I'd love to give the Grand 5 stars but that is just not possible. As usual the staff their service and the atmosphere are lovely, everything you could want in a traditional hotel but our suite last weekend was so drab and shabby it simply did not merit £500 a night. Some of the furniture was so battered it was as though it had just been brought in from the local junk shop! (Management please see the bedside tables!) On our last visit a couple of years ago we thought it was all due for a spruce up but nothing has been done. The spa is also particularly dated and dull. The food this time was fine but nothing special.
I would urge people to go to experience the Grand but to make sure they have a room/suite that has been recently decorated or they will be disappointed.

The Grand Hotel afforded me the opportunity to have a really relaxing break, and although I only stayed a few days it was an amazing respite, The hotel was very luxurious, staff were extremely courteous, and there were great Covid safety measures in place. Thank you for a fabulous break.

We always love staying here and as always the staff, the service and the general ambience was first rate. The only thing that is beginning to let the quality down is the state of repair of the room. Ours had a large damp stain on one wall and no apparent attempt to rectify it

Grand by name, grand by nature. From the moment we arrived at this hotel we were immediately met by Chris one of the concierge team, who made us feel so welcome, I was really impressed. The building itself is of course Grand in every way. The decor is wonderful the furnished areas are comfortable and peaceful. They have a beautiful dining room, and the food is absolutely outstanding. There is a spa, and swimming pool, that's heated with a pleasent seating area outside. The bar area is also large and peaceful. The one thing that makes this hotel is all the staff, I mean they are so well trained, very polite and professional. I'm in room 110 until Wednesday, and it's clean and comfortable the beds are wonderful, 😍 no noise, just as I like it I have taken pictures of some of the hotel but believe me this place is massive. Please see photos.

We enjoyed a short 3 day stay celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and were pleasantly surprised with the seaside town of Eastbourne. The Grand sea view room had a superb panorama and the outside pool is a balmy 30C. Covid restricted the breakfast timings downstairs. Room service was available with a good selection to suit most tastes without any time restrictions. The staff were fantastic, everyone was welcoming, polite and attentive. The internet was patchy and the TV isn't online. No USB charging points. The Grand Hotel is somewhat dated with its fixtures and fittings which is charming in its English eccentric way. Our anniversary stay here was fun and relaxing. Hopefully, we'll have many more!

Great Grand hotel. One of the best hotels or is the best hotel in Eastbourne. Clean, fresh & lovely place to stay. Loads of car parking spaces. Prices on the dear side, but worth your stay.

We would have expected to be in Rhodes but our hotel had cancelled and as long standing members of the Small Luxury Hotels programme we decided on a few days in the UK. we had never been to Eastbourne and decided to try the only Five Star hotel on the English coast.

We arrived a little early so had coffee in one of the expansive lounges, a car parking space had been reserved but we went by train so we relinquished immediately.

From the time of our arrival to departure we found all staff were friendly and always willing to be of assistance with a smile. The hotel has done a very good job to cope with the demands of COVID - a fixed time for breakfast was not a problem for us and we chose very early when service was very good although we noticed it got much busier later on. Breakfast was very good albeit no longer a buffet for obvious reasons. We dined in both the restaurants, the Garden restaurant was OK but rather expensive for what it is but the Mirabelle absolutely fabulous.

Our SLH status entitled us to a sea facing deluxe room, very spacious and rather traditional. It had cooled down somewhat when we came so there was no need to use the portable air conditioner and most of the time we had the windows open.

The room décor was lovely with soft tones although a more traditional wardrobe would have looked better than the more modern built in unit. We were a little surprised there was no fridge but perhaps a sign of the times - I think we could probably have got one had we really wanted. The bed was a little soft for us but that is personal taste.

The bathroom was modern with a very comfortable bath and separate sink area all with good lighting.

Obviously some things were not as they were, the snooker room was not in use and slots needed to be booked in the Spa and Indoor Pool. The outdoor pool area is lovely and although you can sit out at leisure you needed to reserve a swimming slot.

The hotel has wonderful architecture and décor and really is "grand" - they are doing a fine job under difficult circumstances and we were made to feel most welcome, so much so that we would return for a long weekend when we did not need to worry about the weather!

The inspectors of Small Luxury Hotels should feel proud they have found and supported this excellent hotel right on the Eastbourne sea front.
The approach looks like an intricate, tiered wedding cake; the type seen in high society films.
Following recent refurbishment, the inside is charming and beautiful, without being too fancy. The fabric is a little worn in places, but this only adds to the overall ambiance.

Jason, the Manager, is the perfect charming host. He exudes a level of service many much higher priced hotels would wish to possess.
Highly recommended as is the measures they have implemented to reduce the risk of Covid.

Thanks to all for the experience.

Great location. The hotel was well set up to cope with COVID 19 precautions. We ate in both restaurants (The Garden and Mirabeau). The food was excellent. The service was mixed. The chef failed to take account of my wife’s dietary requirements and breakfast service was poor. We enjoyed our afternoon tea.

Staff friendly and room pleasant but not a 5* experience. Partner and I had massages booked just after arrival. The massage itself was fine but the ambience was all wrong. I spa waiting area should be dimly lit with candles, the scent or aromatherapy essential oils, relaxing music and comfortable sofas. The health club reception has normal lighting, and nowhere to sit at all! Also, I was not offered water at any point. After the massage we had the indoor pool booked but there was a 20min wait whilst they cleaned the pool between slots (understandable given the circumstances) but again, nowhere to sit and relax so we would just left stood in reception like lemons! Then when we got to the pool we found the other guests were families with young children. They were shouting, splashing and jumping in as children do - fine at your local swimming bath and fine in the hotels heated outdoor pool but in my opinion, children should not be allowed in a 5* spa. We could not relax ans enjoy it at all, if we wanted screaming kids we'd have brought our own!
Room was fine but dated. It's a very old fashioned hotel and I wish we'd booked somewhere more contemporary.
The biggest letdown though was breakfast. Our slot was at 10.30 but they couldn't seat us until 10.40. We then waited over 20mins just for tea and toast and a further 20mins for our cooked breakfasts. Completely unacceptable for a 5* hotel! When the breakfast did arrive the bacon was fatty and inedible ans my poached eggs were so overdone they were like rubber. Astonished a chef in a hotel like this can not manage a poached egg which should always be soft centred. If I wanted a hard boiled egg I'd have asked for that. Presentation was also lacklustre and unappealing.
Needless to say we left feeling unimpressed with a stay that did not live up to its reputation and was not worth the money.

Unfortunately I cannot give full marks for this stay due to my room on the first night. Very out of date and such a small bed that my partner and I hardly slept. I was moved the following day to a very nice room near the pool and it suited us well for the remainder of our break, but bearing in mind we only stayed 2 nights, 50% of our stay was a little disappointing. Having said that we all had a good time and my children really enjoyed themselves. Pool staff were extremely helpful and the reservation system for the leisure facilities worked very well under the circumstances.

My partner and I stayed at The Grand for a night, midweek. From our arrival we were made to feel very welcome by the porters from the moment we entered the property, they were very helpful and polite. The first impression definitely felt 5*.
The room was beautiful, nicely decorated and the bed and pillows were the softest I have ever slept on. The room had a bulb out at the dressing table and lacked some basic facilities such as fridge and iron, however this could be provided upon request we found. The housekeeping team were all so friendly and obliging. Molton and brown products in the bathroom are a lovely touch too.

The interior decor in the hotel definitely feels ‘Grand’, the hotel has a beautiful traditional feel.

We also had some late nights room service which was delicious!

The only inconvenience we experienced was a delay at breakfast, we waited 40 minutes to have our order taken and guests who were seated a long time after us appeared to be served first.
Other than this, I could not fault the front of house. The service was exceptional.

We had a lovely stay at The Grand Hotel. We're not sure that the standard of the room was worth the cost. It was rather dated although the cleanliness was exemplary. No fridge and the room needed more sockets. However dinner, afternoon tea and the all round customer service and friendliness was impressive. Nothing was too much trouble and definitely service with a smile.

This was our second visit to the hotel and I hope it won’t be our last. In these worrying times of Covid-19 the hotel was clean beyond clean and we felt very safe walking around the different rooms. The staff are efficient and really really polite and give the impression that nothing is too much trouble. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this fine hotel.
