Incredibly interesting visit on their last open evening, we were lucky enough to have a clear sky for the first half and use the 150yr old giant telepsopes in the observatories. The experts out on the patio were great at explaining and answering questions, and the space photographer had some brilliant images. I'd like to look up his name and see if he has a book or collection of prints for sale. A great visit for adults and kids!

2 adults with an 11 year old boy and an 8 year old daughter. The parking was fine and despite the inclement weather,my kids enjoyed the outdoor activities.Inside, there is a wealth of hands on science and nature that kids of all ages can try out.The cafe is limited due to space restrictions, but it's serviceable and the food is fine.I would also like to mention the staff, who all seemed to enjoy interacting with the public. The Planetarium is basically an inflateable dome, but the cosy setup was a lot of fun, especially the presenter.

We're two adults with no children in tow, but being nerds absolutely loved this place. It was very informative and hands on and covers a wide range of scientific areas. Definitely take a tour too.
Highly recommended!

We visited yesterday with our grandson aged 7. There was plenty for him to do, with various pieces of large equipment in the grounds to carry out various activities / Experiential learning along with many activities inside. Although there were plenty of young visitors there was certainly enough equipment for them all to carry out the various ’experiments’.

There were a number of talks and our grandson found these very interesting and fun, so did we. He also attended a workshop which he loved and we felt was very well organised.

Catering: (3 stars) The staff were charming and well organised. The range of food is limited due to the constraints of the building. I understand there is also a ‘fast food’ outlet served by a mobile kitchen with seating in a marquee / temporary structure. There are seated areas provided if you wish to eat outside, perhaps with a picnic.

I would highly recommend a visit with youngsters as there is a lot to learn and / or to enforce what they may have been learned at school or even to give them an introduction to physics.

Hi from Jeff knowles My wife and I visited the observatory in the summer. And during one of the presentations where told that the observatory ran open evenings which where free of charge . Fantastic we thought and would definitely return . The open evening I went along to was the 19thOct 19 . Got talking to a lady I had never meet before. And said it was great view the night sky through the scopes and that you don't often get to do something for free . Well that's the point of this review. We didn't get to see for free !!!!!! Because what I thought was an open evening for like minded people turned out to be just what you get in the day but in the dark . That being the case with lots of stuff outside. Very disorganised. With people wandering about not shore where to be . Plus children running about . Plus the outside spaces have no barriers and in the dark could be dangerous. I totally would of not minded paying for entery. But as I say I thought it was for like minded people. Lots of waiting around got to see a few bits . But after a round trip of 90 miles . I was left a bit under wellemed. So if you think you will be getting an opportunity to view the heavens in a more relaxed way than normal. I'm afraid your will be disappointed as was I . And after two emails just to clarify the situation and no reply from them after two weeks I'm not to impressed !!!!!!!

Bit of a trip but well worth the visit. Went with my granddaughter. Plenty to do inside and out. Just check out the weather forecast as there are plenty of things to do outside.

Went here after visiting the castle and was really pleased. Our youngest two are 16 and 17 who came here and they enjoyed all the interactive things too, especially the park. Younger children there had so much fun and loved the interactive activities.

Amazing place with plenty to see and do - interactive displays both indoors and outside. The staff are clearly passionate about making science and stargazing accessible and fun. Interesting that you can buy a 'whole site' ticket including entrance to the castle & grounds, but neither attraction information shares with the other which is rather irritating for visitors wanting to make the most of their day. Each clearly thinks of the other as the neighbour from hell!

This was very interesting with lots of interactive displays. The talk we had about the history of the centre and the telescopes was very interesting. Due to the fact it was raining we were unable to use the outside activities. Well worth the entrance fee

For an educational charity they really know how to bring science alive. The entry price was reasonable, the displays well maintained and engaging, the food and drink reasonably priced, and plenty of places for kids to let loose and fully immerse themselves in science. I remember going here as a kid and it was still fun some 16 years later. My kids loved their time here. spending most of the day there. God knows why people have rated this less than 5/5 - it's a great find. Credit to those who run this attraction and have kept it going after all these years!
