There were many shortfalls for a 5 star hotel.
Probably too many to maintain interest of the readers. We felt that the hotel is operating on its past reputation. Covid can only be used as an excuse so many times
Best Mojito had in the UK but very expensive

We have been to this hote for lunch four times and every time our experience has been nothing short of wonderful.
The building is beautiful, well maintained, spotlessly clean and shiny. The staff are friendly, efficient, helpful and funny. And the food is wonderful.

The Grand is a very beautiful hotel right on the seafront with stunning lounges & very good restaurants. Sadly the bedroom we had spoilt the whole holiday. We were so tired after having no sleep for 2 nights we came home early & didn’t stay for the 3rd night. The problems were as follows:
- after being assured we would have a king size bed we were actually give. 2 singles pushed together.
- there were no curtains on the 2 floor to ceiling windows only blinds which let in all the light both sides. Not great with street lamps outside.
- the bathroom was the smallest we had ever had. I couldn’t get out of the bath while my husband was in the bathroom.
- Facing the rear of the hotel meant the room was extremely noisy

When we spoke to the duty manager she said she would refund part of the 3rd night but when we checked our bill we had just been refunded £39. This meant we had spent over £1000 for 2 nights dinner, bed & breakfast & no sleep!

I completed the on-line survey which was sent to me listing the problems but still havent received a reply after more than 2 weeks. This is why I have written this review on trip advisor. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

We have visited the hotel for over 20 years. We enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance. The attention to covid precautions were well thaught out and we felt safe.
The breakfast was good. The only disappointment was the lack of ventilation in the mirrabelle and the food in the garden room in the evening.

I enjoyed my stay as the weather was so warm and I was able to enjoy the outdoor pool.
I had the vegan evening meal in the garden restaurant but this was very tasteless.
I was allocated a room in an adjacent room. There was a party of girls in the next room who were quite loud up to 11 pm and early in the morning from 7am. The mattress was very soft and not comfortable for me.

A very pricey hotel but very enjoyable break and holiday. Well positioned facing the sea. On a quiet part of Eastbourne with little in the way of traffic. Two broad esplanades for walking, and the indoor and outdoor pools were useful for my hydrotherapy, (walking to rehab a fractured and plated distal femur.)

We arrived home this evening after spending one night at this charming spacious hotel, in a great location which was directly opposite the beach. We were welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel by a very professional and smartly dressed doorman. Our parking space was allocated with our name at £25 for a 24hr stay. We wore our masks and sanitized our hands and followed the arrows which were in place through reception. Our luggage was taken to our room. After we had registered at reception we were told our room would be available at 3pm so we were free to enjoy our day. We met our family at the beach which was clean but typically shingle and pebbly of Eastbourne. We all had a good time. Especially our grandsons of 6 and 8yrs. Our executive room was on the 4th floor with a stunning sea view. Just beautiful to wake up to!
Breakfast was delicious and all the staff were professional & very well trained. A calm and friendly atmosphere was clearly present in the large & airy dining room. The outdoor pool was 30 degrees although we didn’t use it. My husband swam in the indoor pool but due to Covid19 I couldn’t sit poolside as the sun loungers had been removed. We will definitely go back to The Grand again.

Grand hotel indeed, some warm and welcoming staff including Anna and Carmen, and all doormen. They know your name here; very friendly, and impressive. Excellent table service breakfast and gorgeous, heated outdoor pool. Internet very poor in room. Bad, unchecked behaviour in pool. Covid prep: masks on guests, one way system, lots of sanitiser. It felt safe in the hotel. Out in the pool is another matter; children diving, and pretending to be whales, expelling water from their mouths into the air. Aerosol creation.

We spent a great week here & would highly recommend the hotel. Staff couldn't do enough for us, we were upgraded to a sea view suite so it was great to wake up to amazing sea views. Food in both restaurants was excellent. Everything was understated class.

We’ve stayed many times over the years at this hotel. Most of the rooms are very spacious and well furnished with plenty of drawers and hanging space. Tea and coffee making facilities together with biscuits are a welcome touch. The outdoor heated pool is heaven on a fine day. Breakfast is generous and excellent quality.

2 adults, 2 children master suite. the suite was huge.. 2 bedrooms, lounge with sea views. very clean. the main host at breakfast was excellent, he is clearly very experienced and we didnt wait long for anything. swimming pool outdoor was fairly small but the children enjoyed it, indoor pool again average but did the job. we paid for allocated parking which i would only recommend for your first night if with children.. by the second night our space had been taken and i requested a refund which was given promptly. we had food in the lounge, again very good any issues sorted quickly. people wore masks in reception. nice for 3 day break..

Stayed here for 5 days DBB. On arriving at our bedroom very disappointed very small on visiting friends room next door and paying same price we were greeted with a room double the size went back down to reception where no problem they could change our room the next day . The new room double the size. Only disappointment very shabby carpet and overlooked a part if the hotel that was overlooking something (not quite sure what) but light shined through curtains all night as no blackout curtains or blinds actually had to but eye mask to be able to sleep
Staff were exceptional very polite and nothing too much trouble . Breakfast very good. Dinners were also good. All in all an enjoyable stay. Felt very safe with all the covid precautions put in place

Beautiful hotel, with helpful and friendly staff.
Food overpriced - not good value.
Rooms beautiful but had a suite and very disappointed to find it had a shower instead of a bath. BIG letdown. Attention to detail in housekeeping was lacking - many bathroom essentials not replaced.

We enjoyed our three day stay DBB. Food v good and although some minor delays in service the staff were really trying to please.

We had a sea view and the only small gripe was when you sat in the sea view window you were looking at the wall (windows high or chairs low).

Room large and very comfortable and v clean.

Drinks reasonably expensive (West End London prices) but it was a staycationing visit.

Lounge fully booked with afternoon tea (Non resident) but we usually got a table.

The hotel lives up to it’s name it is Grand in the old fashioned sense, although they seemed to have skimped on well designed and fitting staff uniforms.

The afternoon tea was mediocre and at London prices, not good value. We also had two very sweet cocktails in the bar. Ended with a real sugar rush.

It just needs more attention to detail and it would elevate the experience.

Stayed at the Grand for 3 nights. It was a great 3 days away on the south coast as going abroad is not an option. This was our second visit since June of last year. Overall the experience was great but expensive but you pays your money you takes your choice. I would very liked to have given 5 stars but could a couple of issues made this not possible due to it being a 5 star hotel.
Good-
Food was excellent in both the Garden and Mirabelle. The MD in the Mirabelle was first class and incredibly smooth. Most people dressed up in the restaurants for evening meal which made the experience a little more special.
Breakfast was also excellent. So much better in fact now it is served to your table and not a mad rush fighting over the next bacon tray to come out.
All staff were excellent. I felt sorry for a young female waiter in the bar who was spoken to by an incredibly rude old man who thought he was on a different level and pay scale to her. She reacted extremely professionally.
Covid dealt with superbly , plenty of space in the restaurants and everywhere wiped down and cleaned - well done.

Needs improvement-
No turn down service one night and hence no stock up of tea and coffee for the morning. We rang in the morning but took an hour to arrive and required a second phone call.
Room view quite drab but did not book sea view so our own fault however the outside area and windowframe could do with a clean.
Concierge/porters should chat less and be a little more observant. Twice we left and arrived in a taxi but no one opened my wife's door for her. If you are 5 star this should be done instead of chatting and watching. 1st world problems of course..

Eastbourne council should be ashamed of themselves !
Sea front areas all looking very tired and run down , flowers dead , weeds in abundance - not what we saw 14 months ago. I know COVID is around but if you expect people to visit at least make sure it looks nice.

This was our second stay at this hotel. We love the traditional decor in keeping with the hotel building. There are so many large public spaces, comfortable lounges, etc that it is easy to keep safe at this time. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.

We loved our room with a balcony and spent a lot of time sitting there in the sun. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The room service food and also that served in the lounge was excellent, as was the drinks service. We also had dinner in the Garden restaurant and in the Mirabelle. We enjoyed both, although our dinner in the Mirabelle was interrupted by a fire alarm which turned out to be a false alarm. We were given champagne when we returned to our table, while the chefs caught up with replacing and serving food, so it did not spoil our evening. We also had an afternoon tea in the Great Hall which was a pleasant experience, although I would have preferred the very faint background music to have been turned up a bit, or a live pianist would have been a bonus.

The only real negative was that breakfast was always only just warm rather than hot and twice we were brought coffee instead of the decaf tea we had ordered.

our stay was a delight from the minute we arrived. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The history of the hotel is evident in its elegant furnishings, and all public areas are spacious and comfortable. Our room was clean and bright, with well preserve furniture of the era. We were so pleased to have a duvet appropriate to the time of year. The outside areas were attractive, clean and well maintained.

The service was very good , but sadly the decor of the public rooms was drab, lacking any colour and tired !.
The hotel Bar was devoid of any atmosphere , not convivial and little warmth.
The cuisine and bar pricing was on par with top West End/ Mayfair 5 * hotels which was a little shock !.
The breakfast , inc in my rate was excellent and plenty of choice. The table service was very well organised.
The FULL stay was payable/up front on check in - which is very unusual to say the least ,for a four or five star property.

We’ve stayed here before but this time chose a sea facing room which had a small balcony which we enjoyed a couple of times. We found the room spotless and all the Covid protection was good, sanitisers all over the place, almost everyone wearing face covers when walking around, and being respectful of each other’s space which made us feel safe.
The WiFi worked well which in these days is quite important.
We have always enjoyed very good service but this time felt everything was even better with helpful people doing their level best to make the visitors comfortable and happy at every contact.
We had room service breakfasts, delivered to the door so we took it in, and we ate in the Garden restaurant for dinners, decent food, enough choice, well spaced tables, and when people left the chairs got a quick spray to keep things clean, all very good.
Checkout was exemplary with the bill emailed in the morning, drop the keycards on departure, quick easy and safe.
Altogether a very good experience, well done everyone working at the hotel.

For a 5 star hotel there are a few things that need looking at such as cleanliness of windows and rear external areas as viewed from room .No wine waiter in the Garden Room restaurant. Concierge staff were very attentive as were the Mirabelle Restaurant staff and also the Lounge Bar waiting staff

Great location, great night sleep. Despite certain supplies lacking or not enough off, like body lotion, milk and english tea, staff did all they could to provide what we needed immediately when we asked.

All staff were very friendly and up to 5 star standard. We have bad backs and hotel exchanged the mattress for a harder one. Only downside is interior looks quite tired for the price. Having stayed in other hotels in this hotel group I think Luton Hoo offers better value for price as a 5 star hotel. Good selections at breakfast although they forget one or two things in the order every day during our 4 days stay in the hotel.
