We have visited Guernsey many times to see our son who lives there but this was our first stay at the OGH for 3 nights. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. We were in Room 106, which was very spacious and clean but has a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. It is on the swimming pool level which was very convenient. The pool was lovely. Problem was that shower head angle couldn't be altered and water was directed onto taps making it very unpleasant experience. We complained about this immediately but nothing was done. Also bath had a damage in it which had been badly repaired and filled, which was mouldy. I would have expected better maintenance in a hotel of this standard.

We stayed for 5 nights in June 2019 and loved the OGH. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were all very welcoming. The receptionists were always friendly and asking if we'd had a good day. The quality of the food and the amount of choice, especially for breakfast, was exceptional. The bedrooms and the public spaces were beautifully decorated and just made it a special place to stay. I think we all need a bit of luxury and pampering in our lives at some time, and the OGH is a great place to find it.

I stayed for 4 nights from 30th June with my Wife, Aunty and Uncle who had recently celebrated his 75th birthday. Our Aunty has mobility issues so she travelled with her wheelchair although usually uses it only infrequently. Following our flight she was suffering and depended on her wheelchair during our stay. We stayed in rooms 201 and 211. Aunty and Uncle were moved to room 211 after the initial room allocated was considered unsuitable for her. This was undertaken with the minimum of fuss. My fault entirely as I had only briefly discussed wheelchair accessability at time of booking expecting Aunty to be walking far more than she actually did.
I have to say the hotel was faultless from the excellent staff to the quality of the food. Someone at the hotel has recruitment and training spot on. The staff were more than happy to help , often anticipating your request. They could not have been more kinder and helpful to our Aunty. It would be very easy to pick out individuals for praise but that would be based on dealing with them on a more frequent basis. Even members of staff we interacted with only on the odd occassion exhibited the same high standards.
From our experience I would be so bold as to say that if you do not have a perfect holiday stay, then the fault will not be down to the team at the Old Government House.

Fabulous hotel, great food, great location and courteous staff. We only stayed for a couple of days but wish it could have been longer. Will definitely return to this hotel - already planning the next trip.

We had the pleasure of spending 5 nights at this wonderful old establishment quite recently. A big thank you to Hilton & the team for the exceptional service and wonderful food. I would recommend the queen size room as the classic room is a little on the small side. The hotel is very well placed, being It is a short walk to the harbour area & the shopping area. We will be back!

Guernsey is a gem of an island. We have stayed in 8 or 9 lovely hotels
there. This year we chose the famous O.G.H.From arrival to departure the service from all staff was excellent and faultless. The public ground floor rooms are elegant and very comfortable. The disappointment was when we saw our room.Small to the point of chlostrophobia, nowhere even to store our suitcases..Next day we asked to upgrade but decided the cost too much.We were shown a room in the same catergory which we accepted. This room was more airy but had it’s own problems.Safe difficult to access, poor quality tiny shower cubicle, and shabby furnishings,But the bed was lovely. The receptionist who organised the move was also very helpful. But the rooms were not worthy of a 5 Star hotel and therefore spoiled our 5 night stay.J.P. One does not keep returning to a regular hotel unless it is something special. And 'The OGH' is that. The ambiance and attention combine well with its style and location. Yet of course one also notices nuances and changes. This time it was the less than refined service - with one notable exception - in the restaurant. One joy if the weather suites is breakfast in their lovely garden - yet the day we could was spoiled by an incompletly laid table and that I suspect we were forgotten 'out there'. Another time our cooked breakfasts were produced before we'd finished our cerials. We dined in one evening and had a long wait - apparently our starters were taken to another table. Thus my main, Duck Cottage Pie was well over heated - scaldingly so. Now in the grand scheme of things hitches happen - its human. But OGH was not like this in its 4 star days. So we are disappointed but not sufficiently not to return. We will. There's far more good, nay excellent which makes it a favourite - not least the Housekeeping. Our room, albeit compact was immaculate when we returned in the afternoon and then again after dinner it had been prepared ready for us. Fresh fruit is there and each evening a litle box of goodies. And, I nearly forgot a Carafe with fresh ground coffee. The same must be said of reception, concierge and Duty Managers. Ready to greet, help and give useful advice.

Stayed here with my wife for a weekend break. Our arrival was handled well and I’m pleased we’d booked a bigger room - the standard ones looked very snug.

The property itself is beautiful, with some great artwork but the execution of service on all too many occasions was sorely lacking.

From not being able to get through to room service to order drinks (ended up with a voicemail simply saying no one can take my call) to sitting in the garden for well over an hour without anyone asking if we wanted anything, the missed service opportunities (and in turn income for the hotel) seemed to to smack of a cliched 1970s seaside hotel.

Plates at breakfast were left far too long before being tidied away and the quality of the fruit juice deteriorated every day, too.

Given the substantial price tag and the way the hotel bills itself, I had far higher expectations when it came to service levels.

If you want 5 star luxury close to the centre of St Peterport, this is the place to stay. It's close to shopping, good restaurants and ferries to Herm and Sark. Just stay clear of their granuled scrambled egg at breakfast.

Weekend away to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

Staff are super efficient and friendly and made us feel very welcome on arrival. Room was comfortable rather than spectacular (our room did not have harbour views) and could do with some updating. That said for two nights, really nothing to complain about.

The hotel has charm, some great restaurants (we ate elsewhere but the reviews are good) and serves an amazing afternoon tea, If weather permits, have your afternoon tea on the terrace overlooking the harbour.

Amenities include a spa, gym and an outdoor pool.

Not cheap, but for a short stay its the best hotel in St Peter's Port

The OGH is a superb 5* hotel situated close to the heart of St Peter Port and a few minutes walk from the ocean. The rooms are elegant and very comfortable. The public areas are stylish and upmarket. But the real highlight was the quality, style and professionalism of the staff who were very helpful and could not be faulted in any way. They truly make the experience at the OGH memorable. We would highlight Zoe at reception who took the time to explain the various tourist attractions, suggest restaurants and activities - she made sure we made the best use of our weekend stay.

We stayed for 5 nights over Liberation day and couldn't fault either the facilities, food or service. In particular all the staff were keen to help in any way they could. The Brasserie was delightfully situated so that the moning sun shone into the room during breakfast.

The hotel is very close to the centre of St Peter Port and its seafront which is only 10 mins away (although longer on the way back!)

This was the 4th time we had stayed here and I was expecting to give an automatic 5-star review. There are a lot of good things to be said about this hotel. The friendliness and attentiveness of staff, where nothing seems to be too much trouble. The surroundings and decor of the bedroom (ok, may have been a bit beige). A superb sauna/steam-room/jacuzzi combo. The attention to detail - recognition that we were there for a 30th wedding anniversary through cakes to our room and a heart-shape on the bed made of fresh flower petals (well, my wife thought it romantic). But the difference between a good hotel and a great hotel is made by marginal differences, and we both felt that there was something ever so slightly off compared to previous visits. We think that the restaurant service and standards weren't quite what they were, but as mentioned, it is marginal. Enough for 4.9 stars if that were possible. Would we stay here again? Most probably. Before this trip it would have been automatic and unequivocal.

Fabulous.
Will come again. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone as this is the place to come. Marvellous staff, all top drawer. It's up market, and not cheap. But. Sensibly, there is a bottle of wine for those treating themselves to something they would not usually afford.
Top quality food, and plenty of it, unlike similar top quality hotels where the presentation is key, often in place of a proper dinning experience.
Incredible staff. Valet parking. It sits above the town with wonderful views. Peaceful, quiet, and charming.

This hotel is ideally located close to the sea and shopping centre. Staff are very helpful and the rooms comfortable.
We only ate breakfast in the hotel but this was excellent. The bar areas are also nice with plenty of seating and I did notice people having afternoon tea and cakes which also looked excellent.

Boutiquesque hotel, charming in parts, but the rooms are small, so there is noise from the corridor. The bathroom was modern and neat, but very compact and how a shower was fitted in way a surprise as it was the tightest shower I have ever been in measuring just 2ft by 2ft. It’s a good job I am slim!
Worst part was the incessant alarm from an unoccupied room at 6:15 on a Saturday morning which required a call to the front desk to sort out – 10 minutes later.

This is a very smart, traditional, dog-friendly hotel. When I made the booking for one plus my Norfolk Terrier (for my stopover, travelling from Jersey to Sark), I blanched at the room cost: £260.10 for one night with breakfast in April (room with balcony). However it was worth every penny as this is a really good hotel, with fantastic service. The room was stunning, in an old school way - draped curtains, monogrammed bed linen, little chocolate treat/snack. Breakfast was delicious and as it was a bright day I sat outside near the fountain - incredibly relaxing. I liked this so much that when I was on my way back from Sark, with time to spare in St Peter Port, I came here for a coffee - perfect if you are with a well-behaved dog and want a quiet break. I would definitely go back as I don't get that much time to relax - quality time out is at a premium - and so you have to grab it with both hands. The beautiful Candie Gardens (terrific views) are just across the road: handy for walking the dog. Looks like a great place to have a posh tea to celebrate a special occasion, or to come for a smart breakfast with newspapers at a weekend. Do dress up a bit (jeans are fine, but definitely "clean jeans") and come to have some peaceful time out. Great location if you are visiting St Peter Port in Guernsey.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the OGH to celebrate our Civil Partnership ceremony which was held the day before we flew out. We experienced a really warm welcome from Emily which set the tone for the coming days. The room was spacious, quiet (as requested) and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were delicious, with a great choice and the daily delivery of a 'sweet treat' were appreciated. All the staff we came into contact with were very friendly and efficient which contributed to an extremely enjoyable and memorable stay.

Guernsey only 5 star hotel lived up to its 5 stars, lovely welcome, nothing to much trouble, rooms finished to a very high standard with options of pillows you would like, separate large bathroom with bath and shower spotless. The hotels rooms and fabulously decorated as you would expect from the old governors house. Breakfasts are good in the conservatory not rushed and freshly cooked. The gardens lovely great place for a G&T ( or 2) on a sunny afternoon, there is even a small pool. The location is bang in the middle with many bars and restaurants surrounding it if you want to venture out, cannot praise the staff enough professionalism but friendly, we even got an Easter egg on departing ( being Easter Sunday). A first class establishment we hope to return.

Arrived Tuesday for a 4 night stay, greeted with two glasses of sparkling wine as a welcome drink. Reception staff all smiling and only too willing to help.

The young concierge was also a great credit to the hotel, very helpful and attentive.

Our room was magnificent - the Herm Suite, beautifully decorated and stylish.

Breakfast was an absolute treat, hot food well cooked and great range of cereals, fruit and pastries.

The bar service was excellent with staff ever willing to serve and assist.

My only slightly negative comment concerns the spa where the jacuzzis were cold ( there was a note on the spa reception to that effect), the steam room was only moderately warm which was a shame.

Overall though the OGH delivers on its 5 star rating, the staff take their lead from the General Manager, Andrew who is very visible and keen to show his staff what a difference those little touches make.

A great stay and we hope to return.

One other mention, nothing to do with the hotel, don’t forget to buy a Puffin Pass if you plan to use Guernsey’s excellent bus service - great value for money.

A very special trip to start the celebrations for my 60th Birthday! My husband planned it as a surprise, as I was working in Guernsey 40 years ago. He could not have picked anywhere better than the OGH. The hotel is wonderfully opulent without being stuffy. Fabulous furnishings. I did feel we were in an Agatha Christie story at times!! The service was outstanding, and the food also outstanding especially their curries- do partake if you visit an absolute treat. Location is superb to walk into the town, just by the sea. We had a superior room with a balcony, bed was divine. We were lucky with the weather, all in all a glorious trip.

This is second time I have visited this charming hotel and, as someone who travels frequently for work around the world, it is my favourite hotel of all. It’s in a beautiful, tranquil position, a short walk from the sea. The attention to detail is spot on and the service is attentive without being obsequious. I congratulate the management for maintaining a high quality friendly and professional team. I look forward to my next visit.

We went here for afternoon tea for my small hen party. The food was lovely and lots of it I would highly recommend. They also have an outdoor pool which looks lovely in the summer however not sure if i would use it as it is with in very clear view of diners in the restaurant.

Took my mother for birthday Sunday lunch, we really enjoyed the live Jazz, not too intrusive excellent band. Lunch was delicious, as I would expect at £35 per head, wine and drinks prices are definitely 5 star! The sevice wasn't the best but all the staff friendly and beautifully smart, which was more than could be said for some of the guests! What a shame there is no dress code, it is such a beautiful hotel.
