Fully reiterate the positive reviews previously written so will not repeat those. Just a few little niggles during our stay that's all. We were a little disappointed with our room, it was very small but classed as a queen room. My husband and I could not be on the move at the same time! Similarly with the bathroom, it was tiny especially the shower cubicle. We found half used bottles of shampoo and conditioner which had not been replaced from the previous guest. Our tea bags were not replenished either hence we did not have any one morning for our cup of tea. Other than this we had a great stay.

We stayed here for our 2 night 'minimoon.' Very nice quality hotel with good facilities and particularly excellent helpful staff in all areas. We had upgraded to a sea view room which in reality didn't feel good value but then we didn't see a non-sea view room. The room and bathroom were a little on the small side but that didn't really detract from our stay.

My husband and I stayed here this week to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, we have never been to Guernsey before we fell in love with the island. The hotel was perfect in every way - you can tell the staff love working there as everyone was so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The room was lovely, very quiet and a beautiful view out over the pool and out to the harbour. It was clean, comfortable and you could pre-request items like hair straighteners. Every evening the room was made ready for bedtime, and a little treat was left on the bed - delicious cookies, biscuits and fudge - everything was scrumptious. On our Anniversary they even left us a card with a lovely message and two slices of cake with a chocolate written Happy Anniversary message on the plate - it's the little things like this that make a hotel stand out above the rest. Breakfast was included and there was plenty of choice from cereals, to cooked breakfast and even yummy pancakes. The restaurant staff get to know you and are always friendly and chatty - I have honestly never stayed anywhere before where the staff were all so lovely - it made such a difference. We ate dinner in the restaurant on two occasions and both times the food was amazing, I'm quite fussy but they were more than happy to accommodate any dietary requirements. We also had afternoon tea one day which was delicious and it's the first time we've had afternoon tea and not been able to finish it all - it was that good, with so many tasty cakes. We couldn't get a taxi on a couple of occasions due to there being none available - but the hotel management offered to take us, again a lovely touch and made us feel like they really cared about our experience on the island. There is nothing to fault about this hotel, if you are visiting Guernsey it's a must! The location is ideal, close to the shops and the harbour and definitely visit Herm - a gorgeous island with beautiful beaches. You won't be disappointed if you stay at this amazing hotel.

Really enjoyed a two night stay here, visiting from neighbouring Sark for a medical appointment. I could find nothing to fault at all, which (for me) is highly unusual. There are steps at the front entrance, but a (wheelchair friendly) lift is available. Having a slight disability, and booking by telephone (at short notice) I was allocated a King room which, as well as the usual bathroom facilities had a really good walk in shower. The room (and I suspect all the rooms) have the quietest air conditioning system I have ever encountered. The weather was fairly hot and I was able to control the in-room temperature easily. The bed was probably the most comfortable that I have slept in anywhere - and the blanket put (at my prior request) in the duvet cover actually stayed in place on the bed throughout both nights. The greatest thing about the OGH is the staff - all were friendly and efficient, responding to requests promptly and without fuss. As the hotel would put it, the OGH is my new "home from home" in Guernsey. It is quite expensive to stay here, but every penny you spend is well worth it. Breakfasts are first rate - served "properly" with just juices, cereals etc on a buffet table. Table service is gladly provided even for those items for those (like me!) who ask! I shall review the Brasserie separately, where I ate several memorable meals. I am returning very soon! Thank you to all the staff, who took a genuine delight in looking after me.

Billed as the 'best' on the island - and it is probably the 'poshest' by a long way - and reflected in the price.
The welcome (with fizz) was very good and they whisked our car and bags off while telling us about facilities - very nicely done!
The room was very comfortable, though the view at the back of the property was not what we had hoped for (it is set on a hill in the centre of town).
The bar area outside the restaurant was VERY noisy with group after group of load 'local' guests partying. Management really should have intervened but I guess they don't want to upset regular dinner guests.

Very comfortable bedroom, and well-appointed public rooms with excellent facilities - gym and outdoor heated pool - and very pleasant staff. It is most conveniently positioned in the town with easy walking to most sites.

We stayed for a fortnight and although it's expensive you really do get what you pay for. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel or its very competent team. Eating in the hotel was a real pleasure and apart from busy times the service was excellent.
Is there a downside- well it's an old building and sound insulation isn't great and there was one evening when a function could be heard in some of the bedrooms. That said we were advised in advance and the event was well managed and did not go on too late.
All in all - it's a real hotel and a pleasure to stay at.

A lovely old fashioned 5 star hotel, bit of a problem parking outside to unload as it is a narrow street. However they do park the car for you. Nice welcome. Room very small and dark.Food and staff very good. Nice restaurants.
I did use the spa, felt very embarrassed walking through the hotel with gown on as there was a wedding on.

A hotel delivers only on staff performance. It is the only thing that makes one stand out from place x up the road from where i the traveller wants to be and the OGH staff are perfect.
Each and every staff member made an effort not appear so. They clearly work extremely hard and are so nice to talk to.
I am very lucky to have visited hotels in 3 continents in 20 years of travelling and for staff i rate this the best experience i have had.
The food was delicious and served hot to all guests.
They took care of my every need before i even thought of it half the time.
For any function, wedding or just a stay on the island i heartly recommend.

This hotel is very unassuming from the outside but this all changes once inside. There are lots of the original features remaining and the decor is very tasteful.

Excellent staff at reception who helped us with arranging cycle hire and taxis. Andi gave us a guided tour of the hotel. She was very knowledgeable considering that Guernsey is not her home. She's also very passionate and proud of the Red Carnation group.

Our suite was well appointed with a gorgeous bay window overlooking the harbour. Very comfortable bed with crisp bed linen. The bathroom was large with lots of towels! The room was perfect but perhaps the addition of a mini fridge might be considered by management.

There is an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers. Had we known that the pool was heated to a comfortable 28c we would have packed our bathers! Oh well, we'll remember them next time.

Breakfast was served in a spacious airy room with the option of also eating al fresco. Good selection on the buffet with lots of fresh fruit too. There is also an extensive menu with the usual
hot breakfast selection but with the addition of healthier options i.e. avocado and poached egg on toast, butternut squash "pancakes", to name a couple. The staff were very efficient and we didn't have to wait too long for hot drinks and food.

The hotel boasts a gin bar which met with our approval.

Many thanks to the OGH who made our weekend break one to remember.

We have just returned from four days at the Old Government House Hotel and wanted to say what a lovely experience it was. Not usually staying anywhere so 'grand' we were a little apprehensive as to how we would find everything but need not have worried as everyone was so welcoming without making you feel uncomfortable and we were thoroughly spoilt with extras in our room as we had a special anniversary to celebrate. Everything was tip top from the accommodation to the food and the ambience and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to all friends and family. Thank you again. I recently returned for two nights to what remains my very favourite hotel. After almost a year away and in spite of the fact that my visit was for work it was in every respect as enjoyable as before. Inevitably there were some staff changes and two nights was not long enough to get to know the new members but it was a great pleasure to see some familiar faces. In some ways it was almost as if I had never been away.
I hope that there will be more reasons for more visits.
OGH remains a magical hotel for me.

First visit to the OGH, the experience reflects its 5-star rating, all staff were a credit to the hotel. The walk up & down the hill into the town centre could be a problem for some people but can be an easy amble. We will definitely visit again. Thank you

This was our 12th consecutive year staying at the OGH, the hotel is well placed to explore both St Peter Port its self & the rest of island. The staff are only to eager to arrange transport to explore & recommend places to visit. Our balcony room over looked Herm & Sark, with Castle Cornet in the foreground. All ready planning next years trip.

Whilst we have toyed with staying in other hotels, every time the confidence we can have in the excellence and comfort of The OGH brings us back to booking into this place we know, like and can rely upon.
Our previous stay seemed a little under par but then that was still a cut above the average and for this stay it was back to its heights.
The bed superbly comfortable, every 'extra' we had pre booked was in our generously sized room with its en suite bathroom (yes a bath) Plenty of towels, bath robes and L'Ocitaine toiletries.
The room was made up while we had breakfast and prepared for us in the evening.
The lovely outside garden seems to be tended daily as is the pool.
There is a comfortably large lounge but which is arranged for the conviviality of small groups and has a supply of newspapers and games.
Key to an hotel of this standing is the courtesy, friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Top of the range.
We will be back!

The combination of room, location and service made this one of the very best hotel stays that we have ever enjoyed. We had a Seaview King with balcony, which was superb: spacious with a balcony and a great view over the town and harbour. We had fantastic weather but an impressive touch was that the balcony was covered and had electric windows - so that it was pretty much an open balcony for the summer but protected in the cooler seasons.
The service is really second to none. It felt like a bygone era. It came through from start to finish and at every level.especially in the little touches, like refreshing the (free) water and tea facilities in the room every time we used them. We inadvertently left some souvenir glasses from the Herm beer festival that we had stumbled upon during our daytrip there behind in our room when we left. The hotel sent them on to our home, refusing our offer to pay postage. Where else do you see service like that these days?
The food was brilliant. The included breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice and a lovely airy restaurant to start the day. The fish in the brasserie was perfectly cooked. The lobster rolls in the Crown Club were also a great treat and well recommended.
Finally, the staff. Truly excellent. Very friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in being the best: nothing was too much trouble.
We will certainly return before too long!

The Old Government House Hotel. 5 stars all round. Pleasant obliging staff all round. Very comfortable spacious room and bathroom. Shower cubicle a bit small. Some large people spotted at breakfast would have trouble in shower. Rooms and hotel tastefully decorated. Restaurant for dining 5 stars. Restaurant for breakfast 5+ stars. Wonderful variety of fresh fruits on buffet. Tried out the spa, sauna, steam room and chill room twice. 5 stars.
Nothing to fault here.
However one glitch we experienced. We were stuck in lift between floors for about 15 minutes. I forced open lift doors for fresh air. Staff quick to our assistance and apologetic.Later that night bottle of bubbly delivered to our room for inconvenience caused. Hey these things happen.
Highly recommended.

My wife and myself have just completed a weeks holiday at the Old Government House Hotel & Spa. This is a nice hotel and the staff are brilliant. The brassiere restaurant though is overpriced although the food is good. Would recommend.

A wedding anniversary trip for a few days to get away from it all. We were staying in the Herm Suite which was just lovely - a great view of the port and islands. Staff at the hotel were perfect and so friendly. Food and bar was great. We were probably the youngest in the hotel in our forties (!) but that didn't matter at all. Hotel is in a great situation close to everything. Too many gins to choose from made for a hazy lazy stay. Recommended - we will be back!

We stayed here for just 2 nights to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had afternoon tea on the day of our arrival and it was the best either of us had ever had. The heated outdoor pool was such a pleasure to get into after a day of walking. All the staff were friendly and helpful but not in an oppressive manner. Our room was fairly small but we spent very little time in there anyway. Why stay anywhere else in St Peter Port, it is just 5 minutes from the seafront.

Outstanding hotel, lovely staff, gorgeous building, position & amenities. Heated outdoor pool, gin & whisky cocktail bar, afternoon tea salon, curry restaurant, brasserie, all highlights. Worth all 5 stars! 5 minutes to all the shops in the pedestrianised shopping area, another 5 minutes to the lovely harbour. Walk back up a slight hill, nothing too strenuous. Try The Catch restaurant on the harbour front, recently opened, booking essential, limited choice but all lovely, great Motown & Soul music in the background. Also The Slaughterhouse bar on the harbour - great little rooftop terrace, courtyard bar and huge space inside for lunch / drinks. The Occupation Museum is a £1 bus journey away on the number 91 bus, and after you've been, you can travel all the way round the island on the same 91 bus for £1 - takes around 90 minutes & allows you to pinpoint which of the lovely west coast bays you want to return to. We chose Vazon Bay, walking past Cobo, Saline & Soif bays before getting the bus back to St Peter Port - a good bracing day out by the sea with white sandy beaches, rock pools and surf cafes. The flowers all over Guernsey, and especially in St Peter Port were amazing and everyone was very welcoming and helpful to tourists.

Superb breakfasts and dining menus and lovely lounges and gardens for early evening drinks. The outdoor pool was heated to about 28 degrees so taking a dip was always a pleasure and the loungers, sun shades and other facilities were first class.
We will certainly be back!

The OGH is a fantastic hotel located within a few minutes walk of the town, sea front and port. It is a lovely old building with all the facilities you could ever need. The breakfast is excellent with everything imaginable available, particularly a very wide variety of fruit and cooked options. What really makes this hotel special are the staff. From the minute we arrived they were all very attentive and helpful.
