We stayed here for a wedding & tagged on a couple of extra days for a holiday. From start to finish the service was exceptional & staff couldn’t do more to help. Breakfast was delicious & the facilities were good. The jacuzzi was very relaxing but book in advance for spa treatments - we left it too late & missed out. The room was small but had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed. My only complaint would be that late room service was very limited & very pricey with a £5 ‘tray charge’.

My husband and I stayed here four nights for our 30 the wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful time. We had the Centennial suite, it was lovely and spacious with views down over the pool to the harbour. All the food was excellent, whether breakfast or dinner. The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond. They were all very professional but friendly and approachable and we can't praise then highly enough. Special thanks to Andrew and Ian. We can't wait to return.

I guess we'd find it difficult to stay in any other hotel on Guernsey having experiencer the 'OGH'. It has remained consistently excellent, indeed we have seen improvements over the ten years we have been visiting.
Key to this is the staff attitude that guests are there to enjoy and thus everything is done to ensure that.
In fine weather one can breakfast in the garden. We did twice this time. It was interesting to see staff adjust swiftly to guests' changing places to get into or avoid direct sunlight or a breeze.
Our room was spotless, and maintained so. But if there be one complaint it is that it had nil view other than the side wall of the opposite wing. It is nice to have a view but than not essential.
The lounge, bar and other public rooms are lovely.
On the huge plus side and typical of OGH hospitality....our flight from Alderney was cancelled for fog. We'd managed to hitch a lift in a returning boat which was 2 hours at sea in the fog. We couldn't find a taxi so walked our bags up the hill arriving at 2100hrs. Greeted with acclaim and Champaign and staff in the restaurant etc alerted. We couldn't have had a more understandingly attentive welcome.

An inauspicious start. Got to the front entrance of the hotel to see a sign saying the car park was in another street - but no directions to get there. Drove around for 10 minutes to find it. As we parked, a hotel courtesy bus pulled in behind us. I asked the driver how to get to reception with our luggage and he said we had to drive back there! He told us there were drivers to valet park - a shame none was visible when we'd driven past twice.
While waiting for our room to be prepared, I asked if it was possible to have a coffee and snack, and was taken to the restaurant. It was 1045. We were given a menu for food to be served from 12. When we enquired if it was the right menu, we were left while the waiter went to find out. He returned to say no, we needed to have something from the breakfast menu, and took the previous one from us. He then came back to say that in fact we should choose from the first menu he'd given us. so 15 minutes later, we finally each ordered a simple toasted sandwich - probably the most basic item on the menu. Thirty minutes later, still no food.
We were eventually told that there was a "system problem" in the kitchen, subsequently translated as the printer had stopped working. I'd ordered a sandwich, not a book, so it's a shame no staff member thought to check given we were the only guests in the room.
Our bedroom was very small, but we knew that would be the case from TA reviews. What we hadn't anticipated was the lurid red vinyl bed and headboard. It looked as if it had been borrowed from a Bangkok brothel. I initially wondered if it was a hallmark of the Red Carnation brand, but was told that each room was different with an individual character. Why anyone ever thought this extraordinarily grotesque item of furniture, totally overwhelming a tiny room, was in keeping with the gentility of Guernsey is an absolute mystery.
Thankfully there were some positives. The reception, bar staff and concierge were excellent. Friendly and helpful, they seemed genuinely keen to ensure we got the most out of our visit. By contrast, staff in the conservatory area were consistently poor. Restaurant waiters were good but the maitre d' spoke very loudly, totally overwhelming the atmosphere of the room. Singing in the middle of breakfast was a step too far. He seemed to think he was the ringmaster of a circus who needed to bellow his views and orders across the entire room.
Breakfast itself was very good. Boiled eggs were cooked exactly as requested and the buffet selection was wide-ranging and high quality. A slight disappointment was that local jams and honey were not served.
Dinner in the brasserie was excellent. Or so I thought until I had a badly upset stomach the following day. It may somehow have been a coincidence, and was certainly a shame, as the starter of lobster, main of Dover Sole and dessert of sublime honeycomb ice cream had been absolutely delicious.
When I next had dinner there, I reminded the staff several times that I am not able to eat any citrus. They assured me they had taken this on board. So why was there a huge chunk of lemon on the side of the plate? This typified the place - very, very mixed performance, with some moments of excellence but others of abject failure.

On a final positive note, when I had a chat with the duty manager before checking out, he was extremly receptive to my comments and discounted part of the price of one of the meals. A reasonable gesture, but not enough to persuade me to return.

The quality of the service at the OGH was among the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. The staff were truly helpful and obliging, from printing off our boarding passes to finding me a quiet room to conduct a webinar. Breakfast was amazing. Location excellent and heated pool great to come back to after a day's trekking round the islands. I visit around 50 hotels a year and the OGH is right up there in the top one per cent.

We spent a couple of nights here because we had journeyed to a wedding on the beautiful island. The welcome we received could not have been bettered. All staff were discreet but friendly. We were accompanied by our boxer doggie and she was delighted to receive not only an extremely warm welcome from staff, but the chef went out of his way to create some doggie-friendly biscuits! Admirable choice for breakfast, (for us, that is)!
The only slight criticism was the lack of a decent car park, but that is understanable given the situation of the hotel. There is a beautiful park within 60 yards of the hotel.

Beautifully appointed common areas and rooms reflecting the history of Guernsey. Truly luxurious and staff was stellar. My room was comfortable, clean, and perfect for one!
The location was fantastic - easy walk into town, to the ferry, restaurants, and to local sights. Easy enough to arrange transportation around the island through the concierge.
Food was delicious and took advantage of the local fare. I would absolutely stay here again.

Stayed for four nights. Excellent hotel, the staff could not do enough for you. The hot breakfasts were freshly cooked, the head waiter Ken was a person who gated you with a smile every morning. The room was yes OK but the bathroom was on the small side, room 214. We tried to eat in the restaurant but the night we wanted to go was completely booked. The menu looked excellent.on our arrival our room was not ready but the staff made us welcome and offered us a glass of bubbly.would we stay again, yes.

Faultless! Hotel, room, staff and food all excellent. The gym was also a good size, with some decent equipment. Lovely heated outdoor pool, which we didn't use, but we sat by it in the sunshine!
Everything has been thought of and the hotel is perfectly positioned for the centre. Our room had a great sea view, including Castle Cornet. Would happily return.

A very good hotel in the heart of St Peter port in walking distance of all the attractions and town. The staff were attentive and all very good, all conducted themselses with efficiency and professionalism, nothing was too much for them. The breakfasts were supberb and the soroundings beautiful.

We really enjoyed our stay - the hotel is a lovely combination of old world charm with sensitively updated decor and crisp, attentive service. All the staff were really friendly and helpful even with our 3 month old baby. Highly recommended and looking forward to our next trip!

The location is ideal being in the middle of town without being near and noise - and provided us with a great base for touring the island by local bus.

I think some people consider this hotel a little tired, but I don't know why. All public areas and our room were beautiful. Service was absolutely excellent from everyone especially Nelly on reception, Ken in the restaurant, Alessandro... too many to name but all really excellent.

Food: Breakfast menu was huge and I was especially happy with the omelettes. We enjoyed our Liberation dinner and fireworks from the gardens. We especially enjoyed dinner in the Curry Room.

The location is superb - high enough up the hill for great views but also just a few minutes walk from everywhere in the town. We drove around the island from here and when we return, this will be our hotel again.

What a delightful stay we had last week! Huge thanks to the lady on reception who obtained an emergency appointment for me at a dentist! All the staff were friendly and efficient - nothing was any problem. The room was more than comfortable and the location of the hotel was ideal for a stroll into the very lovely town. The valet parking made us smile more than once, when we realised where our car was being parked! Our first time at a five star hotel - I do hope its not our last!

On arrival, we handed our car keys to reception and our car was whisked away and then redelivered to the street outside reception the next morning when we needed it. This was a great service, leaving us carefree regarding parking. One evening, we were even given a lift to a restaurant, in our own car. Thanks.

Our room was spotless, but dated and it felt cluttered. There was so much stuff on every surface that I felt a bit claustrophobic at first, but settled in. The windows didn't seal very well, so we had cold seeping in from outside, which reception sorted out by providing an extra electric radiator.

We ate in the curry club our first evening. The service was superb, the food was fabulous and tasty. I was surprised at how expensive it all was, but would recommend it for a treat-night.

Another evening, we had snacks at the bar which were tasty and far more reasonably-priced.

Our main impression from our stay here was the fantastic service from the staff. Every person we met was unfailingly friendly, keen to help and really knowledgeable about the hotel and services.

Thoroughly recommended.

Some of the most friendly and helpful staff I have ever encountered and everywhere is immaculately clean. Great location too. Marked down only on the basis that there is the odd thing here and there - for example a bit of worn/frayed carpet or a screen that needs repair but nothing that would ruin your stay. Also could never figure out what the switches next to the bed were supposed to do......but would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a few days of relaxation in comfortable surroundings.

Had king size room with sea view. Decor and furniture were slightly tired. Shower very small. Brilliant spa/gym facilities. Staff friendly and keen to help. Quiet location, yet good for accessing bus station/port, shops and restaurants. Would return

Travelled with my husband, Stephen Potter to this wonderful hotel and spent 3 nights here for my birthday. The hotel itself is centrally located in an elevated position in St Peter Port. It is a stunning location, with lovely gardens and a heated pool. The best part however are the staff. Everyone wants you to have the best time possible, and nothing is too much trouble. The food here is also excellent and the head chef is very talented and versatile. We tried their new garden menu, cooked outside, which was wonderful, we also had a fantastic breakfast every morning and a wonderful curry in the intimate setting of the governors room. It was all brilliant, and we will be back again in June, can’t wait!

An incredible hotel that really made our birthday weekend away. Great location and nice old style rooms (in a special way), all with exceptional service and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting St Peter Port.

The Old Government House Hotel & Spa is by far, the best hotel we have ever stayed in. From start to finish, the staff were fantasic. They were beyond helpful and always friendly. They even spent time getting to know their guests. We were lucky enough to be residing in one of the hotel's stunning suites. The room was beautiful and the view from the balcony was outstanding! The facilities throughout the hotel were excellent - from the fantasic brasserie restaurant to the spa. But we would have to say, the staff were the highlight. We were truly taken care of throughout our stay and the OGH team honestly made our honeymoon extra special. We would highly recommend this hotel & spa as a place to stay for anyone visiting Guernsey, but if you are looking for exceptional on a special occasion (like a honeymoon or anniversary), the OGH is definitely the place to stay!

We booked to stay in the Old Government House hotel over Easter weekend. This is a lovely building and does a good job of feeling like a grand old hotel. Feels very luxurious and the restaurants an bar areas a beautiful. Our room was comfortable if a little small. It was the standard room and it was filled with quality furniture but that furniture made it feel a bit cramped. The bathroom was also a bit too small. We had a nosey in a suite room which looked perfect.
The location of the hotel is ideal for the town centre.

We recently returned for our forth visit and found the service ' top drawer '.From the moment we arrived until we departed, the team could nt do enough for us.It was nice to see Gareth and Harry, as well as a host of new faces, help maintain the experience, their attention to service was exemplary. We were located on the first floor, stairs and lift available. The room was nice, very clean and tidy.Plenty of tea and coffee with fresh fruit on arrival.Excellent choice for breakfast. We dined on three occasions and must say the ' beef blade' was to ' die for'.But the icing on the cake ( excuse the pun)was my wife having a diabetic dessert,
We find in many hotels they rarely cater for this condition. The chef at OGH made a beautiful strawberry flan and a wonderful pannacotta, sugar free dessert. If its not on the menu, you only have to ask.The hotel is in a great location( two minutes walking) to St Peter Port. The hotel also organised a taxi tour of the island, which we found very interesting which lasted two hours,Well worth it.My wife had a ' Hot Stone Massage'
in the Spa on the day of our arrival.'Brilliant experience, one hour of absolute bliss!.'Never had one before, but on the list for our next return!
It you want great service, great food and a great experience, the O.G.H. is the place to go.

Hotel good, staff & service excellent but surely it is unacceptable for any h let alone the only 5 star hotel in Guernsey, to allow a large dog to recline on the dining room floor within a few feet of diners and to allow him to be fed and watered(noisily) from a large bowl situated on the carpet. This happened at dinner and breakfast during our stay 28-31 March 2018.

. Yes it was super comfortable with great facilities and a superb location, but what really stood out for us was the impeccable friendly and helpful service we received – everyone worked hard to ensure our stay was superlative.

Got there when it was snowing! Room excellent as was service, especially in dining room. Very close to main town area and to walk to Castle. Good wine selection. Best hotel in Guernsey. Valet parking useful if you have car. Hint: hire the smallest car you can. Roads are very narrow. Driving on the sidewalk allowed!

We have just spent four brilliants nights here at The Old Government House Hotel, from our pick up from Guernsey Airport right through to our departure neither myself or Clare could fault absolutely nothing, well done the OGH team!!! We initially arrived at 4pm on Wednesday 14th March, which coincidentally was also my Birthday, we were quickly and professionally checked in and were then offered a complimentary welcome glass of wine (lovely gesture) Clare my partner had pre booked and pre paid for a superior sea view facing room as a total surprise for my Birthday, our room 108 was just lovely with a large bay window overlooking St Peter Port Harbour and Marina's the room was tastefully decorated with a huge bed, dressing table, large sofa, and two cosy chairs and small circular wooden table, the bathroom was bright and fully marble effect tiled. We had dinner in the hotel Brasserie on our arrival night (full separate report on TA) which was also a nice experience served by very professional staff. We had breakfast the following morning in the same room which again was a very pleasant, we chose eggs benedict and a full English breakfast both were well cooked (poached eggs just perfect!) with plenty of toast, preserves and tea and coffee. On day two when we left the hotel to explore St Peter Port at 9.30am we asked reception to have our room serviced, unexpectedly I had to pop back after just 30 minutes to collect something from the room and it had already been completely serviced, Amazing!!!! Our sleep quality during our four day stay was fantastic and we were both fully relaxed and rested, in fact I personally had some of the best sleeps I have had for a long time, which was surprising as the hotel is based right at the top of the town centre. In conclusion would we recommend this hotel, "Absolutely!!" Would we return "Most Definitely". Finally we would both like to say a massive "THANK YOU" to Andrew the GM and his brilliant team of people for making our stay so Memorable!!!!!!
