car park for about 60 cars which can get full at certain times of the year. One can pre-book a parking space for £25 per night (free for blue badge holders) or take a chance and just turn up and hope space is available – if not, parking is available on the road outside or nearby which one has to pay for. Overall, this was a very enjoyable break; we would certainly consider visiting this hotel again if we were visiting this area.

Really nice hotel, step back in time with great decor and spacious rooms and bars/ restaurants.
Main restaurant closed on Sunday and Monday nights.
Afternoon tea fantastic, good breakfast.
Master suite really spacious, lots of amenities. Could do with a fridge!

Have been many many times to this hotel and we do love it, but I think the young girls in bar need some training as a lot of times had to wait to order drinks as they were chatting amongst themselves. Ate in garden restaurant on the Friday was very nice our waitress was obviously new but lovely. The evening entertainment was so old fashioned they have been there far too long I’m 68 and only recognised 2 songs. Where are all the ballroom dancers? Probably bored with band, it’s about time you had a bit more modern music, strictly come dancing have a more modern feel and can still have ballroom dancers. Love , I think his name is Tony the concierge he always recognises us and very professional. An asset to the Grand

We stayed one night at short notice, booked same day as stayed. Our room was very large but tried. I found cobwebs around the window in the bathroom and the toilet wasn’t very clean. The bed was also very uncomfortable.

I reported and took the cobwebs down to the front desk and they didn’t say very much, apart from sorry.

I found most of the staff very friendly and helpful apart from one woman on the front desk who was very matter of fact and I found her rude for a 5 star hotel.

I would think again before booking in at the hotel again.

Our room with breakfast costed £280.25 for the night!!

Exceptional service by Cole the concierge. Always smiling and ever so helpful. An absolute asset to the business. From assisting with luggage during check in to finding us lost a little bit later with directions to our room. Always checking that we enjoyed our afternoon tea and breakfast. He made our stay a memorable one.

We didn't stay there, but had Afternoon Tea as we had been given a voucher. The Tea was superb, very fresh, and served by extremely polite, friendly and helpful staff. Also, a very helpful young man on the main entrance helped my wife out of our car before I went to park it nearby.
Thanks for an excellent afternoon.

We had lunch here to celebrate my birthday. Cocktails were overly expensive - in excess of London prices. Food was proportionately priced and of a high standard, absolutely delicious. Service was impeccable and faultless. Staff both in the bar and restaurant were fabulous, professional and friendly. Would definitely recommend and will return in the future.

School reunion visit 6 ladies. Loved our time beautiful sea front hotel. All staff were excellent couldn’t fault it and food good. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the very poor cheap quality bedroom furniture and the state of the dressing rooms by the pool area. Ceiling tiles missing and falling down very very shabby

We thought we would treat ourselves to afternoon tea at the Grand having been told we must do by friends who had a few years ago.
Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations especially considering the price of £34.50pp. We have had much better teas for half the price. The waitresses, although very pleasant and helpful had not been trained properly and didn't know how to make a pot of tea, adding hot water to our cups instead of the pot. The food could have been better, nothing special.

We had a lovely stay at The Grand in a suite with balcony and sea view. We were a little Surprised there was no mini fridge in the room although there was a very good room service menu on offer which we didn’t try. Unfortunately the mattress on the bed was far too soft for us but Everything else was very good. We had dinner in the Garden restaurant on 2 nights which was very nice but it is a very traditional set up. If you want less formal there is a menu in the lounge. Breakfast each morning was superb. Plenty of choice from the buffet with fresh fruit, cereals, juice, continental, yogurts, pastries and bread, plus a menu of cooked breakfasts. We also tried the afternoon tea which was nicely served in the lounge. Service was excellent in every respect. We didn’t pre book or pay for onsite parking as felt that £25 per day was expensive when staying for 5 days. We were staying mid week and it wasn’t a problem Monday or Tuesday but by Wednesday the car park was very busy. We just about managed to find a space but at busy times it is necessary to book. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The hotel may be a bit run down here and there but you will not get better service and hospitality in the area. Staff is exceptional, they know what they are doing and that’s why you want to stay at The Grand. Good things to know: hotel gym is fairly well equipped with cardio equipment as well as some free weights (unusual). There are both indoor and outdoor pools. The latter with the drink service available. Exquisite wine selection at all bars and restaurants. The Garden Restaurant is now known as The Mirabelle and offers fantastic fine dining experience. Breakfast selection is ok with cold buffet and cooked breakfast available. Whether it’s a special occasion or a break away I will come back there. Note that some of the rooms are being renovated so there may be some noise should you decide to spend your day in your hotel room.

Extremely pleasant stay. Fantastic setting and so convenient for getting around. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. We had asked for a room with a walk in shower, and this is what we got. Wonderful bed, quality towels and toiletries. Breakfast service fast, and cooked breakfast all you could ask for. Loved the heated outdoor pool!

The hotel “in the day” was very grand indeed but is pretty tired now. Concierge were very nice and welcoming as were the reception staff. Our room was ok but nothing spectacular for a five star hotel. Our bathroom was very dated and the shower kept going from hot to cold, no consistency, the floor when wet is very very slippery indeed. The shower screen was pretty useless to be honest. The wardrobe doors would not close properly and kept opening. You had to ensure the wardrobe doors were held shut so that you could open the bathroom door to enter and then shut the bathroom door to be able to get to the sink. The hotel needs the Alex Polizzi touch frankly. At breakfast four times we told them we did not want eggs on our avocados and when it arrived one arrived with eggs on. It was served on olive bread and the waitress obviously did not know the menu as she kept asking whether we wanted our avocado on brown or white toast. When we had drinks in the bar before dinner I specifically requested NO ICE with my drink and she repeated back to me three times no ice. My drink came with ice so had to be returned. The good is that we ate at the Mirabelle Resturant and although we were kept waiting for more than 6 minutes at the entrance of the restaurant before we were asked our name and taken to our table. However the food, ambience and decor of this restaurant was truly excellent. The bread, the amuse-bouche, our scallop starter and gnocchi was really superb.

Lovely and charming. Dated and needs an update but it doesn’t really take away from its charm. Food is excellent at the Mirabelle. Pleasantly surprised

Before I let you know.Yes it was expensive.Yes we had special guests staying as it was Tennis Week. With that over I would like to say we had a great 3 nights stay for my Wife Birthday.Friday 17th June until Monday 20th June. The staff were exemplary. They kept our Car Space when we went out.And greeted us overtime we came in.Only one hiccup.Anew waitress wrote down what we ordered but never put it through. We waited for 40mins for our food and drink. When we asked about this they were mortified. They wouldn't let us pay for the evening food & drink.People will say "it's alright for you ?,you have the money."But I'll say this once in a lifetime you get what you pay for.Well done the Grand.

Fabulous service and extremely helpful staff. I would particularly like to call out Reece from the Concierge who was so helpful with our parking and luggage. He is a credit to your hotel.
The public areas of the hotel are very well maintained. Whilst our room was large, some of the furniture was a little dilapidated and the bathroom should really be upgraded, although it was very clean.
Having said that, we had a wonderful stay and will return for afternoon tea in July.
