We recently visited the old government house hotel for a birthday getaway. The staff were incredibly helpfull and were always on hand to provide exceptional service. They helped me pick out the perfect room for the nature of our trip and I couldn't fault it. I appreciate some rooms may not have such a good view as others but from the room that was recommended to me, from the balcony we could see the whole of St Peter port and neighbouring islands Herm and Sark.
The food at the hotel was superb. We had two breakfasts, lunch and a dinner at the brasserie during our stay. All excellent. The weather was beautiful so we enjoyed our lunch out in the immaculate garden.
The pool is lovely and warm and in a real sun trap. On a hot day you wouldn't want to hang around when it comes to bagging yourself a sunbed as they are quite limited.
My fiance used the spa and enjoyed back shoulder neck and head massages. I was impressed with the gym as it had everything you would expect from a good quality gym including a decent free weights area.
I can't speak highly enough about this hotel and I'd like to visit more in the Red Carnation Hotel Collection in the future.

Just perfect, great location fantastic attention to detail in every respect and thoroughly enjoyed being pampered. Probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at.
Tiny examples of attention to detail - TV remote controlled was "sanitised" and a blue light in the bathroom so could find it in the dark.

At the top end of Guernsey hotels this has had some money spent over the years and I have been coming for nearly 20. Occasionally it feels a little bit tired but the main thing above all else is the staff. They are the most helpful, most pleasant group you would find in any hotel. Some have been there decades!!
Word of warning some rooms have terrible views and some the sound proofing can be a bit suspect. Try to go for a better option or see what other rooms are free

We have stayed at the OGH several times in the past but until last weekend hadn't been there for 15 years. We were delighted to find it was as good as it ever was. The OGH is an old style hotel with a modern touch. The setting is idyllic, the staff plentiful and standards are excellent. We would recommend it to anyone who wasn't looking for a 'formula' hotel.

Have just returned from our holiday in Guernsey at the OGH. From the moment of arrival, this was like finding 'a little bit of Heaven'.
We were welcomed into beautiful surroundings with a glass of 'bubbly', our luggage immediately taken to our room. We were then given a short tour of the hotel and escorted to our room by a charming, courteous and helpful member of the 'front of house' staff.
The ambience of the Hotel is truly delightful; relaxing, gracious and comfortable. The staff without exception, were of the very best, helpful, considerate and kind. Kieron in particular was most helpful with our travel arrangements.
Every meal was a delight and we particularly loved the garden and the heated swimming pool.
Well done OGH, we loved every minute of our holiday and Guernsey is of course, delightful.

Just returned from another visit. Everything was just as fab as before. Thank you to all the lovely staff, so friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back again. The hotel is beautiful. The food is amazing. If you go to Guernsey you must stay here. I can't praise it enough.

We spent a long weekend at OGH 9-12 June. We had a Double Room overlooking the front and main street. From the moment we arrived to our last moments we were expertly looked after. They are not just offering customer service they have a mission to create perfect moments and really want to make your stay the best it can possibly be. The restaurant and bar staff remember your name and quickly build rapport, offering suggestions and support even before you know you need it - toast crumb tickled my throat and a glass of juice swiftly passed to me to ease my coughing fit.

Room was large for a basic double, bed was comfortable all amenities covered including robes and slippers. I also was delighted to find L'occitane products in the bathroom. Wide selection on the tea tray. Fresh milk is available on request. Bathroom had shower over the bath and could do with an upgrade. All towels and bedlinen high quality. Even tho we overlooked the main street double Windows cut out all noise.

Restaurant provides a varied breakfast freshly cooked hot food to order. Evening meal was delightful and generous portions - honeycomb ice cream is superb. Piano man provides the right ambiance wonderful rendition of James Taylor songs. If you dont want a large meal the Crown Club provides a range of smaller plates and sandwiches - my husband said it was the best burger he has ever had.

Gardens and poolside a complete delight, well managed and tidy. The most comfortable sun beds and free sun cream available in different factors. Water freely available throughout.

Overall a relaxing break which became a real luxury treat, although you are paying a little bit more the care and service and overall quality of products and food is worth it.

We enjoyed very minute of our stay. From the moment we walked in, Andiswa (Andi) the front of house manager made us feel so welcome. That feeling carried on for the whole of our visit - the staff were terrific and everything ran calmly and smoothly. We will definitely be coming back.

There is no better place to stay than here. Everything you could ask for from the best beds in the world to super service. How many hotels have you visited recently where they actually take your order for breakfast?
It will cost you a few quid more than other hotels in the area but you won't be disappointed.

A group of four friends spent the last bank holiday Monday being pampered. We started off at the Spa where we all had two thirty minute treatments and use of the spa. The therapist was very helpful, friendly and thorough. She even delivered me my swimming costume which had been dropped off with reception to me in the spa relaxation room. We then moved upstairs for afternoon tea which was delicious. We wanted to swap a few things on the menu and they couldn't have been more accommodating. A lovely relaxing afternoon.

We stayed 3 nights in May with friends. A nice welcome with excellent reception when entering the hotel. We had a balcony room with view over the harbour. The hotel and the rooms are old, but in high standard concerning bathroom and aircondition. A good selection of tea and coffee in the room. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The fresh berries in the breakfast buffet are fantastic together with the yogourt.

Stayed here in early May 2017 for a long weekend. We had a room with a balcony and view of the Port. Not cheap, but a real treat. Food was great and we were very well looked after by Jozef in the restaurants, and by Zalan, the young concierge who took care of our bikes. The hotel had warned us that there would be noise on Saturday night due to an event. However, they kindly agreed to offer us a late check out and breakfast in our room to compensate. As it turned out, the noise was not bad at all and we slept very well every night. The heated outdoor pool is a great asset - so much nicer than swimming indoors. We look forward to returning.

Beautiful hotel, the food was excellent though we only had breakfast and lunch there. The cocktail list and the gin list are well worth a visit!

The staff were friendly, particularly in the restaurant and the bar. The rooms were small but had everything you needed. Nice toiletries!!

Very comfy bed. It felt as if the room had been serviced too quickly on our first morning, probably because we were changing to go to a wedding when they arrived at midday to do it so they had to come back later (reception staff at the hotel did know the time of the wedding, so maybe this was not communicated to the other staff).

The only down-side were the starchy receptionists, on arrival the girl was really good and friendly but the staff when we left could not cope with the amount of guests needing attention (only 3 families), they were abrupt, forgot to take off our food credit and got in the most dreadful muddle booking a taxi for us to our friends house. They need to remember the customer is usually right and if we say we know how to get somewhere we are telling the truth....and they do not have to insist on a postcode and full directions before they book the cab and a smile or two would not go amiss.

Saying that I would definitely stay again. We had a beautiful view from our room and felt very relaxed there.

We stayed in this beautiful hotel for 6 nights in the Sark suite two weeks ago. The staff were all friendly and efficient, the room beautifully appointed and the food excellent. There were a number of bars and sitting spaces to have lunch or pre dinner drinks-really enjoyed our stay.

A group of eight of us stayed for four days and were all delighted with the choice. From the start a very warm and friendly welcome from Andy and the reception team.Breakfast every morning in the Brasserie was a delight with an extensive menu to enjoy. Actually managed to relax and swim in the pool on one of the days but were also able to sit out in the outside areas which were very pleasant. Various trips organised with the help of Zalan, the excellent and knowledgeable concierge.

Visited the spa and wife and I both had treatments which were excellent. One of the highlights was a great meal in the spectacular old Governor's room with a mixture of curries and seafood.

All the staff were always friendly and helpful and the service throughout was very good. . The hotel is very well situated to explore St Peter Port and further afield.

If there were any criticisms, the rooms ( even with an upgrade ) were not the largest and the air condition seemed to struggle to keep the temperature down but maybe a small price to pay for such an historic building .

We didn't stay at the hotel, but did have coffee and used the Spa Facilities.
I booked before we arrived and this is a busy Spa, so book ahead!
The facilities are very nice and clean. Customer service is second to none Joao (sorry if spelt wrong) who was on reception was absolutely perfect for front of house and an asset to the team (hope you have a nice holiday)
Sara (I think is in charge) was very helpful. Thank you to abbey for my massage. Not sure which poor soul got my partner, but thank you he loved all his treatments!!
When we come back to Guernsey, we will return.

We have just returned from this wonderful hotel. I have stayed in many hotels, but the service offered at the OGH is second to none. All the staff could not do enough for us, but the manager, Harry, was particularly impressive. The public rooms are beautiful and quirky, and the dining room a fabulous breakfast venue. The food was wonderful and very varied. we even had a fab curry one night in the spectacular old Governor's room. The hotel is very well placed to explore the beautiful and fascinating island of Guernsey, too.

We arrived by cruise ship and after taking part in a gin experience and trip around the island, we headed to OGH for another gin tasting!
We had not booked ( which I would do in advance next time, just so they knew we were coming) but were warmly greeted by several members of the hotel staff. There are a good selection of venues to eat and drink in wonderful settings. We opted for the Crown Club because of the gin tasting!
Ashling, who is charge approached us and after speaking to the chef due to the food element, started explaining about the 3 different options. Each option has 3 gins to try! Our kind of experience.
So the food was ordered, a magnificent lamb curry called Bunny Chow, served in a large tasty bun. Then the drinks arrived.
Each gin was tasted neat, then with a flavour, then ice and finally tonic. Every time we added something, the taste of the gin changed! Wonderful.
In the first we added crushed apple, to the second ruby grapefruit and my favourite the third - coriander. This with the curry was a taste sensation.
I hope this is correct because having tasted gins in the morning and now more in the afternoon my memory may have become a little cloudy!
The price was good as well, with a generous tip ( as we were all very happy ) £80 for 3 people. In our opinion a wonderful early afternoon experience in exceptional surroundings. Some people ate outside on a beautiful terrace but we opted for inside looking out onto the swimming pool. Beautiful crisp white napkins, what more can I say.
I suppose the fact that the sea conditions had changed since the morning meant that the tender operation had to be suspended was a sobering experience for us, as we had to stand on the quay side for a few hours!
Next time we are in St Peter Port we will try nos 1 or nos 3
Thank you

A comfortable, relaxing stay at the OGH (as it brands itself), in a luxurious 'King' room, recently refurbished to a high standard. The service offered was of a high standard especially in the restaurant, where we commend the professionalism of Maitre D' Ken, and in the excellent Spa-Gym facility, overseen by genially efficient manager, Danny.

We dined in the Brasserie restaurant twice during our stay and in the Governor's Room on a third evening. Overall, the food served was prepared and presented at a very high standard.

One thing that we noted that must be improved would be to include all the key ingredients served in a dish in it's menu description. The Lobster soup offered in the dinner menu contained (unrequired) bacon pieces. This ingredient was not mentioned in the soup's menu description, significantly altered the flavour of a seafood dish, and could cause a problem if served without warning to pescatarians, members of the various faiths which do not favour the eating of pork products and any other diners - such as this reviewer - who do not wish to eat bacon / chorizo / ham pieces unnecessarily added to seafood meals.

Booked a studio suite direct with hotel. Less than websites and included a £50 voucher on dining in hotel. Great location. Well trained and helpful staff. Food and wine excellent. Room nice but air-con not very effective and no hot water in shower. Otherwise, very good and we would return.

Lovely place to stay for a few nights. Rooms somewhat small but with all the facilities one would want. A very comfortable place who's greatest asset, by far, are the staff who were all perfectly charming.
Not particularly impressed with dinner in the main restaurant but breakfast was very good.

Had a lovely 2 night break here. Charming, hotel with lovely outdoor area and pretty bedrooms. The staff were superb, nothing was too much trouble. Pool was warm even in April. Fantastic range of food at breakfast.

Stayed here for 1 night on business. Is the only 5 star on the island apparently. The building is very old and grand all classic and stylishly decorated. Had a queen delux room, nicely appointed but fairly small I would say for the price.
Nice coffee and biscuits in the room and L'Occitane products in the bathroom.
2 bars and bistro and breakfast really nice. Best hotel on the island, but not 5 star compared to London etc.
