Normally I'm used to boring art galleries but this was anything but. Happy to find it was open on a sunday; the permanent collection was interesting and not stale with some more contemporary works. The exhibition was based on light and was really fun, colourful and interactive and all for free!

The Towner continually has exciting exhibitions, as well as the Ravilious Room. The spaces are large, with great views over Devonshire Park

This is a very nice gallery, the whole architecture is beautiful with the wood and concrete ect:
I came here to see the 'A certain kind of light' exhibition and it didn't disappoint. The exhibit was very pretty and quite interesting - what did disappoint was the gallery didn't offer anything else remotely interesting besides a room full of mirrors and tinfoil, another room with old paintings and a over priced cafè. That being said, the exhibits are free, so definitely worth a wonder if you're the arty type - especially the current light exhibit.

A very interesting selection of styles made this gallery a pleasure to spend a wet day in. The staff were friendly and informative and the cafe is worth a visit too.

Super exhibition about light at the moment, friendly staff, nice cafe with good food. Nice decor, and building, lots of space and light.

Good permanent collection and Temporary Exhibitions - but ground floor exhibition space often closed - maybe we're just unlucky at our visit times. No entry fees.

Stairs can be difficult but there is a lift.

Average cafe.

I had a lovely time here. Great art. Very interesting. And the staff are friendly and very helpful always there if you need a story behind the art. And there's a lovely coffee shop there too. It's a real feel good place.

Plenty to see, friendly staff, good facilities and plenty for children to do. Cafe was pleasant as well. Close to town centre so easily reached by car or train

We spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the Towner Art Gallery looking at their 'A certain kind of light' exhibition, and then went on to visit the Ravilious Room which contains some delightful examples of his work. The art gallery is a modern well appointed building and has a cafe, which we didn't use. It was school half term week and some interesting activities had been provided for children. The art gallery is clearly well used by visitors to the town, as well as residents, although not all that well signposted - it's situated close by the two theatres which are better signposted.

Highly recommend a visit to this small gallery. They put on activities for kids too. Two gallery spaces over 2 levels and entrance is fired although a donation is suggested.

Very nicely exhibited, friendly staff, some famous pieces there such as anish Kapoor's work. Allot of children's areas full of smiling faces

The Towner has two exhibition halls that we were able to take our weekend vIsitors to when they were with us over a wet and windy weekend. One hall was pictures and the other installations involving light. Very interesting.

We loved the exhibitions but not so appreciative of bearded young man in beanie hat with tattoos ( of course) who was too idle to support his colleagues waiting on tables suggest he goes elsewhere and doesn't drive the reputation of the Towner down😄

Myself and my children enjoyed the sculpture workshop and light / mirror exhibition with artist Hermione Allsopp. Well run, accessible and free! We all had the opportunity to get creative!

OK, lets get the bad out of the way. I don't like most modern art. And the gallery has a modern art exhibition at the moment. I didn't like it.
The original Towner collection, and the Ravilious collection, however are both delicious! A well displayed, inspiring, wonderful slice of history. The building is modern, with doors of Gothic proportions. What is most impressive, apart from the exhibitions, is the fact that they planned three or four workshops to encourage and promote artistic activities for all age groups - Inspirational!

Had a really nice hour or so here. They are very relaxed and welcoming to young kids so our two had a great time looking at the art and enjoying the installations.
They even encourage photography which our primary- aged daughter loved as she took the photos in for Show and Tell.
The activity for children to create their own sculpture was great.
And all free too! Amazing!
We had lovely smoothies and hot chocolates in the cafe as well.
Recommended.

We just love this gallery. It's always on our list to do when visiting Eastbourne. The building is amazing in itself and the exhibitions are always first rate. A hidden gem.

The Towner Art Gallery must one of the best galleries in the area. Lots of exhibitions with frequent changes. The shop stocks some interesting gift items. The cafe has some tasty snacks and a lovely view across Eastbourne.

This was our first visit and it is a very fine gallery in a striking modern building. There is a good cafe. Part of the gallery was closed due to a new exhibition being displayed. We saw an interesting exhibition about paintings depicting night. Free admission.

The current exhibition - Towards Night - is one of the best I have seen with such varied works on display. Thank you Tom Hammick for curating this exhibition which is a delight to visit. The cafe serves good coffee and lovely cakes.

I'm not much of an art lover but I have to say the Townes art gallery is quite an impressive building with plenty to see. It has a nice little shop and a great coffee shop serving snacks with a nice little view of the tennis courts

Nice gallery with interesting nighttime exhibition but ravilous room was really disappointing. None of famous landscapes on display only wood etchings and 2 paintings. Cafe nice views but poor value for money, a cup of tea is £2 and cakes etc all expensive. Overall a disappointing but unpleasant visit.

We visited the Towner to catch the Into the Night exhibition and were not disappointed. It was a fascinating experience and some of the paintings are amazing with the theme making it engrossing. We also ate in the cafe there and it is really first rate. We will be back.
