The Old Government House Hotel is a fantastic place to stay with outstanding service and a warm and comfortable atmosphere; we had a wonderful time. Right in the heart of St Peter Port, this is an ideal location to explore all Guernsey has to offer; the staff can't have been more helpful or attentive. The evening meal at The Brasserie was excellent and the selection for breakfast was delicious; we will certainly be going back! The staff were outstanding offering helpful advice as to the best places to visit; we were made to feel welcome at every opportunity.

Lovely hotel, staff are very attentive nothing is too much trouble bit of a climb from the town, but it is quite close to all the shops. Rooms are made up twice a day if needed, luxury plenty of tea coffee and milk in the room, and a big comfortable bed.

The interior of the whole place is breathtaking-it's the high class treatment.
The waiters are dressed super sharp and our waiter helped us what to choose on the menu, always adding some funny comments-it really made our day.
The service akd decoration od the food on the plate where exquisite-as was the taste of every dish!
I highly recommend the steak and the foie gras!

Overall we enjoyed our 4 night stay in OGH the room was a little small but the suitcases did fit in the wardrobe so were out of the way. The check in was quick and we were shown to our room but not given much other information even about where to go for breakfast. The staff were all very polite and sorted a problem with our room very quickly.
Breakfast was very good but we did not eat any other meals there as we prefer to eat as we go. Would stay there again when we return to Guernsey.

First of all, the rooms are small but for 1 or 2 nights they are good.
Staff are brilliant, very attentive and helpful.

Bed was good to sleep in and I would go back to this hotel.

Location is excellent as you can walk into town in less than 2 minutes.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at this hotel, however there is little that is needed !!
Accommodation and dining both excellent.
Spa available (but not used by me).
Go for the rooms with a view over the harbour towards Herm (worth a trip in itself).
Central for all local services.
Wouldn't hesitate to go again.

A stay here is a very nice experience. On arrival, the reception desk were friendly and informative offering iced lemon water which was much appreciated after our long ferry trip. Our car was taken and parked for us due to the restricted parking facilities. However, we did not use our car for the duration as the bus service in Guernsey is very good and cheap. Our room was compact but had everything for our comfort although we could have done with another chair. The bathroom was very nice with good quality toiletries and super fluffy white towels. Also had automatic blue lighting for that visit to the bathroom at night! The room was serviced twice daily and everything was very clean. Breakfast was very nice with a good selection of fruits, juices and yoghurts. There is a charge for a "healthy" breakfast but there is a nice selection of other cooked food included in the price. I tried the crushed avocado one morning and quinoa another as this is not something you have everyday for breakfast. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We ate one evening in their restaurant. The food was nicely cooked and presented. The cost for the two of us was £97 for a starter , main, a glass of wine each, coffee and I had a liqueur so not cheap. However, as we had a £50 meal allowance, this brought it down to an acceptable level and it was nice to dress up for an evening. There are nice gardens and an outdoor swimming pool. There is no indoor pool which is a shame. Access on foot to OGH is uphill so might present some difficulty for someone with walking problems but otherwise in a good position. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who go out of their way to help and we would stay here again.

I spent my birthday here for a relaxing weekend away. The hotel is in the ideal location near to the town in a very scenic spot. Our room was perfect with stunning views out to sea, everything is very luxurious with traditional charm. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful - it really makes a difference, thank you to Andrew and his team. We ate in the curry restaurant one evening, which I can highly recommend. All the food is of a very high quality. The hotel has a wonderful ambience and is very popular for events and afternoon teas. Please do not hesitate to book this hotel for your next trip to Guernsey, you will love it! We can't wait to go back.

My wife and I recently spent three nights at the OGH for our wedding anniversary,
We had been to the island before but not the OGH on arrival we were pleasantly surprised the hotel is stunning and the people were incredibly helpful and friendly something that was to continue throughout our stay.
We were given a quick tour of the facility’s, unlike some hotels where it takes most of your stay to find your way around
Our room (104) was very comfortable, warm with a lovely view of the harbour and the hotel gardens
The food was fantastic and whatever we asked for was never too much trouble
Bar prices were very competitive with local bars
This is a hotel we will be visiting again as soon as possible.
A big thank you to all the staff for making our break special

Location, food, ambience, cleanliness, comfort, friendly and helpful staff all combine to make this a truly 5 star experience. Not overbearing or intrusive but polite and attentive service from everyone - reception, concierge, bar and waiting staff, housekeeping, spa and managers all excellent. We had a memorable 3 nights here and will most definitely return and try other red carnation hotels if this one is anything to go by. Some great deals with lovely bedrooms - we were on the second floor with a lovely view out over St peter Port harbour. Great little walk into town down Smith Street, ate in brasserie as food so good, also de nellos in town. Plentiful supplies of everything in room and nightly turn down service too. All the little things added up to make this so enjoyable - probably down to the training and the excellent underpinning philosophy of the owner of the group. Thank you so much.

We originally booked a four night stay at the OGH, whilst attending a conference. Unfortunately, due to extremely foggy weather mking flights to Guernsey impossible, we arrived one day late. We spent three excellent days, but four would have been even better.
All the staff were emtremely pleasant, and couldn;t do enough to help. The room, a King with sea view, was beautifully presented, and well supplied with tea and coffee making facilities.
Breakfast offered a good choice, to suit most requirements, in the charming Brasserie, where we also enjoyed one evening dinner.
We look forward to returnin.

We recently visited the OGH for an indulgent short break. We have nothing but praise both for the hotel and the staff. The ambience, subdued luxury, and location gets a 10/10 from us. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were welcoming, and helpful without being overbearing. We have stayed at several of the Red Carnation group hotels and can say without fear of contradiction that their attention to detail and customer service is second to none. We shall definitely be going back.

We decided to choose the OGH Hotel's Curry room for our very special occasion. We had aperitifs in Harrys Bar followed by a most wonderful dining experience.
The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was indeed worthy of their accolades and the evening was a memorable success.
Thank you all at the OGH.

A superb Sunday lunch with my family with great views across to Herm and Sark. They have a new executive chef and he is clearly pushing the boat out.

They food was just perfect , we had several dishes between us. Sea Bass, Roast Beef and Duck all was beautifully presented and cooked perfectly. I had Roast Beef which I can honestly say was one of the best Sunday Lunches I have had in a restaurant.

Service was attentive and the tables are a good size (nothing worse than being squeezed on a table).

The cheese selection was fantastic and the starter or Artichoke soup was just excellent.

If you have not been here for I while ,I really strongly recommend you go.

Well done OGH,5 stars :) BTW.free wif-fi is a good speed!

I used to live in Guernsey and my second child was born there. We moved when she was one year old and we haven't been back. So I decided to take her to her birth place on a mum and daughter trip. The OGH is a fantastic hotel and the staff could not do any more in terms of service and making my daughter feel very special. I knew of the hotel from living there but it really is worthy of the 5 stars.
The food at both breakfast and dinner was exceptional. They cater for every taste and the menu's themselves are exciting. I don't say that very often!
The spa is immaculate and the staff all charming. I highly recommend the cream tea in the afternoon after the spa session. Bliss.

The OGH is a fantastic hotel right out of the top drawer. The staff are always polite and friendly. So much so that on a visit to the hotel today (Shrove Tuesday) to set up for a trade show. Ken and the ever youthful Harry dished up some freshly made pancakes for myself and my colleague before we left. In my experience it doesn't matter if you are a guest or someone in to do some work the welcome is always warm and friendly. I always leave feeling appreciated. Thank you Harry, Ken and all the staff at The OGH. (Unfortunately my tripadvisor android. App will not allow me to add a photo.)

I decided to stay here after getting a really nice friendly feel for the place thanks to the reservation staff. It was a big birthday and I wanted somewhere v nice for 2 adults and 2 children. We stayed in the gorgeous Herm suite with beautiful views and a balcony. Children were in an adjoining room.
So. Staff were amazingly helpful . Provided a DVD player with films for the children. Breakfast was wonderful. Lots of choice and really kind to the children. We were given helpful suggestions of things to do and where to eat and made bookings for us. The gym was great And we were given a personalised training plan - we being me and my son who was training for a race.
The hotel was immaculately clean.
All the staff were kind, helpful and made us feel relaxed and at ease. A very very special place to stay.

My partner booked us in as a surprise so I had no idea what to expect when we arrived but I was wowed from the start with how stunning OGH is - our room was well kitted out, beautifully decorated and incredibly comfortable. The attention to detail was brilliant - even simple things like an umbrella in the room.

The location was perfect - no more than a 10 minute walk from the heart of St Peter Port, as well as all bus routes.

From the moment we arrived to the time we left, the staff at OGH were wonderful. Every single one left us with the impression they cared about our experience which really made us feel special. Sadly, due to poor weather our flight was cancelled so we arrived a day late so we couldn't take advantage of the offer we had for 3 nights for 2. The staff were more than happy to slide our stay back a day to accommodate us which we really appreciate but unfortunately we weren't able to take this us due to our return flight. That said, it was another example of their customer service.

Afternoon tea was delicious. I would highly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. The selection was varied, high quality and good value when you consider how much you get.

The whole experience left us feeling thoroughly treated and we would love to return in better weather when we can take advantage of the pool facilities.

We had an excellent break in Guernsey and the OGH was brilliant. The staff are incredibly helpful and attentive. The breakfasts are awesome and plentiful. The room was small and the en-suite/shower was also small. The room was very warm and we could bit turn of the blue light in the en-suite. However we did get a free upgrade and £50 towards a meal during out stay. So overall very impressed and would recommend.

We got off to a faltering start as we had to ask to change rooms as our original sea view room had defective double glazing which meant you couldn't actually see the view. To be fair to the staff they dealt with this in the best possible way and upgraded us to a sea view room with balcony.

We were left wondering whether we would have been happy paying the extra price for this particular room in the first place as the view is somewhat obscured by the roof of the floor below and the glazing needed cleaning. Also the balcony didn't appear to get a lot of sun, but with it being February this wasn't a massive issue.

On to the positives, the staff were very friendly and both breakfast and the one evening meal we ate in for were excellent. The grounds weren't quite as big as they appear to be in the photographs and there was limited area to sit to take in the February sunshine, but they were maintained in good order.

The hotel has a definite old colonial feel to it, but this led to the classy feeling atmosphere and we have no reason not to recommend giving it a try.
