Always worth a visit, and not afraid to be challenging (i.e. 99% great art and I thought 1% done by 6 month old kids pretending to be real artists!)

Great for getting children into art. Opens their mind about the various concepts. Have a children's activity room and runs classes especially for them. Lovely little shop and cafe too.

Super building tucked on the side of the theatre. The exhibitions were almost as good as the designand even the café was OK. If you are in the area and have the slightest interest in art or architecture a visit is a must.

I enjoyed my visit very much. The entrance had an interesting shop and was bright and airy. The displays are on three floors, accessible by an industrial sized lift or stairs. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The top floor has a good cafe, with a balcony outside with good views. The food and drink was enjoyable and not too pricey. The work of local artists was displayed on the top floor. The middle floor had an exhibition of Blomberg paintings from the twentieth century. The ground floor had art installations. The toilets were spotless. It's an independent gallery dependent on donations. Well worth a visit,🙂

Nice gallery space with good mix of exhibitions. Staff always friendly and helpful. The programme of community events is great, especially the hands-on stuff for kids. The town would be a poorer place without it.

A little disappointed that galleries were closed for a new exhibition when we visited. Check to see what's on before you go

The Towner not only hosts significant exhibitions in a modern building whose design respects the art, but also its curators have the wisdom to support many local charities and art-related initiatives. Works of national significance are displayed alongside exhibits that trace the interpretation of Sussex landscape and life. Accessibility is made easy by the step-free entrance and remarkably large lifts. A good shop and pleasant refreshments round off the experience. For residents and visitors, this is an enriching place.

What is on display is well worth seeing. We loved the schools exhibition. The only problem with the Towner is that it does not make full use of the fantastic display areas. So much art in store that is never displayed. Few want to pay £6 to view art in the basement storerooms! Thank you to the fantastic staff at the great little Cafe.

This an excellent gallery for all, there is such a lot of different types of art here. It should be of interest to all from very young to old. The building itself is contemporary and serves the collections and displays very well. The ground floor gallery is large with very high ceilings and has previously displayed some very up to date artworks. You will see figurative art, portraits and abstract painting and sculpture. There is a very nice shop in the entrance hall and a stylish cafe with a balcony on the second floor with great panaramic views of Eastbourne. I highly recomend a morning or afternoon visit.

The Towner is situated around a 15 minute walk from Eastbourne station and overlooks Devonshire Park.

It is nicely laid out with art on the first and second floors. There are spacious lifts available if you can't manage the stairs.

We saw the 'Towards Night' exhibition curated by Sussex based artist Tom Hammick. This contained work by Hammick himself, as well paintings by JMW Turner, Constable, Munch, Nolde, Chagall, Peter Doig and LS Lowry amongst others.

Equally interesting was the exhibition entitled 'One Day Something Happens : Paintings of People'. This contained work by Sickert, Lucian Freud, Hockney and David Bomberg.

There was also a room dedicated to Eric Ravilious.

Admission was free and it's a gallery well worth visiting. The Urban Ground cafe was also good with a decent range of light snacks and drinks.
